Movie Review: The Healing

At first, I thought it was a story mainly about the healers. In a way it is but as the story goes my perception about the movie changes. It was not mainly about the healers but tackles about the act itself from a different point of view. As we all know, we Filipinos, have been known for believing in faith healers and I believe there are different faith healers in ever regions of the country, especially to those low class municipality who couldn't afford much of going to the doctors.

I think the movie “The Healing” was a mixture of different concepts from different movies that director Chito Rono have created. I think one of them is the movie “Feng Shui” where images of people shows and comes in the house which indicates that they were dead already.

The idea of showing a distorted face with one big eye which indicates that the character was being possessed was quite interesting. The idea about the crow being doppler ganger and possessing the body was another thing to be recognize because as far as I know in some movies like The Crow the bird itself carries the soul of the dead which gives them the power to come back from the dead. Well it was something like.

The movie “The Healing” has two ratings, one for the PG13 and the other is R18. The R18 shows some obscene and gory part of the movie which is not okay for other people but I believed it would be appreciated much if the movie goer would watch the uncut version.

Another thing that I have noticed about the movie was color oriented. Every scene shows a unified colors. The prominent color that I have noticed was first all white, then blue, and then yellow. Not really sure if it has a meaning but you can really noticed it.

Acting wise, well if it is from the Star for All Season it must be good and take note this was Governor V's first time to star in a suspense-horror movie. All the characters did bring the best. I like the character of Pokwang though she was delivering a serious line it was still funny. The comedian in her still came out. Kim Chiu as well was great in portraying her role.

My rating for this movie was two thumbs up for a suspense-horror film.

“The Healing” was starred by Governor Vilma Santos and together with Kim Chiu, Martin Del Rosario, Mark Gil, Allan Paule, Cris Villanueva, Daria Ramirez, Ces Quesada, ynez Veneracion, Simon Ibarra, Abi bautista, Joel Torre, Chinggoy Alonso, Mon Confiado, and Carmi Martin, Pokwan, and Ms. Janice De Belen. Directed by Chito Rono.
