Savor The Flavorful Mami and Siopao at Masuki

Food has always been one of my comfort, it gives me the completion of my thoughts whenever I'm shattered and out of focus.  It is a vice that I think has brought me to different taste of cuisines and delicacies.  A delightful journey of my tongue and an exquisite adventure of my lips.

Today, I have experienced a come back of history.  It has brought me the sense of where and when it all started.  A portion of the Filipino Culture that has been passed on through generations.

When we've heard of mami and siopao, it all boils down to one specific spot in Manila and that is Binondo.  The heart of the rich Chinoy culture.  Together with some of the richly known Chinese restaurants, MaSuki is one of those old restaurants in Binondo who have been in the business for more than half a century already.  The history of MaSuki way goes back 1930s when they have firjst established the restaurant in Binondo which was first called as MaKong Noodle House.  Later on it was change to MaSuki due to change of perhaps management and from then on it became the presently known as the MaSuki Mami Restaurant.

To start the experience, it was passed lunch already when I've arrived the restaurant with the words from the staff of SM Megamall that they (Masuki Restaurant) were already expecting for us (bloggers).  I was a bit hesitant when I've seen that some of the bloggers where already there and was having a conversation with the owner, Ms. Willen Ma but of course its normal to be shyness at first.  It was really an honor meeting the offspring of the founder of Masuki Restaurant.  She was really accommodating and knows their business very well which shows on their system of ordering, names of their menus and their interaction with their costumers.

Minutes later different dishes lined up on our table.  It started with a regular bowl of Beef Wanton Chicken Asado which is like a gathering of meats in just one viand, flavored with steamy stock (not really sure if it's chicken stock or beef stock, I forgot to ask about this one), rich strings of noodles, and a soup spoon of cut chives that enriched the smell and flavor of the Mami.   It was really enticing enough that I just need to capture that moment.

Then came the Siomai that is unique in its size.  This is the first time that I have seen a Siomai this big and if my estimation is correct the measurement is around 1.5x1.5x2 inches, imagine that.

Followed by three different semi-rounded white pork bun or commonly called Siopao, one regular size Bola-bola, one regular size Asado, and one special Asado which is much bigger than the two.  And of course a meal wouldn't be complete with the drinks which is the Honey Lemon Iced Tea.

There's another part of this food experience with MaSuki that I like most, their One Sauce For All. Yes they have concocted a sauce that really fits in to most of their dishes.  It is a sauce that is not too sweet nor salty but just right to compliment with the Mami, Siopao and Siomai.   It's their Magic Sauce!

It was like being in a time machine, traveled back in time because according to the owner of MaSuki, the flavor and the ingredients of their Mami and Siopao are still the same when they first started, the thickness of their noodles, the richly taste of their asado, and the color of their buns.  Their number one critics are their costumers so they try to maintain the exact flavor of their dishes and that's what their costumers have loved in the first place.

I don't know if my father who used to be roaming around that side of Manila have brought me to their place in Binavidez St., Binondo, Manila but looking at their place in SM Megamall does make it like you where there already.  A typical look of a Chinese restaurant in Binondo added with most of the signage and menus that they have.  So aside from the MASUKI Mami Restaurant in SM Megamall Lower Ground Floor Bldg 4, there are also the main branch in Binondo, the branch in Greenhilss, and soon to be at SM Mall of Asia.

Now if you're a foodie enthusiast and would love to try these food galore better head on to SM Megamall for the Mega Food Sale because MaSuki is part of the numerous food establishments that are on sale.  With MaSuki they're offering an Eat All You Can Regular Mami and Siopao for only Php250.00.  So if you're hungry and in to break a record you still got until tomorrow, August 19, 2012.  I believed as of the last Mega Food Sale one costumer was able to finish Four (4) Bowls of Mami and Four (4) Pieces of Siopao.   So do you want to break that record?
