GRAB A COPY OF MOONSTAR88’S LATEST ALBUM “THIS YEAR”

To all Moonstar88 fans, this should be on your list this Christmas to complete the year.

After the success of their studio albums and chart-topping hits like “Torete”, “Sulat”, and “Migraine”, Moonstar88, composed of vocalist/guitarist May Chelle Baay, guitarist Herbert Hernandez, bassist Paolo Bernaldo and drummer Bon Sundlang, rises to new heights with the release of their newest album “This Year”.



With the band members having successful careers outside their work as musicians, this album is a certain proof of hardwork and dedication. “I guess may magic din kasi yung pagiging Moonstar88 namin, [yun] yung pinaka-escape namin sa personal and work stuff, doon namin nabuhos lahat ng emotions sa pagsusulat ng kanta and pagtugtog,” Moonstar88 reveals. It took them two and a half years to finish the album, from pre-production, demo and playing the songs live on gigs.

The album contains 8 tracks, including a special track featuring Parokya Ni Edgar’s Chito Miranda and an acoustic version of “Migraine”. Each track tells a story, letting you experience the ups and downs of this cycle called love. “Tulad ng meaning ng title "This year", gusto namin na maging timeless sya. Kahit next year, this year album parin yan,” the band shares. The songs included in the album have that instantly nostalgic feel, making you remember the significant parts of your life without actually feeling cliché.

Bursting with melodic guitar riffs and sweet vocals, opener “Gilid” is not your typical “obsessed stalker” song. “Sa gilid ng mga mata, tinitingnan kita…” will make you groove to its upbeat tune while feeling warmth and affection at the same time. “Para sa mga harmless na stalker. Di lahat ng stalker gustong mangulo ng ibang tao. Mas marami gusto lang nila na nandyan sila sa gilid. Gusto lang nila yung pakiramdam,” the Moonstar88 reveals.

“Ligaw”, the band’s first single, is a tune that could not only instantly top the charts but is truly captivating as well. “Para sa mga gustong maligaw pagkasama nila yung gusto nilang tao. Yung tipong pagkasama niya yung ibang tao gusto nyang mawala. Pero di naman sila,” the band shares. With its catchy, sweet riffs and melody, “Kasama kita ngayon at walang hadlang. Hindi makapaniwala...” will get you singing along in no time while making you remember that first time you fell in love. May Chelle and Chito’s duet in this song is also a moving collaboration you wouldn’t want to miss, “First time kami gumawa ng duet. And sobrang special sya nang si Chito ang kumanta. First time namin sya nakajam. Pero siya nag-produce nung 2nd album namin including Sulat,” the band explains.

Moonstar88 is also pleased so announce that they did exciting collaborations to make this album possible, “Maraming involved sa production. Chito Miranda of Parokya ni edgar, Jomal and Allan of Kamikazee, Eric Perlas of Tower of Doom. Malaking factor sila,” adding “and new label namin [which is] Ivory, sobra kaming excited. Alam namin na isa sila sa mga label na nagtiwala sa OPM.”

Easy and light listening, “This Year” is a breath of fresh air for Moonstar88 and their Pinoy listeners. “This Year is very solid album. It has a little bit of everything that we've grown and evolved into, musically.”
