As me and my wife celebrated our wedding anniversary last December 15, The Roadhouse Manila Bay celebrated their 1st Anniversary as well and gladly we were invited to this blues jamming night. You may call it a date as well because both of us were very happy together hearing the good old blues music, though she’s not a real fan of blues music. As I can remember I’ve heard Pinoy Blues way back when one of the radio networks was still airing and playing good rocking Pinoy music. I really love the music. The rhythm is just like the sweeping ride of bikes along the mountain side and no wonder bikers are present there. They too love the music.

The Roadhouse Manila Bay was officially opened December 9, 2011 and it was a risk that Mr. Ciaran Carruthers took. According to him “the blues is everywhere in the Philippines, but you just can’t see it.” Indeed it is everywhere but there was this fear that the audience will not get a hold of that kind of music but for Mr. Carruthers it was a challenge bringing the blues into The Roadhouse Manila Bay and feature live music, seven nights a week. Roadhouse has become a major catalyst in the Manila music scene, it encouraged old blues-oriented bands to regroup and new bands to step forward.
Aside from the celebration of its 1st Anniversary it was also the launching of the very first album under the Roadhouse Rekords, the Pinoy Blues Jam. This album was produced by Gerry Diwa, owner of Sound Weavers Studio and a veteran musician and producer who were active in the Manila blues scene since the early 1990’s.
The night was great, the food was delicious, and the blues music was all stunning! Can’t wait to go back and listen more of the live blues jam.
Soon I'll be sharing about the blues music and what the "Pinoy Blues Jam" contains.
