Ginebra San Miguel Revealed Christelle Abello as 2021's Calendar Girl

6:01:00 PM

Are you one of the many avid followers and spectators of Ginebra San Miguel's yearly Calendar Girl Revelations? Well, if you are, that is great. Ginebra San Miguel, even though we're experiencing the pandemic, made sure that the tradition will still go on. And by doing the event online gave a different way of revealing this year's Calendar Girl. Actually, and I think no one really knew who was this year's Calendar Girl not until she was introduced to the public. I was surprised that when her audio airs without exposing her face and by the way she's answering is somehow similar to how our two beauty queens, Pia Wurtzback and Catriona Gray respond to a question.

So, who is the next calendar girl after Sanya Lopez? Well, she's a beauty queen, and I'm sure you won't get a chance to be part of the prestigious competition if you're not a beauty queen. So, to know her already, she is Christelle Abello, a fresh face, and a newcomer. She's a 26-year old model based in California, USA.

Just a few days ago through an online/virtual launching event, Ginebra San Miguel introduced Christelle Abello as the new image in the 2021 Calendar Girl of Ginabra San Miguel.

The 2021 edition of the Ginebra San Miguel calendar is very timely as it captures today’s “new normal” at home in six (6) different layouts. With the theme “Ganado sa Bahay,” the calendars feature Christelle being “ganado,” motivated and productive even amid the COVID-19 pandemic – working from home, honing her creativity and discovering new skills, and taking care of her body and well-being.

“More than just a pretty face, our Ginebra San Miguel Calendar Girl for 2021 definitely personifies our latest campaign ‘One Ginebra Nation.’ We were not only charmed by her intelligence, but also by her optimism, her courage, her never-say-die spirit, her heart for others, and love for her kababayan. We feel that she best represents the brand and we are very happy to welcome Christelle to our Ginebra San Miguel family,” relates Ginebra San Miguel Inc. (GSMI) Sales and Marketing manager Allan Mercado.

As in the past, the Ginebra San Miguel calendar is considered as a stepping stone for up-and-coming artists and personalities.

For Christelle, being chosen as the next Ginebra San Miguel calendar girl is an opportunity of a lifetime. “I’m so thrilled. I’m so proud and honored to represent Ginebra San Miguel. This is an opportunity of a lifetime and I’m so grateful to be a part of such an iconic and historical brand,” she says.

To prepare for her Ginebra San Miguel calendar girl shoot, Christelle made sure that she is both physically and mentally ready. “I already do a lot of weights and cardio workouts. I’ve become accustomed to that lifestyle not because I want to look good physically but also because I want to feel good mentally. And I think that’s really important especially at this time,” relates Christelle, who at the start of the pandemic put up a fundraising effort called “Kapit-bisig Tayo” to assist healthcare workers.

REVISITING HER ROOTS

Christelle is born to Filipino parents. Her father is from Kalibo, Aklan while her mother is from Silang, Cavite. She graduated with a degree in Communication from California State University San Marcos.

While she spent most of her life in the US, Christelle has always been in touch with her Filipino roots. “My mom heavily enforced Filipino culture and values at home. She wanted my sister and I to learn Tagalog, and what better way to learn it than through watching teleseryes and movies. So, I grew up watching KathNiel’s ‘Got to Believe,’ and ‘A Very Special Love’,” shares Christelle, who dreams of starring in her own teleserye or movie.

Christelle admits that the never-say-die story of Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach also inspired her to pursue her other dream – to become a beauty queen. “The world of pageantry fascinated me so much because I witnessed phenomenal women and beautiful and confident women like Pia Wurtzbach who made a mark in this world. And they impelled me to say that I can do this too.”

“Back in the day, my dad would tell me stories about [Robert] Jaworski and that even if the team was falling behind in a PBA game, people would still cheer them on and were confident that they will come back strong and win the game because of their never-say-die attitude. I think Barangay Ginebra resonates with Filipinos so well with who we are as people, resilient despite the adversities that come our way,” shares Christelle.

FAVORITE SCENE

Yes, our lovely calendar girl does have her favorite scene, and I was glad that my question during the virtual launch was related to her favorite. Christelle's favorite was the painting session scene or the Ganado sa Pagpipinta and I asked if she has painted before and what are the types of paintings that she does. According to her, "... I admit I'm not the best painter nor I paint as often but I do like to draw. I do like to sketch out every now and then. And honestly, I like to draw some anime from time to time. I'm a big fan of Avatar series..."

So, there you go and she's Ganado sa Pagpipinta of anime characters.

THE GINEBRA CALENDAR TRADITION

The Ginebra San Miguel Calendar Girl is a significant part of the brand’s 187-year history. Ginebra San Miguel's First Ginuman Live Online Concert as Salute To Frontliners and the Filipino Spirit

12:41:00 AM
Salute to all the Frontliners

An annual event where thousands of people come together to celebrate Ginebra San Miguel's Ginumanfest, a yearly music festival held in different regions nationwide. This includes me also, who have been to some of these celebrations, of course, I did enjoy and have fun. Good music, great food, and an interesting flavor of drinks that have been with us for almost two centuries.

Since 2011, Ginumanfest has been championing the best in OPM talent year on year, bringing Filipinos together for an epic celebration of music, food, and the world’s largest selling gin.

For this year 2020, as an act of unity in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ginebra San Miguel held its first-ever live online concert. The heritage brand urged us to digitally get together via Ginebra San Miguel’s Facebook Page (https://www.facebook.com/BarangayGinebra/) last June 20 at 8:00 pm, as ONE GINEBRA NATION to support and salute our frontliners, our freedom to enjoy life, and the never-say-die Filipino spirit.

Honoring Heroes

Now more than ever, the message of unity and togetherness of Ginebra San Miguel’s “One Ginebra Nation” campaign could not be more timely.

Early on in the crisis, Ginebra San Miguel found a way to do its part to help as well as to honor the modern heroes in the frontlines.

Aside from donating millions of liters of ethyl alcohol to hospitals and the frontlines, Ginebra San Miguel came out with a reimagination of its iconic label by National Artist Fernando Amorsolo. The image of St. Michael the Archangel vanquishing the devil that has been on the Kuwatro Kantos and Bilog bottles for over 100 years were turned into artworks honoring the brave doctors, nurses, security guards, factory workers, delivery and grocery personnel. These artworks were posted on Ginebra San Miguel’s Facebook Page and netizens were inspired to react and share.

Ginebra San Miguel responded to the clamor to make these artworks an actual bottle label so a limited edition Kuwatro Kantos bottle was released with the commemorative label featuring the healthcare workers. Ginebra San Miguel also gave more reasons to toast the Filipinos’ heroic deeds and never-say-die spirit when it launched its newest products – GSM Blue Flavors Tamarind Punch and the Ginebra San Miguel Hari one-liter bottle at the live online concert.

A Night of Hope

The live online concert featured three of the Philippines’ biggest bands namely Banda ni Kleggy, Silent Sanctuary, and December Avenue not only kept netizens entertained with their hits, they also sent out messages of hope and encouragement.

Hosted by Magic 89.9’s DJ Suzy Gamboa and DJ CJ Rivera, viewers were encouraged to prepare their favorite Ginebra San Miguel drinks as they were also treated to the special participation of industry idols such as Sue Ramirez, 2020 Ginebra San Miguel Calendar Girl Sanya Lopez, top favorite candidates from Miss Universe Philippines pageant, and the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Gin Kings.

As the event carried on and the festivities came to a close, guests and viewers gathered in a virtual toast as heroes celebrating heroes and gave thanks to everyone who made the unforgettable night possible.

You can still catch the first Ginumanfest live online concert event via Ginebra San Miguel’s Official Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/BarangayGinebra/

This event was brought to us by Ginebra San Miguel, GSM Blue, and GSM Premium Gin and was powered by Magic 89.9.
