From Tradition to Celebration: The Origins of Christmas Ham

1:30:00 AM

In the realm of festive feasts, few dishes hold the iconic status that Christmas ham does. As families gather around the table to celebrate the holiday season, the succulent aroma of ham often takes center stage. But how did this delectable tradition begin, earning its place as a Christmas culinary staple?

The roots of Christmas ham trace back centuries, with its origins deeply intertwined with cultural practices and seasonal festivities. One prevailing theory suggests that the tradition of serving ham during Christmas can be linked to ancient pagan celebrations. In many cultures, pigs were slaughtered during the winter months, and the meat was cured and preserved to ensure a stable food supply throughout the colder season.

As Christianity spread across Europe, the practice of feasting on ham during the winter months continued, blending seamlessly with the Christmas festivities. The timing of these winter pig slaughters coincided with the Christmas season, giving rise to the association between ham and the holiday. The salt-curing process not only preserved the meat but also imparted a distinctive flavor that became synonymous with Christmas indulgence.

The specific term "Christmas ham" began to gain popularity as the dish became a focal point of holiday celebrations. In medieval England, for example, the tradition of serving a boar's head as a centerpiece during Christmas feasts was well-established. Over time, this evolved into the more familiar ham we know today, as the boar's head was gradually replaced by the easier-to-obtain and equally delicious ham.

Fast forward to the New World, and Christmas ham continued to evolve. In the United States, the Southern tradition of serving ham during the holidays became deeply ingrained, with many families adopting the practice during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The influence of Southern cuisine on Christmas ham spread throughout the country, solidifying its place as a beloved holiday dish.

Now, as we approach the Robinsons Christmas Ham Festival in 2023, the tradition of celebrating with this savory delight takes center stage once again. Robinsons Antipolo Main Atrium will host the festival's kick-off on December 9, 2023, at 3 PM, inviting families and food enthusiasts to revel in the festive atmosphere and partake in the joyous occasion.

The Robinsons Christmas Ham Festival pays homage to the rich history and cultural significance of Christmas ham, offering a platform for local communities to come together in the spirit of merriment. This annual celebration not only showcases the culinary delight of Christmas ham but also highlights the diverse ways in which this tradition is embraced and reinvented across generations.

As we immerse ourselves in the upcoming festivities, it's worth noting that the Christmas ham tradition is not just about the delectable flavors but also about the shared moments and the sense of continuity it brings to our celebrations. Whether glazed, smoked, or honey-baked, the Christmas ham has transcended its humble origins to become a symbol of togetherness and joy.

11:01:00 PM

When was the last time I covered something like this? Well, I think that was before the pandemic and it's really exciting and thrilling to see the participants go for the prize. So, it was an honor to be part of the bloggers that witness this another winning moment with Robinsons Appliances.

So, this is Robinsons Appliances' highly anticipated "Race to a Minute" and has reached its final pitstop at the Galleria South mall in San Pedro City, Laguna. After successful events in Robinsons Valencia, Robinson Galleria Cebu, and Robinsons Tuguegarao, four teams from the Greater Manila Area will compete for the chance to win up to PHP220,000 worth of appliances and gadgets.

According to Donna May San Luis, Marketing Services Manager of Robinsons Appliances, the event is an annual celebration to show gratitude to their loyal customers who have supported them throughout the year. Since its launch in 2017, the "Race to a Minute" has been a highly anticipated event where chosen participants from the four major regions in the Philippines complete tasks for 60 seconds, vying for amazing prizes and thrilling memories.

“For almost a month, we’ve been traveling around the Philippines to bring excitement and fun to Robinsons Appliances' loyal customers. The "Race to a Minute" is composed of six pitstops wherein players must finish assigned tasks within 60 seconds. Each pitstop will test each member's physical and mental capabilities, with the earliest time they reach the next pitstop giving them a higher chance of receiving the highest-valued prize. Imagine the excitement not knowing if you can complete the task or not and what's interesting is what prizes you'll going to win. Anyway it was really fun being part of this event. Though not a player but there's still the thrill. We just hope that there will be a similar challenge for bloggers. Anyway we'll be watching out for it.

So, who wins in this last leg of the Race To A Minute? Well, there were four teams and top winner is the Yellow Team or the Yellow Rockets, Red Team or Red Cheers on the 2nd place, followed by the third place which is the Blue Team or the Blue Knights, and lastly the Green Team or the Green Brigades. First or last, still they get to win prizes which is not but for exerting great effort in running and solving problems. So, for the Yellow Rockets congrats!!!!

5:04:00 PM

One of the most precious virtue of man, "giving". Few people value this character traits and good to know that Robinsons Supermarket is one of the initiator of this kind of activity with their Robinsons Supermarket "Give" Promo. It inspires people to share the wellness of giving.

With the belief that everyone has the capacity to give and of course to receive as well. The value of giving and receiving is the core value that inspires their shoppers to do the same. Though it was through a promo, still, giving is something to be proud of, especially when you know that the things you will give will surely help the needy.

The gift of health, as Robinsons Supermarket culminates its Route to Wellness campaign with its “Give” promo. The program aims to show people exciting ways to win prizes, get freebies, and share their blessings with other people.

The Route to Wellness year-long campaign encourages Robinsons Supermarket customers to switch to a healthy lifestyle by providing nutritious food options to Filipino families through exciting and rewarding promos.
From November 1 to December 31, 2017, the Give Wellness promo will reward customers with a P100 off coupon when they spend P3000 worth of items inclusive of P500 worth of purchases from participating brands such as Enfagrow A+ Four, CDO, Selecta, Purefoods, Del Monte, Ceelin, Kojiesan, Promil Gold, Unilever, and P&G.
To officially kick-off the festivities, Robinsons Supermarket invited shoppers and their families to the “Give Wellness” event at the Eastwood Mall Open Park in Libis, Quezon City. McLisse graced the Event, that makes Patrons of Robinsons Supermarket enjoyed the program. McCoy De Leon and Elisse Joson or McLisse had fun during the games with their supporters and gave a few songs to thank Robinsons Shoppers.

Since giving should be taught to kids, our family was glad to be part of the kick-off of Robinsons Supermarket because our kids was able to learn the value of giving and at the same time enjoyed the activities.

Both our kids enjoyed the games offered in one of the booths. They also enjoyed creating their Cookie design and also the activity where they need to get gold and silver strips to be counted as part of the donations that Robinsons Supermarket will give.

We explained the game to our kids and the reason why they are going to do it. Right after that the kids were very eager to do it because they know the reason why. Our kids know that we were also foster children before that's why our family is very much close into this kind of activities. We know the feelings of being a foster child. This way we can impart to our kids the value of helping others.

Through the event’s polar express theme, participants had a merry time hopping onto a train ride full of games and prizes, activities and freebies. With the goal of giving back to the community, they took part in a game where they collected golden balls with corresponding values to help Robinsons Supermarket reach its P100,000 worth of donations to World Vision, a Christian, relief, development and advocacy organization dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice.

The “Give Wellness” event will travel to Novaliches from Nov. 10-12, Canlubang, Laguna from Nov. 17-19, and Gen. Trias, Cavite from Nov. 24-26 to enable people to discover and share the gift of health and wellness to others.
