Environment and Shirt Advocacy! Two in One!

11:54:00 PM

This is the Shirt

Shirts are one of the essential things that we need. Shirts have given us the warm and feeling of being protected, from cold, from sickness and from other things that may harm our body. Sometimes we go without the lower clothing like the shorts and pants but still cool just like one of Tom Cruz’s movie where he slides in with his polo shirt and brief only.  That was a hit during that time and most ladies loved that.

Shirts gains and loses its value at the same time.  For masses, like us, who wears shirts with brands loses its value but when prominent people wear that same kind of shirt gains its value very much.  So that’s how shirts loses and gains its value.

For the simple people once a shirt is worn it embodies the whole being of the wearer and the shirt.  They become one in character and in everything.  The shirt gains value from the owner.

One of the Miss Earth of 2008 who joined with us  in the Tree Planting Activity
(It's not that shirt that I am donating. Hehehe)
My shirt story is somewhat short and this shirt is the only surviving shirt that I haven’t worn out.  Most of my environmental shirts were already faded and some of it is really used up.   It really did serve its purpose of protecting me.  The shirt is a tree planting shirt which we used when we planted trees along the SCTEX or Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway.   Yes we did plant on that stretch and yes also because I’m an environmentalist.  I fight for the sake of Mother Earth.

Not an Environmental Activity but in the Organization it's called
Social Environment
(A Medical Mission for the indigent people in Pampanga)
Since I started working, attending environmental activities of our organization has been too hard for me to be there in every activity.  So when our office started the campaign to plant trees along the SCTEX it livens and flicker the fire in me of being an environmental advocate.  Since then that shirt has been my constant reminder that even though I’m at work and couldn’t join the organization’s activity still the flame of the organizations ideology is still bursting inside of me.

I may not have written a very well story but sharing something that is worth for the people to learn something more about the environment is good enough for me.  I just want those who will use and see that shirt to constantly be reminded of our present situation and all of us have things to share for Mother Earth.  So, I love this shirt! Now I want someone else to love it too! I support the Electrolux Wash-athon Clothes Donation Advocacy.

Pony's Show Off

2:36:00 PM

Calling all graphic designer and graphic design enthusiasts!  I think you might like to see and join this. Here's their press release and the mechanics as well on how to join their contest.

Rebel designers and visionaries are invited to show off their creative streak and visual genius in Pony Footwear’s digital film and poster art competition billed “Show Off.” A competition open to everyone, each contestant is expected to interpret Pony Footwear’s tagline “Let’s Get It On” using imagery, digital design and short narrative.

There are two categories for this competition, namely: the Digi-Film Contest, for which participants are encouraged to submit an original 60-second short video that must highlight the image of any Pony footwear and may also contain digital animation and text; and the Digital Art Poster Contest, wherein participants are expected to produce original photo which should have a title, a short narrative describing the concept and a clearly visible image of Pony Footwear. Contestants may send in more than one entry.

The “Show Off” contest begins on June 15 and will run until October 15, 2011. Entries will be judged on concept and story (50%), visual impact (30%) and number of online votes (20%). The best part is the prize that awaits each winner of the Digi-Film and Digital Art Poster categories: First prize is P40,000 cash plus P10,000 worth of Pony shoes; Second prize is P20,000 cash and P5,000 worth of Pony shoes; and Third price is P10,000 cash and P5,000 worth of Pony shoes.

Pony is an American brand of footwear, founded in Brooklyn, New York in 1972. Pony has since become a top global athletic brand and, by the ‘80s, the brand had been worn by champion athletes in the World Cup, Super Bowl, NBA and the likes.

A 2001 re-launch of the brand, Pony footwear became associated entertainment celebrities like Justin Timberlake, Snoop Dogg and Paris Hilton. Rebel rockers like Staind, Limp Bizkit and Korn—whose lead singer, Jonathan Davis, even had his own signature Pony shoes that he wore during live performances.

Pony’s image thrives on breaking conventions and revolutionary attitude. The PONY “Show Off” digital art competition hopes to capture the youthful exuberance and the fighting spirit of its users, whose talents and vision might just be the beginning of a new generation finally taking over. Participants may send their entries to ponyshowoff@yahoo.com.ph.

Bum's Search For Rock and Goth Cosplayers

2:21:00 PM

Cosplay has been an unpopular event in recent years.  Most of them were laughed about and considered as disturb personalities.  But that was a few years ago and now Cosplay has been recognized and adored by so many most especially the teens of this generation.  Aside from it as an event and a venue to recreate one’s self it has become also as basis for some fashion trends that are worn by Cosplay enthusiasts.
Most cosplayers bear more of the personality and character that is being portrayed by an individual.  It is like copying and mimicking in a creative manner.

Now, more and more clothing companies are riding the band wagon of cosplay effect and BUM is one of them.  After their successful “My Story” they will continue it with the cosplay design that encourages cosplayers and fashionistas to create a fashion based on the likes of their famous anime, manga or other characters.  So to mark this fashion assimilation, Bum is opening a contest for young Filipinos through their website. The local clothing brand is inviting young stylephiles to show their individual interpretation of the Cosplay trend by using pieces from Bum. While interested participants are allowed to wear their take on their favorite anime characters, the total ensemble should have shades of Emo Rock and Goth.

BUM products (apparel) should be the core component of the costume design based on the character of choice. Costumes may be enhanced by accessories such as wigs, make-up, contact lenses, and other props. If they're feeling a little bit more creative, computer graphics may also be used in the photo layout to enhance the costume/character (with the BUM logo prominently seen in the photo).

Well if you’re interested perhaps a good look of what participants can get will entice them to participate and be part of it.  Here they are Nikon D3000 DSLR Camera, Blackberry 3G phones, Samsung ES80 cameras, and tokens from Bum.  Now isn’t it enticing enough to make your costume design based on the following characters.

Promo period starts from August 8, 2011 to October 30, 2011. Announcement of winners will be on October 31, 2011. To know more about the contest rules and mechanics, visit www.bumequipment.com.ph. Bum products are available at Bum Boutiques and leading Department Stores nationwide.
