Is this the end of Eat Bulaga as we know it? Lawmaker's bold plan to oust TVJ and take over production company rocks entertainment industry

6:35:00 AM

It has been the talk in the entertainment industry and even on social media, that there seems to be a takeover will happen in the longest running noontime TV show, Eat Bulaga. It is allegedly believed that for Samboanga del Sur lawmaker, Romy Jalosjos is behind of all the stir. But, for the information of all, Romy Jalosjos is one of the owners of the production company where Eat Bulaga is under.

Jalosjos is reportedly planning to oust Eat Bulaga's three iconic hosts, Tito, Vic, and Joey (TVJ), citing their age as a hindrance to the show's success. But that's not all - he also wants to seize control of the show's production company, Television and Production Exponents (TAPE), which is currently under the leadership of Tony Tuviera. And if Jalosjos has his way, he plans to rename the show, a bold move for a program that has been on air for decades.

To sweeten the deal, Jalosjos is also trying to lure and gain the favor of other TV hosts, such as Wally Bayola, Jose Manalo, and Allan K., to his side. But according to sources, these Dabarkads are all loyal to "bossings" and aren't budging.

Jalosjos isn't the only one vying for the attention of high-profile TV personalities, though. It appears that Willie Revillame is also in the mix, adding even more intrigue to this already-complicated situation.

Naturally, this potential takeover has caught the current management of Eat Bulaga off-guard, with Tuviera already scrambling to come up with a solution. If Jalosjos succeeds, Tuviera has already come up with a new title for the show, which will reportedly feature a new set of hosts called the "Dabarkads."

As fans start suggesting possible new names for Eat Bulaga - "Wow Bulaga" and "Eat Showtime" are just a couple of suggestions - the fate of the show remains uncertain.

As most of the fans says "it's not Eat Bulaga without the original team (TVJ) in it." And there might be a drop of viewership if it happens.

Will Jalosjos get his way, or will TVJ emerge victorious? One thing's for sure - this is one drama that's sure to keep us all glued to our screens. Stay tuned!

A and Q Film Production's MMFF entry Nelia honors nurses, doctors, and medical frontliners

4:41:00 AM

There are plenty of stories of heroism from the lines of our nurses, from the war era to pre-pandemic, but the stories were kept in the realm of the medical industry not until the pandemic came. But for us, heroes or not, our frontliners are here to serve the public in whatever situations “Considering the circumstances of the pandemic, it is timely, probably high time, to give honor and commendation to our health and medical workers, especially nurses, doctors, and other allied services, and that this movie may be or will be related to their functions in serving the public as well.” This was the statement of Atty. Aldwin Alegre, producer of the 2021 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Nelia, at the virtual press conference held for the film on December 11.

Nelia is the only suspense thriller that made it to this year’s festival. It’s about a nurse who tries to uncover the mystery behind the deaths of patients in Room 009 and also discusses the issue of mental health among others.

According to Nelia's co-producer and screenwriter Atty. Melanie Honey Quiño, it was not A and Q Films Production’s intention at first to make a film about nurses and doctors. “Actually, before the pandemic, we were planning to make educational movies, but it was cancelled or postponed maybe for next year,” she said. It’s a wonderful coincidence that the main characters in Nelia happen to be nurses and doctors, who are considered heroes because of their service and sacrifice in the fight against COVID-19.

Although Nelia's story is fictional, Atty. Quiño emphasizes how the film shows the importance of health and medical workers in our daily life. "Doctors and nurses have a soft spot in my heart because they help and take care of us when we are sick. So it is very timely that we are presenting their story during the pandemic."

Aside from this, what else inspired A and Q to make Nelia into a full length film was the impact of the pandemic on the Filipino film industry, especially the film industry workers who lost their jobs in the past year. “I was once asked if we considered the possible profit we could earn from the film because we are still in a pandemic, but we didn't really think about making a profit. We thought about how we could be of help to the industry people who lost their jobs. Instead of just giving them ayuda, maybe it would be better if we give them jobs,” said Atty. Quiño.

Nelia also discusses the issue of mental health and Atty. Quiño hopes that the film will help open the minds of many people who still do not believe in the importance of taking care of people's mental health, especially in this time of pandemic. “During the filming, we consulted with psychiatrists to find out what the real condition of people with schizophrenia is, because we want people to see what they are going through. Hopefully, when they watch Nelia, we can encourage people with mental health conditions to seek professional help as well,” said Atty. Quiño.

Nelia will be screened on December 25 in select theaters in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. It stars Winwyn Marquez, Raymond Bagatsing, Mon Confiado, Ali Forbes, Shido Roxas, and Juan Carlos Galano, and is directed by Lester Dimaranan.

The pilot episode is set to premiere this November 23 and will air every Monday at 9:30 PM on TV5.

Next on TV5’s slew of fresh primetime teleserye is the romantic comedy that will make viewers swoon with excitement. What is mind boggling though, is that, the said suspect that continues to torment them is already dead. Viewers can catch Carpool on TV5 starting November 26 and will air every Thursday at 9:30 PM.

Kagat ng Dilim, is the 2020 evolution of the horror anthology series in the early 2000s. The stories, created by directors Lawrence Fajardo, Richard Somes, Paul Basinillo and Rae Red, are set to give a new generation of Pinoy horror fans a few more reasons to be afraid of the dark. Headlined by top Viva talents such as Matteo Guidicelli, Cristine Reyes, Maui Taylor & Ella Cruz, the series is launching this November 27 and will air every Friday at 9:30PM.
