8:00:00 AM

From out of the wreckage of the American Civil War, the great state of Nevada came into being on October 31st, 1864. Its creation immediately helped to secure the re-election of Abraham Lincoln, the passage of the Thirteenth Amendment and, ultimately, the future of the union. Today, that proud but painful history is enshrined in the two words emblazoned on the upper left-hand corner of the state flag: ‘BATTLE BORN’.

I AM GIANT The Horrifying Truth

2:23:00 PM
L-R: Ed Martin, Shelton Woolright, Aja Timu, Paul Matthews

Press Release

THIS AUGUST I AM GIANT RELEASE THEIR HOTLY ANTICIPATED DEBUT ALBUM THE HORRIFYING TRUTH VIA SONY MUSIC

On The Horrifying Truth, I Am Giant have bound together what they describe as “a collection of stories, thoughts, observations and exploration” into one cohesive and hard-hitting explosion of sound and melody. From first song ‘Purple Heart’ to closer ‘After The War’, the sharp lyrical themes draw the listener into the band’s own experience of a growing awareness of mortality and the slow loss of innocence. And yet, I Am Giant have produced an album fuelled by a youthful idealism, not despite but because of the hard learned lessons that are a reality of modern life. The Horrifying Truth is pure, unadulterated rock, with its heart on its sleeve and an unquenchable fire in its soul.

The London-based quartet is comprised of English vocalist Ed Martin, sticks-man Shelton Woolright (formerly of multi-platinum selling band Blindspott), bassist Paul Matthews (formerly of Auckland outfits Stylus and Tadpole) and veteran guitar-slinger Aja Timu, the last to join the IAG line-up.

‘And We’ll Defy’ is the first single from I Am Giant’s much anticipated debut. Bassist Paul Matthews explains “‘And We'll Defy’ is a song about the human need to believe in and belong to something that can define and guide us and about how vulnerable and easily led we can become as a consequence.”

The album also includes all three of I Am Giant’s hit singles from their 2010 City Limits EP – ‘City Limits’, ‘Neon Sunrise’ and ‘Living The Crash’ – all of which hit the top two spots on The Rock FM’s national airplay charts, and have had combined sales in excess of 15,000, not to mention videos featuring world surfing champion Kelly Slater, champion skater Tony Hawke and some of the world’s best extreme athletes.

The Horrifying Truth was recorded with acclaimed Australian alt rock producer/engineer Forrester Savell between Sony Studios in Sydney, and Forrester’s studio at Sing Sing Studios in Melbourne between January and April 2011, and was co-produced by bassist Paul Matthews and drummer Shelton Woolright.

Live the band are a force to be reckoned with, as countless audiences around the world can attest. From headlining sold-out NZ tours, Big Day Out Auckland and Sydney, and Homegrown, to Tiger Translate parties in Vietnam, Camden Barfly, Levi’s Hong Kong, Quiksilver World Pro Bali, Big Night In Singapore, Viper Room LA, Mercury Lounge New York, British Surf Champs and supporting Taking Back Sunday in the UK, I Am Giant have cut their teeth and tested their mettle on some of the world’s hottest stages.

This June and July, I AM GIANT is scheduled for Australian and Asian tour. Their Asian tour includes the Philippines, which is set on July 9 to be held in Hard Rock Café (Makati City).

THE OFFSPRING TALK ABOUT THEIR NEW ALBUM ‘DAYS GO BY’

2:24:00 PM

Here's another readings for the avid followers of the music industry. Check the whole details about The OFFSPRING's latest album entitled "Days Go By".

Press Release
"We want to offer something new with every album," says Dexter Holland, frontman of THE OFFSPRING.

After nine records, that's certainly not an easy task for any band. However, THE OFFSPRING have more than a few surprises up their sleeves, and their ninth studio album, DAYS GO BY, is staggering proof. Produced by Bob Rock (Metallica, Mötley Crüe, The Cult), the record sees the group embracing every side of their sound, while simultaneously blazing new trails.

The Huntington Beach, CA quartet—Dexter Holland (vocals, guitar), Noodles (guitar), Greg Kriesel (bass) and Pete Parada (drums)—once again break all the rules in true punk fashion. The title track and first single glides on an irresistible riff and arena-sized hook. Meanwhile, "OC Guns" swings from swaggering SoCal reggae into a mariachi breakdown, and "Cruising California (Bumpin' in My Trunk)" hilariously recounts an afternoon rolling around the beach with nothing but time to kill and scantily girls to flirt with. Then, there's the final speed punk death march of dual salvo "Dividing by Zero" and "Slim Pickens Does The Right Thing And Rides The Bomb To Hell." It's unique, unpredictable, and undeniably THE OFFSPRING.

The band's last album, 2008's Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace, featured the alternative and rock radio staples “Hammerhead” and “You're Gonna Go Far, Kid.” Also among their best-known hits are the rock anthems “Self Esteem,” “Come Out And Play (Keep ‘Em Separated)” and “The Kids Aren't Alright." They've performed over 1100 shows across the globe and sold more than 36 million albums worldwide. Their 1994 release Smash remains the highest-selling album of all-time on an independent label.

In 2010 after a successful touring cycle behind Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace, the four musicians regrouped in their Orange County studio to begin carving out ideas for their next offering. Holland took a trip to visit Rock in Hawaii. After collaborating with the producer on the previous record, it was like they'd simply picked up where they left off.

"The last album turned out really great, so we wanted to work with Bob again," Holland explains. "When you go with a producer for the second time, it can go one of two ways. Either, since you've gotten to know each other, everything gets a lot better. Or, sometimes, you've gotten too comfortable with each other, and it stops being professional. The producer becomes too much like a buddy. Luckily, it didn't go that way. Bob encouraged us to throw all of our ideas out there." The title track actually ignited the entire process. They began working on that song first, revisiting it throughout the entire process, and actually finishing it in the last batch. For Holland, the song remains emblematic of a pervasive overarching theme.

"It tied everything together and was the most representative of what I was trying to get at," he reveals. "Time marches on. We have to get through life and pull ourselves up by our boot straps. No one is going to do it for you. At the same time, there's a message of hope, and I wanted that to come across. The last few years have been really tough on a lot of people. You can see it on TV or in the news. The song doesn't simply say, 'Let's revolt.' It's about the spirit that things can get better."

There's nothing quite as cathartic as seeing the band live though, and that's where the material on DAYS GO BY will burn the brightest. It's because even after all this time, the group's reason for being on stage hasn't changed. It's as pure as it's ever been. "We share a love of this music that we got into at such a young age," declares Noodles. "It meant the same thing or a very similar thing to all of us back then as it does now. We love recording. We love hanging out backstage. We love giving each other shit and taking the piss out of each other. We love playing."

It's no surprise Holland feels the same. "We still do it because it's what we love. We feel inspired to make the best music we can and try to make the world a bit better in the process. When the audience sings back to you, there's nothing like it." There will be a lot more of that to come with DAYS GO BY.

PEDICAB RETURNS WITH “KAYA MO MAG-SANDO?”

8:48:00 PM

After making their major label debut album “Shinji Ilabas Mo Na Ang Helicopter” which produced the hit singles “Ang Pusa Mo”, “FX” and “Simulan Mo Na”, alternative band Pedicab returns with a new EP entitled “Kaya Mo Mag-Sando?”

The EP, which is currently the #1 most downloaded album at MyMusicStore.com.ph (the Philippines’ version of iTunes), features 6 brand new tracks including the carrier single “Otomatik”. Other tracks in the EP are: “Kaya Mo Mag-Sando?”, “Ang Apoy”, “La Liga Filipina”, “Insekto” and “The Shot”.

In “Kaya Mo Mag-Sando?”, the band employed a wide array of sounds and samples, including acoustic guitars, simulated horns and strings, tribal beats, and a lot of percussion. (More cowbell!) In fact, none of the EP’s six tracks remotely resemble any song on the band’s previous two records, but longtime fans and listeners will certainly appreciate – if not come to expect – the sonic evolution and the quirky grooves that the five seasoned musicians (yes, including the filmmaker) that make up Pedicab consistently provide.

Pedicab is composed of Diego Mapa on lead vocals, synthesizer and percussion; Raimund Marasigan on synthesizer, percussion, vocals; Mike Dizon on drums and percussion; Jason Caballa on guitar, percussion and vocals and RA Rivera on sampler, synthesizer and vocals.

“Kaya Mo Mag-Sando?” is now out under MCA Music in CDs at leading record stores and online via MyMusicStore.com.ph. To download “Otomatik” as your ringback tone, just text KD463 to 2332 (GLOBE), OTOM to 2728 (SMART) and 5493903 to 2300 (SUN). Or text PEDICAB to 3456 (for Globe and Smart subscribers only).

Pop-rock trio HANSON re-visits the Philippines with New Album Shout it Out!

12:45:00 PM
Image from bestweekever.tv
Does any of you remembers the MMMBop days?  Well, I definitely remember that time.  It was a craze!  Remembering that makes me realized how I've grown already and so are they.  It was really that long and I wonder what would be their music now.

Last week I get an invite with the presscon of the Hanson and because of unforeseen schedule I just let my correspondence cover the said event.  Here's the rest of the story...

To most of the world, Hanson were three little boys who sang infectious and catchy songs like “I Will Come to You,” “Penny and Me” and “Where’s the Love.” Fifteen years after hearing their ubiquitous "MMMBop" here, there, and everywhere—the boys are back to reward loyal Pinoy fans with some of their greatest pop-rock anthems.

In support of their highly-anticipated new studio record released by Polyeast Records, “Shout It Out,” Dayly Entertainment and Fox International Channels stage the Hanson Shout It Out Tour 2012 on March 30, 2012 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum and March 31, 2012 at Waterfront Hotel Cebu. PolyEast Records’ Robin Nievera will serve as the front act for the Metro Manila gig. Nievera has recently launched his debut album “Overwait” under PolyEast Records preceded by his first single “in 3’s.”

Hanson brothers Isaac, Taylor, and Zac, --the pop-rock boy band from Tulsa, Oklahoma that took the radio by storm in 1997-- are back with a force to be reckoned with. Experience a non-stop fun and dancing and the chance to bring back a phenomenon with one of the purest pop hitmakers of the last two decades.

Releasing their most ambitious album to date which reflects the music that Hanson listened to growing up-- 60's soul and 70's songwriters-- Shout it Out is now available in stores under by PolyEast Records. The new album, which debuted at #2 on the US Billboard Independent charts, has fuelled the continued passion of fans around the world; led by the infectious soul-inspired single “Thinking ‘Bout Somethin’” and the smash follow-up “Give A Little.” The album highlights music legends, guest bass player Bob Babbit of Motown fame, and horn arranger Jerry Hey, best known for his work with Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones and Earth Wind and Fire.

The three-time Grammy-nominated band has also been enjoying a massive resurgence with the first single’s video which pays homage to a scene from the classic movie "Blues Brothers" and features a guest appearance by "Wird Al" Yankovich. The 12-track set will mark the band's third release on its own 3CG Records label (including 2004's Underneath and 2007's The Walk) and distributed by PolyEast Records here in the Philippines. Fans can now buy the album at all major record outlets or download the songs at www.mymusicstore.com.ph

Drawing on the classic sounds of R&B, soul and blues albums they listened to growing up, Shout it Out is a breezy, sun-kissed collection of 12 hook-heavy, brass-indebted rock songs. The album includes the opener "Waiting For This," the groove-based "Kiss Me When You Come Home"; gospel- influenced "Carry You There"; leaning towards the easy-listening type of "And I Waited"; catchy and distinctive guitar riff of "Give a Little"; big band-esque sound "Make it Out Alive"; piano-driven ballad "Use Me Up"; the mid-tempo leanings of "These Walls" and "Voice in the Chorus"; and the vocal-driven album closer "Me, Myself and I."

Billboard said that Shout It Out represents some of the band’s “most soulful work ever committed to record”, while Salon hailed that the new single “may be their finest moment yet”, and Entertainment Weekly praised “Thinking ‘Bout Somethin’” as “a delicious, catchy slice of popsoul.”

PolyEast Records will also release Hanson’s “THE BEST OF 5” CD+DVD – a collection of Hanson’s live performances of their singles, released over the last 13 years. This exceptional concert series invites the millions of Hanson’s fans to re-live more than a decade of the band’s music and their renowned dynamic live shows, and gives an unparalleled look at why Hanson have stood the test of time.

Clarke Isaac (31 y.o.), Jordan Taylor (29 y.o.), and Zac Walker (26 y.o.) have spanned many different genres, including rock, blues, folk, and pop. They are most noted for their Grammy-nominated 1997 monster hit, “MMMBop” and have sold over 16 million albums. Their 1997 album “Middle of Nowhere” was met with critical acclaim and went on to achieve multi-platinum status and led the band being the youngest-ever nominated songwriters.

Over more than 15 years since their debut major release, the band has earned praises for their songwriting, musicianship and dynamic live performances with New York‘s Village Voice calling them the "Finest Straight Up Rock Band In America."

Well the band did have their concert here in Manila and in Cebu it's just too bad that I wasn't able to watch the Hanson Shout It Out Tour 2012 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum last March 30, 2012 which was presented by Dayly Entertainment.

The event was presented by Dayly Entertainment and Fox International Channels. Special thanks to Gold’s Gym and Metro Cuisine.

MCA MUSIC ARTISTS BAG MYX MUSIC AWARDS

7:43:00 AM
As the MYX Music Awards concluded many music artist are very happy of the outcome.  Here's a simple round-up from MCA with artist who bag the awards.

Two of MCA Music’s major domestic artists went home victorious at the recent MYX Music Awards held recently at the Music Museum.

Rock band Chicosci’s new single “Unbelievable” was voted by a combination of MYX viewers and artists as “Favorite Remake”. The song is a cover of the EMF original which is included in the compilation album “90s Music Comes Alive” under MCA Music. Its music video was directed by Paolo Ruiz and Tower of Doom and was supported by Samsung Galaxy S Wifi 5.0. “Unbelievable” easily made it at MYX charts just days after its premiere last year. The band is currently finishing their new album under MCA Music.

“We are so thankful for those who voted four our music video which was quite different from what we usually do like doing a cover and shooting a video during one of our tours,” Miggy said.

Another winner was electronic-pop sensation Somedaydream who bagged the “Favorite MYX Celebirty VJ”. Since debuting at last year’s MYX Music Awards, so many good things came along for this talented Ateneo student which also led him to a MYX Celebrity VJ stint in June 2011. His album is still out under Mecca Music and MCA Music which includes the hit singles “Hey Daydreamer”, “Delivery Boys” and “Sing This Song”.

“I was just there last year to perform and now I won an award! It’s unbelievable and I’m so happy that MYX is always there to support,” Somedaydream said.

Since 2006, MYX, the number 1 music channel in the Philippines honors the biggest hitmakers in the Philippines via the MYX Music Awards.

Jazz It Up With Tria Bascon

8:32:00 PM

I only heard jazz music when I'm watching old movies.  A complete combo or band of musical instruments and take note the most common or should I say famous instrument in a jazz music is the saxophone.  To me it marks jazz when the combo or band is in coat and tie and the singer with beautiful red lipstick and a very glamorous hairstyle plus a sparkling evening gown.

Last night was indeed a jazz it up night as Tria Bascon launches her latest album "Wanderlust" under Universal Records and produced by Moy Ortiz of The Company.  As we all know The Company has been around for more than a decade already and as I recall jazz has been one of their genre.

Tria Bascon sings some of her songs in the album, together with Aquarela and The Company.  It was really a great moving night.    I think everyone was also astonished with the remake and "jazzification" of the known "Boom Tarat Tarat".  It was great, feet-thumbing and funny at the same time.

After the performance, bloggers were able to get a chance to have a chat, picture, and autograph signing with Tria Bascon.

With a niche music like jazz it is indeed small and because quite few people appreciate this kind of music the chances of bringing more people to like is really hard but according to Moy Ortiz' thought of jazzifying music like the "Boom Tarat Tarat" then perhaps it will bridge the gap.

For me music is a part of life and like what Tria Bascon did say in her performance "Music is a Journey"!

If you like JAZZ, Tria Bascon's debut album "Wanderlust" will be available in record stores nationwide under Universal Records.

ARKO's Newest Album "Bitter, Sweet, and Even"

3:24:00 AM

Just got home from an album launch held at ARENA Sports Bar.  The place was not that big but good enough to accommodate a number of people while the band is performing on stage.  Yes, it is a band and to be precise it is an indie band called ARKO.  I'm sure a lot of the readers will raise their eyebrows and wonder who is this band.    Actually when a blogger friend invited me and message me the event I didn't actually easily grasps that it was a rock band not until I came to the venue.

Admittedly, I wasn't familiar with the indie band so this is a great time for me to know them more and hear their music mostly.

Since it was the launching of their 2nd Album entitled "Bitter, Sweet and Even", I, together with the other bloggers get a chance to ask questions about their band.  We also get a chance to get up close with them and ask some more questions that they willingly answers but of course there are some that are off the record.

Why ARKO?  According to them they based it on the arch structure which shows the strength of the band that the more pressure being put on them makes them even stronger.  It was not their first name but from a revision of their first band name which they find it easier to pronounce than their previous name.

ARKO band is composed of four great and talented individuals namely Brian Sta. Ana who plays the guitar, Ivan Raquid on bass, Boyet Robleado on drums and Nathalie Parayno as their vocalist.  I'm not much of a good critic with regards to music but I can say that each  member of the band are great in what they are playing and they exceeded my expectation, especially when I heard almost every song in their album tracks.

The band has been together for 7 years already and they have been through different sides of their life and their life as a band.  For this year it has been one of the good side for them because they were able to release their 2nd Album which was independently produced, one of their songs were already on MYX, and they were the first band to be featured in Fansilog.com. and the band's music video "Sayang" was produced by Fansilog.com.

I'm sure this band will be great and I'll be looking forward for their next step in their career.

Aside from the launching of ARKO's 2nd Album it was also the launching of the Fansilog.com which is a newest music content website solely for OPM Artists and fans.  Artists, bands, and fans can log in and exchange.  Also artists and bands can upload  their songs and videos and let their fans know where their next gig will be and at the same time view exclusive content like interviews, music videos, bootlegs, and versions.

Fansilog.com was conceived by four individuals from various fields, a freelance video producer Frank Lloyd Mamaril, Robbie Ortega who's a Licensed Engineer, Jason Talon an IT Practitioner, and Raul Robles who's  an IT Support Engineer.   Fansilog.com is not yet on it's full blown but expect something good from because everything is made out of their love and advocacy in producing good Pinoy Music to Filipinos.
