Developing Young Tech Talents is Crucial to Support the Growth of E-Commerce

10:08:00 PM

If you ask me, from the time E-commerce started to flourish in the country, it continues to play a significantly important role in the Philippine market and is estimated to be worth US$12 billion by 2025. As more consumers turn to e-commerce, and as more businesses capitalize on the potential of the emerging digital economy, there is also a rising demand for qualified tech talents. According to Linkedin, tech roles make up the majority of “emerging jobs” in the region, with robotics engineer, cyber security specialist, and javascript developer roles making the job trend list.

Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, prepares and nurtures students and professionals for the digital landscape through its various talent development initiatives. One of these is the Shopee Apprentice Program which is an internship program designed to develop young tech talents into leaders through high-impact projects, specialized learning and development training, and mentorships led by Shopee leaders.

Martin Yu, Director at Shopee Philippines, said, “As the demand for tech roles rises, Shopee will continue to train and equip the next generation of leaders through initiatives like the Shopee Apprentice Program. We will ramp up our efforts to provide proper mentorship and a well-rounded work experience for individuals joining our internship program.”

These Participants of the Shopee Apprentice Program highlight how they gained significant professional and personal growth to jumpstart their careers in e-commerce.

For Kyla, the Shopee Apprentice Program was an enriching experience. With a specialization in data science and analytics and equipped with advanced coding skills, she created end-to-end training portals during her stint with the Shopee Business Intelligence Team. “Even though the entire program was held virtually, Shopee translated their work culture online which is a great factor in my whole experience as an apprentice. I learned a lot from my mentors and also improved my skills in terms of presentation, time management, and communication. The program encouraged me to step up and be more confident to drive better results with what I do. I am glad a lot of people supported me throughout my whole Shopee journey,” Kyla shared.

Lance, another Shopee Apprentice Program participant, said that his experience was eye-opening, improved his problem-solving skills, and helped him understand the industry better. He worked with the People Team and displayed exemplary standing not only when it comes to his studies but also with his work at Shopee. “With Shopee, I learned how to look at a multifaceted problem, break it down into its constituent parts, and build it back together to form a comprehensive, results-driven strategy. With this mindset, I was able to drive concrete impact by implementing workable solutions that will help drive the business forward.”

After finishing the program, Kyla highly recommends other individuals check out the program for growth and new learnings. “For those who want a career in e-commerce and tech, the Shopee Apprentice Program can definitely equip you with the necessary skills through their mentorships, training, and projects. You can definitely drive your own growth as well as bring value and positive impact to Shopee through this internship. If you are up for a challenge to do meaningful work, the Shopee Apprentice Program might just be for you,” Kyla shared.

Limited Edition Brings a Different Kind of Everlasting Love

7:11:00 AM

Once upon a time, three fine gentlemen named Jethro, Arnold and Mario, figure in a different kind of love, complete with its many saccharine trappings, weep-triggering tribulations and promise of happily ever after which are all in “Limited Edition.”

“Limited Edition” is a romantic drama about finding one’s elusive and everlasting love with a love triangle story arc that gives it more kilig, heartstrings pull, and a fairy-tale like conclusion of who ends up with who.

“What makes him lovable is his innocence and simplicity,” says Jomari Angeles about Mario. “Not all of us are born with the right knowledge about life and love right away. He is a hopeless romantic and pag pag nakuha na ang loob niya or pagna-inlove na siya bibigay niya ang lahat sa kanyang partner.”

Andrew Gan, on being Jethro enthuses: “The most challenging part about being him is how to feel like him, to live in his shoes, and give justice to that feeling of falling in love with another young man. I want to be truthful lalo na pag naramdaman na niya na he is in love with Mario.”

“Well, his only fault is that he fell in love with Mario as well,” declares Ron Angeles who is Arnold. “I should say my being a pambansang third wheel is solidified and becomes a notch higher in this romantic BL drama. Ilalaban ko talaga yung feelings ko for Mario and my character has sincere and pure intentions.”

Director Jill Singson Urdaneta avers: “The process of love and loving, of being loved and in love, everyone who will give us their time and support, they will witness it in Limited Edition. The many discoveries about one’s self, insecurities exposed, that willingness to compromise and sacrifice, to make a relationship work because all relationships need a lot of work and commitment to make it work. All these and more, are in this drama about romantic connections and everlasting possibilities.”

Other cast members are Donna Cariaga (Chona, Mario’s best friend), Michelle Jhoie Ferraris: as Mamita, Mario's nanay nanayan Miss Iyah Mina: Ivory, Mamita's rival Miss Yayo Aguila: Jethro's mom Miss Ruby Ruiz: Mario's mom Introducing are Anton Arceo, Aaron Concepcion, Celine Dorado and Luke Hembling

Story by Bernard Umali, screen play written John Fontanos with Jill Singson Urdaneta as its director. Produced by world-famous shoe designer Jojo Bragais, with Michelle Jhoie Ferraris as co-producer.

The Significant 21

12:09:00 AM

Today is my big day! In our life, we always try to find the cute and relevant answer to our being, Of course even the things that revolve around us. So, today is 21 and I'm wondering if you can give at least some reasoning to things that are significant about 21.

To start, I'm sharing a few things that I know that have 21 but I still don't understand why they prefer to have it numbered as 21.

1. Why is it called the 21 Gun Salute?

2. Why do we have a game in basketball first to finish 21 points?

3. Why 21 in Black Jack?

So, can you add other things that are significant to 21? Hope you can share!

11:40:00 PM

Rico Blanco, one of the OPM icons, unifies Filipinos through a spin of the hit Pinoy Big Brother theme song "Pinoy Ako". Renaming it to "Pinoy Tayo" This is after 16 years the song was first heard and eventually became an anthem of empowerment for many Filipinos.

Rico’s special anniversary version of the Orange and Lemons original “Pinoy Ako” will serve as the official theme song of the upcoming "Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) Kumunity Season 10."

“It’s such an honor to do the song. Just what it stands for. The original version is so well-loved,” he said. “This is a chance to rediscover it.”

Now with vibrant elements of Filipino ethnic sound, “Pinoy Tayo” is a composition of ABS-CBN Music creative director Jonathan Manalo, Clem Castro, and Rico, who also produced the remake while Jonathan served as the surpervising producer.

Rico detailed his inspiration in making the new version. “Tinanong ko ang sarili ko ‘ano ba 'yung ako’ and I put in all the small elements that my songs had throughout the years,” he shared.

“Excited ako about that happiness na mabibigay ng kanta. It’s a very bright, upbeat song, and I kept that from the original version,” he added.

Aside from being this year’s PBB theme song, “Pinoy Tayo” will also serve as the lead single in the expansive 25-track album that will celebrate the music of Jonathan in the last 20 years.

The multi-awarded songwriter and producer remains in awe of how the song has become a statement on Pinoy pride and how it continues to uplift the spirits of generations of Pinoy audiences.

“I’m grateful to hear people saying that this song has become part of the soundtrack of their lives,” Jonathan shared. “As I embark on my 20th anniversary in the music industry this year, an icon, a legend who I look up to helped me kickstart the celebration by re-imagining this song with his genius.”

Jonathan also spoke about what the song “Pinoy Tayo” means to him. “Ito yung gusto naming ibigay sa audience na mapagaan man lang ang pinagdadaaanan nating lahat at magbigay ng hope at inspirasyon individually and as a nation. And also to remind us na maraming reasons pa rin to celebrate ang ating pagiging Pilipino,” he said.

JobStreet Partners with CSC for the 24,000 Government Job Positions Nationwide Through the Virtual Career Fair with Its Career Tools

11:04:00 PM

A partnership to offer more than 24,000 government job vacancies nationwide for job seekers. The leading online job portal JobStreet hosts its Virtual Career Fair in partnership with the Civil Service Commission (CSC) happening on September 20 to 24.

This is in line with the platform’s continued commitment to provide jobs that matter during these increasingly unpredictable times, empowering candidates that were affected by the pandemic and the recent strict implementation of community quarantine.

Over 160 government agencies are participating in the Virtual Career Fair, offering various specializations such as Security/Armed Forces/Protective Services, Education Clerical/Administrative Support, General Work (Housekeeper, Driver, Dispatch, Messenger, etc), Healthcare (Nurse, Medical Support, Assistant), among others.

Central Visayas, CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon) and MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan), Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga, and Cordillera Administrative Region are the top locations for the said government jobs.

According to The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), around 90,000 workers were affected by the recent Enhanced Community Quarantine. They have either permanently lost their jobs or are under flexible work arrangements.

Based on JobStreet’s Global Talent Survey, many jobseekers are now prioritizing job security over financial compensation due to the unpredictability of the COVID-19 crisis. Furthermore, the government sector is one of the top employers in JobStreet, hence viewed as a more secure career option by Filipino workers at this time.

With this, JobStreet and CSC offer employment opportunities in the public sector by bringing jobseekers and hiring government agencies together in the virtual career fair.

The joint initiative is also in commemoration of the CSC’s 121st Philippine Civil Service Anniversary, wherein they committed to holding an enjoyable, productive, and helpful virtual job fair this 2021.

“It has always been JobStreet’s advocacy to provide every Filipino with jobs that matter, and it’s an honor that the Civil Service Commission trusted us again to be a part of this initiative to help candidates rebuild themselves and find an opportunity to be of service to our nation,” shared JobStreet Philippines Country Manager Philip Gioca.

Also, during the press briefing, we did ask about the percentage of the plantilla positions and the contract of services that will be offered at this job fair. Accordingly, it was responded that the percentage is much of a 70% and 30%. Interesting that there will be more job opportunities will be offered in the government sector.

Applicants during the Virtual Career Fair in partnership with CSC can explore the platform’s live chat feature and Facebook Live events, with the chance to be interviewed on-the-spot. To register for the Virtual Career Fair, visit http://jobstreet.com.ph/vcf-9.

Talent empowerment with the right tools

On top of this event, JobStreet has also amplified its valuable support for jobseekers with its newest feature in the platform—Career Tools.

Dedicated to uplift and empower candidates in their professional journey, JobStreet’s Career Tools is a convenient, one-stop-shop feature with helpful tools and information to guide jobseekers in making the right career decisions. It includes an Interview Practice Tool, Resume Templates, Cover Letter Templates, a Career Development Planner, and a Salary Calculator.

The Interview Practice Tool contains the most commonly asked interview questions with actionable tips to help candidates prepare and respond positively for their next interview. Candidates can also utilize the downloadable Resume and Cover Letter Templates as a starting point to their online job hunting. The Career Tool also offers a Career Development Planner to help guide jobseekers towards their next step and a Salary Calculator for a quick way to find out their estimated take-home pay.

For easy access, Jobstreet created a landing page meant as a one stop destination for retrieving all career tools.

“We’re very excited to introduce the Career Tool to our candidates and be of great help with their online job hunting. JobStreet is doing its best to support jobseekers more than ever and we hope that through this simple initiative, we can make their career journey a little bit more manageable and productive,” said JobStreet Senior Sales Manager Mr. Ryan Tordesillas. Viewers sang the praises of the episode on social media, commending its stars, touching storyline, and lessons about unconditional love and family.

“I already watched the advanced episode on iWantTFC, but I had to watch it again on Kapamilya Channel, kudos @DreamscapePH. The series is so refreshing and very light but still very heartwarming,” said Twitter user @denydaveee.

“This new teleserye of ABS-CBN is just so good. This is very poignant and a feel-good kind of teleserye. It will make you laugh, cry, and learn a lot of lessons. All the elements of a great series are in Marry Me Marry You. KUDOS TO ABS-CBN!” said @JustBGYO.

World Vision's 5K Campaign Challenge Supported by Student Fundraiser to Helps Thousands of Learners

11:14:00 AM

Students across the Philippines once again showed their support for fellow learners whose education were affected by the pandemic by joining World Vision’s 2020 5K Campaign Challenge, a fundraising initiative for the benefit of the child-focused organization’s COVID-19 emergency response.

Going above and beyond their goals, World Vision’s student ambassadors were able to raise more than PHP 300,000 and the total amount of donations will be used to help over 3,000 learners all over the country.

The 5K Campaign Challenge’s objective is to encourage the participating students to fundraise among their peers and relatives to help children receive modules and gadgets to continue their education.

During the pandemic, the common challenge among children have been their education, which was why Abutin Nat10 was selected as the focus of the 2020 5K Campaign Challenge. Funds raised for Abutin Na10, a program created by World Vision in partnership with DepEd, will contribute to DepEd’s Learning Continuity Plan and its multi modal approaches, so that children can continue to learn and develop their life skills even in these difficult times. The students who participated in the 5K Campaign Challenge came from schools across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao in a Virtual Congratulatory Event hosted by World Vision, the following students were recognized because of their huge contribution to make the initiative a great success.

The Top Advocates or students who encouraged others to join the campaign are Arisha of Brent International School, who invited friends to participate in the fundraising and even partnered with a local business to reach her goals, Carina of Homeschool Global, who also invited 3 other friends to fundraise with her and Bernice of Homeschool Global, who advocated for the cause through a livestream performance.

The First Achievers or students who first achieved the target goal of PHP 5,000 are Paige of Homeschool Global, Imma of Paref Woodrose, and Luisa of De La Salle MHSI.

Meanwhile, the Top Fundraisers of the 5K Campaign Challenge are Kreisha of Homeschool Global, Yashmin of Ateneo De Cebu, and Margau Leanne of Beacon Academy.

“I was reading several articles on how to do volunteer work as a teenager who was being discouraged to go out during the pandemic. I wanted to be useful, to contribute to the success of others and to help. What do I do to figure out where to start? World Vision happened to teach me how to answer that question. With that, I would love to take this opportunity to thank this organization for giving the youth the chance to contribute and be the change society wishes to see,” said Leanne, the Top Fundraiser from Beacon Academy who was able to raise PHP 92,000 for the initiative.

“Being accepted into the student ambassadorship program will remain a huge blessing to me as it opened me to the path I’ve always wanted to take during the pandemic, which is to be able to help even if I was restricted to the four corners of my bedroom. Being awarded as one of the top fundraisers made me realize a lot of things… in that even during tough times, there are still some people willing to extend their helping hand to those who need it,” Leanne shared.

World Vision Celebrity Ambassador Jasmine Curtis-Smith led the 5K Campaign Challenge by inspiring everyone to unite and become #OneForChildren especially during this challenging period.

“The reality is that not everyone has access to internet or gadgets. This campaign will provide students with different modes of learning because we believe that their education should not be affected or stopped because of Covid-19. Again, Abutin Na10 sampung piso, sampung araw, sampung milyong Pilipino para sa sampung milyong mag-aaral!” said Curtis-Smith.

Meanwhile, the Perkins Twins Jesse and Christian also congratulated the youth who steps up to help others during these trying times. “What you guys do is such an amazing thing because obviously it helps those in need but also they’re the next generation, they’ll never forget the help you’ve given them,” Jesse said.

Also supporting the 5K Campaign Challenge are World Vision’s corporate partners Promate and Urbanize.

“It’s so inspiring to see students helping and supporting fellow students, especially the ones who need our help. Thank you for sharing joy and hope to them. We find that the times creating anxiety for us, sapping the hope from our hearts, these are the same things that spur us to get out of our comfort zones and try to become the better version of our ourselves in order to reach out and be a blessing to others,” said Jun Godornes, World Vision Resource Development Director.

“We also hope you discovered something new about yourself, what you are most passionate about, how you can do things you thought were impossible...and become the change agents that we need to see more in this world,” Godornes added.

Eight singers fight for their dreams in 5th "Tawag ng Tanghalan" finals on "It's Showtime"

12:31:00 PM

This coming Saturday, one of eight singers from different parts of the country will change their life forever as they battle it in the fifth "Tawag ng Tanghalan" grand finals on "It's Showtime"

Find out who among finalists Reiven Umali, Froilan Cedilla, Psalm Manalo, Gem Christian, Adrian Manibale, Anthony Castillo, Lorraine Galvez and Aixia Mallary will follow the footsteps of Noven Belleza, Janine Berdin, and Elaine Duran, and JM Yosures.

The new champion will win P1 million, a brand new house and lot from Camella worth P2.3 million, a recording contract with ABS-CBN Music, a management contract under Star Magic's Polaris, and a trophy designed by Toym Imao.

During the mediacon of the Tawag ng Tanghalan, we were able to ask the Hurados if they have already seen potentials to these finalists and who among they think will be hailed as the Grand Champion? The Hurados graciously shared that each one of them has their favorites already but sometimes things change on the day of the final round.

During the first round, the finalists are set to showcase their chosen 'pangmalakasang' song. At the end, only the three finalists with the highest scores from the judges will move on to the last round.

Like the past 'Huling Tapatan,' the three remaining finalists will perform a medley of their musical influences. Compared to the first round, half of the scores of the contestants will come from the votes of the viewers. The finalist who garners the highest combined scores from the judges' scores and votes from the madlang people will take home the fifth "TNT" grand champion title.

Who among the eight finalists will prevail? Don't miss the intense battle in the 'Huling Tapatan' of "Tawag sa Tanghalan" on "It's Showtime" on A2Z channel on free TV and digital TV boxes, Kapamilya Channel on cable and satellite TV, Kapamilya Online Live on ABS-CBN Entertainment’s YouTube channel and Facebook page, and on the iWantTFC app (iOs and Android) and on iwanttfc.com. Three Shopee Sellers Gear Up for 9.9 Super Shopping Day to Scale their Business

8:00:00 AM

The current global situation brought about significant lifestyle changes: more people are working from home, consumers are shopping online for their convenience, and business owners are transitioning to online and e-commerce platforms to stay afloat. Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, shares three sellers who found success online with Shopee and how they are preparing for the much-anticipated 9.9 Super Shopping Day.

Obra Ni Juan: Supporting Employees and their Families

Obra Ni Juan, a local clothing store, halted their operations inside a leading mall when the pandemic hit. They decided to shift to online selling to continue their business, launching their Shopee store last June 2021. Obra Ni Juan started to make their products available to a bigger and wider audience while continuously generating sales even with their physical stores being closed. “Because of Shopee, our employees are able to continue providing for their families despite these trying times.”

They are content with the Shopee Seller experience as Shopee provided them with an assigned Incubation Manager who guides them through the onboarding process and supports them in maximizing the different tools they can use to increase sales and foot traffic. With 9.9 approaching, Obra Ni Juan says, “We are bolstering our stocks for our existing products and we have been continuously preparing new items and designs to offer to our Shopee customers. We will also utilize other Shopee marketing incentives such as free Shopee Ad Credits; which leads to clicks that are converted to actual sales and continue to utilize the available marketing tools to scale our business.”

Cleanstar: Building Customer Loyalty

Cleanstar is a one-stop shop for all dental floss needs that supplies affordable, innovative, and high-quality dental floss pick products. During the early stages of their business, they saw Shopee as an opportunity to extend their reach. “By regularly attending the online webinars organized by Shopee and accessing helpful resources on educational hubs, we managed to set up our Shopee online store. The key is utilizing everything that Shopee offers and to just be consistent in what you are doing.”

Cleanstar leverages Shopee Live and In-App Business Insights the most. “Through Shopee Live, we can discuss our product line to our customers and also educate people regarding oral health which helped us gain more followers. Through In-app Business Insights, we also get to monitor the overall performance and health of our store through data and inform us on which aspects we can improve on, and allows us to reply to customers’ feedback about our products. It’s really humbling to see the growth in our follower numbers, and how they give feedback every time they order.”

With the number of orders they were receiving, Cleanstar eventually decided to hire a team just for fulfilling Shopee orders. This coming 9.9, Cleanstar is preparing its stocks early to fulfill orders without the hassle. They also put up ads on the site to improve the visibility of the products.

Martipaps Gift Shop: Increased Daily Orders

Martipaps Gift Shop started selling on Shopee in 2016. They sell various kinds of toys from building blocks and toy cars to mini kitchen sets and pop-up tent playhouses. In the past, they used to do meet-ups and pick-ups, but it took up too much time. “The time spent on doing meet-ups was transformed by selling on Shopee because of its free shipping and Shopee guarantee. A door-to-door cash-on-delivery service where buyers can feel at ease with their purchase. Martipaps saw an increase in sales as they managed to save time on doing meet-ups to focus on managing their store on Shopee.”

Ever since joining Shopee, her orders grew from one shipment a day to about 100 packages daily. She encourages aspiring entrepreneurs to try being a Shopee seller. “Start small. Start from the things you love, because if you love what you are doing you will never get tired of it. You will look for more exciting things, improvements, and additions to make your shop better. Utilize all the tools that Shopee offers - they are like helping hands that can support us to succeed in the online selling business.”

It's the global hotness or 'global init' of this much-talked-about teleserye, "Init Sa Magdamag" as they near their finale episodes. With the rising intensity of anger and hatred of Peterson and Tupe, the upcoming episodes will surely give an ending that is not to forget.

Even the casts and directors of the TV series all have memorable scenes that they will cherish and will be their memory of the series.

This last week with Rita (Yam Concepcion) and Tupe's (Gerald Anderson) plan to start a new life disrupted as Peterson (JM de Guzman) vows to take baby Andrew with him.

Joko (Manny Chua) has finally given his testimony and identified Peterson as the mastermind behind Tupe's shoulder injury and the killing of Tupe's father. Tupe's chances of winning the case against Peterson has strengthened after Lab (Boom Labrusca) came out to support Joko’s testimony with an important piece of evidence.

Lab has a video containing the conversation between Joko and Peterson after they accidentally killed Tupe's father. Aside from it being a piece of strong evidence against Peterson, it will also help Rita win the sole custody of baby Andrew.
