The Hunger Games, Showing Today

3/23/2012 11:20:00 AM

Thanks to Chicken Deli I will have a chance to watch the movie "The Hunger Games".  Just hoping to get there on time to get the tickets and also the dinner.  Hahaha!

So, The Hunger Games, what was about this movie and why most people are eagerly waiting to watch this?  The actors, perhaps, or the story.  I don't know anything about how it is foretold in the book written by Suzanne Collins.  It is a bestseller young-adult book in 2008 and I have not read it err I did not read it because of lack of sources, etc.  This movie is starred by Jennifer Lawrence who played Katniss Everdeen, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth, directed by Gary Ross.

The story is set in a future where food shortages is chronic and the outskirt regions are being suppressed.  The only thing left to do to avoid suppression is to annually provide 24 young people by lottery to compete and fight to the death on live television.

So, I'm very anxious to watch the movie as well and learn why people are expecting this.

MCA MUSIC ARTISTS BAG MYX MUSIC AWARDS

3/23/2012 07:43:00 AM
As the MYX Music Awards concluded many music artist are very happy of the outcome.  Here's a simple round-up from MCA with artist who bag the awards.

Two of MCA Music’s major domestic artists went home victorious at the recent MYX Music Awards held recently at the Music Museum.

Rock band Chicosci’s new single “Unbelievable” was voted by a combination of MYX viewers and artists as “Favorite Remake”. The song is a cover of the EMF original which is included in the compilation album “90s Music Comes Alive” under MCA Music. Its music video was directed by Paolo Ruiz and Tower of Doom and was supported by Samsung Galaxy S Wifi 5.0. “Unbelievable” easily made it at MYX charts just days after its premiere last year. The band is currently finishing their new album under MCA Music.

“We are so thankful for those who voted four our music video which was quite different from what we usually do like doing a cover and shooting a video during one of our tours,” Miggy said.

Another winner was electronic-pop sensation Somedaydream who bagged the “Favorite MYX Celebirty VJ”. Since debuting at last year’s MYX Music Awards, so many good things came along for this talented Ateneo student which also led him to a MYX Celebrity VJ stint in June 2011. His album is still out under Mecca Music and MCA Music which includes the hit singles “Hey Daydreamer”, “Delivery Boys” and “Sing This Song”.

“I was just there last year to perform and now I won an award! It’s unbelievable and I’m so happy that MYX is always there to support,” Somedaydream said.

Since 2006, MYX, the number 1 music channel in the Philippines honors the biggest hitmakers in the Philippines via the MYX Music Awards.

Zia Quizon ‘Favorite New Artist’ at MYX Music Awards 2012

3/20/2012 07:12:00 PM

Round ups for the local music industry!

In her few months in showbiz, Zia has already proven that she is more than just the daughter of King of Comedy Dolphy and Divine Diva Zsa Zsa Padilla’s daughter. She has recently been named as 2012 MYX Music Awards’ Favorite New Artist.

Zia’s music, which fused pop, soul, jazz, and retro R&B, has been widely-accepted by the public yielding the hit song Ako Na Lang. She recently launched her new single Dear Lonely, lifted from her debut album Zia. The album has recently been awarded a Gold Record Award.

Simple Girl is also available for download at www.mymusicstore.com.ph. It also boasts of having more than 160,000 songs making it the country’s biggest music download site, where one can get tracks as low as P20.

“I’m proud to say that all the songs in the album were arranged to my style of singing. My producers made sure I was comfortable with singing the songs in the album,” Zia says. “I am happy that people appreciate my music.”

It was no surprise then when Zia chose to cover her mom Zsa Zsa Padilla’s ‘80s hit ‘Mambobola’. “We were throwing some ideas around and I think I actually suggested the song myself. I felt that it would be very nice to have one of my mom’s songs on the album as a kind of tribute to her for all of the things she has done for me.”

Zia also covered Sheena Easton’s ‘So Much In Love’ and Michael Jackson’s ‘Smile’, dedicated to her comedian father Dolphy. “Aside from my mom, I would say that my dad’s taste in music really shaped mine. He influenced me to appreciate the classics—from standards to classical to world music and even oldies.”

MyMusicStore, created to support OPM artists and to cater to Pinoy music lovers, is the ultimate one-stop shop for those who can’t wait to have their music downloads right here, right now!

Buzz About Yahoo! She, Uncircumcised are Better Partner

3/19/2012 10:13:00 PM
I believed that the new section of Yahoo! Philippines, the Yahoo! She was launched during the Women's Day and with that span of time it was already making a buzz, especially with one of its article "Women Have Better Sex With An Uncircumcised Partner".  Hmm...

I got curious about this topic this morning when people from Yahoo! Philippines visited the studio of Jam 88.3. It was a short discussion and introduction about the newest section of Yahoo! but made a big question mark on all Filipino men.

The basis of the article where taken from the recent study conducted by the International Journal of Epidemiology last January 2012.  It shows that both men and women have more sexual satisfaction when the male partner is uncircumcised.  The article also disclosed that in the world only 30% of male population are circumcised.  It is also added that in the Philippines 93% of the males have gone through the ritual of circumcision.

In my opinion, circumcision were already introduced way back in history and I don't think that it is a barbaric act, even the bible requires it so.  I think it is much cleaner.  Another thing, when it comes to pleasure and satisfaction perhaps both partners can achieve that goal if they are more open to each other and knows what exactly they want.  It's just a matter of communication and body language.

The Rise of Classical Rock

3/16/2012 06:18:00 PM

How many music lovers this days are into classical?  Perhaps few because of the different genres available in market today.  What if classical music mixed with rock?  Would you think present generation would love it.  Perhaps!  But what if the musician is as good looking is this artist, David Garrett, perhaps ladies will forget about those present boy bands.

Meet David Garrett,  a virtuoso violinist and crossover musician.  He's a star everywhere from the catwalk to the Billboard charts.

He moves between two musical worlds... and it seems as if two hearts are beating in his chest: David Garrett in the world of classical music celebrated his international breakthrough.  But that was not enough.  he has finally re-invented.  With his crossover albums he conquered the rest of the world and sparked enthusiasm everywhere.  After his spectacular success in the pop-rock world, David Garrett presents his new album "LEGACY" - a classical recording of Beethoven's Violin Concerto.

LEGACY has made a historical chart debut in Germany, entering the Media Control Chart at #6!

This is the Highest Entry for a classical instrumental album in the history of the German charts!  It's a sensational result, proving again that David Garrett is an artist at the top of his game in both worlds - classical and crossover.  The debut for 'Legacy" at #6 is the highest for a classical instrumental recording since Media Control charts were launched in Germany in 1962.  The album has also charted in the Top 10 in Austria at #9, and in the top 20 in Switzerland at #18.

DAvid Garrett is Juilliard grad who at 14 became the youngest soloist signed to the prestigious classic label Deutsche Grammophon and joined the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra three years later.

This international superstar has quickly amassed a huge and devoted audience - especially of a much younger fanbase than the listeners usually associated with classical music.  His fresh, vibrant take on classical music has shot new life into this genre.  he has gained international stardom, with chart-topping albums and gold and platinum selling discs across Europe, in the UK and the Far East.  The superpowered David Garrett has experienced huge success with American audience as well.  Not only was he Billboard's best-selling Classical Music Artist of 2009, but was the #9 overall New Artist across all genres.

Garrett's unique, and wholly individual style, pays as much homage to Metallica as to Mozart.  His albums cover an incredibly diverse selection of repertoire, representing his love for many gneres, and the ability to tackle each successfully.  Garrett could have easily had a mainstream classical career, but instead chose to reinvent himself as both a classical and a crossover performer, trailblazing a unique career path as a rare multi-genre artist who reaches out equally to politely murmuring black-tie classical audiences in gilded concert halls, and to the hundreds of thousands of boot-stompin', hand-clappin' masses of all ages that pour into venues across the world to hear him play Smooth Criminal and the Habanera from Carmen.

Videos, fan sites and other media of Garrett abound on the internet, but what you won't see in cyberspace is the atmosphere of relaxed enthusiasm that spreads throughout his audiences, or the scores of children that leave his concerts holding Garrett's CDs in hand, wearing his official tour t-shirt, and begging their parents for a violin.

David Garrett's Legacy is now available in major music stores nationwide.  Exclusively distributed by MCA Music Inc.

MDNA, Madonna's 12th Studio Album

3/15/2012 06:42:00 AM

If listeners find all the earmarks and trademarks of Madonna in her latest album, that’s a testament to her deep involvement to the process of creating the package, her twelfth and first outside her old label. The powerplay of maturity and a new beginning she's now embarking on makes this one another turning point to her career strengthened by ingenuity and artistic adventure.

While the album title, “MDNA,” is a mere abbreviation of the Mother of Invention’s world-famous name (as suggested by collaborator M.I.A), its accidental meaning, being Madonna’s DNA, actually defines the finished product as her imprint as one of the world’s most successful artists of all time can be heard all over the collection.

The 12-track album, to be released this March 26, is led by the cool single “Give Me All Your Luvin” featuring Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. By now the track has spread via limited privilege as provided by iTunes --- in the process only hastening the interest and anticipation for the Queen of Pop’s album since 2008.

Her recent Super Bowl appearance seemed to have rubbed on to this engaging track as its official music video has football and cheerleading as main themes.

A second collaboration between Madonna and Minaj comes in the form of the song “I Don’t Give A.”

Album producer Martin Solveig pointed out in an interview, "Madonna is as involved as you can be in the recording process. We literally co-produced the tracks. I mean, at some point she wanted to choose the sound of a snare drum or a synth and that kind of stuff. She was really in the session!"

One other track of high interest prior to the formal physical CD release is “Masterpiece” which bagged the Golden Globe Award for Original Song in the last edition of the Awards.

Recorded in New York and LA, “MDNA” had Madonna reworking with ex-collaborator William Orbit (who worked on “Ray of Light”). The latter co-wrote and co-produced several cuts for the new album.

Other numbers in the album are “G*rl Gone W*ld,” “G*ng B**g,” “I’m Addicted,” “Turn Up the Radio,” “Some Girls,” “Superstar,” “Love Spent,” “I’m A Sinner” and “Falling Free.”

Madonna’s “MDNA” is soon to be out under MCA Music in CDs at leading record bars nationwide or online via mymusicstore.com.ph. To download Madonna’s current single, “Give Me All Your Luvin” featuring Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. on your mobile phones, just text KB285 and send to 2332 for GLOBE/TM, text GIVELUVIN and send to 2728 for SMART/ Talk N’ Text and text 5493368 and send to 2300 for SUN Cellular.

The Clash of Australia and Canada in the Pyromusical

3/14/2012 09:37:00 PM
For the 5th Saturday of the Pyromusical Competition, the sky receives a big bang of fireworks from Australia and Canada.  A good display of fireworks jive with their chosen music.

Here's video of Australia's fireworks presentation.  Too bad I wasn't able to capture the whole presentation but do enjoy viewing it.

For Australia the company is the Fireworkx Inc.  which was foudned by Ian Riedel in 1988.  Mr. Riedel's expertise, innovation and dedication to his craft allowed Fireworkx to quickly become one of the leading fireworks display providers in Australia and overseas.

Here's a video clip of the fireworks presentation of Canada.  I do enjoy their consistency and the chosen music jive with their showcase of fireworks.

For Canada, their entry is the Fireworks Spectacular which was the Champion in 2010's Montreal Fireworks Competition in Canada.  Fireworks Spectacular is a Calgary, Alberta based Pyromusical and traditional fireworks display company that is generally regarded as one of the finest and the most professional fireworks companies in Canada.

If you want to experience the last day of the 3rd Philippine International Pyromusical Competition you can still watch the final Saturday on March 17, 2012 at SM Mall of Asia.

Here are some of pictures taken during the Pyromusical.
