KPop Demon Hunters, the latest animated musical fantasy film from Sony Pictures Animation, has skyrocketed to second on Netflix Philippines’ Top 10 Movies list, drawing curiosity and buzz among K-pop fans, especially SB19 supporters. An easter egg revelation pointed out by fans.
The film tells the story of Huntrixx, a fierce all-girl K-pop group with a secret mission: battling demons disguised in the entertainment world. Their biggest challenge? The Saja Boys, a slick, five-member rival boy band who are, quite literally, demons in disguise.
As the film climbs the Netflix charts, Filipino fans can’t help but speculate: are the Saja Boys a subtle nod to SB19?
The theories are intriguing. For one, the name “Saja Boys” mirrors SB19’s initials, S and B. The number of members matches as well, with both groups featuring five performers. Even more, the characters in the Saja Boys seem to resemble SB19’s real-life members, from their stage presence to their roles within the group.
“I think the similarities are hard to ignore,” one fan posted on social media. “It feels like a playful tribute or maybe even a challenge to our beloved P-pop kings.”
While the film’s creators haven’t confirmed any connections, the buzz is undeniably helping its popularity grow, especially in the Philippines where SB19 commands a massive following.
Directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, KPop Demon Hunters features a star-studded voice cast including Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo-seop, May Hong, Ji-young Yoo, Yunjin Kim, Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Jeong, and Lee Byung-hun. The film blends fantasy action with catchy music, delivering both laughs and thrills in true K-pop fashion.
Whether or not the Saja Boys were inspired by SB19, the movie has clearly struck a chord. Viewers are enjoying the mix of heart-pounding action, cultural flavor, and the unique twist of K-pop meets demon slaying.
