1:07:00 PM

Crowded entrance, a feel of elegance and refinement, the air was filled with anticipation and celebration as Ginebra San Miguel, the world’s largest-selling gin producer, hosted "The Art of Gin" event. This occasion was not only a nod to World Gin Day but also a tribute to Ginebra San Miguel’s remarkable 190-year journey in gin-making. Guests from all walks of life, including media personalities, bloggers, influencers, celebrities, and performers, gathered at Novotel Manila Araneta City to witness the unveiling of a new gem in the brand’s crown—the Ginebra San Miguel Archangel Reserve.

A Journey Through History

Gin, beloved by many across the Philippines, has a storied history that mirrors the country's own cultural evolution. Introduced during the Spanish colonial period, gin quickly became a favored drink among the locals, transcending social classes from the illustrados to the masses. Its versatility and affordability made it a staple in Filipino celebrations, from grand fiestas to humble family gatherings.

Ginebra San Miguel, founded in 1834, has been at the heart of this tradition. Over the years, it has become more than just a beverage; it has woven itself into the social fabric of the nation. Known for its resilient spirit and the iconic “Never Say Die” attitude, Ginebra San Miguel symbolizes the enduring and unwavering spirit of the Filipino people.

The Legacy of Ginebra San Miguel

Ginebra San Miguel's legacy is not just about its longevity but also about its commitment to quality and innovation. The brand's history is marked by numerous accolades and recognitions, attesting to its excellence in gin production. This spirit was evident at "The Art of Gin" event, where guests celebrated not just a brand, but a cultural icon that has stood the test of time.

The Archangel Reserve, the highlight of its ginnovation.

As Ginebra San Miguel commemorates its 190th anniversary, the introduction of the Ginebra San Miguel Archangel Reserve marks a significant milestone. This super-premium dry gin is a testament to nearly two centuries of gin-making expertise. Crafted from a blend of six botanicals—juniper berry, angelica root, coriander seed, lemon peel, orange peel, and liquorice—distilled in copper stills, the Archangel Reserve offers a smooth and balanced finish that caters to discerning palates.

Bottled in a striking emerald green Frasco, the Archangel Reserve features the image of St. Michael the Archangel, a nod to the brand’s rich heritage. This new addition to Ginebra San Miguel’s portfolio stands alongside other premium offerings like the 1834 Premium Distilled Gin, catering to modern and sophisticated tastes.

A sense of pride beams to all the guests who took a shot of the Archangel Reserve. It represents Ginebra San Miguel's commitment to excellence and dedication to providing consumers with the finest distilled spirits. This gin is perfect for those special moments that deserve a distinguished toast.

The significance of Ginebra San Miguel in the community cannot be overstated. It has been a part of Filipino life for generations, from everyday socializing to landmark celebrations. The brand's affordability and quality have made it the drink of choice for many, bridging social divides and bringing people together.

At the heart of the event was a celebration of community and togetherness. The Art of Gin event was a vivid display of how Ginebra San Miguel continues to be an integral part of Filipino culture. A rich blend of history and modern innovation.

World Gin Day provided the perfect backdrop for Ginebra San Miguel to showcase its rich history and innovative spirit. Heavenly Fiesta: Ginebra San Miguel's 2024 Calendar Girl Revealed!

11:35:00 PM

Anticipating the 2024 holidays, many eagerly await the reveal of the upcoming year's calendar model. Often, people speculate about the identity of this model, pondering whether she is a beauty queen or a well-known celebrity.

Ginebra San Miguel, renowned for featuring numerous Calendar Girls, continues this tradition. Recently, at a lively media launch at The Westin Manila in Mandaluyong City, the world's leading gin brand introduced Heaven Peralejo as the 2024 Calendar Girl.

Ginebra San Miguel carefully selects a Calendar Girl who embodies the essence of the brand, and Heaven Peralejo's unwavering spirit has earned her the title of the brand's 2024 Calendar Girl.

Best known for her acting in the movie ‘Nananahimik ang Gabi,’ which awarded her the Philippines Best Actress award from the Asian Academy Creative Awards, as well as starring in the youth series ‘The Rain in España,’ Heaven shared that it is a dream come true for her to endorse an iconic brand, Ginebra San Miguel. “It’s such a beautiful milestone of my life to be part of Ginebra. When I was 18 years old, gin bilog with pineapple juice was my first drink. It’s a dream come true, my first drink is also my first big endorsement,” she said.

With the theme “Philippine Fiesta,” the 2024 edition of the Ginebra San Miguel Calendar showcases Heaven in six vibrant fiesta layouts (Panagbenga, Lantern, Higantes, Pintados, Kadayawan, and Masskara), embodying the vibrant spirit of Philippine Fiestas.

GSMI Marketing Manager Ron Molina said that the 2024 Ginebra calendar serves as a symbolic expression of optimism, unity, and the resounding belief that brighter days are ahead. “Looking forward to 2024, we, at Ginebra, envision a year where the echoes of the pandemic are a distant memory. And the best way to move forward is to embrace a future filled with all-out celebrations, reminiscent of the joyous fiestas that define our culture,” he said.

GSMI Group Product Manager Paolo Jose Tupaz described Heaven as a captivating and talented actress who perfectly captures the Ginebra San Miguel attributes and the essence of the Philippine Fiesta. “Heaven’s authenticity, perseverance, courage, and zest in life embodies the spirit of Ginebra and reflects the beauty, grace, and dynamism of the Filipino culture,” he added.

HEAVEN IN THE VIBRANT WORLD OF FIESTA

Next year’s calendar showcases the beauty and diversity of Filipino culture, with stunning visuals inspired by the colorful and festive celebrations that take place across the archipelago. Heaven described Ginebra as a staple in every Filipino’s drinking occasion, particularly during fiestas. “Hindi magiging buo ang celebration ng mga Pinoy kung walang Ginebra,” says Heaven [The celebration of Filipinos won’t be complete without Ginebra].

As the next face of Ginebra San Miguel, she shared that the Heaven the public would see in the layouts would show her positive perspective on life— on being resilient and outgoing and on enjoying and loving life.

Heavenly Blossoms in Panagbenga

The first is “Panagbenga,” set in Baguio’s renowned flower-themed festival. Heaven is surrounded by vibrant floral displays in this set, showing joy and beauty.

Like how Ginebra San Miguel is a brand associated with joy for bringing people together to celebrate joyous and special moments, Heaven’s infectious smile, bubbly personality, and cheerful spirit also bring joy to those around her.

Heaven holds a special affinity for this particular layout, considering her personal passion for flower arranging, making it a cherished and resonant experience for her.

Heavenly Lights in Lantern Festival

Emerging as one of the brightest stars of the new generation, Heaven sparkles in the next layout against a backdrop of vibrant giant lanterns and a myriad of dancing lights. The featured setting is the Giant Lantern Festival, also known as Ligligan Parul in San Fernando, Pampanga, a spectacle that symbolizes not only the brilliance of light but also the profound sense of hope it brings.

Just as Ginebra has inspired Filipinos to light their lives with choices that reflect their truest and most vibrant selves, Heaven sparkles hope for her family and followers. She constantly reminds others that even in the darkest times, there is always a glimmer of hope.

Heavenly Heights in Higantes

In the third layout, Heaven takes center stage amidst the larger-than-life papier-mâché puppets of the Higantes Festival in Angono, Rizal. Much like these symbolic giants that represent the aspirations of the people of Rizal to achieve greatness and make significant contributions to their hometown’s progress, Heaven, too, aspires to excel in her role as an actress and performer, contributing to the enrichment of the arts.

Heaven is truly ‘ganado sa buhay’ as she managed to graduate with a degree in Business Management from the Southville International School while working her way up to become one of the most recognizable faces in the entertainment industry today.

Heaven in Higantes Festival layout aligns seamlessly with Ginebra’s commitment to upholding traditions of excellence, emphasizing the shared pursuit of greatness and the celebration of achievements within the tapestry of cultural festivities.

Heavenly Design in Pintados

The fourth layout draws inspiration from the Pintados Festival in Leyte, where Heaven is showcased alongside intricate body paintings. Pintados, a festival steeped in historical significance, pays homage to the pre-Spanish tradition of warrior tattooing, where the bravest warriors showcased their valor through intricate ink designs.

Parallel to the festival’s celebration of bravery, Ginebra San Miguel is a brand that reflects the bravery and compassion of every Filipino. Every glass of Ginebra recognizes the hero of every Filipino, one who continues to strive for his dreams, his family, and the whole nation. Likewise, Heaven’s strength and resilience in the face of adversity make her an inspiration to many, fueled by a deep sense of malasakit for herself, her family, and the nation she holds dear.

Heavenly Blessings in Kadayawan

The fifth layout is Kadayawan festival in Davao City, a celebration of life and thanksgiving for nature’s bounty. Here, Heaven is portrayed with the abundance of fruits and vegetables, symbolizing the wealth of culture, the bounties of harvest, and the serenity of living.

Ginebra believes that the key to conquering tomorrow’s challenges lies in taking a moment to appreciate today’s accomplishments. After a tiring day during shoots and film, there’s no better way for Heaven to unwind and recharge than by having a Ginebra drink, taking a moment to be grateful for the things in life as she readies herself for the next challenge.

Heavenly Smiles in Masskara:

The sixth and final layout is the Masskara festival in Bacolod where Heaven is seen together with big, vibrant masks and eye-catching outfits. Originally, the festival was born out of crisis in the 1980s to lift the spirit of the locals and bring back smiles on their faces.

Masskara perfectly captures the “never-say-die” attitude of Ginebra, which Heaven also mirrors in life. Throughout the challenging journey of her mom’s battle with cancer, Heaven has exemplified unwavering strength, resilience, and dedication to support, uplift, and bring smiles to her mom. She shared that, “My love for her would always be there and would always remind me to never give up and to persevere on what I love.”

The much-anticipated 2024 GSM calendar serves as a celebration of Filipino pride and heritage. Beyond its artistic showcase, the calendar holds a dual significance as Ginebra San Miguel commemorates its 190th anniversary. This milestone marks nearly two centuries of crafting iconic moments and flavors that have become an integral part of Filipino festivities.

This edition of the Ginebra San Miguel calendar also features a QR code that consumers can scan using their smartphones to see Heaven Peralejo’s calendars come to life, showing behind-the-scenes videos of her calendar girl photoshoots and a special message to her fans and followers.

THE GINEBRA CALENDAR TRADITION

The Ginebra San Miguel Calendar Girl is a long-held tradition in GSMI and an important part of the brand’s history. Since its inception in 1988, beauty queens, actresses, and models who have made their mark in their respective fields have graced the Ginebra San Miguel calendar. Among them were Marian Rivera (2009 and 2014), Anne Curtis (2011), Solenn Heusaff (2012), Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach (2019), Sanya Lopez (2020), Christelle Abello (2021), Chie Filomeno (2022), and Yassi Pressman (2023). Heaven follows in the footsteps of her aunt, Rica Peralejo, who also served as Ginebra San Miguel Calendar Girl in 2002.

From Repurposing to Renewable Energy: How Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines, Inc. (PCPPI) is Championing Sustainable Living at Home and in Communities

9:41:00 PM

The essence and foundation of sustainability starts at home, as each and every household decision has the power and potential to impact the environment and the communities around us. As a company that supports the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines, Inc. (PCPPI) advocates for the Filipino people to be more conscientious in their consumption and management of precious resources such as water, energy, and oil.

The exclusive manufacturer of PepsiCo beverages in the country, PCPPI reaffirms its sustainability commitments ahead of Earth Day, which is observed worldwide on April 22. According to Frederick D. Ong, PCPPI president and chief executive officer, adopting sustainable lifestyle habits affects people and planet for the better. “The daily decisions we make can help reduce household waste, save expenses, and improve our well-being. Living ‘sustainably’ does not have to be complex, as we can all start with the choices we make at home,” he said.

Re-use and repurpose.
It often takes a fresh perspective to see our everyday tasks differently. One of the ways to reduce household waste is through repurposing old items, like plastic water bottles which may be transformed into plant holders or vases. Used boxes can also be turned into organizers, while brown paper bags can be used as craft paper for school projects.

Meal planning.
Apart from selecting healthier food options from the market or grocery, meal planning has the added benefit of consuming just the right amount of food—thereby cutting down on excess and food waste. Planning meals ahead of time also helps manage one’s budget, as well as electricity costs.

Unplug when not in use.
Turning off that are not in use, using enough water to wash hands, or unplugging fully charged devices are some good practices to manage resource consumption at home. These also help maintain the health of electrical appliances, helping them run properly for longer.

Go digital, go paperless.
One of the shifts accelerated during the community lockdowns was the move towards paperless transactions. Mail and bills are now accessed electronically, minimizing the need to consume paper. With further advances in technology, the possibilities are endless with how the world can help preserve and protect trees.

As PCPPI supports the practice of these sustainable practices, the organization continues to work on its own sustainability initiatives that demonstrate its long-term commitment towards care respect for the environment.

PCPPI aims to reduce the use of virgin plastic and reach 100% recyclable packaging. The company continues to expand its efforts in lightweighting and exploring alternative packaging sources. Since early 2021, PCPPI has also transitioned to renewable energy use to supply the energy requirements of its plants. Solar panels are installed in its Batangas, Cebu, and Davao manufacturing facilities.

In line with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ (DENR) Adopt-an-Estero Program, PCPPI has organized clean-up drives near bodies of water in the communities where it operates. PCPPI has adopted key waterways across the country, including those in San Fernando, Iloilo, Bacolod, Davao, Cebu, and Zamboanga. Partnerships with agencies like the Laguna Lake Development Authority allow PCPPI to regularly meet with other community stakeholders on how to best address environmental concerns and develop innovative ways to protect local ecosystems.

PCPPI is the exclusive manufacturer of PepsiCo beverages in the country. It distributes well-loved brands such as Pepsi-Cola, Mountain Dew, 7-Up, Mirinda, Mug, Gatorade, Sting, Tropicana, Lipton Iced Tea, Milkis, Chum Churum Soonhari, and Premier. Yassi Pressman is Ginebra San Miguel's 2023 Calendar Girl

12:14:00 AM

Every year most of the Barangay Ginebra fans awaits for the unveiling of its Calendar Girl. From the time it started in 1988, which was then Ginebra Angels, up to this date people has always been expecting and guessing who will be the next Calendar Girl. Now, it seems that picking that specific girl or the one has become a yearly responsibility of Ginebra San Miguel Inc. It may be an inspiration for the masculine men but today it is a source of strength and empowerment for the feminine.

So, this coming year Ginebra San Miguel Inc. (GSMI) introduces Filipino-British actress and Queen of the Dance Floor Yassi Pressman as its 2023 Calendar Girl in an event attended by friends from media, social media celebrities, GSMI dealers, and other brand ambassadors.

Yassi was surprised and honored when she got a call that she was chosen to be the newest member of the GSMI family. “Being a part of such a great legacy is something that is going to be a milestone in my life,” says Yassi. “It’s really something special to be part of a company that serves world-class quality products, and it means a lot to me that they chose me to be a part of the brand,” she continued.

It was the first time again, after two years, that the event was held face-to-face. “We are excited to finally hold our Ginebra San Miguel 2023 Calendar Girl launch live again! For us, this launch also signals the atmosphere for next year. The pandemic has affected many Filipinos, but now is the time to recover—armed with Bagong Tapang, to dream and hope again, and to spread that positivity to others,” says Marketing Manager Ron Molina.

With the theme “Queen of the Barangay,” the calendar features Yassi as a modern Filipina that is able to adjust to the new normal with positivity and productivity through her “matapang,” “ganado,” and “never-say-die” attitude.

YASSI AS “QUEEN OF THE BARANGAY”

Yassi prepared herself physically and mentally to be the best representation of what an ideal Ginebra calendar girl should be. She admits that prior to her selection, she was always trying to keep herself fit. “Of course, there were times that I also had to give in to my cravings, but at the end of the day, I knew my priority was to be stronger, healthier, and happier.”

Preparing for the calendar shoot, Yassi pushed herself to do weight training, boxing, and having a healthy diet. “My fitness journey helped me become a better version of myself.” As for her mental preparation, she just kept in mind Ginebra’s taglines like “Ganado sa Buhay,” and “Never-Say-Die.”

With Yassi’s positivity and optimism in life, her personality shined through the six layouts of the Ginebra San Miguel 2023 calendar. The photo shoot was also done on location after two years, reflecting the relaxed and open atmosphere we anticipate in the coming year.

The six layouts are inspired by different cocktail mixes. The first one is “Ginsu Mix” set in an auto repair shop, reminding the importance of hard work and passion in everything we do. The second layout is “Calamansi Surprise,” showing Yassi amidst greenery and nature.

“Kula-Orange Fizz” is the third layout, featuring a background filled with dried pampas grass with wooden trays where one can display spirits and mix cocktails. According to Yassi, she could relate to this design as she had her dream home renovated recently, which now features a lot of touches of brown wood furniture and neutral shades. “I also have a mini bar in my living room–an open space to bond with my family and friends.”

The fourth layout is the “Velocity Mix,” something that seems like it’s from a blockbuster summer movie complete with a ref full of Ginebra products. While “Sky Prisma” is the fifth layout, also in a beach setting, but this time with a picturesque sunset in the background. Last is the “Mango Daiquiri,” where Yassi is magnified by a bonfire by the beach, the best place to experience Ginebra’s creative cocktails and concoctions. Just don't forget your coolers and ice boxes for that perfect night!

Personally, it was hard for Yassi to choose a favorite among the six calendar layouts, but she has a bias toward the “Velocity Mix.” “It’s because I always enjoy beach time with family and friends–a ‘ginstronomic’ trip with our favorite food and gin. The drink also has candies and gummies–the perfect combo for me, as it is sweetness with a kick!”

YASSI ON BEING A MODERN FILIPINA

During the pandemic, the actress and entrepreneur has gained new discoveries about herself–a new purpose, pride, and passion that resonates not only with her family but the whole barangay.

As an empowered Filipina woman, Yassi owns multiple businesses, knows how to tend to her organic garden, fixes things at home, and concocts rejuvenating drinks for herself and her family—all while fulfilling her commitments in the entertainment industry.

With her self-discovery, Yassi also realized to be kinder to herself and has become the “matapang” woman she is by refusing to let difficult circumstances pull her down. “When I was younger, my father always advised me to keep trying because, as he said—if you try and try and you succeed, you’re going to be happy, but if you try and try and you fail, I’ll be there to catch you,” says Yassi. Her family, the source of her “tapang,” made her fearless in the face of whatever trials or tribulations she may face.

Despite her personal struggles, Yassi continues to hone the talents that she already has and allows her inner beauty to radiate, too, in order to inspire others. According to her, she shows her most natural self online and sometimes even reveals some not-so-glamorous side of a celebrity because she believes that it would be healthy for people, especially the youth, to see that genuine side of her.

“I am open to everybody [on social media] about my battles and journey toward being healthier and stronger,” says the 2023 Ginebra calendar girl. “Whenever I get messages from little girls or any netizen saying that I inspire them to dance, act, and to keep moving forward, it gives me the ‘ganado’ feeling and hope and aspiration to empower more women!”

If there are things that the pandemic or the recent months have made women realize, it’s that they can accomplish things that are not expected from them and deliver more than the ordinary. “I think Ginebra San Miguel chose me because I embody courage, passion, and its never-say-die spirit. Growing up in showbusiness, you'd experience a lot of rejections and comments from people, and while we know we should just brush them off—especially the non-constructive criticisms—they sometimes get to you,” adds Yassi.

But amid all these rejections and disappointments in the past, Yassi just soldiered on, keeping a “never say die” attitude. Eventually, she became unstoppable, brimming with positivity and personality, allowing her to rise above the crowd.

As “Queen of the Barangay,” Yassi and her friends know how to have a good time—with good music and drinks, as seen on her social media posts. “We love theme parties; the last one we did was about sunflowers. We also did disco and Coachella.”

The new brand ambassador also shared that her favorite gin drink is the GSM Blue Mojito because of its light taste and her friends can easily enjoy the drink by just simply putting ice or adding any fruits like pineapple for a fruity flavor. As GSM’s newest brand ambassador, Yassi hopes to spread positivity and continue to inspire and empower women and the youth—sharing the “ganado” spirit with her 28 million followers on social media.

Coffee Party at Bo's Coffee During the Opening at Ayala Terraces Fairview

7:53:00 AM

An all Filipino coffee in a cup with a rich flavor and an enticing aroma, would definitely make me more relaxed. That's what I usually feel whenever I get to taste a real coffee. It was like a soothing taste that calms every nerves of my body. Not really sure if it's a good thing but I enjoy having great coffee, I'm a coffee lover but not a frequent drinker of coffee.

The different kinds of coffee is not new to me as I have been tasting and filling my nerves with rich aromas of these coffee beans. Bo's Coffee, an all-Filipino cafe enticed me even more with coffee during the opening of one of their branches located in Ayala Terraces in Fairview, Quezon City. The branch did a coffee party where attendees learn more of the types of coffees they are serving. Another thing is that participants get to experience the step by step procedure of brewing a rich, strong and flavorful coffee. I was one of the lucky attendees to experience it personally. The measurement, the right way of placing the grind coffee on the filter, and the proper way of pouring hot water into the coffee.
To strengthen the vision of spreading the good all-Filipino coffee to more clientele, Bo's Coffee opens 2 more branches in Metro Manila. One in SM Light Mall just near the Boni MRT Station, which is by the way the 90th outlet of the cafe and the other one is the one I was able to attend to in Ayala Terraces in Fairview, Quezon.

"There has been a growing demand in the metropolis to open more cafes so we selected these two prominent locations to address those needs," expressed by Mr. Coochy Mamaclay, Bo's Coffee VP for Brand & Marketing.

"We want everyone to feel the Bo's Coffee experience as they look for a nook and haven where students, friends, and families can study, bond, and share stories in a cozy and feel-at-home atmosphere over their favorite local brew," Mamaclay noted.

According to Ms. Mamaclay, Bo's Coffee workers attest their loyalty to the brand by taking an oath or panata to give the best to their csutomers. They are all called partners and they make sure that once orders are made it is served with a smile. "This is how we Filipinos take care of our guests," according to her.
