Learning More About APEC Summit


Since the APEC Summit is about to start, let us see through behind how it was formed and why it was created. This is for the benefit of the people who would ask what is this summit all about.

So for the information and details that I'll be writing down here are all taken from different sources to provide the things to know about APEC. Fee free to read, learn, and of course make a comment about this article or about the APEC itself.


The APEC Term
The term is actually an acronym for Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). According to source (Wikipedia) it is a forum for 21 Pacific Rim member economies that promotes free trade throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

The Year APEC was Established
It was in 1989 when they started as an informal dialogue group which later on become the premier forum for facilitating economic growth, cooperation, trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region.

APEC is an annual summit of economic leaders attended by the heads of each government of all its members except for Taiwan which is represented by a ministerial-level official because of the China's policy. The hosting of the summit rotates annually and it is customary that all attending members are ought to wear the host country's national costume.

For this year, the Philippines is hosting the APEC Summit which will happen on November 18 to 19. Here are the attendees for this year's summit (source: www.gmanetwork.com).
