There's No Development Without Electricity, One Meralco Foundation Intensify Lighting Projects #LightUpPilipinas

10:19:00 PM

Centuries ago, the basis for development and progress were buildings, water systems, trade, and colonies. Now, electricity is one of the major components to consider in development. For one reason, almost all of the machines, equipment, vehicles, and devices are run by electricity. Productions can't run without the power of electricity.

At present, electricity plays a huge role in our daily lives. From home to work, we all use electricity. It has been the power that runs our machines and equipment. Though we can live without electricity, our economy won't make it.

Just recently, fellow bloggers and yours truly were able to have a chit-chat lunch with the Vice President for Corporate Communication of Meralco, Mr. Joe Zaldarriaga, and Mr. Jeffrey Tarayao, the President for One Meralco Foundation. If you're watching the Meralco Advisories, that's Mr. Zaldarriaga. The place to talk about updates and initiatives of Meralco and its foundation was just the right venue. It is surrounded by beautiful artworks and a bit closer to nature because of the surrounding age-old trees.

According to Mr. Zaldarriaga, Meralco is adapting to the current times. With the flourishing and influx of social media, Meralco is also into to be reached by its customers. Nowadays, social media is a thing for everyone.

Probably the busiest office in the entirety of Meralco is its One Meralco Foundation, which is run by Mr. Jeffrey Tarayao, the President. Its main thrust is to provide a sustainable energy source to hard-to-reach schools and communities in remote areas. During our interview, Mr. Tarayao shared their lighting project stories that most of the time eat up their time by going to the community, giving the currently available energy source, which is solar-powered panels.

Like what Jose Rizal mentioned in one of his poems "Kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan" (the youths are the hope of the nation) but how can they be the hope of the nation when they cannot even finish school because their community is deprived by the luxury of electricity. With this, One Meralco Foundation, under the leadership of Mr. Tarayao, seeks out these electricity-deprived communities to bring the hope of light. I asked, "How do they pick which community to bring their lighting project?" Mr. Tarayao explained that they are thankful to their network of partners who knows about the project. With this, people, agencies, and organizations share information with One Meralco Foundation for communities in need of the lighting project.

Right now, One Meralco Foundation is busy distributing solar-powered lamps. They have given a number of around 3,000 solar lamps to fisherfolks and forest rangers. Not only their lighting project, but they also have the scholarship.

Of course, Meralco and One Meralco Foundation aim to bring light to more Filipinos, lighting up communities and families with their #LightUpPilipnas campaign.
