Atty Joey Lina On Fire at CFD Coalition's NGO Malnutrition War Manual Launch

11:09:00 PM

The Children's First One Thousand Days Coalition (CDFC), under the leadership of Atty Joey Lina, officially launched its operations manual and training program on January 13, 2023, at The Manila Hotel Fiesta Pavilion. The coalition's aim is to assist Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in their collaborative efforts with the government to combat malnutrition.

Enacted through RA 11148, known as the "Kalusugan at Nutrisyon ng Magnanay Act," the law targets the issue of malnutrition within the first one thousand days of a child's life.

This is probably one of the biggest coalition that gathered different organizations together and talks about the need of the children. This is not just about talks but fairly initiates the starting move in creating a nationwide move to address the issue of malnutrition which is what every child should get in their early 1000 days. Not just from the start they were born but from beginning of their conceptions.

During his impassioned speech, Atty Joey Lina stressed the crucial importance of supporting children during their initial one thousand days, which form the foundation of their development.

The coalition boasts an impressive lineup, including Rotary International, Lions Clubs International, Kiwanis International, Junior Chamber International, The Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippines, The Fraternal Order of Eagles - Philippine Eagles, Knights of the Columbus, Knights of Rizal, Save the Children Philippines, World Vision Philippines, Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals, Philippine League of Government and Private Midwives, and Crusade Against Violence.

The operations manual and training program are pivotal developments, outlining the collaborative approach between NGOs and the government in eradicating malnutrition during the first one thousand days of a child's life. This issue significantly contributes to poor school performance, low intelligence quotient, stunting, sickness, and reduced work productivity. The manual serves as a comprehensive guide for NGOs, extending its application from barangays to a national level, with a vision for fostering a healthier future for Filipino children.

To demonstrate their support, department secretaries Dr. Teodoro "Ted" J. Herbosa, DOH, and Atty. Benjamin "Benhur" C. Abalos, Jr., DILG, attended the event. Atty. Baldr H. Bringas, Assistant Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), represented DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian. Additionally, NGO Head Representatives, led by Former Chief Justice Reynato S. Puno, recited the NGOs Declaration of Commitment.
