Doja Cat Brings Personal Paintings to Life in 'Paint The Town Red' MV

8:21:00 PM

Chart-topping sensation and GRAMMY laureate, Doja Cat, ignites the music scene once again with an electrifying revelation: her latest single and its accompanying visual spectacle, "Paint The Town Red," is unveiled today under the banner of Kemosabe Records / RCA Records. The directorial prowess of Nina McNeely (noted for her work with luminaries like Miguel and Fergie) joins forces with Doja Cat herself in crafting the music video, a captivating masterpiece that materialized against the vibrant backdrop of Los Angeles, CA. Embodied within this visual opus are three meticulously crafted paintings by Doja Cat, which serve as the quintessential foundation for each meticulously recreated scene within the video. Rewind to last month, and witness the artistic maestro in action as Doja Cat, adorned with a painter's spirit, conjured the single's artwork right before her fans' eyes during an enchanting Instagram Live session – a tantalizing sneak peek into the auditory and visual marvel that is now unfurled before us.

This is the first official single from Doja Cat since she announced her first North American headline tour, The Scarlet Tour beginning this fall with special guests Ice Spice and Doechii. Previously, Doja Cat dropped her track and video, “Attention” via Kemosabe Records/RCA Records to mass critical acclaim with Rolling Stone calling it “scorching.” Doja Cat was also featured on the cover of V Magazine last month for “The Global Music issue.”

Earlier this year, Doja Cat was featured alongside label mate, SZA on the remix of her #1 Hot 100 song, Kill Bill. On the remix track, Doja Cat received high praise for opening the song with a badass rap verse, followed by SZA’s original chorus; Billboard proclaimed “Doja’s inclusion on the track injects a new excitement: the superstar opens up the remix with detailed rap storytelling.” She also was named one of TIME100’s Most Influential People of 2023, where she graced the cover of one of the four global TIME Magazine April issues as well as being recognized as an honoree and performing at the exclusive TIME100 Gala.

It arrives with an epic music video, directed by Warren Fu (The Weeknd, Kehlani), which offers the first glimpse into the brand-new world Doja is creating.

Doja’s domination continues with the news that her 3rd album, Planet Her is coming summer 2021 via Kemosabe/RCA Records.

Who's Doja Cat and SZA?

About Doja Cat -

Born and raised in L.A., 3-time GRAMMY nominee Doja Cat made her first upload to Soundcloud in 2013 at just 16-years-old. She developed a knack for music by studying piano and dance as a kid and listening to the likes of Busta Rhymes, Erykah Badu, Nicki Minaj, Drake, and more. Soon, she went from obsessing over Catwoman (the Halle Berry version) to “crate digging” on YouTube. The budding talent taught herself Logic and how to compose on a midi controller. Signed to Kemosabe/RCA in 2014, she released her Purrr! EP and followed that with her debut album Amala in spring 2018, but it was her August 2018 release of “Mooo!” which catapulted her into the mainstream and was met with critical acclaim.

Doja Cat released her sophomore album Hot Pink in November 2019 to mass critical acclaim, the album was a platinum success with over 10.3 billion streams worldwide. Hot Pink features “Juicy” which hit #1 at Rhythm radio, “Say So” her Grammy nominated #1 smash record and “Streets”, the viral sensation that soundtracked the ‘Silhouette Challenge,’ one of the biggest TikTok trends to date.

The success of “Say So” which hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has been RIAA certified 3x platinum and streamed over 5.4 billion times catapulted Doja into global superstardom. In 2020 she took home the Best New Artist Award at the MTV VMAs, the MTV EMAs and the AMAs (where she also won the Best Female Soul/R&B Artist Award.) She has been nominated for countless awards including 3 GRAMMY Awards, 4 American Music Awards, 4 MTV VMA Awards, 2 BET Awards, and 2 People’s Choice Awards.

Doja’s creativity and showmanship as a performer have been praised time and time again, she has delivered unique and show stopping performances on nearly all the major Award Show stages including the GRAMMY Awards, the American Music Awards, the Billboard Awards and the MTV VMA and EMA Awards. Her last tour sold out in 10 minutes and she has played numerous festivals including Rap Caviar Live Miami, Posty Fest, Day n Vegas and Rolling Loud LA.

About SZA-

Born in St. Louis and raised in Maplewood, NJ, nine-time Grammy nominee SZA released her major label debut album Ctrl (TDE/RCA) in 2017. Her hit song “All the Stars” with Kendrick Lamar from Black Panther: The Album, Music From and Inspired By, earned her another four Grammy nominations in 2019.  In 2020, SZA released the hypnotic track “Hit Different” featuring Ty Dolla $ign along with the stunning visual that took the internet by storm. To close out the trying year, SZA gifted fans on Christmas Day with the hopeful track “Good Days,” followed by a trippy visual released in March. The single quickly became SZA’s greatest gainer solo single release, peaking at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and marking her first time in the chart’s top ten as the main artist. Doja Cat’s “Say So” earworms its way to global viral prominence

7:40:00 AM

Okay, I've been busy lately and haven't been pretty into the music news. So, this is just something that I saw on my feed and got me curious enough to check it out. Why don't you check out what is this Doja Cat is.

With its effervescent disco sheen, attention-grabbing chorus, and inescapable vibe, Doja Cat’s “Say So” is shaping up to be a global smash. The song currently sits at number 32 on Spotify Philippines Viral 50 and has climbed steadily on the Billboard Hot 100 for more than a month since its debut. In a short period of time, it has reached more than a hundred million streams worldwide, becoming Doja Cat’s biggest hit on Spotify.

The song’s breakthrough could be attributed in part to its success on video-sharing social networking platform, TikTok, where it inspired various dance challenges from top Hollywood celebrities and social media influencers.

Fashion and entertainment magazine Nylon explains how the hip-hop/R&B star’s viral breakout made its way into the consciousness of the short-form video app: “In retrospect, Say So was destined to be a great TikTok fodder: the irresistible disco beat plus sassy lyrics which translate well into easy-to-learn dance moves,” writer Steffanee Wang shares. “At this point, it's fair to say that literally everyone has done the challenge, including James Charles and a girl on like, 20-foot stilts.”

Due to the song’s massive success on the platform, Doja Cat, along with Tyra Banks, recently headlined TikTok’s Black Creators Summit, where she capped off the event with a performance of her current dance craze.

Here in the Philippines, the American rapper, singer and producer’s latest chart-topper is also gaining traction on the aforementioned platform. Singer-actor Iñigo Pascual, ABS-CBN teen star Alexa Ilacad, and G-Force choreographer Yanyan De Jesus recently hopped on the bandwagon with their take on “Say So,” which individually went viral on the day of its release.

AC Bonifacio, another celebrity influencer based in Manila, has recently uploaded a teaser of her upcoming dance cover on various social media platforms. The young multimedia star is set to debut her version of the Doja Cat hit on February 27, Thursday.

And then there’s Filipina YouTube star Niana Guerrero racking up 397,000 likes on TikTok for her bubbly and infectious lip-sync and dance performance of the newest Doja Cat single. This clearly reflects Doja Cat’s rising profile in the country, reaping the rewards of this generation’s preference for meme-ready songs that appeal to youth and online culture sensibilities.

The highly anticipated music video of “Say So” will have its worldwide premiere on YouTube soon. The song is now available on Spotify and other music streaming/download platforms worldwide.
