Movie Review : Ang Babaeng Allergic sa WiFi

8/11/2018 06:39:00 AM

Chocnut, Foil, and Butterfly are just some of the things that you will definitely remember in the movie "Ang Babaeng Allergic sa WiFi". It's a love story with a somehow fictional illness that can be possible. Specially now that we are in the age of technology, where different waves of frequencies are almost every where and almost everything is possible.

The movie "Ang Babaeng Allergic sa WiFi" is a fictional love story that will give viewers a second thought about life and how people threat everyone around them. It is a love story that will let you learn things about love. Below are love phrases/ quotes that best suits for this story.
  • Love at first sight is true.
  • Love is blind, sometimes.
  • Loving unconditionally.
  • Your happiness is my happiness.
  • Love is hard work.
  • It's now what you feel but it's how you feel.

What I like also in this film is how they incorporated values, tradition and cultures of the past that is fading away because of the advancement in technology. The movie pays homage to those things for the appreciation of the current generation. Some of them are:
  • Teleponong lata (a DIY telephone toy using cans and cord), this is one of the toys played by the older generations when they were still kids.
  • Patintero were slightly introduced as well. It is a game with two teams competing to cross on bounding box.
  • Panliligaw (courting) were also recognized in the film since it is a love story. It was one of the lines of Boots Anson-Roa where she describes how courtship is hard during their time.
  • Snail Mail, with today's speed of communication it seems that snail mail has been setting aside and becoming less valuable but on this movie and since the character, Norma isn't allowed to be near any devices that emits signal this means of communications is just right for her.
  • Old devices like typewriter, cassette tape, tape recorder, and phonographs were introduced and value were explained.

Overall the movie does not only entertain viewers with the love story of the main characters Norma, Leo, and Aries but also gives information some of our diminishing values and culture.

It is another love story that is highly recommended for everyone not only to feel love but to appreciate the value of things around us.

The movie stars Sue Ramirez, Markus Peterson, Jameson Blake and is directed by award winning director Jun Robles Lana.

“What interested me most about the idea, when I came across a 2009 news report about a British man who was allergic to Wi-Fi, is the opportunity to explore the underlying sadness and emptiness of modern relationships,” shares Director Jun Robles Lana.

“Nowadays, with the advances of technology, no matter where we go, it’s so easy to get in touch with our loved ones. But a lot of our correspondence has also been reduced to emojis and likes and superficial interactions online. What happens if the technology that’s supposed to connect you to the whole world suddenly isolates you literally and takes away your freedom and the life you once lived and knew?”

“Ang Babaeng Allergic sa WiFi” is Cignal Entertainment’s first venture into full length feature film production and is one of the eight feature films chosen by the Film Development Council of the Philippines for the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino 2018 happening in August.

Firsts and Highlights on President Rodrigo Roa Duterte's 3rd State of the Nation Address

7/23/2018 07:15:00 PM

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s delivered his 3rd State of the Nation Address (SONA) at the Batasang Pambansa and made a historical mark. Literally the 3rd SONA broke the tradition. Check out below what are the firsts on this SONA and the highlights of President Duterte’s speech.

  • This is the first time that the SONA didn't start exactly at 4:00 PM.
  • This is the first time that the before the start of the SONA there’s a sudden change of leadership in the house of congress.
  • This is the first time that President Duterte read his speech without any unnecessary words.
  • This is the first time that the SONA speech took only less than an hour.
  • This is the first time that President Duterte’s SONA didn't put highlights on the achievements but on what to be done.

With so many firsts it is only right that today’s SONA would be recognized and made a mark in the history of SONAs. As to the highlights of President Duterte’s speech we’re sharing what we can grasp from it, read it below and share what you think of it.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte started his speech with

About 2 years ago, I solemnly took my oath as a worker of the national gov’t. I was inspired to institute real changes for the greater good of the Filipino people.

  • War from illegal drugs is far from over and will not be sidelined, instead, it will be as relentless and chilling.
  • Concerns more on human lives and not human rights. “Illegal drugs wasted away lives, dysfunctionalized families and ruined relationship.”
  • Corruption must stop to improve delivery of services. He warned government agencies to stop red tape. Directing government agencies in implementing the Ease of Doing Business Act.
  • He mentioned that he will sign (Bangsamoro Organic Law) and ratify the law. He asks for 48 hours.
  • He hailed the successful hosting of the ASEAN anniversary and summit that happened last November.
  • The relationship with China has led to an unprecedented level of cooperation. The shared intelligence with China led to the discovery of clandestine shabu laboratories.
  • He admired our Filipino migrant workers for their selflessness and courage in enduring hardships of living away.
  • Mentioned about the fight against ‘endo’ which has resulted to regularization of more than 300,000 workers.
  • He mentioned the promise to restore environmental integrity of Boracay. He clearly said that “It has sadly become a representation of government’s negligence, including mine.”
  • Another highlight is the protection of the environment which discussed the open pit mining.
  • The immediate passing of the Congress for the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion or the TRAIN law. “You have made funds available to build better roads, bridges and improved health and education.”
  • The economic sabotage of which he warned the rice cartels to stop messing with the people.
  • The passage of the universal healthcare bill.
  • He recognized the people behind the drafting of the new Constitution (Federal Government).

What can you say about President Rodrigo Roa Duterte's SONA?

What Do You Think of Bela Padilla's FHM Shoot?

7/22/2018 12:39:00 AM

A big white dot on a black canvas! This is what we have in mind about the photo shoot of Bela Padilla for FHM. I'm not a renowned artist or blogger but having seen the behind the scene of the photo shoot makes me think twice. Is it just me or there's something about that photo shoot.

Like I mentioned at the first line I see the concept of who ever conceptualize the idea as a big white dot on a black canvas. Am I just being too sensitive or just being rational. We're in an era where negativism can crawl out in each in everyone of us, thus, giving us the impression of having second thoughts about how we look. It's a color issue for me.
I didn't mean to raise the issue about skin color but in the concept of FHM, this is what I see. In fairness with the other ladies in the photo shoot, they are all beautiful. The only thing that troubles me is why there's a need to have a different skin color put up together just to highlight a much radiant or lighter skin. It seems like subliminally saying that I stand above the others.

So this is just my thoughts and my idea about this FHM photo shoot with Bela Padilla. Are you thinking also the same thing? Share your thoughts here if you are.

BARANGAY 143, The First Filipino Anime Series to Air in GMA 7

7/21/2018 08:44:00 AM

In my opinion this is one of the sports that we, Filipinos love, basketball. No one can stop Filipino kids in playing basketball. Even to a small clear area that is enough to dribble around can be court to play at for the kids. It's not about the rules of area but it is about the play itself, the intensity of playing with the other opponent.

Just recently, a group of four companies joined together to release an upcoming TV Series that is tagged as the "First Pinoy Anime Series". Teamed up together, Jyotirmoy Saha, CEO of August Media Holdings; Jackeline Chua, Managing Director and Co-Founder of Synergy88 Entertainment Media Inc., Takahiro Kishimoto, Head of Animation, International Business Department of TV Asahi, and Joey Abacan, Head of Acquisition, GMA Network and made announcement of the airing on GMA 7 of "Barangay 143" Anime series.

Barangay 143 – as the series is known is the first-ever Filipino Anime series. Co-produced between Synergy88, TV Asahi (Japan) and August Media Holdings (Singapore), Barangay 143 will feature a glittering celebrity cast including Cherie Gil, Alice Dixon and John Arcilla and millennial heartthrobs, Julie Anne San Jose, Kelley Day, Migo Adacer, and Ruru Madrid.

Barangay 143 is a feel-good coming of age story of a young Korean boy whose search for his father brings him to the Philippines. Lost and desperate for answers, is here in this foreign land that he finds an unlikely family in a team of misfits whose only ambition is to bring glory to their hometown. It's a story about love and family set against the action-packed world of street basketball, where the stakes are always high and life the biggest game you can win.

“Philippines has a vibrant TV and film industry with a rich culture of storytelling. Right from the onset we were determined develop the show right here so that it captures the essence of life in Manila. I am immensely proud of what we have finally created in Barangay 143”, said Jyotirmoy Saha, CEO, August Media Holdings.

Fans can enjoy Barangay 143 not just as a TV Series but digitally, in print and as consumer products. The Barangay 143 Street League mobile game is already available on the Google Play Store for Android and the iOS App Store. The narrative story within the mobile game leads to the suspense and drama that drives the story for the upcoming TV Series.

“Within the series, the comic strip and even the game we have tried to capture the real-life experiences of the Philippines through the art and the sounds.,” said Jackeline Chua, Managing Director and Co-Founder of Synergy88 Digital. “With Barangay 143 Street League we also created a unique experience that helps players compete with friends in cyberspace but get their wins rewarded in the real world.”

Set against the backdrop of gritty Tondo, the series also features original music from a whole host of celebrity Filipino singers and musicians. The series is painstakingly designed and produced here in Manila with the help crew from across Japan, South Korea, USA, Malaysia and Singapore.
“When we first came across Barangay 143 during its development phase, it seemed like a natural choice for us to be a part of. We hope that Japanese creativity will bring light into the Filipino story and characters to life.”, said Takahiro Kishimoto, Head of Animation at International Business Department of TV Asahi.
Leading up to the start of the broadcast, fans will be treated to a series on Barangay 143 themed concerts featuring music stars like Gloc-9, Shanti Dope, Julie Ann San Jose and more. We expect to also treat our audiences with many other “GMA has always been known to support anything that champions Filipino talent and promotes our culture. We are immensely proud to be the network carrying the first Filipino anime drama series,” said Joey Abacan, First Vice President, Program Management at GMA.

Executive Producers of the TV Series have mentioned that they are committed to develop the property further and are already contemplating more content surrounding Barangay 143 the brand.
