Heavy Rains or Not Pairs Run Towards a Healthy Lifestyle at the 11th Fit & Run Wellness Buddy Run

7:05:00 PM

Perhaps all are expecting a sunny day but unfortunately nature has its own way of blessing everyone. So heavy rains or light, runners at the 11th Fit & Fun Wellness Buddy Run kicked their way to the tracks of Camp Aguinaldo parade grounds Quezon City with different types of running pairs—parents and kids, siblings, lolos and their apos, loved ones, officemates, best friends, even neighbors—competing in the 5K and 10K races. This time everyone enjoyed the run even when it is raining. It's really cool to run under the rain.

“We are happy to provide an opportunity for people to start their wellness journey in a fun and one-of-a-kind event with their partners. After all, getting fit and choosing the healthier lifestyle is more worthwhile when shared with a buddy,” said Jody Gadia, Robinsons Supermarket general manager.

Presented by Robinsons Supermarket, the 11th Fit & Fun Wellness Buddy Run 5K race offered a top prize of a trip for 2 to Siargao with 3 days/2 nights hotel accommodation while 2nd and 3rd placers get Php8,000 worth of Robinsons gift certificates. For 10K race podium finishers, the top prize includes a trip for 2 to Hong Kong with 3 days/2 nights hotel accommodation while 2nd and 3rd placers get Php15,000 worth of Robinsons gift certificates. All of these are indeed great prizes but of course there are certain events that are uncontrollable.

After crossing the finish line with their buddies and celebrating fitness in a fun and exciting way, most of the participants also enjoyed exciting activity booths and took home big grocery loot bags that have been the trademark of the Fit & Fun Wellness Buddy Run through the years.
The loot bags contained lots of freebies from Nestle, Johnson & Johnson, Wyeth Nutrition, Abbott Nutrition, Fonterra and Unilab.

The fun run is in line with Robinsons Supermarket’s wellness commitment to continuously encourage more people to choose and live healthier lifestyles. Robinsons Supermarket's 10th Fit & Fun Wellness Buddy Run, For the Whole Family

10:45:00 PM

One of the best exercise is running and the better way to do this is with a friend or loved one. This brings more fun and exciting to achieve a healthy lifestyle. It's always best to have someone to remind or push you to your goal. Just like what Robinsons Supermarket did with their annual Fit & Fun Wellness Buddy Run. They made sure that participants will have a running partner, it won't be called Buddy Run if only one.

For how many years, we've always been one of the avid participants of this running event and this year is a little bit different because we were joined by our adorable little ones. Yes, Kwento Ni Toto (Daddy Marco) and Mommy's Mag Life (Mommy Angelyn) were joined by the Kids On The Go (Maki and Gelo). But of course the little ones is still on their starting point so we just phased our run or rather walk-run.

For this year there were plenty of participants who joined. This is Robinsons Supermarket's 10th Fit & Fun Wellness Buddy Run which happened at the Parade Grounds of Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City. To make sure that we will be on this event we woke up really early.

In line with Robinsons Supermarket’s wellness campaign to continuously encourage more people to choose and live healthier lifestyles, the Fit & Fun Wellness Buddy Run gave everyone an opportunity to partner with friends and family, and run together towards the finish line.

“Through the years, the Fit & Fun Buddy Run has been a much-anticipated event for a lot of people. It’s our kick-off as we celebrate with the nation, Wellness and Nutrition month. It provides a fun gateway activity for fitness newbies who are just about to start their wellness journey and loyal runners,” said general manager of Robinsons Supermarket, Mr. Jody Gadia.

This year's run were Hosted by volleyball superstar and TV personality, Gretchen Ho, the event also featured exciting booths with lots of freebies from Nestle Philippines, Johnson & Johnson, Fonterra, Unilab and Wyeth Nutrition, Unilever, International Pharmaceuticals Incorporated (IPI), Procter & Gamble, Abbott Nutrition, Getz Bros, Ecossential, Del Monte, Foodsphere Inc., and Philusa.

Coaches Jim and Toni Saret prepped-up the runners with a short work-out and invited them to register on-site for the Fit Filipino 1 Million Pounds National Weight Loss Challenge, the biggest on-ground and online wellness program in the country which aims to encourage everyone to pledge and lose weight.

The Fun Run is just one of the programs this July. Robinsons Supermarket is also giving away Healthy You snack platters for a minimum purchase of Php 3,000 inclusive of Php 500 worth of participating items of the Wellness Festival.

Aside from the fun that each buddies gained while running together, there were also treated with some goodies after the run but of course buddies should finish together in order to have it completed.

There were also other booths that participants can visit and win some prizes.

Well we are hoping to join again next year and hopefully we would able to achieve our goals next year.  Thank you so much Robinsons Supermarket!

Robinsons Supermarket's commitment to wellness campaign extends to providing Filipinos with delicious and healthy food options and alternatives. Check out their Facebook page www.facebook.com/RobinsonsSupermarketOfficial or website www.robinsons-supermarket.com.ph to see what's good for you.

Running Man: Serious Run, Serious Fun

6:14:00 AM

A few weeks ago I've received an invite with the term Running Man which reminds me of the movie in the 80's entitled Running Man.  I got curious about it so I said yes to the event that I'll be there.  Unfortunately, I was a bit preoccupied in my work that I wasn't able to ask for a leave that day.  So, I requested one of my correspondent to be there in behalf of me.

So, she was there and met with the organizers and other bloggers.  Here's what it is all about and what it is all about.

Are you the Running Man?  Futuretainment Inc. redefines running at Venice Piazza Mckinley Hill, Bonifacio Global City Taguig City on November 17, 2012.  The event will be a sunset run that will start at 4PM and will continue until the evening.  Imagine traversing the rolling terrain of Mckinley Hill then hurdling a thrilling 6 stage obstacle course located in a dedicated lot within Mckinley Hill and designed by only the most exacting adventure enthusiasts. The Peak Attack is sure to give you a kick-start, quite literally, as you scale a mound of earth.  If it isn't a strong grip, leg strength should get you to the next challenge.

Next you have to lift yourself enough to grab the Monkey Bars, all the while keeping a firm hold to keep you from falling into muddy water.  This should take you back to your childhood days at the playground, though the feat is far more than child's play.  If you survive the Monkey Bars, you'll feel the thrill to the finish drawing closer at the Tunnel Crawl.  Conquer your claustrophobia and try to get ahead of the game.  The fun trail continues to the Wall Balance, where your balance will be put to the test as you'll find yourself negotiating a perilous edge, towards the Log Hurdles.  Simulating military boot camp, this obstacle should reveal how much time you've spent working on your legs at the gym, more than just biceps and chest.  Your agility and flexibility are also put to the test.  For the finale, the Net Crawl shall get you inching your way through, between an unwieldy net.

Runners will be grouped in waves to ensure that everyone will be able to comfortably experience the obstacles.  All participants who finish the race receive finisher's medals, but only the three fastest per wave will receive a gold medal.  Your race bib also entitles you to raffle prizes, with one lucky winner receiving the GRAND PRIZE of fifty thousand pesos (Php50,000.00) cash.  And as the event draws to its peak compliment it with the perfect music for that, with the console concoctions of Deuce Manila's Dj's Patty Tiu and Kat De Jesus and the mash up mixes of DJ Funk Avy.

Be 13 years old at least to register at www.futuretainmentinc.com, and www.runnersrunner.com, from now until November 10.  Secure a medical clearance from your doctor if you have serious medical condition, and submit a proof of parental consent if you are below 18 years old upon registration.  Then you can run until you've had the most fun of all on November 17, 2012.

For more information, log on to www.futuretainmentinc.com or visit Chris Sports SM North, SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia, Glorietta, Bonifacio high Street, and Festival Mall in Alabang for a registration form.  Like our Official FB Page www.facebook.com/runningmanthepartyrun, and get FREE, week to week training from our race director, Reijo del Prado.  Prepare to get fit, and have the best time yet!

KMD Challenge Copenhagen

1:00:00 PM

Press Release
Last year's top-4 in the mens' race will once again be on the startline to fight for the win at KMD Challenge Copenhagen - the biggest iron distance race in Northern Europe and second largest in the Challenge Family.

KMD Challenge Copenhagen has developed into the biggest annual sports event in Denmark and one of the biggest iron distance events in the World. The 2,000 athletes, the over 150,000 spectators and the beautiful course in the heart of a major European capital make this a giant event.

Almost sold out for iron distance event - triathlon party 3rd year in a row KMD Challenge Copenhagen only has a few slots left this year and 2,000 athletes will start the race from the lagune with a 3,8 km swim at Amager Beach Park, head through Copenhagen and north at open roads and rolling hills on the two looped 180 km bike course before heading out on the marathon course by the Copenhagen habour front where 150,000 spectators will create a true triathlon party.

KMD Challenge Copenhagen has developed into the biggest annual sports event in Denmark and one of the biggest iron distance events in the World. The 2,000 athletes, the over 150,000 spectators and the beautiful course in the heart of a major European capital makes this a giant event.

"Iron distance triathlon is very special and has an energy and a soul like no other sports. The combination of some of the fittest athletes in the World competing alongside 'ordinary' people makes iron distance triathlon a tale of big performances and personal victories and is a place for the big emotions and life changing experiences. When all the emotions, the suffering, the tears and the personal fights are unveiled at the finish line is a unique place to be and magic appears again and again," Thomas Veje Olsen says.

Fast, Danish runners wants to top the podium The men's race have top-4 from last year back fighting it out for the win in the Copenhagen streets. Only two minutes separated all four men last year but is was Aussie Tim Berkel who snathed his second consecutive win only 35 seconds in front of Dane Jimmy Johnsen. The two had battled out a nerve wrecking final run shoulder to shoulder, testing each others limits late in the run before Berkel broke away on the final few kilometers to take the win. Jimmy Johnsen was second and took home the Danish Championship title while Croat Dejan Patrcevic took 3rd just in front of the fast runner, Mads Vittrup-Pedersen who clocked a race best marathon of 2:38:59.

The Danish favorites is once again Johnsen and Vittrup-Pedersen with Berkel and Patrcevic are among the international favorites along with the runner up from 2010 Keegan Williams and Joseph Spindler. Can Berkel three peat or will on of the Danes finally be able to take top honor in the biggest race in Denmark? Both Johnsen and Vittrup-Pedersen are fast on the bike and can run the marathon in the low and mid 2:40'ies. With Vittrup-Pedersen's 2:38:59 is a course record Johnsen managed a 2:44:01 last year.

In the women's race two-time champ Rebekah Keat will not defend her title. The pre race favorites must be: Diana Riesler and Edith Niederfriniger.

The race climaxes in front of the Danish Parliament Building at around 3pm Sunday August 12.

Fun Triathlons are very popular The 'Fun Triathlon' KMD 4:18:4 has been organized since 2010 for those who wanted to try out a short distance and it was an immediate success. This year more than 3.000 will try the sport of triathlon in KMD 4:18:4 in the days leading up to the iron distance race.

"Danes have really embraced the sport of triathlon the last three years. Last year 2,000 Danes tried triathlon in KMD 4:18:4 and we expect 3,000 this year. A 50 % increase in participants really show how popular triathlon has become and with 5,000 athletes competing in the triathlon events this setup is one of the biggest in the World," Race Director Thomas Veje Olsen says.

Triathlon in Denmark this August: - August 12th: Iron distance race KMD Challenge Copenhagen (3,8 km swim, 180 km bike and 42,2 km run). - August 9th and 10th: 'Fun Triathlon KMD 4:18:4 (400 meter swim, 18 km bike and 4 km run).

Run For the Pasig River 2012 Invades QC

11:29:00 PM

Event covered by Jefferson Montas aka Justin.

The ABS-CBN Foundation's Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig (KBPIP) will be staging it s fourth advocacy run to clamor for cleaner rivers and esteros in Metro Manila via "09,30.2012 Run for the Pasig River" to be held in Quezon City on September 30, 2012.

After the success of last year's 11.20.2011 Run for the Pasig River, KBPIP is again urging groups and individuals to join the eco foot-race, which will help raise awareness and funds for the rehabilitation of the waterways of Quezon City-San Juan-Mandaluyong-Makati.

There will be three major event categories for the advocacy run: the 15K Ride & Roll with 4:00 a.m. gunstart; the 15K Commonwealth Challenge Run with 4:10 a.m. gunstart; and the 5K Morning Madness Run with 6:00 a.m. gunstart.  This time, there will be one starting line in the Quezon City Memorial Circle (QCMC) going straight to Commonwealth Avenue then back again to QCMC for the finish.

ABS-CBN Foundation's Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig has a track-record of organizing three successful runs for the Pasig River.  The 2009 Philippine International Marathon: A Run for the Pasig River, which had an estimated 23,000 participants, helped fund the inital phase of rehabilitation of Estero de Paco, a 2.9-kilometer tributary of the Pasig River in Manila.

The historic 10.10.10 Run for the Pasig River, meanwhile, broke the Guinness World Record for the "most participants in a racing event" with 116,087 runners.  It helped rehabilitate the second phase of the Estero de Paco clean-up.

Last year's 11.20.2011 Run for the Pasig River was the largest foot race joined by 86,547 runners, are currently being used to rehabilitate Estero de San Miguel and foru other esteros behind the Malacanang Palace.

KBPIP's seven-year rehabilitation program involves cleaning up all the esteros that drain into the Pasig River in order to thoroughly clean it.  To date, the project has resettled 1,216 families to Calauan, Laguna, introduced remediation technologies for water quality improvement, trained community volunteers for the River Warriors program and shared sound waste management practices with communities.

The 10.10.10 Run for the Pasig River won a Bronze anvil and an Award of Excellence at the 45th Anvil Awards given by the Public Relations Society of the Philippines, while the Estero de Paco clean-up earned an Award of Merit from the 2012 Philippine Quill Awards given by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Philippines.

Registration for the 09.30.2012 Run for the Pasig River opened on July 16, 2012 in SM North EDSA, 2nd Floor Cinema C Lobby (near IMAX Theater) and on July 20 in SM Megamall, Lower Ground Level, Building A (near The Event Center and Food Court) and SM Mall of Asia, Ground Floor Main Mall (near Music hall and SM Bowling Center).  Aside from the registration, there will also be merchandise available in the booths, in which part of the proceeds will also go to river rehab.  For updates on this advocacy run, visit www.runforthepasigriver.com.

All Fun at Run United 2

9:49:00 PM

I never thought that running will be this popular to many people, perhaps that's because they have made running more fun, especially in the Philippines. When I was still a bachelor, running has been one of my favorite activity. It makes me more energize and always on the go. Since I work inside the Clark Special Economic Zone there's nothing else to do but run. I do my run in the morning and in the afternoon. It was great gaining more grounds every time I run. It's like completing a level in a video game.

After marriage, my run has been reduced due to some activities that needs attention but I still make sure to have time to run or a brisk walk to keep me active. It was further reduced when my favorite running shoes were already worn out. It was its time to rest.

I know companies that are organizing fun runs but never knew that more and more will initiate this activity. Some do fun runs in their communities and others in known places. Last year it was my first time to join and experience fun run. It was an out of town run which I came unprepared but thankfully it went out well. Then the rest of the story is history. I'm running again!

Unilab Active Health and RunRio Inc. organized the Run United 2 this coming June 17 and is off to break the half-marathon category record set during Run United 1 earlier inI March. As registration closed over the weekend for the 21K category, the 5,000 mark has already been breached. It was expected to have over 14,000 registrants in all categories for the much-awaited run race.

According to Alex Panlilio, Head of Unilab Active Health “This shows the matuirty of Filipino runners, there are still many running enthusiasts who run with friends and families for fun. But long-distnace runners are keeping pace in terms of the turnout at Run United races.

RunRio President, Rio dela Cruz disclosed that “Run United 2 is slated to be the biggest 21km race in the Philippines. At Run United 1 earlier this, there were 4,000 21K runners. We are just getting bigger every year.” Also it was said that their target is 5,000 slots for the half-marathon or 21k category but they will accommodate some more runners if necessary.

The Run United 2 categories, namely the 500m dash for kids, 3k, 5k, and 10k will start and finish at the SM Mall of Asia except for the 21k which will start at BGC and will finish at SM Mall of Asia.

In-store registrants of Run United 2 will instantly received their singlets. The race kits will be claimed at the first ever Run United Expo which is a new enhancement to the Run United experience, patterned after well known international races. The expo will let runners experience the latest trends in the running industry and they can also avail of huge discounts from the exhibitors. A special line of Run United memorabilia apparel will also be available for Run United enthusiasts.  The Run United 2 Race Expo will be held from June 12 to June 16 at Block 51, 9th Ave. Corner 26th Street, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City. Claimants should bring their registration receipt or confirmation email when claiming their race kits. The specific schedule of race kit distribution at the race expo are as follows: June 12 to 13/2-8PM/Priority Lane: 21K/Regular lane: all other categories; June 14 /11-8pm/Priority 10K; June 15/11-8pm/Priority 5K; and June 16/11-8pm/Priority: 500m dash, 3K & 5K.

There will be some new concepts and services that will be introduce for the participants and their families at Run United 2 including the improved Active Health Expo with more areas to explore and services to avail. Regular activities such as photo booth, awards program, and cheer-dance competition will still be there.  The Active Health Expo will feature the following areas:

  • Active Kids Zone: a daycare center where activities such as puppet shows, art classes, among others await the runners’ children.
  • Runners’ Lounge Zone: after the race, runners can reward themselves here where they can try the ice cooling stations, free stretching services of physical therapists, among others for faster recovery.
  • i-Connect Zone: where runners can share the Run United experience in social networking sites with free wi-fi connection in digital stations.
  • Health, Sports and Leisure Zone: where runners can participate in activities and challenges that promote an active and healthy lifestyle. Participants also get a chance to win prizes.
  • Food Zone: Food treats galore where runners can load up on protein, carbo and health drinks to recover fast and stay healthy.
All of the Run United 2 finishers for the categories 500m, 3K, 5K and 10K categories will receive an Active Health sling bag, drinks, and race analysis. 21K runners will receive a finisher’s medal, finisher’s shirt, Active Health sling bag, drinks, and race analysis.

Real LIFE Foundation: Putting the Fun Back In Run

1:40:00 PM
Many people are now getting into running, not just into loosing weight and getting fit but also getting the fun out of it. Running alone does not really give you motivation and the boost to go run for more and finish what is intended to finish.

I have been running on my own during my bachelor days but I never had a chance to join any running event. My supposedly 1st time to join the running event was hindered by the typhoon before. Maybe it meant to happen.

My recent run was unprepared. Very much unprepared because I run with only a Sandugo Sandals and take note I run 5K (watch out for the upcoming post about BonPen Festival). It was really an unusual experience. I was able to finish the run in 35 minutes which is not bad for a runner on sandals.

On November 12, 2011 I will be joining the Race for LIFE 2011 which was organized by Real Life Foundation to support their educational advocacy. I just hope and pray that I will be able to wake up early and be there at the venue ahead of time.

There will be a 3K, 5K and 10K race and also an “Amazing Race” Big and Small team category wherein one adult and one chile (5-10 years old) will run, skip, hop and much more to the finish line. If you have not registered yet, it is still available at the following
  • Chris Sports (SM Megamall)
  • Nike Park (Bonifacio High Street branch), and
  • G/F Bookstore Every Nation Bldg., 32nd St. cor. University Pkwy, Bonifacio Global City

Here are some important details to take note:
  • Starting point: Grounds in front of Every Nation Building (32nd St. cor. University Pkwy, Bonifacio Global City).
  • 10km race kicks off at 6 AM
  • 5km, 3km, and Amazing Race “Big & Small” races start from 6:15 AM onwards
