As Korean pop sensation Jay Park conquered Manila with his moves, MCA Music’s OPM artists—Asia’s Acoustic Sweetheart Sabrina and YouTube Sensations Krissy & Ericka, also took center stage as they opened for him during his shows. Sabrina impressed the audience with songs from her current album “I Love Acoustic 4” at Jay Park’s shows at Eastwood Mall Open Park last May 4 and Lucky Chinatown Mall last May 6. Sister Krissy and Ericka meanwhile made an impact with their 3 song acoustic set last May 5 at the Venice Piazza at McKinley Hill. Jay Park was so delighted with their performance that he had to approach Krissy & Ericka to congratulate them before going up the stage to perform his own songs. Their single “12:51” from the album of the same title still rules the charts of radio stations from Luzon to Mindanao as well as music channels in the country. Krissy & Ericka is set to release their new single “In Your Arms”, another original song they wrote.

"The Reunion: An Eraserheads Tribute Album" is available on record bars nationwide on Wednesday (May 9).

After making their major label debut album “Shinji Ilabas Mo Na Ang Helicopter” which produced the hit singles “Ang Pusa Mo”, “FX” and “Simulan Mo Na”, alternative band Pedicab returns with a new EP entitled “Kaya Mo Mag-Sando?”

The EP, which is currently the #1 most downloaded album at MyMusicStore.com.ph (the Philippines’ version of iTunes), features 6 brand new tracks including the carrier single “Otomatik”. Other tracks in the EP are: “Kaya Mo Mag-Sando?”, “Ang Apoy”, “La Liga Filipina”, “Insekto” and “The Shot”.

Kamikazee, with their signature onstage antics and witty songs, has established itself to be one of the hottest rock bands of this generation, yielding numerous hits like "Narda," "Tsinelas," "Chicksilog," "First Day High," among others. For their fourth album "Romantico," the rock band goes extremely personal with songs that re-tell their love experiences.

"What makes this album special is that all the songs here are expression of our experiences and the stories of people around us," says drummer Allan “Bords” Burdeos. "It is an album very close to us as these songs represent parts of who we are now."

Frontman Jay Contreras adds, “Para siyang kuwento ng mga taong, umibig, umiibig, iniwan, nasaktan, at umibig ulit.”


Kamikazee considers this album special because this is the first time that they had agreed on the album’s theme even before the collection of songs was written.

The band added that usually the songs come first before they think of an album concept, but for “Romantico,” it is clear to them that they want to tackle love as its central theme.

The album's first single "Halik" talks about love grown tired, expressed in Kamikazee’s signature sound.

When asked whose story that was, Bords quickly replied, "secret!"

As the MYX Music Awards concluded many music artist are very happy of the outcome.  Here's a simple round-up from MCA with artist who bag the awards.

Two of MCA Music’s major domestic artists went home victorious at the recent MYX Music Awards held recently at the Music Museum.


Rock band Chicosci’s new single “Unbelievable” was voted by a combination of MYX viewers and artists as “Favorite Remake”. The song is a cover of the EMF original which is included in the compilation album “90s Music Comes Alive” under MCA Music. Its music video was directed by Paolo Ruiz and Tower of Doom and was supported by Samsung Galaxy S Wifi 5.0. “Unbelievable” easily made it at MYX charts just days after its premiere last year. The band is currently finishing their new album under MCA Music.

“We are so thankful for those who voted four our music video which was quite different from what we usually do like doing a cover and shooting a video during one of our tours,” Miggy said.


Another winner was electronic-pop sensation Somedaydream who bagged the “Favorite MYX Celebirty VJ”. Since debuting at last year’s MYX Music Awards, so many good things came along for this talented Ateneo student which also led him to a MYX Celebrity VJ stint in June 2011. His album is still out under Mecca Music and MCA Music which includes the hit singles “Hey Daydreamer”, “Delivery Boys” and “Sing This Song”.

“I was just there last year to perform and now I won an award! It’s unbelievable and I’m so happy that MYX is always there to support,” Somedaydream said.

Since 2006, MYX, the number 1 music channel in the Philippines honors the biggest hitmakers in the Philippines via the MYX Music Awards.

In her few months in showbiz, Zia has already proven that she is more than just the daughter of King of Comedy Dolphy and Divine Diva Zsa Zsa Padilla’s daughter. She has recently been named as 2012 MYX Music Awards’ Favorite New Artist.

I felt that it would be very nice to have one of my mom’s songs on the album as a kind of tribute to her for all of the things she has done for me.”

Zia also covered Sheena Easton’s ‘So Much In Love’ and Michael Jackson’s ‘Smile’, dedicated to her comedian father Dolphy. “Aside from my mom, I would say that my dad’s taste in music really shaped mine. He influenced me to appreciate the classics—from standards to classical to world music and even oldies.”

Asia’s acoustic sweetheart Sabrina releases her follow-up single from her highly successful “I Love Acoustic 4” album—her version of the hit “Moves Like Jagger”.

This Maroon5 & Christina Aguilera single which became a staple song of 2011 will be infused with Sabrina’s own sweet acoustic flavor that listeners will love. When I first saw this fine beautiful lady in one of the TV shows in one of the known TV Network, she did capture my attention.  She has a very sweet and innocent look that will for sure mesmerize most of her listeners.  Though I haven't heard her sing live I'm she has a good voice to listen at and besides she's already been coined as the New OPM Sweetheart.

I would really love to attend if there's going to be a meet and greet with her.

With her sweet voice, amazing songwriting talent, pretty face, new teen singer Emmanuelle is poised to be OPM’s newest sweetheart. Her self-titled debut album, produced by Universal Records, is out to prove just that.

The young singer expressed excitement over the release of her debut album saying, “this is really a dream come true for me. It feels like I’ve been given this rare chance of introducing myself to everyone through my music.”

Emmanuelle wrote the album’s carrier single Happy, a catchy, feel good song that will line her up along the industry’s finest groundbreaking artists, along with Zia Quizon and Somedaydream.

She expresses gratitude to Universal Records for producing an album for a newbie like her, amidst the problems of the music industry.

“Emmanuelle is such a gifted artist,” says actor Sam Milby. “She really can do everything- sing, act, dance, and write good music. This will surely be a treat to music fans all over the country.”

Champion singer Erik Santos, on the other hand, compliments Emmanuelle’s voice saying how sweet, ear-friendly it is.


The album also features Manong Guard, a duet with OPM pop rock princess Yeng Constantino.

“Masaya talaga ako na nakasama ako sa album na ‘to,” admits Yeng. “I am extremely happy that Emmanuelle has been given this chance to record some songs that she wrote herself – dun sa aspect na yun, pareho kaming singer-songwriter.”

Aside from being a gifted singer and songwriter, Emmanuelle is also a promising guitar player.
