An interesting lead of performances and music as MYX ends 2019 with a bang featuring big names and fresh faces this December. Wrapping up the decade as the MYX Headliner is one of the most prominent artists of his generation—OPM rock icon Rico Blanco. The legendary singer-songwriter and Filipino Society of Composers, Artists and Publishers, Inc. (FILSCAP) president will be answering never-before-asked questions and revealing more about himself and his craft in different segments all throughout the month, which will surely inspire promising songwriters to persevere in making more meaningful music.

Also adding fun and joy this holiday season to the number one music channel in the Philippines is the well-loved tandem from “PBB Otso” FumiYam, composed of the “Konichi-Wonder Vlogger of Japan” Fumiya Sankai and Ultim8 Big Winner Yamyam Gucong, as they rise up to the task of being the MYX Celebrity VJs for the whole month of December.

In addition, the MYX Spotlight will center this month on sister songwriting duo Gibbs—composed of Alyssa (Chi) and Gabriella (Gabs) Gibbs. Their debut single “No Hearts,” a retro-inspired track about self-worth and moving on, was launched last September. The highly acclaimed all-new MYX Live! ends the year perfectly with a solid lineup that has something for everyone. Spreading the holiday cheer with his signature Christmas songs is the timeless Jose Mari Chan, with a special duet with Julie Anne San Jose, on Sunday (Dec. 8). Bringing in girl power are all-female pop rock band Rouge on Dec. 12, and the 48-member girl group MNL48 on Dec. 19. Finally, rocking the MYX Live! stage on Dec. 26 is one of the premiere Filipino heavy metal bands, Slapshock. Their performances will also be available on MYX’s YouTube channel “All Music MYX” three days prior to airing on TV.

Another show to watch out for this month is the M-Net Asian Music Awards (MAMA) 2019, which was held in Nagoya, Japan. Its replay will air on Dec. 8 (Sunday) starting at 1pm, while the replay with subtitles airs on Dec. 14 and 25 starting at 1pm also. OPM fans on the other hand might want to look forward to “The Best of 1MX Manila” on Dec. 21 (Monday), which features Darren Espanto, IV of Spades, Sandwich, KZ, Yeng Constantino, and more.

Sharing what's something to talk about in the music industry today, guess what? Dick Clark Productions and NBC announced that the legendary female rap trio Salt-N-Pepa will shoop onto the stage to perform several of their monster hits at the “2018 Billboard Music Awards!” Joining them for this one-of-a-kind special performance will be the highly celebrated female vocal group En Vogue. Salt-N-Pepa’s “2018 Billboard Music Awards” performance marks the 30th anniversary of them becoming the first female rappers to crack the Top 20 on Billboard Hot 100. The renowned group burst onto the hip- hop scene in 1987 with their debut Billboard chart hit "My Mike Sounds Nice," and then notched their first crossover pop smash with "Push It" the following year.

“Thirty years later, we’re still Pushing It all over the world and we’re still loved and celebrated by fans we grew up with as well as new fans,” said Salt-N-Pepa. “Looking back at all the barriers we’ve broken as women in this very male dominated genre of music, being the first two female rappers to break the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 is right up there as one of the best moments of our amazing career. We are blessed.”

Members Cheryl James (Salt), Sandra Denton (Pepa) and Deidra Roper (DJ Spinderella), with En Vogue, will join previously announced performers BTS, Camila Cabello, Kelly Clarkson, Ariana Grande, John Legend, Dua Lipa, Jennifer Lopez, Shawn Mendes and Christina Aguilera featuring Demi Lovato, on a night filled with music’s biggest names. It was also announced earlier this week that global superstar Janet Jackson will receive this year’s ICON Award and will take the stage for a highly anticipated performance of her greatest hits, marking her first performance on television in nine years.
Hosted by “The Voice” coach Kelly Clarkson, the “2018 Billboard Music Awards” will broadcast live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Monday, May 21 at 8 a.m. on Blue Ant Entertainment. The three-hour telecast will feature performances from this year’s hottest musical acts, unexpected collaborations and buzzworthy moments that celebrate 60 years of the Billboard Hot 100.

Two of MCA Music’s major domestic artists went home victorious at the recent MYX Music Awards held recently at the Music Museum.


Rock band Chicosci’s new single “Unbelievable” was voted by a combination of MYX viewers and artists as “Favorite Remake”. The song is a cover of the EMF original which is included in the compilation album “90s Music Comes Alive” under MCA Music. Its music video was directed by Paolo Ruiz and Tower of Doom and was supported by Samsung Galaxy S Wifi 5.0. “Unbelievable” easily made it at MYX charts just days after its premiere last year. The band is currently finishing their new album under MCA Music.

“We are so thankful for those who voted four our music video which was quite different from what we usually do like doing a cover and shooting a video during one of our tours,” Miggy said.


Another winner was electronic-pop sensation Somedaydream who bagged the “Favorite MYX Celebirty VJ”. Since debuting at last year’s MYX Music Awards, so many good things came along for this talented Ateneo student which also led him to a MYX Celebrity VJ stint in June 2011. His album is still out under Mecca Music and MCA Music which includes the hit singles “Hey Daydreamer”, “Delivery Boys” and “Sing This Song”.

“I was just there last year to perform and now I won an award! It’s unbelievable and I’m so happy that MYX is always there to support,” Somedaydream said.

Since 2006, MYX, the number 1 music channel in the Philippines honors the biggest hitmakers in the Philippines via the MYX Music Awards.

Universal Records dominated the 2012 MYX Music Awards with 23 nominations from 18 categories.

Parokya ni Edgar, enjoys seven nods for Favorite Music Video, Song (Pangarap Lang Kita), Artist, Group, Collaboration (One Hit Combo with Gloc9), and MYX Live Performance, plus Guest Appearance for JM De Guzman for Pangarap Lang Kita. Christian Bautista, on the other hand, earned five nominations (Favorite Artist, Male Artist, Remake for Love Moves In Mysterious Ways, Media Soundtrack for I Am Already King, and Guest Appearance for Alodia Gosiengfiao for All That’s Left), while Sam Concepcion got 3 (Favorite Male Artist, Remake for Forever Young, and Celebrity VJ).

Sponge Cola (Favorite Group, Mellow Video) and Kamikazee (Favorite Collaboration and Rock Video) have two nominations each.

JayR is nominated for Favorite Urban Video for Connection with Chelo and Q-York. Universal Records lords it over the Favorite K-Pop Video Category with 2NE1’s Lonely, Super Junior’s Mr. Simple, Big Bang’s Tonight.

Pop Rock Princess Yeng Constantino, a consistent honoree of the MYX Music Awards, is nominated once again at the said awards show this year.

Yeng, nominated as Favorite Artist and Female Artist, has established herself as one of the most prolific, talented young talents of her generation.

She recently staged her hit pre-Valentine’s Day concert Ok Lang Maging Single sa Valentine’s Day, which packed the Music Museum last week.

Yeng’s latest single Pag-Ibig, a song about unconditional love written by Yeng especially for the concert, was launched online and reached 1 million views on Youtube a few days after. It is still one of the top songs in the MYX Daily Top 10.

Yeng is being managed by Erickson Raymundo’s Cornerstone Talent Management Center.
