Soaring Beyond the Clamor: Halle's Debut Single "Angel" Shines

10:23:00 PM

Renowned global sensation, Halle, has taken the music scene by storm with the highly anticipated release of her inaugural single, "Angel." Crafted under the masterful guidance of Theron "NeffU" Feemster, an illustrious name in the realm of music production, songwriting, and composition, boasting accolades such as the prestigious GRAMMY® Award, the track unfurls an immersive auditory experience. A fusion of cinematic allure and a pulsating R&B rhythm, adorned with sweeping orchestral arrangements, envelops the listener. Amidst this symphonic tapestry, Halle's vocal prowess soars to unprecedented heights, her mellifluous tones harmonizing with the poignant lyrics that resonate: "Heaven knows your wings can weigh you down, but angels make a way somehow."

Basking in the aftermath of fervent discussions sparked by The Little Mermaid, Halle's "Angel" extends an introspective narrative. It becomes a manifestation of Halle's unwavering dedication to embolden and elevate the aspirations of young women across the globe. Amidst the ebb and flow of life's challenges, the song's lyrical refrain reinforces the message of resilience, painting a vivid canvas where even in adversity, we find ourselves cushioned by the embrace of clouds. In this musical revelation, Halle not only showcases her musical prowess but also offers a heartfelt testament to her vision of empowerment. Listen to the anthemic track HERE.

The track arrives with an exquisite official video directed by Wendy Morgan (Alicia Keys, Janelle Monae, Lous And The Yakuza), watch HERE. “Angel” made its global premiere on BET Soul, BET Her, MTV Live, MTVU, MTV Biggest Pop and across MTV’s global network of channels, as well as on the Paramount Times Square billboards.

“This song for me is so very special and near and dear to my heart,” says Halle. “With everything I’ve gone through the past 3-4 years, suddenly finding myself in this bubble of all these eyes and new opinions, it was easy for me to feel doubt in myself and who I was. This song for me was my climb out of those feelings, a mantra and promise to myself that the work I’m doing here on earth matters and that I matter. I wanted to be able to embrace and be proud of myself and who I am naturally through and through. I hope other brown and black girls and everyone in general feel embraced, respected, and inspired hearing the words of this song.”

Halle shines as a four-time GRAMMY® Award-nominated multiplatinum singer and songwriter, show-stopping performer, and dynamic actress across film and television. She initially captivated audiences as one-half of the acclaimed R&B duo Chloe x Halle alongside her sister Chloe Bailey. The pair delivered two fan favorite full-length albums, including The Kids Are Alright [2018] and Ungodly Hour [2020]. The latter bowed in the Top 20 of the Billboard 200 and Top 3 of the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart in addition to yielding the platinum single “Do It.” Along the way, they notably gathered four GRAMMY® Award nominations, including “Best New Artist.” Beyond magazine covers and television performances, they ignited the stage during the On The Run II Tour co-headlined by Beyoncé and Jay-Z. Simultaneously, Halle landed a recurring role on the hit Grown-Ish as Skylar “Sky” Forster before breathing new life into Disney’s 2023 live-action blockbuster reimagining of The Little Mermaid. Next up, Halle stars in the remake of The Color Purple in the classic role of Young Nettie Harris. Produced by Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, and Quincy Jones, it opens in theaters everywhere this fall.

P-Pop star Mona Gonzales shows global potential with debut single “Always Remember”

12:00:00 AM

While I was browsing my TikTok account, I just so happened to land on one of the accounts where I find it entertaining because according to what was mentioned in rap-song like delivery tells that she will have a debut release. Coincident or not I find an email invitation to her debut release. Unfortunately I wasn't able to attend because of a reason.

The female influencer, now star was Sony Music Entertainment and ShowBT Philippines Corp's latest P-Pop sensation with immense global potential, Mona Gonzales. It was indeed one event I feel sorry for not attending. Anyway, when I browsed her details on the net I was in awe because this girl is one of the anime theme song coverer that I liked. So, no wonder she has that immense global potential.

If you listen to her covers you'll definitely love her voice.

With more than 17 million followers on TikTok alone and an impressive portfolio of anime soundtracks that went viral, breakthrough artist Mona Gonzales ranks among the industry’s newest batch of megastar hopefuls.

The promising solo act marks her debut as a recording artist with “Always Remember,” an effervescent cut that champions the value of self-worth and preservation in an attempt to bravely face the world and conquer everything. Capturing the unabashedly colorful spirit of K-Pop and J-Pop with commanding confidence, Mona Gonzales aims to uplift listeners with her anthemic and captivating delivery—doing it like a seasoned pro.

“The way I personally describe it is something like a soft pop rock for me,” says the promising TikTok sensation turned P-Pop star. “The sound of electric guitar with a pop style beat is dominating through the whole song. The style is not really new, but the sound is unique in its own way. It’s a little different from the OPM that we’re used to. I think that makes it interesting.”

Produced by Oh Won Lee, an industry veteran who has helmed tracks by K-Pop icons Stray Kids, SHINee's Taemin, and Wanna One, and the country’s very own SB19, “Always Remember” is an inspirational track that pushes the envelope of modern pop production with breezy, summer hooks and a minimalist instrumentation. The end product is a mesmerizing take on P-Pop, one that is creatively boundless and flows with so much effortlessness.

As Mona Gonzales puts it, “Pinoy Pop Music doesn’t really have a certain and specific style and sound. Most of us new artists want to be unique. That’s true for me, but I want to add a new flavor and variety along with the existing Pinoy pop music right now. And with every Pinoy music artists, we will prove that P-POP can expand. And then people will talk about how the Pinoy pop music has evolved, its potential and where it can go.”

The release of the song comes with a vibrant music video that metaphorically follows Mona Gonzales’ journey as an artist with so much to explore and grow on. Shot in multiple locations that showcase the beautiful scenery of the Philippines, Mona Gonzales dances, sings, hops, and walks with the excitement of someone ready to navigate the world on her own terms.

Mona Gonzales’ “Always Remember” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment and ShowBT Philippines Corp. Watch the music video below.

Interesting, Ben&Ben teases fans with cryptic billboards across Metro Manila

11:07:00 AM

This is probably interesting. Cryptic billboards and posters around the Metro and its alluding to a new Ben&Ben release have recently appeared in strategic locations all over Metro Manila.

The material, which contains discarded film photos with texts exposing some personal thoughts, is said to be part of the lyrics of an upcoming Ben&Ben song to be released sometime next week.

A few days ago, the nine-piece Filipino collective tweeted what looks like a snippet of lyrics offering an intimate take on the painstaking process of letting go. Ben&Ben also dropped a performance video of “Stand By You,” featuring Indonesian superstar Pamungkas. The collaborative visuals, which were recorded earlier this month at SoundCheck Studio, have racked up more than 220,000 views as of press time.

Break down your walls with Valentina Ploy in her new single “Berlin”

6:36:00 AM

Valentina Ploy breaks down walls between herself and listeners in “Berlin”, her second single with Warner Music Asia. The track will drop across all digital streaming platforms at midnight of 9 June 2022.

Coming back with yet another upbeat tune, Valentina Ploy has a way with radiating her sunshine personality even when singing to a lyrically sad song. We see people build walls as a coping mechanism while they are in relationships. As the track title suggests, ”Berlin” expresses the frustration of being with someone who puts up walls as high as The Berlin Wall. Co-written with Richard Craker, the upbeat pop tune takes listeners on a relatable journey in trying to break down and cross these walls built up by the person that they love.

“Berlin” will be accompanied by an entertaining music video starring Valentina Ploy herself, and renowned Thai actor, Benjamin Joseph Varney. Brace yourself for an unseen side to Valentina Ploy, as she proves to be a multi-dimensional artist, and shows her relatable quirky side to fans in this visual feast. Fans can also anticipate yet another endearing dance routine in the music video as Valentina Ploy encourages everyone to step out of their comfort zone and embrace every part of themselves.

Warner Music Asia announced on 21 April 2022 that it has formed a strategic alliance with Thailand’s premier independent record company What the Duck by signing Valentina Ploy, one of its most accomplished singer-songwriters.

This deal will see Warner Music Asia add the established Bangkok-based star to its roster of prominent singers, and will serve to support the What the Duck label in its work to elevate Valentina’s career to new heights. Warner Music will be harnessing the support of Warner Music Thailand to strengthen her domestic fan base, and utilizing the Group’s regional network to introduce her work to music lovers throughout Asia and beyond.

Just Music Night, A Soothing Sound on a Friday Night

11:15:00 PM

After more than two years, it was my first Friday night experience again. It feels like the first time I spent a fun Friday night listening to a band. It sure brings back memories of my younger years in this JUST MUSIC NIGHT, a night filled with beats and emotions where TJ Monterde released his latest single, "Walong Bilyon," together with the other singer-songwriters, Kenji, Patrick Quirros, and NKD.

Just Music is a sub-label of CS Music that caters to different talented singer-songwriters. And these four performers are just a few of the many talents of Just Music.

If you're one of those fans, who enjoy hearing different kinds of masterpieces, especially those with full of emotions and sincerity. The releases from Just Music are what will soothe your ears, and mine too.

Fans, friends, and relatives of these singer-songwriters are present during the event, showing their love and support to their favorite artists. Imagine seeing them perform face to face and live, put the entire crowd into cheer and roar.

Among the four performers, I and other bloggers got a chance to hear three of them sing and present their latest release. Two of them were interviewed. So, better catch the interview on my Youtube. And ironically, Kenji and TJ's releases are somewhat opposite or ying and yang. For Kenji, his songs are more of heart aches like the Liham, while TJ Monterde's "Walong Bilyon" is about his unending appreciation of the impossibility that came true, his love for his wife, KZ Tandingan.

Well, the night ends well with a smile on my face and the rhythm on my ear. I just hope that it is the start of more concerts and performances of different artists in the industry.

To know more about the latest releases, catch the news on CornerStone Music and Just Music's FB pages.

Jarlo Bâse Made a Major Label Debut Release of a soulful, laid-back track “Kalapati”

9:39:00 PM

Filipino singer-songwriter Jarlo Bâse is ready to carve his own lane in the music industry with the release of “Kalapati,” his first official single under Sony Music Philippines.

Recorded at Sonic State Audio, “Kalapati” doesn’t sound like a total diversion from his previous releases, but it has a more pristine quality to it as far as production is concerned. The laid-back tune finds the promising newcomer embracing a lighthearted but soulful direction while remaining adept in making accessible R&B/pop music that yields ecstatic returns.

Lyrically, the song deals about “loving someone for reasons that actually matter,” and as Jarlo Bâse puts it, “accepting them for who they are now, not for who they were, and definitely not for who we want them to be someday.” With Jarlo Bâse’s signature smoothness adding an element of a much-needed chill, “Kalapati” makes for an exhilarating listening experience: a bop that is ready to redefine romance in an exciting, youthful way.

While the song was initially conceived four years ago, it was only in 2021 when Jarlo Bâse was able to record the track in a professional studio. “I had to be patient,” the multi-talented artist reveals. “Waiting for the availability of studio was the most challenging part for me. It was all about timing, and making sure I was ready when an opportunity would arise. If my memory serves me right, I finished the song around four years ago. Most of what we did was re-record the different stems of the track, and polish what needed polishing.”

Underlining his reputation as a skillful singer-songwriter who is open to possibilities and sonic ideas, Jarlo Bâse wrote and produced “Kalapati,” with Brian Lotho overseeing the recording and production process, and Munimuni’s Jolo Ferrer on bass duties.

“My good friend Jolo Ferrer played bass for this, which gave the track more color and movement. I also got to work with Brian Lotho of Sonic State Audio. Brian definitely knows how to work very well with artists and their songs. I thoroughly enjoyed the studio sessions with him.”

Jarlo Bâse is currently managed by Crown Artist Management—home to artists such as Maja Salvador (also its CEO), John Lloyd Cruz, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, and more.

His latest single “Kalapati” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Philippines.

Music News : Acclaimed singer-songwriter lullaboy drops debut album, chapters of you

9:14:00 PM

Another Asian music release for your playlist.

Singapore-based Indonesian-American artist lullaboy rings in the new year with his debut compilation album, chapters of you—released independently and available now on all major digital streaming platforms. The record comes with two new songs: “deja vu” and “open up.”

After being rejected by countless labels, lullaboy decided to take matters into his own hands across 2021, releasing a song every month for the whole year. Each song explored different perspectives around a central theme of discovering what love means, in all its different shapes and forms. With his storybook lyricisms and genuine, heartwarming vocals, it didn’t take long for fans around Southeast Asia (and the globe!) to take notice. This persistent approach garnered him tens of millions of streams, and grew his following to an incredible 1.5 million monthly listeners by the turn of the year.

Hundreds of fans then came together to co create the artwork for chapters of you, each submitting handwritten versions of their favorite lyrics and lines from his catalogue, to be placed alongside each other in the final image.

“From songs about crushes to self worth, from regret to filial and spiritual needs, “chapters of you” represents a photobook that I’m showing a significant other, but I also hope it represents every single fan’’s own experience,” the rising singer-songwriter shares. “I hope that listening to the album will be like looking into a mirror and realizing that true love is found in every chapter of your life.”

“dejavu” is the lead single off of this album, and will be accompanied by a music video filmed in Malibu, California. The track is an anthemic one, created together with longtime collaborator Nacho Larrazza, and combines lullaboy's signature pop sensibilities with powerful, upbeat soundscapes. It will be released at 2pm (SGT) on the 24 January.

11:50:00 PM

Music has indeed pierced through hearts and for this versatile musical charmer Jeremy G welcomes the New Year with a soul-pop ballad about longing for a loved one entitled “someday.”

The latest Star Pop release is his first composition, which was inspired by his yearning for those who mean to him the most. “I wrote ‘someday’ during a time when even the closest of people felt the farthest away. The pandemic has made us miss the people we care about and love the most,” said Jeremy, who rose to fame after becoming a finalist in “The Voice Teens Philippines” season 1 under the team of his coach, Sharon Cuneta.

The Kapamilya singer also dedicated the song to “those who are missing ‘their person’ and are hoping that ‘someday’ everything will be okay.” He worked with Star Pop label head Rox Santos to co-produce the album.

Along with the release of the single, the music video premiered on ABS-CBN Star Music YouTube channel, depicting the struggles of someone who is separated from his love, evoking hope that one day they will be reunited again. “someday” music video also stars Magui Ford.

Jeremy’s most recent release kickstarts his projects for 2022, which includes an all-original extended play (EP). He is also set to star in the musical series “Lyric and Beat,” an ABS-CBN and iQiyi production, alongside Darren Espanto, Angela Ken, Seth Fedelin, Andrea Brillantes, Sheena Belarmino, and AC Bonifacio. Their performances were captivating and soothing to the ear. Their compositions were also astonishing the beat, the lyrics, and the theme was captivating.

Soleil Misalucha made a jaw-dropping performance while playing her guitar. She also let the audience hear her talent in rapping. What's more interesting is that aside from being a talented singer-songwriter, Soleil is also a teacher.

Angelica Sengco, just like Soleil, is also a teacher with a captivating voice, and some of her compositions are interestingly witty, experiential, and with a nice rhythm to follow. Her presence on stage is a delight while she sings her pieces.

This third artist, Reiner Espiel is probably the Jack-of-all-trade, with his voice, talent, and being a musician, makes him an engaging artist. Especially, when he performs on stage. With a genius songwriter and musician like him, there's no dull moment when he's on stage.

The last artist is Joel Jabelosa, he is a songwriter who aims to give inspiration through his song and music.

Aside from the four (4) that were launched, there were also performances from selected artists like Choy Zablan, Reymart Titong, Seryosing Rockers, Ivee Madamba, Hunyo, Alvin Murillo, ang bandang Souldrift at The Yellow Cassette, and of course from the Founder of Madhouse, Mr. Rannie Raymundo.

Though they are all singers and composers, each of them has different genres and themes in the creation, plus the individuality they put every time they perform.

During the interview, Mr. Rannie Raymundo made an emphasis on the new breed of talents that needs to be put up to raise again that Filipino spirit in line with the music. He also said that they are campaigning to coin Filipino music as OFM which describes as Original Filipino Music.

Mr. Raymundo is right we need to have that spirit again, the love for Filipino Music.

10:15:00 PM

A year after launching the successful OPM collective “KAIBIGAN,” Filipino-American music director Troy Laureta continues to shine a light on Filipino music in his new album, “GILIW: A Troy Laureta OPM Collective Vol. 2,” featuring more world-renowned singers such as Grammy award-winning artists All-4-One and Deborah Cox and “American Idol” season 2 winner Ruben Studdard.

The 13-track “GILIW” album includes a “Magkasuyo Buong Gabi” duet by Deborah and Ruben and a reimagined version of “Laging Tapat” by American singer Skylar Stecker. Also part of the newly released collective is male R&B and pop group All-4-One for the song “Paano Ang Puso Ko.”

More American artists have given their shot at singing OPM with classical singer Fernando Varela also joining the album with his rendition of “You Are My Song,” while singer-songwriter Shoshana Bean renders her version of the classic ballad “Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw.” “Never Enough” singer Loren Allred is also featured in a track with her beautiful rendition of the song “Araw Gabi.”

On the local front, Boy Abunda makes a surprising presence in the album via the “Interlude: Pag-ibig” while Jona sings her version of “Someone To Love Me.” “GILIW” also features the “Kaibigan” intro by former “The Voice Kids Philippines” season 4 contestant Adah.

Joining Troy anew is his sibling Cheesa for the remake of the late 90’s hit “Kaba.” This time, Nicole Scherzinger has a duet with Regine Velasquez-Alcasid for the reimagined version of “Nandito Ako.” Jake Zyrus, also part of the “KAIBIGAN” album, is likewise back for the song “Maghintay Ka Lamang” as well as for the album’s “Outro: “Kung Kita’y Kapiling.”

An initiative of Troy in collaboration with ABS-CBN Music International, “GILIW” follows the well-received “KAIBIGAN” OPM collective, which was released to breathe new life into local classics with fresh interpretation by Filipino and non-Filipino collaborators to promote OPM masterpieces on the international stage.

DJ and Singer, Papa Obet of Barangay LS 97.1’s unveils “Papa Obet Sessions EP”

11:03:00 PM

DJs or Disc Jocks are the voice behind our favorite radio stations and our story or our kwento for now is about one of your favorite disc jocks in Barangay LS 97.1 none other Papa Obet. Yes, Papa Obet is now and officially a recording artist as he releases “Papa Obet Sessions,” it's an EP under GMA Music released last December 10, on-air and on digital streaming platforms worldwide.

Containing four tracks: "Ikaw Lang At Ako," (composed and originally performed by Janno Gibbs), "Kung Mababalik Ko Lang," by 604, "Kung Malaya Lang Ako," by Kris Lawrence and Papa Obet’s original composition "Ang Una Kong Pasko," this EP is a dream come true for him who shared during his interview that the ambition written in his high school yearbook was “to be a successful recording artist.”

“The EP was inspired by the Spotlight Music Sessions, an online music channel which showcases the talent of Pinoy artists through live performances,” he says.

“Ang Una Kong Pasko” is dedicated to the OFWs who are spending their Christmas away from their loved ones. “It was inspired by my experience when I had to spend Christmas on my own for the first time. And I dedicate this to the OFWs who are miles away from their families and are celebrating Christmas far from home for the first time,” shares Papa Obet.

Before becoming a Barangay LS disc jock, Papa Obet used to join various singing contests including GMA’s talent competition Protégé. He is also the songwriter behind Barangay LS’ theme song "Tayo Ay Forever" sang by Kapuso artists Ken Chan and Rita Daniela.

“I still can’t believe that my singing career could actually get this far. I’ve always wanted to be a radio DJ, but I’ve been singing since I was a child. I would join singing contests in Bataan and sometimes win. Then, I became a DJ here at Barangay LS and I’ve been here for 10 years. And now, GMA Music has given me an opportunity to be an official and legit recording artist and it has been really fun working with them,” says Papa Obet.

So, does a talented DJ receives weird requests on his show during the pandemic? Well, according to Papa Obet there are no weird requests but he mentioned that his show in Barangay LS 97.1 sure made a number of listeners and followers. That was probably the weirdest thing that happened to him during the pandemic. Fortunately, I made a follow-up question to Papa Obet, does he entertain listeners who request him to sing? So, according to Papa Obet, this is actually not new because he does sing and he even shared that there are listeners who ask and made requests for him to sing the song, that is what they did in his online show.  What else can you expect from a DJ ballader, nothing but pure heartfelt songs.

Talent, looks, voice and something else, only from Papa Obet!

Papa Obet Sessions EP is now available for streaming on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, and other digital music streaming services worldwide.
