BAYANI... ANG TATAY KO... Premieres Today, August 5

6:49:00 AM

Filipinos are noted to have a very significant and positive attitude in handling difficulties in life. Others may also treat their predicaments in sort of “cool” manners, which the Pinoys are really known for. M&N Films have come up with a brilliant idea of ideally showing to the public the film “Bayani Ang Tatay Ko.” An indie film about life, its struggles... it’s about presenting life’s most vivid moments with the people we love. This film not only wishes to instill family values but also provide entertainment and at the same time honors the law enforcers.

Actor-comedian and host Bayani Agbayani plays SPO3 Nicanor Corpuz , a decorated cop, loving dad and husband to his wife Susan played by Yayo Aguila, and son, Adrian played by child actor Yogo Singh. They live a simple, happy life until an incident took their lives on a different turn. One morning while in the police detachment where he is working, Taning played by Rommel Montano, a toughie from an influential family came looking for his colleague, SPO1 Joey Ponce. Ponce apparently shut down his illegal “videokarera” business and refused to accept a bribe, making the latter furious. Taning was scandalizing the station so he took a policewoman, SPO2 Pinky Madrigal hostage prompting Nick to defend his colleague.

Nick was suspended from service and he turned to selling “isaw” to make ends meet. Failing to do so, his wife Susan decided to go to Hongkong to work as a domestic helper. To help him in his business, Susan sent his brother, Ading played by Gene Padilla to help Nick tend to the isaw business. But the former cop realized that he is not cut for business, so he asked for his ninong, Col. Roberto Ugarte to give him an assignment. Colonel Ugarte referred him to the city hall where he worked as a traffic enforcer. As a traffic enforcer, Nick has learned to be happy with his new job because he wears a uniform and arrests violators. It was at this time when he was informed that his colleague, Ponce has remained missing since the precinct incident; SPO1 Fernandez had been looking for him. Worse, his wife Susan called to tell him she was victimized by an illegal recruiter.

All these tribulations that had happened to Nick and his family occurred very untimely. Witness how will a typical Filipino family face these challenges in a comedic and a bit of dramatic way with a sting of action to highlight the story.

Joining the lead stars are actor/model and ex-PBB housemate, Johann Santos, Ms. Jet Claveria, Butch Elizalde, Pinoy T.A.L.K. host Paul Quimbo, Ms. Jing Javier and Paulo Ponce and is under the helm of Ellen Argano. “Bayani...Ang Tatay Ko...” is one of the official entries to the 2nd PNP Film Festival and subsequently, the awarding will take place at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) on August 7, 2012.

Being a policeman is indeed a heroic profession; it is both a difficult and extensive task enabling continuous protection of the public and their property as well as maintaining law and order. Preventing crime, reducing its fear and ensuring the improvement of every citizen’s quality of life are no way an easy job. So let us all salute the gentle officers... the all-time “bayani” of every community.

“Bayani...Ang Tatay Ko...” will have its premiere showing on August 5, 2012, Sunday, which is today at SM North Edsa Cinema 5, 5:00- 6:30 PM. Please be guided for further announcements and updates of the movie’s scheduled screenings in various theaters nationwide. TOFARM, An Award Giving Body for Pinoy Farmers

10:33:00 PM

Have you been to a Farm? Have you tried working in a Farm? Well, I'm sure lots of the present generation would scratch their heads and wonder what's a farm really looks like. Perhaps most of the present generation have seen farms in online games like Farmville, in which at least helped in informing the young ones of how Farms works. In my part, though born and raised in a city life, I get to experienced living in the province with my grandparents. Getting your hands and feet dirty when farming.

A few weeks ago my correspondent Jefferson Montas was able to attend and witness the media launch of TOFARM, it is the search for THE OUTSTANDING FARMERS of the Philippines. An award giving body that recognizes the hard work of Filipino farmers, men and women. Today's farmers or the modern farmers includes those in the agri-business, fisher folk, animal raisers, co-ops, farm communities, scientists, the academe, Gus, both urban and rural.

Junior Chamber International, Philippines and Universal Harvester, Inc. joins together in a dream of reviving the glory of Philippine agriculture by promoting farming as noble, lucrative profession, especially for the youth. This is because the agricultural sector plays the most crucial part in our survival as a people.

According to them, most of today's generation are no longer interested in tilling their fathers land and they prefer to pursue city jobs or become doctors, lawyers and engineers. Just like our National hero Jose Rizal said, not all can be doctors. Some will have to stay and cultivate the land. That is why the JCI and Universal Harvester's mission and vision is to make agriculture attractive for the next generations and for the entire country once again. And for a long term goal JCI and Universal Harvester, Inc. wants the Philippines to excel in farming, to be competitive on the world stage, to produce more so that we can feed our own and not to rely on importing crops and produce.

According to TOFARM Project Chairman Rommel Cunanan they will give out 11 awards for this year, six for the individual category and five for the group category. They'll be looking for the awardee from Farmer, Fisherfolk, Livestock, Agri-Entrepreneur, young Farmer, Agricultural Innovator and Urban/City Farmer for the individual category while on the group category will be from Agriculture Cooperative, Family Farmer, Local Government unit, Agricuture Initiatives and People's Choice.

The nomination period for Outstanding Farmer candidates begins August 1 and will end on September 30. Validation and Judging of nominees will take place in October and November, while the Awarding takes place in December.

Nominations may be submitted as hard copy or sent online to www.tofarm.org. Nomination forms may be downloaded from the website.

For more information, call the TOFARM Hotline 709-5001 to 54, fax 709-5006 or email info.tofarm@gmail.com.

Movie Review: The Healing

11:26:00 AM

At first, I thought it was a story mainly about the healers. In a way it is but as the story goes my perception about the movie changes. It was not mainly about the healers but tackles about the act itself from a different point of view. As we all know, we Filipinos, have been known for believing in faith healers and I believe there are different faith healers in ever regions of the country, especially to those low class municipality who couldn't afford much of going to the doctors.

I think the movie “The Healing” was a mixture of different concepts from different movies that director Chito Rono have created. I think one of them is the movie “Feng Shui” where images of people shows and comes in the house which indicates that they were dead already.

The idea of showing a distorted face with one big eye which indicates that the character was being possessed was quite interesting. The idea about the crow being doppler ganger and possessing the body was another thing to be recognize because as far as I know in some movies like The Crow the bird itself carries the soul of the dead which gives them the power to come back from the dead. Well it was something like.

The movie “The Healing” has two ratings, one for the PG13 and the other is R18. The R18 shows some obscene and gory part of the movie which is not okay for other people but I believed it would be appreciated much if the movie goer would watch the uncut version.

Another thing that I have noticed about the movie was color oriented. Every scene shows a unified colors. The prominent color that I have noticed was first all white, then blue, and then yellow. Not really sure if it has a meaning but you can really noticed it.

Acting wise, well if it is from the Star for All Season it must be good and take note this was Governor V's first time to star in a suspense-horror movie. All the characters did bring the best. I like the character of Pokwang though she was delivering a serious line it was still funny. The comedian in her still came out. Kim Chiu as well was great in portraying her role.

My rating for this movie was two thumbs up for a suspense-horror film.

“The Healing” was starred by Governor Vilma Santos and together with Kim Chiu, Martin Del Rosario, Mark Gil, Allan Paule, Cris Villanueva, Daria Ramirez, Ces Quesada, ynez Veneracion, Simon Ibarra, Abi bautista, Joel Torre, Chinggoy Alonso, Mon Confiado, and Carmi Martin, Pokwan, and Ms. Janice De Belen. Directed by Chito Rono.

Sam Concepcion's First Screen Kiss with Tippy Dos Santos in IDoBidoo Bidoo

1:49:00 PM

Press Release
Teen heartthrob Sam Concepcion admits that Unitel’s comedy-musical IDoBidoo Bidoo is his biggest career break, and he is ultimately grateful that he has the promising Tippy Dos Santos as his leading lady. The movie, which features the iconic songs of the Apo Hiking Society, is topbilled by the entertainment industry’s most respectable names Gary Valenciano, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Ogie Alcasid, and Eugene Domingo and is directed by box-office director Chris Martinez.

“Tippy and I have been friends since way back. We represented the country in a festival in Korea when we were kids, and last year, we were first paired in Peter Pan. I was Peter to her Wendy,” recounts Sam. “This is such a big break and I am thankful that I have Tippy by my side to support me.”

In the movie, Sam plays Rock Polotan, who has impregnated his girlfriend Tracy Fuentebella (Tippy). Conflict starts when their families come into the picture- the affluent Fuentebella Family (Zsa Zsa and Gary) and the poor yet musically-inclined Polotan Family (Ogie and Eugene).

IDoBidoo Bidoo marks Sam’s crossover to doing more challenging and mature roles, as he was required to do his first onscreen kiss in the movie.

“Being in the business for so long, I know some people’s perception of me is that I’m still 12 or 13, but thankfully, I was blessed with this movie that I get to make people realize that I am already a grown-up,” shares the teen heartthrob. “Working with Tippy has always been a breeze. We have this rapport that comes from years of friendship.”

Asked about the kiss, Sam says “when we did the scene, I was already Rock who is madly in love with Tracy. So, it was ok. The more memorable parts are the minutes before and after the take.”

Tippy adds, “this is my first movie, so the kissing scene made me really nervous, but because it is Sam, with direk Chris as our director, everything turned out well and romantic.”

Tippy was a seasoned, yet young theater actress before showbiz discovered her. She has appeared in TV shows like Idol, Shoutout, Growing Up, among others.

Sam and Tippy are grateful that Tony Gloria and Unitel Pictures entrusted this project to them.

“Unitel brought numerous cinematic gems like Crying Ladies, La Visa Loca, and the songs of APO mirror the history of the Filipino people, until now, we can’t believe that we were tapped to be a part of this landmark movie,” gushes Sam. “This is a movie that every Filipino family should watch.”

IDo Bidoo Bidoo starts showing this August 29 in cinemas nationwide.

Party High with FAR EAST MOVEMENT’s ‘Dirty Bass’

7:39:00 AM

Isn’t it evident that the musical trend these days takes on a ‘club vibe’ remix? Turn on the radio and you’ll hear most of the pop songs possess an ‘in the club’ factor like Rihanna’s “Where Have You Been”, Nicki Minaj’s “Starships”, Justin Bieber’s “All Around the World”, Jessie J’s “Laserlight”, The Wanted’s “Chasing the Sun”, Mika’s “Celebrate”, Owl City’s and Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Good Time” among others. Los Angeles group Far East Movement (also known as FM) does just that as they party high with their newest album, DIRTY BASS.

Far East Movement members Kev Nish, Prohgress, J-Splif, and DJ Virman take elements of hip-hop, electro, alternative, and dance to create an original pop sound and lifestyle they refer to as Dirty Bass, their fourth studio album. The 16-track album features mind-blowing collaborations with Justin Bieber for the lead single “Live My Life”, Redfoo of LMFAO for a ‘Party Rock Remix’ version of “Live My Life”, Tyga in “Dirty Bass”, Pitbull in “Candy”, Cassie for “Fly With U”, Alvaro in “Show Me Love” and Ryan Tedder of One Republic for “Rocketeer” which is a platinum selling Top 10 Billboard charting that connected with new fans of all ages. Dirty Bass also includes the new single “Turn Up the Love” feat. Cover Drive, “Where the Wild Things Are” feat. Crystal Kay, “Flossy” feat. My Name Is Kay, “If I Die Tomorrow” feat. Bill Kaulitz, “Ain’t Coming Down” feat. Sidney Samson & Matthew Koma, “Basshead” feat. YG, “Lights Out (Go Crazy)” feat. Junior Caldera & Natalia Kills, the ethereal standout “Little Bird” plus their chart-topping tune “Like a G6”.

FM creates music that bridges the gap between underground party records and mainstream pop music. The group found mainstream success after building a following in the Downtown Los Angeles club scene. Their hit, "Like a G6", instantly exploded on radio and sales charts, reaching triple platinum-plus status and the top spot on Billboard's Hot 100 chart making them the first Asian-American group with a #1 song in the country.

Dirty Bass, with its booming bass line and sexy airtight melodies, definitely works in the clubs, but it's also meant to be pumped up while driving, working out, or anywhere else.

DIRTY BASS is out now in CDs exclusively under MCA Music available at Astroplus and Odyssey Music & Video or online via www.MyMusicStore.com.ph

Sam Concepcion’s Kontrabida wins at the PhilPop

3:31:00 PM
Sam Concepcion with Soc Villanueva (composer of Kontrabida, 2nd runner-up)

If you've missed the Philippine Popular Music Festival like me, well here are some of the information that they've sent me about Sam Concepcion's Kontrabida.  Read the details below.

Teen heartthrob, multi-talented performer Sam Concepcion breathed life to Soc Villanueva’s entry Kontrabida to the recently-concluded First Philippine Popular Music Festival. The song was adjudged second-runner up in the competition.

Soc, composer of numerous hit songs including Kung Ako Na Lang Sana, personally chose Sam to interpret Kontrabida, which tells a protagonist-turned-antagonist’s love story.

“I never doubted Sam’s talent. Even before he stepped onstage, I knew he would give justice to the song,” says Soc. “Sam’s confidence is just so high and talent is overflowing that I know that the battle is already half-won.”

Sam, who last joined a competition less than a decade ago via Little Big Star, where he bagged the top plum, was ecstatic over the commendation.

“I know the song is catchy, unpretentious, and enjoyable to sing,” admits Sam. “But landing the third spot among 14 equally-brilliant entries is extremely amazing.”

Sam received glowing reviews from Jim Paredes, via his instagram account, describing his performance as “wow.”

Toto Sorioso’s Tayo-Tayo Lang, which talks about a musician’s experiences performing to a near-empty venue, bagged the 2nd place. Ebe Dancel interpreted the song.

The top prize went to Karl Villuga’s Bawat Hakbang, a beautifully-written inspirational song interpreted by Mark Bautista and Akafellas.

The Board of Judges (L-R) Ely Buendia, Jim Paredes, Louie Ocampo, Noel Cabangon, Kathleen Go, Chico Garcia and Randy Estrellado

The task of evaluating the final entries was given to the distinct panel of judges, composed by some of the most respected names in the industry – singer-hitmaker-advocate Noel Cabangon, famous radio personality Chico Garcia, Universal Records’ Managing Director Kathleen Dy-Go, PhilPop Treasurer Randy Estrellado, former Eraserheads frontman Ely Buendia, ace songwriter-musical director Louie Ocampo, and APO Hiking Society Member Jim Paredes.

The Reunion, An Eraserheads Tribute Concert

10:13:00 AM

Lived my teenage life hearing the songs and musics of Eraserheads and it made me realize how much I've grown.  The Reunion, An Eraserheads tribute Concert brings back memories of my teenage life. Some of the songs have been part of courtship and inspiration. Some of these songs were also the comfort and refuge of brokenhearted ones, I'm also one of those. May it be despair or joy this songs and musics have made my youth unforgettable and worth remembering.

Too bad I wasn't able to watch their last concert as a group.  I was financially unstable back then that's why I can't yet afford to buy those tickets.  So I just listened to it on the radio because of the radio station that I've always listened covers that event.

So, it was really fun listening to the Eraserheads' songs once again.  Though they are not the ones playing, still, it feels good to hear those songs again.  During the concert, people who purchased this album get a chance to watch the concert much closer and also get a chance to win in a raffle where the Chevrolet Sparks is the grand prize.

“The Reunion” concert is a tribute to the songs created by the Eraserheads band with its members namely Ely Buendia, Raymund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala, and Marcus Adoro.  These songs are played and sung by various artists such as Callalily, 6CycleMind with Eunice of Gracenote, Hilera, Itchyworms, Mayonnaise, Tanya Markova, Johnoy Danao, Jay Durias, Vin Dancel, and Ney Dimaculangan.

This concert is under Star Records productions entitled “The Reunion: An Eraserheads Tribute Concert” as it pays homage to the band’s numerous contribution to the Philippine music history and to the country’s culture as a whole. The event is a celebration not only of the generation who grew up to the music of Eraserheads but also a celebration of today’s youth who are discovering the greatness of the band that revived Pinoy rock in 1990s.
