JobStreet reveals workforce’s view on upskilling, launches “Job To Cart” event for easier job seeking amidst recovery

3:40:00 PM

With the growing demand for new and relevant skills, leading online job portal JobStreet reveals key findings on the Filipino workforce’s view on reskilling, upskilling, and digital learning from their recent Decoding Global Talent Survey.

When it comes to upskilling, 77% of Filipino employees are willing to be retrained for a different job as needed, according to JobStreet’s Decoding Global Talent Survey released last May. This is even higher among blue collar workers at 82%.

The growing number of workers who value upskilling or retraining and acquiring multiple skills can be attributed to the need for job security. As the pandemic has changed the work landscape, candidates are more willing to learn additional or new skills to be able to remain efficient in their jobs during the quarantine economy.

“Job roles are transforming faster than ever and both hirers and candidates must understand the need for upskilling for them to be more competitive and employable, respectively. Besides, it sustains a culture of learning in the workplace, hence improving overall productivity and resiliency at the time of crisis,” shared JobStreet Philippines Country Manager Philip Gioca.

The same survey reveals that Filipino workers’ learning preferences are still traditional with On-the-Job Training at 70% shown as the most preferred way of upskilling, followed by Self-study at 63%, and Conferences and Seminars at 56%.

Job resiliency

Aside from the number of employees who are willing to learn additional skills, the report also features higher-risk and lower-risk jobs in terms of resiliency due to automation.

JobStreet recommends for companies to build plans to expand the skills of their workers especially those in Customer Service, Service Sector, Administration and Secretariat, and Arts and Creative Work, which are at higher risk.

Meanwhile, employees in lower-risk jobs such as Management, Engineering and Technical, Science and Research, Law, Health and Medicine, Social Care, IT and Technology, and Digitalization and Automation are also recommended to upskill or be trained to stay relevant.

“We can see that automation has become a key factor in the workplace, so it is an advantage to learn digital skills regardless of your job role,” Gioca added.

Making job seeking easier amidst recovery

While economic recovery is on the horizon, JobStreet understands that applying for jobs remains a challenge among Filipino candidates. To help jobseekers, JobStreet’s “Job To Cart” online event is providing applicants with thousands of career opportunities nationwide.

Happening from July 26 to 30, “Job To Cart” gives participants a variety of career choices over its five day run, with applications done through easy-to-use chatbots and live chat features with participating employers.

Day 1 will be dedicated to Luzon-based jobs, then on Day 2, available positions from Visayas-Mindanao jobs will be added. Day 3 is launching entry-level jobs, while Day 4 introduces overseas opportunities, and Day 5 opens government support and services.

Candidates can also catch JobStreet’s Facebook Live Shows, featuring special musical guests Fighting Monday, Reese Lansangan, and The Juans. Guests will also talk about their experiences in job searching and working in an office. With the help of hosts Show Suzuki and Bea Benedicto, JobStreet will also present job vacancies that are up for grabs through “Job To Cart” during the livestream.

“Job To Cart is an effort that aims to make applying for jobs a more entertaining activity just as how much we Filipinos enjoy online shopping. Hopefully, through this online event, we are able to help more candidates rebuild their careers and find a job that matters to them,” said Gioca.

Job seekers can pre-register now through http://jobstreet.com.ph/vcf-21.

A Comically Bizarre Release from We Got with the music video of “Panahon”

8:52:00 AM

Another interesting music video. I just don't know yet if this is really a comic and at the same time bizarre. But will try to watch it and see for myself.. For now, continue reading the about this new release from We Got.

Eight-piece reggae collective We Got has released the official music video of their new single “Panahon.”

Directed by Shai Advincula, the story takes place in the time of pandemic, where a woman in isolation found unexpected companionship in the unlikeliest of circumstances.

According to Advincula, the concept behind the music video revolves around the idea of isolation and the crazy things that we do to cope with the loneliness that comes with it. She explains, “Over the past year, our lives have shifted by being stuck at home most of the time. There are a lot of things that we’re missing from our pre-pandemic life, one of which is the affection we get from a companion. But how do we cater to our need for affection in a socially distanced world? The music video shows a bizarre but refreshing take on coping.”

Vocalist and guitarist Mack Dela Cruz reveals that it was the band’s first time to work with Advincula. “She’s very professional, and her ideas blew our minds. We had so much fun and it was a great experience for us working with such a tremendous team.”

Written by the band’s guitarist Mike Quebral and arranged by vocalist and guitarist Mack Dela Cruz, “Panahon” was recorded at Kodama Studio with the goal to produce a calm, soothing piece of music that finds worth in spontaneity, and not having to waste life worrying about the daily grind. “We know a lot of people suffering from depression, so I wrote this song to remind people that there is hope, and slowly but surely, you’ll be able to get past it with a renewed perspective in life,” Quebral shares.

The song is part of We Got’s debut EP, Hiwaga, which was released on all digital music platforms worldwide last week. Produced by Raymund Marasigan and mastered by Shinji Tanaka, the 7-track release delivers infinitely hummable jams that prove to be both fun and heartwarming. f

Stepping into the spotlight with staccato chords, infectious horns, and syncopated rhythms, the mini album features five previously released tracks, and two new songs: the effervescent jam “Kakaiba Ka” and the EP’s lead single “Panahon.” The latter brings some exciting new energy to this season’s predictable nature, taking into account the importance of weeding out the negativity to enjoy what life has to offer.

We Got’s debut EP, Hiwaga is available on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Philippines. Its lead single “Panahon” has a music video that you can watch via YouTube.

Linggo Ng Musikang Pilipino 2021 goes digital with diverse and inclusive programming

10:28:00 AM

Celebrate music as Linggo Ng Musikang Pilipino (LMP) marks its second digital edition this year with a commitment to promoting awareness and appreciation of OPM artists from all over the world through multiple social media platforms.

The weeklong celebration promises a wide variety of music programs that not only cater to a specific format, but also encompasses concerts and gigs, open mic challenges, exclusive premieres, workshops, and a lecture series.

The series of virtual events will run from July 23 to August 1, and will be streamed live via Facebook and KUMU.

Aside from a diverse set of homegrown talents performing online, LMP also partners with key and emerging stakeholders in the music industry such as AmiananPop, MinPop, Kadasig & Artist Ko, Soupstar Music, and Warner Music Philippines to ensure that artists with different backgrounds, and from different regions, are given equal opportunities to perform and engage with the community.

As Christian Bautista puts it, “We wanted there to be a balance between independent artists and mainstream/signed artists from all over the country and to try to cover as many styles and genres as possible. OPM already has a large roster of artists and we wanted to be able to feature as many as we can from the organization. We took into consideration their music and styles as well as the platforms that they are active in for the artists performing the LMP DigiGigs.”

Aside from the music shows and online concerts featuring the roster of PhilPop’s past champions and finalists, LMP is partnering with PETA for a special online showcase featuring the songs from Rak Of Aegis, as well as songwriting and learning opportunities that are spearheaded by the institution’s other partners, FILSCAP and PhilPop.

Even as the music industry is struggling to get back to its former glory and a lot of plans are derailed by the pandemic, LMP refuses to back down in its efforts to persevere and push through with mounting an online celebration that champions Filipino musicians not just from Metro Manila, but also from other parts of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, and the rest of the globe.

Hence, the tagline ‘Ituloy Ang Awitan’ was formed. In the words of LMP Project Manager Gab Cabangon, it was developed as part of a “desire to just challenge the situation that we are in.” He explains, “We wanted to highlight how Filipino Music is here to stay and will continue to be a part of our lives and a sense of hope despite the challenges in these trying times. The creation and support of Filipino music should never stop because our songs are able to reflect the story and the culture of the Filipino people.”

OPM Icon and OPM Board Member Noel Cabangon maintains that nothing can stop this important milestone in the history of Philippine music from happening. He reaffirms, “In an ideal situation, we would have wanted to have live shows and concerts so that fans of Filipino Music will get to have that real-life concert experience once again. But of course, there are a lot of considerations that we have to make. Our priority is to mount this festival safely and responsibly for everyone. For the time being, the social media platforms are a suitable alternative to allow artists to perform without the health risks brought about by the pandemic.”

Organized and produced by Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM) and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), LMP has been around since 2014, and has established itself as the premiere annual music festival of Filipino music.

New From Inigo and Moophs, Good Vibes in the New Song “ARAW MO”

8:38:00 AM

Here's something new from the Island!

Island pop artist Inigo Pascual and record producer Moophs are sharing more good vibes through the catchy song “Araw Mo,” their first all-Filipino track collaboration.

To be released this Friday (July 23), “Araw Mo” is about hope for the future and the love that inspires that hope.

Inigo’s performance of the latest Tarsier Records release aims to bring out fervor and excitement as he sings along to the groovy anthem, "Ito ang araw mo (This is your day!)"

Meanwhile, Moophs spoke about his excitement on producing a Tagalog song for Inigo.

“I’m glad Inigo picked me to produce this for him. I don’t usually do Tagalog songs so this was cool to do,” shared the Tarsier Records label head. “It made me try some things in the music that I wouldn’t normally do and I was able to channel OPM vibes a bit more deliberately.”

Aside from Inigo, Moophs has collaborated with several OPM artists this 2021, including Bugoy Drilon for “Tied” and “Shipwrecked,” GIBBS for the 70s pop-rock song “Angel Baby.”

Last month, Inigo released his first international album, “Options,” which includes his collaborations with Moophs such as “Catching Feelings” and “Always.”

Bring out some good vibes by streaming “Araw Mo,” out on digital music platforms starting Friday (July 23). For updates, follow Tarsier Records on its socials media accounts @tarsierrecords.

“LoveTeam Stream”: Be the third love team on the “Love At First Stream” movie

9:01:00 AM

Guys this is interesting! Read the whole story below and get to know why!

Things just got more exciting for movie fans and the whole Kumunity! Star Cinema, the Philippines’ biggest film production outfit, and kumu, the country’s leading social entertainment app and live streaming platform, collaborate for the upcoming Cathy Garcia-Molina film, ‘Love At First Stream.’ What’s more, two lucky Kumunizens have a shot at becoming the third love team in the movie. By joining the “LoveTeam Stream” kumu Campaign, one romantic duo will have their chance to be featured in “Love At First Stream”. That’s right, one Kumunizen pair will have a special guest appearance at the upcoming movie.

The power to decide rests in the Kumunity’s hands as the campaign officially opens, from July 16 to 26, 2021.

Top billed by today’s rising love teams such as KaoRhys—comprised of Kaori Oinuma and Rhys Miguel, and DanThony—comprised of Daniela Stranner and Anthony Jennings, ‘Love At First Stream’ is about the new normal, where life is digital. The movie partnership is set to be a first in Philippine cinema history, where audiences can participate and even decide the new talents to be featured.

The “LoveTeam Stream” is the first interactive digital project for “Love At First Stream”. It is open to all kumu users 18+ years old and above, based in the Philippines.

As an official kumu Campaign, standard campaign mechanics apply, where livestreamers must collect the specific virtual gifts to build up their diamond value. Only the diamonds from the “LoveTeam Stream” virtual gifts will be counted in the leaderboard. At the end of the campaign period, the streamers with the highest diamond count win the tier prizes of the campaign.

However, there is a slight twist- A love team duo must live stream together as an official pair, represented by one kumu account, or device. Only one representative account will be counted in the leaderboard; official winners must be a love team pair and kumu users. There is also a special consent form to be signed by the representative participantComplete details of the “LoveTeam Stream” kumu Campaign can be found on the campaign’s official in-app page.

The exclusive “LoveTeam Stream” virtual gifts are “Chocolates”, “Cupid”, “Date” and “Love Team.” With them, the Kumunity can cast their choice for which love team they want to shoot to stardom. By sending virtual gifts to their love team of choice, the Kumunity not only shows their support for the pair, but also increases their chances of winning. By the end of the campaign period, the loveteam pair with the highest diamond value will be the third loveteam to be guest-featured in “Love At First Stream.”

The “LoveTeam Stream” is one of the most exciting kumu Campaigns to date! It is a real chance for kumu users and streamers to live their movie dreams. Because so long as you are with the Kumunity, we make dreams come true.

The “LoveTeam Stream” kumu Campaign is officially open from July 16 to 26, 2021. More details can be found in the campaign’s in-app page. Paolo Avelino and Charlie Dizon reunite on the music video of Zack Tabudlo’s “Hindi Ko Kaya”

9:05:00 PM

Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) best actress Charlie Dizon and 4th EDDYS best actor Paolo Avelino reunite with acclaimed filmmaker Antoinette Jadaone on the music video of Zack Tabudlo’s “Hindi Ko Kaya.”

The two have worked with Jadaone on the breakout drama, Fan Girl, which premiered in Japan at the 33rd Tokyo International Film Festival last year, and swept the awards of last year’s Metro Manila Film Festival 2020, including Best Picture and Best Director, and acting nods for both of its leads.

As experts in helming coming-of-age narratives that feature the realistic portrayal of romantic relationships, Jadaone, and her team Project 8, deliver a contemplative material that speaks as much to the mind as to the heart. The end result is a lovely but melancholic piece of work that not only complements the song’s lyrical foundations but also arrives as a stand-alone achievement in filmmaking, partly because of its captivating storytelling and heartfelt sentimentality.

“It was such an honor working with another legend,” says Zack Tabudlo. “Direk Dan Villegas which is the director of Binibini and also her boyfriend, works with the same production team so the similarity of the environment is there.” Poised to be another smash in the vein of “Binibini” music video, which has amassed more than 20 million views on YouTube and was directed by Jadaone’s partner Dan Villegas, “Hindi Ko Kaya” follows the tradition of Zack Tabudlo’s songs being hailed as modern-day anthems that reflect this generation’s collective sentiments through visual and emotional terms. The music video of Zack Tabudlo’s “Hindi Ko Kaya” is now available on YouTube.

About Zack Tabudlo
Zack Tabudlo is an alternative-pop RnB artist from Manila Philippines, signed under Island Records Philippines. He hit the ground running when he began his music career, becoming a finalist for reality talent show Talentadong Pinoy at the age of 10 but he is very well known as a contestant under Team Bamboo in The Voice Kids Season 1.

Among his influences are contemporary pop chart-toppers Charlie Puth, Harry Styles, and Island Records label-mate Shawn Mendes. But with all these influences, Zack approaches the genre of pop with his own distinct approach. His artistry can be characterized as a tasteful blend of R&B, soft rock, funk and vocally driven pop.

With a slew of catchy singles under his belt, all leading up to what’s looking to be a promising full-length in the future, the young musician is gaining momentum. His hustle may have been riding below the radar, but one can expect 2021 to be Zack’s year. To date, Zack’s latest single ‘Binibini’ has topped both the Spotify and YouTube trending charts for more than a month, and also breaking through Spotify Global Viral, several Spotify viral charts in Asia-Pacific countries including Canada and New Zealand - making Binibini one of the biggest songs of 2021 so far. His other track ‘Nangangamba,’ which was released in 2020, also peaked at No.1 on both Spotify Global Viral 50 and Philippines Viral 50

Have You Heard Makki Lucino's Rendition of "She Used To Be Mine?"

7:23:00 AM

If you haven't heard how Makki Lucino's rendition of "She Used To Be Mine," well, get your fingers working and find out what's interesting about Makki's rendition.

“Tawag ng Tanghalan” Season 4 grand finalist Makki Lucino gives a new meaning to the emotional ballad “She Used to Be Mine,” as she releases her own rendition of the song under Star Music.

“We want it to serve as a reminder to everyone not to be afraid of change, to always celebrate life, and to embrace one’s journey,” said Makki, who initially performed the song while competing in “Tawag ng Tanghalan.”

“Kinanta ko po siya sa ‘Tawag Ng Tanghalan’ bago makapasok ng top 6, 'yung feedback po ay na-touch 'yung mga tao, naiyak sila. 'Yun po 'yung maganda, na I was able to touch other people's hearts,” she added.

Dubbed as the “Queer of Soul,” Makki aims to represent the LGBTQ+ community and inspire Filipinos through her heartfelt performances and music releases—starting with “She Used to Be Mine.”

Written and composed by American singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles for the musical “Waitress,” the track reflects the disconnection one feels between her past and present self, and who she might have become if her circumstances had been different.

Meanwhile after her journey on “Tawag ng Tanghalan,” Makki has also ventured into livestreaming on kumu via “Queer of Soul” on the SeenZone channel (@seenzonechannel) and guestings on FYE Channel and MYX.

Stream Makki’s version of “She Used to Be Mine,” out now on various digital music streaming services. For more details, like Star Music on Facebook (www.facebook.com/starmusicph) and follow it on Twitter and Instagram (@StarMusicPH).

Charlie Portrays A Different Character in iWantTFC's "My Sunset Girl"

10:05:00 PM

After becoming a household name for her award-winning role in the movie “Fan Girl,” Charlie Dizon is playing another fearless character in her latest project – a hopeless romantic searching for true love, even if it kills her.

Charlie refuses to let a deadly illness hold her back as she unexpectedly falls in love for the first time with Jameson Blake in the iWantTFC original series ”My Sunset Girl,” which streams worldwide this July 14.

Here, Charlie plays Ciara, a free-spirited young lady who defies her circumstances in pursuit of love and happiness. She suffers from xeroderma pigmentosum, an illness that could turn deadly if she is exposed to sunlight for a long period of time. As a result, Ciara is unable to travel the world but she makes up for this by watching travel vlogs and making friends online.

Despite her rare condition, Ciara believes that she is still capable of falling in love and believes that she will find the right person who will love her back.

Ciara then comes across and develops a deep bond with Lucas (Jameson), a travel enthusiast just like her who promises to help her accomplish all her goals in her travel bucket list.

But as the two start to get closer, Ciara realizes that it is not only her sickness that will hinder her from meeting up with Lucas. Her strict mother Melissa (Mylene Dizon) will prevent them from seeing each other and will even go as far as confronting Lucas to stay away from her daughter.

However, Ciara does not know that Lucas maliciously planned and manipulated her into falling in love with him so that he could help execute his father Elias’ (Joem Bascon) evil intentions.

Why does Elias want to get revenge on Ciara’s family? What will happen when Ciara and Lucas’ love for one another actually becomes real and unconditional?

Co-produced by Dreamscape Entertainment and All Blacks Media, the iWantTFC original series is directed by Andoy Ranay and also stars Lance Reblando, Ana Abad Santos, Jun Jun Quintana, Frances Makil-Ignacio, and Jonathan Tadioan.

This is Charlie’s first lead role after her critically acclaimed performance in “Fan Girl,” for which she won Best Actress awards at the Metro Manila Film Festival and Entertainment Editors' Choice (Eddys).

5 Things to Watch Out To Prevent Heart Problem

2:25:00 PM

The Philippine Heart Association (PHA) recently held its 10th edition of "Usapang Puso sa Puso" (Heart to Heart Talk). It is one of the many informative programs of the association where people can watch and learn. In this edition, the program discusses the heart health of our fathers, thus, titled "Puso Ni Daddy Sintigas pa ba ng Haligi?" Aside from the discussion, it also aims to educate people entirely about heart issues and problems. Experts also share their insights and practices on how to prevent having heart problems. Panelists from different expertise were present to share their knowledge about the subject matter, namely, Dr. Jorge Sison, Dr. Badette Arevalo, and Dr. Benjamin Quito. Mayor Richard Gomez, an advocate of CPR, is also part of the panel but was on official business.

There were questions relating to heart problems were raised in the program, and our panel of experts addressed them accordingly. Aside from their insights about the subject matter, they were also generous enough to share some of the practices they believe can help prevent heart problems.

What interests me more was the ways to know or detect symptoms or changes in our body that contributes to developing heart problems or if we're having problems already with our heart. So, what are the things to watch out for us to know if we're at risk of having a heart problem or already experiencing a heart problem?
  • 1. If you're having difficulty breathing with a few activities.
  • 2. Sudden unexplained pain in the chest.
  • 3. Obesity, Dad bod, or abdominal obesity can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.
  • 4. Inactivity or no physical activity.
  • 5. If with vices like cigarette smoking and drinking. According to Dr. Sison, men are more prone to cardiovascular diseases.
This list is just some of the many things to watch out for to prevent having cardiovascular disease. So, if you're experiencing some of these, maybe it's about time for you to visit your friendly neighborhood doctor for a check-up.

PHA always has programs for the public to give awareness about cardiovascular diseases and how to prevent it. It is the organization's way of helping out in every possible way. So, if you want to know more about its plans and activities, you can visit their website Philippine Heart Association (philheart.org), or their Facebook page Philippine HEART Association
