Road to Braga Blends Punk and Rock ‘n’ Roll in Latest EP

4/19/2025 05:39:00 AM

Bandung-based band Road to Braga has reignited the local music scene with the release of their latest EP, Punk N Roll. Blending the raw energy of punk rock, the swagger of rockabilly, and the groove of classic rock ‘n’ roll, the five-track collection offers a high-voltage listening experience designed to both move and provoke thought.

The EP marks a bold transition in the band’s sound, shifting from rockabilly roots to a more punk-driven edge. Punk N Roll captures the spirit of youth—its freedom, frustration, and unfiltered emotion—in a sonic celebration of rebellion and self-expression.

Inspired by legendary acts like Stray Cats, Johnny Thunders, Motorhead, and Social Distortion, Road To Braga carries the spirit of Punk n’ Roll as the core identity of their music and message.

Tracklist - "Punk N Roll" EP
1.Hidup di Jalan
Channeling the spirit of '70s punk bands like Ramones and The Clash, this track screams rebellion and the untamed life of youth with no rules.
2.Lonely
A melancholic yet danceable tune, reflecting fear of loneliness with emotionally rich lyrics over upbeat instrumentation.
3.Lancang
A sharp critique of opportunistic individuals with no backbone, served with bold riffs and biting lyrics.
4.Jeruji
A tale of false freedom and wild living, told through catchy rock n roll grooves and stylish flair.
5.Mana yang Katanya Merdeka
The EP's final track delivers a powerful social-political message about inequality and hypocrisy in a country that calls itself "free." A true punk anthem for the disillusioned.

"'Punk 'n' Roll' is not just the name of our release-it's who we are,"

This groundbreaking event aims to raise the bar for the local music scene, promising fans an unforgettable audio-visual spectacle.

Inspired by their upcoming third studio album, The Traveller Across Dimensions, the concert will merge live music with cutting-edge multimedia storytelling. SB19 and NOBITA put their own spin on The Eraserheads’ iconic anthems

1/02/2023 12:17:00 AM

To commemorate the success of The Eraserheads’ reunion concert last night, top OPM acts such as SB19 and NOBITA have put their own unique spin on the supergroup’s beloved classics.

Released today under Sony Music Entertainment, the revamped versions honor the timeless appeal of Eheads’ music, while giving it a more contemporary flavor that resonates with the streaming audience.

P-Pop Kings SB19 captures the spirit of the holidays with their own take on “Christmas Party,” a song off The Eraserheads’ fourth studio album, Fruitcake. Turning the original into a festive banger, the five-member boyband incorporates elements of dance-pop, R&B/hip-hop, and modern funk into the mix while carrying with them the vibe and energy of the track’s nostalgic past.

“The Eraserheads are one of the most influential bands of our time,” says SB19 in a statement. “We retained everything that’s great about the song, but made sure to add our own creative direction in terms of overall sound. There’s a balance of artistic liberty and compromise in the way we approach the material, and we’re definitely happy with how it turned out.”

Stell of SB19 adds, “we feel honored that we were chosen to recreate the song. Our tour schedule was really tight, but gladly we were still able to push through with it before leaving LA. Recording in a different country also feels surreal, we didn’t expect we’d reach this far.”

The eclectic rendition of “Christmas Party,” is produced by August Rigo, the hitmaker behind some of BTS’ biggest global smashes (“On” and “Black Swan”). NOBITA, whose single “Ikaw Lang” is the most streamed song of 2022 according to Spotify Wrapped, expressed enthusiasm and gratitude when they found out that they’re part of the music project that pays tribute to the generation-defining catalog of The Eraserheads. "We grew up listening to and playing Eheads songs," the alt-rock group says in a statement. “NOBITA heavily draws inspiration from their music, especially their brand of songwriting. Their work has shaped us into where we are now, and we’re forever grateful to their enormous contribution to OPM artists, young and old.”

For their part, NOBITA adds a little jazz-pop treatment to “Magasin” without completely losing the song’s upbeat and heavily melodic arrangement. Slightly slowing it down with stripped-down finesse, the chart-topping five-piece act puts sunshine back in “hugot” with endearingly surprising twist.

Apart from the revamped tracks by some of today’s biggest hitmakers, five of The Eraserheads’ legendary albums were re-released in full 360-degree spatial sound to give listeners a new immersive music experience. These influential records include Ultraelectromagneticpop!: The 25th Anniversary Remastered Edition, Circus (25th Anniversary Remastered), Cutterpillow, Fruitcake, and Sticker Happy.

SB19’s “Christmas Party” and NOBITA’s “Magasin” are out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.

Jay Justiniani Sings Again, Now with the Fireflies

9/15/2022 06:44:00 AM

"Once an artist, always an artist," maybe this is a phrase that I could define Jay Justiniani, the former vocalist of Cueshe and now the lead vocals for the band "Fireflies." After seven (7) years and the onslaught of Covid19, Jay is back to singing, and this time he sings with the "Fireflies" band.

Early this September, a gig happened in Fiyo Bagi Restaurant and Bar. It is the relaunched of the "Fireflies" band together with a new set of band members. The current members of the group were composed of Junjie Dosdos, the keyboardist when he was in Cueshe, now Fireflies' songwriter and rhythm guitarist. JC Del Rosario IV is also a songwriter and bassist for the band. RM Tolentino, the drummer. Pat Galut, the lead guitarist. Of course, Jay Justiniani, Cueshe's former vocalist and now the lead vocals of the group "Fireflies."

Right after a few song performances of the group, which include pieces from the former band where everyone is familiar with Jay singing, a press conference was held together with some bloggers and media present. It was exclusive enough for a small number of individuals and platforms to cover print, TV, and online.

With so many questions to ask, I was more interested in the dynamics and process of how they create their songs for the new band, the Fireflies. According to Jay, "... luckily with this group nga, I'll tell you again, Junjie is a resolute writer, I also try to write songs and JC comes over there... that's a nice thing about it and then everybody is just everybody... hindi na-oofend... everybody comes to creating better songs." So, I can say that in this group they are more open and collaborative with the songs they make. It is indeed a good opportunity for a band.

With their songs, according to Junjie, who was from Cueshe, it is really hard not to sound like your former band because that's your style but they are striving not to make it the same as from their past song pieces.

A quick trivia about the band Fireflies, according to the band they named it Fireflies because they wanted to be that spark or a flicker of light, especially in dark times. The group is currently managed by Ms. Grace. To experience live band performance get in touch with them at 09923150106 or you can visit their FB page https://www.facebook.com/fireflies.ph for more info and updates on their gigs.

The night was great and being a person who loves to listen to music, especially live performances, it was a blast. And two other bands performed that night, the Rotom Olkis and Static Edge.
v Looking forward to Fireflies' music!

Interesting, Ben&Ben teases fans with cryptic billboards across Metro Manila

8/20/2022 11:07:00 AM

This is probably interesting. Cryptic billboards and posters around the Metro and its alluding to a new Ben&Ben release have recently appeared in strategic locations all over Metro Manila.

The material, which contains discarded film photos with texts exposing some personal thoughts, is said to be part of the lyrics of an upcoming Ben&Ben song to be released sometime next week.

A few days ago, the nine-piece Filipino collective tweeted what looks like a snippet of lyrics offering an intimate take on the painstaking process of letting go. Ben&Ben also dropped a performance video of “Stand By You,” featuring Indonesian superstar Pamungkas. The collaborative visuals, which were recorded earlier this month at SoundCheck Studio, have racked up more than 220,000 views as of press time.

Set to conquer the international stage with their first North American tour, the Paninindigan Kita music act will be performing in iconic and key venues across nine cities in the US and Canada—ahead of their send-off concert on September 3 at the CCP Open Grounds.

When Music Means Something Else: Checking some Lines in the Song Narda

8/20/2022 10:12:00 AM

If you love listening to bands, specifically rock bands, then you've probably heard the group named Kamikazee. Originally, the term kamikaze was a Japanese term for Japanese Special Attack Units of military aviators who flew suicide attacks for the Empire of Japan against Allied naval vessels, which happened during the 2nd World War. And that's a fact that happened.

But, if you're pronouncing Kamikazee with a double letter "e" at the end it's a play of words that describes "kami kasi" or is translated as "it's because of us."

Kamikazee band emerges during 2000, a Filipino rock band originally known all throughout its career as a quintet composed of Jay Contreras, Jomal Linao, Led Tuyay, Puto Astete, Bords Burdeos, Jian Lubiano, and Mikki Jill. Some of their albums are Kamikazee, Maharot, Long Time Noisy, and Romantico.

Anyway, we just introduced the band but the interesting part is one of their songs that made a hit in the airwaves, entitled "Narda." Especially now that the Darna series started.

Narda is the human character of the Superheroine, Darna, but for Kamikazee it is one of their songs under the Album "Maharot." A song themed about unrequited aspiration and love for the character Darna.

Though the song may have its wholesome image, there is a specific part of the song that is considered a double meaning. Taken from its album title "Marahot," which means playful or flirtatious, it probably has that notion to play with the idea.

The specific part gives reader a wild imagination on its meaning.

"Sa likod ng mga tala
Kahit sulyap lang, Darna"

If you're in your teens this has probably given away its meaning. Translated literally to fit what it deems to be the meaning, "Behind or beyond the stars, even just a glimpse, Darna." Does Darna fly beyond or behind the stars? Probably not, and what about the glimpse, can you really see Darna if she passes behind the stars? I think not again. So, what does the line means? If you're really an avid fan of Darna, what does she wear? She commonly wears a two-piece costume and if you're observant enough what design can you see on the upper piece of the costume? A "star," so if you do the math you'll land on what's behind the stars. It may sound perverted, obscene, or something else but that's what it intends if you have a playful mind.

Not really sure if that particular line is intentionally created to give a double meaning or if it was just a random line. But if you're really drop-dead admiring Darna that would a thing to consider.

Again, the song is created under the album title "Maharot," so, it would be bad to think of flirtatious or kinky ideas with the song.

Well, will just have to find it out from the writer himself, if they thought of that in mind while writing the song. For now, let's make our minds go wild for a while.

The Darna series has started and Narda has shouted "Darna" and shows her first transformation. I think the song Narda of Kamikazee would not be applicable in this version of Darna because Ding is introduced as her sibling.

If you have not heard of the song, I'm not sure where you are if you didn't, you'll definitely enjoy it. You can check it on youtube, spotify or other platforms.

Any Name’s Okay navigates the growing pains of adulthood in new EP, Leaving Home

8/18/2022 06:28:00 AM

Filipino alternative pop band Any Names Okay has finally dropped their much-awaited sophomore EP, Leaving Home via Sony Music Philippines. Taking a huge step forward in terms of musical and creative direction, the 6-track release digs deeper into the journey of navigating adulthood and embracing the uncertainty that comes with the process.

“As a band, we’re maturing in our songwriting and the way that we operate as creatives,” shares the five-piece outfit. “We want to grow old with our listeners—which can be scary, but very exciting. A lot of those fears and joys can be found in this collection of songs.”

Lyrically, the band’s new EP, Leaving Home expands on introspective and existential themes—sometimes rendered in emotionally blunt details, but most of the time, exhibiting some of the growing pains that one has to go through in their transitional period towards maturity. The promising newcomer explains, “We’ve all been through the wringer the last few years, and this was a much-needed emotional release for everyone. We believe that a thorough listen of the EP, however, still shows that same heart, energy, and sincerity that people have come to know of us.”

Its focus track “Takbo” is one of the standout cuts in the EP as it tackles breaking free from the socio-economic fatigue that is burnout and hustle culture. According to the band, the song is all about running for running’s sake: playing with the imagery of aching muscles and exhausting activities, with its destination and goal to no avail. “While the song is an ode to the tired and tireless self, the reprise that it ends with is dedicated to hope— the hope that this is all for something, that you grow stronger the more you run,” Any Name’s Okay points out.

The release of the song comes with a visual that encapsulates the feeling of weightlessness in all that running. Helmed by Miko Reyes, the music video depicts “a person floating in and out of their world.”

The Yugto band adds, “Familiar to a lot of us, we can feel lost even in the happiest of places. Similar to the track itself, the end shows that there is a point to all the running; it just takes a bit of time to recognize it.”

Leaving Home is written and produced by Any Name’s Okay themselves, but with the help of their long-time pal, Luigi Del Rosario for one of their singles, “Limbo.” Frequent collaborator Tim Recla and Nick Azurin also mixed and mastered all the songs in the EP, respectively, giving it a more gossamer-sounding vibe.

Leaving Home Track list:
1.Yugto
2.Snooze
3.Limbo
4.Takbo
5.Today I Want To Live
6.Discovery

The EP launch happening on August 20, 2022 at Dirty Kitchen (Gravity Art Space), Quezon City is already sold out. But for those who would be joining the band as they perform the tracks from the EP live, you’re in for a treat.

“We’ve prepared some secret performances that you’ll just have to wait and see,” says Any Name’s Okay. “Showgoers will be getting first dibs on our brand-new merchandise, as well as get the chance to join our giveaways. We’re definitely doing our best to make the launch equally as exciting for everyone there!” Any Name’s Okay’s second EP, Leaving Home is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Philippines. Watch the music video of its focus track “Takbo” here.

Liwanag Is the Official Name of Ben&Ben Fandom

9/06/2020 06:27:00 AM

 Liwanag

The fame and existence of an artist is not just because of his or her works or artistry because of the people supporting the artist, these are the fans. Even the smallest artist in industry has its own fans that supports him or her all the way and because of them that artist does the best in every performance.

As for the band Ben&Ben, after considering the suggestions of their music fans and conducting a careful deliberation process with their management team, Ben&Ben have finally named their official fandom, “Liwanag.”  And would probably call their bashers and haters "Dilim."

The folk-pop outfit chose the Filipino equivalent of its previous fan club moniker, Lights as a reminder that “we can be bearers of hope in these dark times.”

The initiative also celebrates the community’s unwavering bayanihan spirit and optimism to advocate for meaningful change and unity through music, despite the challenges that the nation is currently facing.

Below is the official statement:

"Liwanag" is the new, official fandom name of Ben&Ben! We have heard your suggestions. We want to honor our Filipino heritage, at higit sa lahat, kayo ang Liwanag namin. #BenAndBenLiwanagFandom."

6cyclemind and Sony Music PH ink covers project

3/22/2020 06:32:00 AM

Another interesting musical project from one of the known band in the country, 6cyclemind, will be doing their best and effort to show appreciation to the fans who have been through their musical journey, 6cyclemind recently teamed up with Sony Music Philippines for Sige I-Cover Mo Lang Project.

The initiative, which was supposed to be an independent project, encouraged fans to submit covers of their favorite songs from the band’s catalog.

“Throughout our career, we have been touring different parts of the country,” vocalist Tutti Caringal said. “We are lucky to witness how our audience, even from far flung areas, sing our songs with us. This is indeed a very magical feeling. Online, we can also view our fans cover our songs. This makes us feel that, somehow, through our music, we have touched their lives. This is the reason why we have decided to do this project.”

With number one singles, best-selling albums, and sold-out shows, 6cyclemind continues to gain foothold in the local music industry. Their latest project is a testament to their growing and respectable discography, a proof of their legacy as a band known for their heartfelt and rousing anthems.

Fan involvement

The five-piece pop-rock act did not set some specific criteria for the fan submissions, and accepted all entries—whether phone recordings, changed tempo or genre.

6cyclemind lead guitarist Herbert Hernandez added, “We gave them the freedom to interpret the song of their choice. While screening the entries, we followed our gut feel and looked for the cover that will move us. There were many entries that we really liked. It was difficult for the band to eliminate the other submissions because we had to limit it to just 3. Part 2, perhaps?”

2020 version of “Biglaan”

From the pool of submissions, Bianca’s stripped-down version of “Biglaan” stood out the most. It earned a spot as one of the first among the three winners of the all-covers record. “Whenever I want to cover songs, I usually just search for the chords and let myself feel the music,” the budding artist said. “I was pretty melancholic during these times so my general approach was to make the song softer and downcast which is what I usually do to songs I usually sing.”

According to Bianca, the project “was such a great platform to thank the band’s fans and also give opportunities to artists” like her.

The sixteen-year-old singer-songwriter recorded the song at Backdoor Recording Studio, and it was produced by 6cyclemind.

Bianca’s rendition of “Biglaan” is now available on various music streaming/download platforms worldwide.

Fool by Upcoming Singapore Electro-pop/R&B Band In The Now Releases Their Debut un Umami Records

2/29/2020 02:52:00 AM

It's always great to watch out for something new and something different. With music there are plenty of possibilities to hear new and outstanding music.  Now we're sharing one news about this upcoming Singapore Electro-pop/ R&B band called "IN THE NOW." Yes, I know it's quite unusual to have a name like that but hey that's what they choose. Anyway and accordingly, they just freshly released their Debut song entitled "Fool". So, read on and get to know the band.

“Fool” is a song about unrequited love, where our hero is in denial, constantly clinging to the hope that one day the subject of his infatuation will change her mind, even though he knows he should move on. Layers of dark melancholic synths and dreamy electronic pads build into a heartfelt chorus, and when words are not enough, culminates in an unexpected drop. Topped off with a sprinkling of trap and future bass elements, the innovative production on this cleverly crafted track entices the ears with something special.

“I wrote this song hoping it would touch others who relate to the same heartbreak I felt”, shares Alex of IN THE NOW. “We wanted the song to sound really different from what we normally do”, said Dan, the producer of the group, “we experimented with many different versions of the drop before we got something we were all happy with, bringing together the right amount of contrast and energetic release.”

A music video directed and produced by Singapore creative collective YungTauFoo and Homies accompanies the release of this single.

IN THE NOW are four teenage friends and schoolmates from Singapore comprised of producer and vocalist Dan Rafael, and vocalists Akmal Hussein, Rahmat Damansari and Alex Gryffin. They are currently working on an EP of 6 songs to be released in 2020, written and produced by themselves, whilst also completing their tertiary education.

“Fool” by IN THE NOW will be available everywhere from Friday, 28 February 2020 (and for pre-save before) at this link: https://ffm.to/in-the-now-fool
