This coming Christmas Day, theaters will be filled with happy kids, excited moms and thrilled dads as the Metro Manila Film Festival 2019 (MMFF 2019) shows 8 different Pinoy movies entries from different movie production to the annual film festival.

This is the year where Filipinos spend time with their families through a Pinoy movie experience.

So, what are these movies that we expect to watch this holiday season? Here are the following movies with a bit of info to let you decide which one to watch or which one to watch first.


THE MALL THE MERRIER 

This is a comedy film starred by the unkabogable comedian and TV host Vice Ganda together with Anne Curtis. Produced under Star Cinema and Viva Films, helmed by Barry Gonzales. The story is about these two siblings, Moira played by Vice Ganda and Morisette portrayed by Anne Curtis, feud over the mall that they inherited that is called Tamol Mall. Their quarrel is compounded with the arrival of their relative, Tita Moody and the story continues.

Other casts of the movie are Dimples Romana, Tony Labrusca, Elisse Joson, Jameson Blake, Lassy Marquez, MC Calaquian, Brenda Mage, Wacky Kiray, Chad Kinis, Ion Perez, Jackie Gonzaga and more.



MISSION UNSTAPABOL: THE DON IDENTITY

Another comedy film from the MMFF veteran Vic Sotto and Maine Mendoza. The film is directed by Linnet Zurbano under APT Entertainment and MZET TV Productions. The story revolves around the exploits of Don Robert Fortun, which is played by Vic Sotto, who forms a group to clear his name after he was accused of a crime and to retrieve a valuable pearl, the Pearl of the Orient, from his brother Benjie portrayed by Jose Manalo.

Also starred by Pokwang, Wally Bayola, Jake Cuenca, and Tonton Gutierrez among others.


SUNOD

MMFF would not be complete without a horror film. So, in this film genre a film under TEN17P was added to the list, Sunod. The movie is directed by Carlo Ledesma.

Cast members are Carmina Villaroel, Mylene Dizon, susan Africa, and Kate Alejandrino.


MIRACLE IN CELL NO. 7

Probably this is one of the much-anticipated film among the list as it is a remake of a Korean hit film. The movie stars Aga Muhlach and Bella Padilla. The original film is a multi-awarded Korean drama comedy film which was released in 2013. It follows the story of Yong-gu, a mentally challenged single father who was wrongfully accused and imprisoned for the murder of a young girl. Aga Muhlach plays the role of the mentally challenged single father. The movie is under Viva Films and directed by Noel C. Naval.

Other casts of the film are Bella Padilla, Xia Vigor, Joel Torre, JC Santos, Mon Confiado, Jojit Lorenzo, Soliman Cruz, John Arcilla, Tirso Cruz III, Ronnie Lazaro, Yayo Aguila, and more.


MINDANAO

Another film that falls in the drama genre and will definitely pinch your heart as you watch the movie. Produced and directed by Brillante Ma Mendoza. The story is about a Muslim family living in Mindanao. Saima played by Judy Ann Santos, is a mother of a cancer-stricken kid and the wife of a medic deployed in a conflict of aggression in southern Philippines - Mindanao. What makes this movie different is that it is mixed with a story telling animation about the legenday brother Raja and Sulayman fighting a dragon, which definitely symbolizes the reality of life.

Other cast in this film is Allen Dizon, Yuna Tangog, and Ketchup Eusebio.  


WRITE ABOUT LOVE

It's a love story under TBA Studios that tells the story about a young female writer portrayed by Miles Ocampo teaming up with one of the seasoned male writer played by Rocco Nacino in order to finish a love story stuck as work in progress. The characters in the story are played by Joem Bascon and Yeng Constantino. The film is a directorial debut of Crisanto Aquino.


3POL TROBOL: HULI KA BALBON

An action comedy film directed by Coco Martin himself under CCM Productions. The movie is about a cop who is out to prove his innocence after he was framed for the murder of his boss. Joining Coco Martin in this film are Jennylyn Mercado, Ai-Ai Delas Alas, and Sam Milby.


CULION

Another eye-opener film that brings a story not just to entertainment but to inform as well. This film is written by Ricky Lee and is directed by Alvin Yapan under iOptions Productions. It follows the story of three women seeking a cure for the dreaded disease leprosy.

Led by Iza Calzado, Meryll Soriano and Jasmine Curtis-Smith with a specie appearance of John Lloyd Cruz.

Ion Perez 'nagtampo' with Vice Ganda? Why?

We have seen how the relationship of Ion Perez and Vice Ganda progress through time. And the madlang people watching the noontime TV Show, It's Showtime, are the witness of that love story. They have this non-verbal communications that entices people to follow what's the story behind.

In one of the press conference, Vice Ganda shared that she's happy with her present situation.  She openly shared "Masaya ang puso ko, in love ako…. kasi marami akong nagugustuhang iba pero parang di naman ako nai-inlove  at maraming nagbago kasi this time yong taong in love ako mahal nya ko…. ngayon masaya kasi yong pinili ko pinili din ako."

Without any particular with the names we all know that she's referring to Ion Perez.

Why did we come to a speculation that Ion Perez feels bad with Vice Ganda, well, there's one answer of Vice during the conference that probably made Ion feel bad or 'nagtampo' with Vice, it's the time that Ion asked Vice with the big WHY? Why couldn't they show and express their love for each other in public?


Here's what Vice said in the conference, "....nung nagtanong siya kung bakit hindi pwedeng sabihin…. yong tungkol sa 'ming dalawa. I'm not an actor and not even a very known movie critic but I'm just a blogger who loves movies and series very much. I'm not very keen on remembering the names of the stars and directors, but when heard of the movie title or a plot of the story that gives me the idea of what it is or what it was. I like seeing artists create effective different characters or different personas. Knowing how they were able to do that is something that ordinary people or fans would love to know. Me, I'm really eager to know their process on how they do it.

One of the best parts of being an entertainment blogger is that you get to come to press conferences and interviews that are somehow exclusive. Glad that I, together with some other bloggers, were scheduled to have an interview with one of the interesting actors from the Kapamilya Network, Arjo Atayde. So, it's a great opportunity to ask the question that has been lingering in my head.

How does an actor like Arjo Atayde be able to create an effective role without seeing any traces of nuances and other personalities in his previous characters, knowing that he moves from one teleserye to another? This is my piece that I was able to ask from Arjo and he gladly gave his reply.

So here are some of the points that he does to make sure that the nuances and personalities of the previous roles he played are not be seen in his current character and how he does his acting so good.

1. He doesn't watch himself on the monitor or doesn't watch the preview during the shooting.
2. He tries to remember the established nuances of the character that he plays and he does that after watching the pilot episodes.
3. He firmly holds on to the character together with the nuances and personalities throughout the season of the teleserye.
4. He doesn't read the script and watch himself through the monitor during the shoot. He watches everything after and tries to learn his mistakes.
5. He studies and tries to have a deeper understanding not only himself, his character, but everyone around him.

In the new season of Bagman, Arjo Atayde continuously plays the character of Benjo Malaya. Still, a bagman but this time it comes with a different level of being a bagman, it now comes with power, being the governor of the province. From 'barbero' to 'politiko'. This is one good example of Arjo's transition of characters. Though the character that he plays is the same, it somehow changes in appearance and personality. From a barber with less knowledge about politics to a governor that stirs everyone possible loopholes in the government system just to make a project be done.

Arjo, having no knowledge about how politicians or politics go around made an interesting portrayal of a governor that rose from the lower class of the government to a more honorable and respectable politician.

If he has convinced you with his character Benjo Malaya then you'll probably be more hooked on his new personality.

Like I mentioned earlier I'm not a good reviewer or critic but I find Bagman comparable with the series in that are flourishing online. It's dark, interesting, eye-opener, and something to be proud of, not only with Arjo but with the whole casts of Bagman. It wouldn't be a good series if it wasn't for the actors who played their characters very well. Like what Arjo said in the interview, he doesn't only study his character but also the characters of his co-actors in order to understand deeply their roles.

In a recent event held in New Clark City in Pampanga, one of the celebrities and an advocate of sports, Robin Padilla, made one of the Philippine athletes very much happy. Giving away the rubber shoes he's wearing on the spot. He undoubtingly gave away that rubber shoes and walked around the stadium wearing his socks. We don't have the details of their discussion about why Robin gave his rubber shoes to that particular athlete but what we know is that all the athletes will receive that very same comfortable shoes that they'll be wearing during practice and on the SEA Games event. These athletes will be competing in the upcoming Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games). They are training hard and using the new facilities created inside the New Clark City like the Aquatic Center and the Athletics Stadium, world-class facilities that will be used in the SEA Games.

Janine Gutierrez stars in this film and plays the role of a saleslady in a local department store, where her everyday life is composed of an exhausting commute home and add up a manager who always seems to have something to say about her physical state. When she finally gets home, there's no one there but her roommate who couldn't care less about her. A life that is common in the working class.


Her life changes when she finds a peculiar looking gun right on her doorstep. She felt a surge of power holding and carrying the gun. Giving her a boost that she can do anything she wants, talk back to whomever she wants, and even hurt anyone she wants.

Babae at Baril is your typical and common story in the lower class of the society where every individual works hard to survive. The story of the film is the usual but it delivers a more powerful voice to its audience, women or any individual whenever empower can do things beyond what they are capable of but let us not forget that too much power is sometimes poison. The oppressed sometimes takes control and turns to be the oppressor.

Mark becomes Elaisa’s friend, She confides and feels at ease around him, and eventually starts to fall for him. Things are finally starting to get better for Elaisa because of Mark, until a mystery comes along, it appears that nobody recognizes Mark but Elaisa.

Set in the arctic landscapes of Greenland, the location of the movie perfectly parallels with its theme --- dark, cold, mysterious.

Nuuk is the first Filipino movie shot in Greenland, it was also produced in cooperation with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark, the one who governs over Greenland. This is also the reunion movie of Aga Muhlach and Alice Dixson or the “AlGa” love team, after doing several movies together during the early 90s.

From the same director of the heart-breaking romantic-comedy set in Iceland, “Through Night and Day” (2018), starring Paolo Contis and Alessandra De Rossi, FAMAS and Gawad Urian nominee Veronica “Roni” Velasco presents a very interesting and intriguing story.

“Nuuk” opens in cinemas this November 6, 2019.
