Ricky Lee Shares the Secrets and Journey Behind Storytelling in iWANT TFC’S “TRIP TO QUIAPO”

12:17:00 AM

Sometimes things are given because it should be, it
is a talent that is to be shared with others. In this story, award-winning writer Ricky Lee helps writers and aspiring writers jumpstart their story ideas by detailing the process of storytelling – from the conceptualization to the final draft – in the iWant TFC original docu-series “Trip to Quiapo,” based on his best-selling scriptwriting manual. It starts streaming on the iWant TFC app and website on October 21.

Shot like a reality show, it is a five-episode master class where Ricky shares his knowledge about how to build stories, where to draw inspiration for them, and meaningful lessons from his life and over 40 years in the industry. “Trip to Quiapo” is directed by Treb Monteras, who co-wrote and directed the Cinemalaya 2017 Best Film “Respeto.”

Enchong Dee is also featured in the series as Julio Manunulat, the representation of aspiring writers and storytellers who are struggling to put into words the ideas they have in mind, similar to how Ricky began his writing journey.

“Nung baguhang writer ako, hindi ko alam kung paano magsisimula. Marami akong pinagdaanan at pagkakamali bago ako natuto. At hanggang sa ngayon, natututo pa rin. At ngayon para sa inyong mga gustong matutong magkwento, susubukin kong ibahagi sa inyo ang mga karanasan at kaalaman ko matapos ang ilang dekadang pagsusulat. Pero ang actual na pagsusulat, baka hindi lahat matutunan dito dahil buhay ang gagawa nun,” shares Ricky.

Aside from discussions, the series is also accompanied by cinematic visual storytelling of his life, how his passion for writing began, and why he intends to share his knowledge of storytelling with others.

As an adopted child who lost his parents at an early age, Ricky reveals that he had always felt like an outcast but was able to find refuge in a small library in Daet, Camarines Norte where he would spend countless hours reading books and eventually, where his passion for storytelling developed.

Stories connected me to the world.”

“So I want to do it to other people also. Gusto kong gumawa ng mga pelikula na ‘pag naupo sila sa front row, mababago ko ang buhay nila kahit for two hours lang,” he adds.

Ricky also shares in the iWant TFC series the three types of writers and their different approaches to learning how to write – or go to Quiapo. As a child, he would read a lot about Quiapo, his dream destination that would become a symbol of his dreams.

“Para sa isang batang katulad ko, isang malaking katuparan ang Quiapo. Kaya noong nagsusulat na ako, Quiapo ang simbolo ng katuparan ng pangarap kong makagawa ng mahuhsay at matagumpay na script. At ‘yun ang gustong puntahan ng tatlong klase ng writers – ‘yun ang Quiapo.”

Sharing the 7 Reasons Why iWant’s Psycho-Horror Movie “ABANDONED” is Worth A Kwento

10:57:00 AM

Okay, it's October already and we all know what happens before the end of the month. So if you're in and ready to get spooked? Well, here's one that will turn your dreams into nightmares?

You can watch this at home and save the horror and dreaded traffic in the metro. Plus you can even save some for the rainy days. What's good is that you can enjoy the movie under the cuddle weather, with just a tap or a click on your phones and gadgets at home, you get a full movie experience with iWant’s chilling story of a mother and a son trapped in a life of haunting spirits in the psycho-horror movie “Abandoned,” an iWant original movie that you can stream for free! Flip the switch off and grab bae for this one. It’s gonna be a frightening ride.

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD

Here are seven reasons why “Abandoned” deserves your time and attention:

1. Its short running time For only an hour and 15 minutes, viewers get to witness a story of love and resilience in a horror setting in the Kip Oebanda film where dedicated mother and son look out for each other in the midst of bullies, evil spirits, lurking shadows of the past. Set in an eerie location where one should roam at midnight and 3 in the morning alone, get ready to get spooked with disturbing scenes and ending that will leave you bewildered. Ready your blanket. Expect jumpscares.

2. Beauty takes on her first horror role From her kindhearted mother roles, Beauty expands her acting repertoire as she plays the complex Simone, the single mother of RJ (played by Seth) who is struggling to find a job after a traumatic experience during her previous one. Simone is a far cry from the glamorous Romina Mondragon as Beauty portrays a dedicated yet mentally unstable woman, plagued by the ghosts of an old building.

3. It’s Seth’s first movie project Without his Gold Squad co-members by his side, Seth can stand on his own and is ready to prove his place in the industry with his first movie and leading role. Seth’s RJ in “Abandoned” is amusing and mischievous, adding a charming layer to the otherwise chilling film that draws its scares from unresolved personal traumas.

4. Its symbolisms make it not your typical white lady horror movie The title itself gives meaning to a lot of scenes in the movie. “Abandoned” isn’t just about the haunted building and its supernatural elements, but how her spooky workplace provokes Simone’s deepest and darkest fear – abandonment – which she has dealt with all her life.

5. It depicts how patriarchy trumps women on a daily basis. Simone’s predicament starts when her boss Soliman (another symbolism) “handpicks” her for the unusual job, and all the while their security firm’s logo represents manhood and the fires of hell. Her cocky colleague Renante won’t trade shifts with her, and a loan shark tries to take advantage of her financial instability.

It is also revealed that Simone’s father originally wanted a son, thus, her untypical name and painful childhood.

6. It shows how a mother’s love overcomes all difficulties. Simone’s ex-husband was also a domestic abuser, causing her to leave and raise RJ The film shows a mother’s unconditional love for her son—from borrowing money, looking for jobs she’s incapable of, throwing a birthday celebration, warding off evil spirits, and even literally sacrificing herself in place of her son. A mother’s love never yields.

7. It encourages us to check up on our own moms. Our moms always look like they got it all together, but who takes care of them when they have no one to run to? In the movie, RJ reveals he has been skipping school to secretly help his mom financially by buying and selling things online and even defending her name from bullies in school. It was RJ all along that kept her going. Looking back, he always has been Simone’s source of strength. And although our mothers seem like they can handle everything, it wouldn’t hurt to check up on them and give them a warm hug every once in a while.

Stream “Abandoned” on the iWant app (iOs and Android) or on iwant.ph for free. For updates, like www.facebook.com/iWant, and follow @iwant on Twitter and @iwantofficial and @dreamscapedigital on Instagram, and subscribe to www.youtube.com/iWantPH.

Kwentong GCash Send, A No More Sneaking Out Tactics From Work

4:01:00 PM

As of the moment I'm out of the corporate world and I'm doing my freelance thing but looking back when I was still in the industry, it was really hard squeezing in some personal errands during lunchtime. So, ending I sometimes sneak out just to accomplish those errands but of course, it's not often. Who doesn't does the sneak out thing?

Sometimes bank trips are eating up your entire lunchtime, especially when lines are crazy long. But most of the time is that you don't have a choice because you need to send money or pay your bills at that time to avoid the hassle.  It may sound simple but for me who works exactly the same time with the banks, it's really impossible.

Of course, that was before and it gives a little bit of guilt feeling that sometimes you have taken some few minutes from your working hours just to make that transaction. Now that I'm a freelancer and since most of my works are done at home it's easy and much easier with GCash because I don't have to brave the traffic just to get those bills and errands to work with.

GCash is an app that allows me to send money with just a few taps on my smartphone anytime, anywhere for free. With GCash, I have one less errand to do, and extra minutes for something I enjoy, play with my kids.

GCash has over 30 bank partners so transferring money between your GCash account and any bank account is hassle-free. The entire process—from cashing in your GCash wallet to moving money to another account—takes less than 10 minutes, a big respite from the hours lost waiting in long lines at banks. I can even do it in between bites over lunch, or in between emails or meetings at work (admit it, you spend those in-betweens at work on Facebook or Instagram, anyway—it won’t hurt to be more productive and do your errands from your phone)

What I like most about this mobile wallet platform is that it’s not exclusive to Globe users. GCash is available on all networks, including Smart, TNT, Sun, ABS-Mobile and Cherry Mobile.

Aside from its money-sending features, GCash also allows you to settle utility bills with just a few taps on your phone. Now, I don’t have to go to payment centers for my electric, internet, cable and phone bills. I can settle them all through my GCash app in the comfort of my home after a long day at work. No more sneaking out during work hours for trips to the bank or payment centers!

Also here's another news from Jollibee and you still have time to go to your nearest Jollibee store and treat your grandparents. Directed by Sheron Dayoc, “Garapon” narrates the story of how a grandmother sets aside any amount she can just to give her grandson something that would make him happy.

“For Filipinos, grandparents are the treasures of the family. While they may sometimes appear as strict, they give us exceptional love and guidance in such a way parents simply can’t. This is something that the younger generations can learn to appreciate from their lolos and lolas,” said Francis Flores, Jollibee Global Brand Chief Marketing Officer and Jollibee Philippines Marketing Head.

Kwentong Jollibee Valentine Series 2018 Hits The Internet Wave

11:08:00 PM
Perhaps it has become a tradition for the one of the leading fastfood chain in the Philippines of having a series of stories during Valentine's Day. I remember I was there also when they launched their 2017 Valentine's Series. This year, the now viral #KwentongJollibee2018 Valentine Series videos have once again captured the hearts of many and took the internet by storm, with 4.5M views for “Homecoming,” 9.2M views for “Signs,” and 4.2M for “Status.” The three new Kwentong Jollibee episodes aim to impart valuable love lessons through beautifully told stories anchored on powerful truths on love.
In an exclusive screening and meet & greet with the entire cast and directors at the Ayala Malls The 30th, the media got a closer and more meaningful look at the love stories that inspired this year’s batch of #KwentongJollibee2018 Valentine videos which encourages people to believe in the power of love. The cast and director of each video shared wonderful insights and hugot lines that inspired them to bring the stories and characters to life on the digital screen.

“Every Valentine’s Day, the brand wants everyone to embrace and feel love with real-life stories from #KwentongJollibee. And this year, the Valentine series returns with episodes that celebrate the power of love in different ways,” shares Jollibee Global Brand Chief Marketing Officer and PH Marketing Head Francis Flores.

Believing in the power of love Following last year’s favorite “Crush”, “Homecoming” tells the story of Gilbert and Ruth, and proves how never giving up can lead to a lifetime of bliss and love. Directed once again by Joel Ruiz, it follows the couple on the night of their college reunion as they reminisce about how love blossomed between them through sweet gestures and kilig love notes on their favorite Jollibee Cheesy Yumburger.

Signs” explores the life of Star, a hopeless romantic who believes that signs will help her find her true love. Directed by blockbuster movie director Ted Boborol, the story takes viewers to a romantic journey as the universe seemed to align and point to Star’s classmate, Mark. It then unravels to a pleasantly romantic twist as Star realizes that while the signs have been wrong, true love eventually found her in the person of her friend Joms.

Director Ianco dela Cruz also returns with an inspiring tale that shows how love is always present with people who truly care for you. “Status” follows Kat and her journey to realization that the true love she was looking for has been with her family all along.

Netizens took to Facebook and Twitter to express their feelings:

One user said of “Homecoming,” “Do not settle for someone because of his physical attributes or his financial status. Fall for someone who never gets tired of saving you from your own chaos.”

A comment from the “Signs” episode said “Ang galing naman! Ang tagal ko nang hindi kinikilig ah, ngayon na lang ulit. Relate much ako dun sa mga signs. Kudos, Jollibee!”

“This kind of love is the purest of all. Kaya ‘di natin kelangan maghanap ng true love. It will come at the right time, in the right place, unexpectedly” posted another netizen.

Watch and share the three #KwentongJollibee shorts on Jollibee’s YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/jollibeedigital1) or on Jollibee’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/JollibeePhilippines).
