Paolo Avelino and Charlie Dizon reunite on the music video of Zack Tabudlo’s “Hindi Ko Kaya”

7/16/2021 09:05:00 PM

Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) best actress Charlie Dizon and 4th EDDYS best actor Paolo Avelino reunite with acclaimed filmmaker Antoinette Jadaone on the music video of Zack Tabudlo’s “Hindi Ko Kaya.”

The two have worked with Jadaone on the breakout drama, Fan Girl, which premiered in Japan at the 33rd Tokyo International Film Festival last year, and swept the awards of last year’s Metro Manila Film Festival 2020, including Best Picture and Best Director, and acting nods for both of its leads.

As experts in helming coming-of-age narratives that feature the realistic portrayal of romantic relationships, Jadaone, and her team Project 8, deliver a contemplative material that speaks as much to the mind as to the heart. The end result is a lovely but melancholic piece of work that not only complements the song’s lyrical foundations but also arrives as a stand-alone achievement in filmmaking, partly because of its captivating storytelling and heartfelt sentimentality.

“It was such an honor working with another legend,” says Zack Tabudlo. “Direk Dan Villegas which is the director of Binibini and also her boyfriend, works with the same production team so the similarity of the environment is there.” Poised to be another smash in the vein of “Binibini” music video, which has amassed more than 20 million views on YouTube and was directed by Jadaone’s partner Dan Villegas, “Hindi Ko Kaya” follows the tradition of Zack Tabudlo’s songs being hailed as modern-day anthems that reflect this generation’s collective sentiments through visual and emotional terms. The music video of Zack Tabudlo’s “Hindi Ko Kaya” is now available on YouTube.

About Zack Tabudlo
Zack Tabudlo is an alternative-pop RnB artist from Manila Philippines, signed under Island Records Philippines. He hit the ground running when he began his music career, becoming a finalist for reality talent show Talentadong Pinoy at the age of 10 but he is very well known as a contestant under Team Bamboo in The Voice Kids Season 1.

Among his influences are contemporary pop chart-toppers Charlie Puth, Harry Styles, and Island Records label-mate Shawn Mendes. But with all these influences, Zack approaches the genre of pop with his own distinct approach. His artistry can be characterized as a tasteful blend of R&B, soft rock, funk and vocally driven pop.

With a slew of catchy singles under his belt, all leading up to what’s looking to be a promising full-length in the future, the young musician is gaining momentum. His hustle may have been riding below the radar, but one can expect 2021 to be Zack’s year. To date, Zack’s latest single ‘Binibini’ has topped both the Spotify and YouTube trending charts for more than a month, and also breaking through Spotify Global Viral, several Spotify viral charts in Asia-Pacific countries including Canada and New Zealand - making Binibini one of the biggest songs of 2021 so far. His other track ‘Nangangamba,’ which was released in 2020, also peaked at No.1 on both Spotify Global Viral 50 and Philippines Viral 50

Have You Heard Makki Lucino's Rendition of "She Used To Be Mine?"

7/14/2021 07:23:00 AM

If you haven't heard how Makki Lucino's rendition of "She Used To Be Mine," well, get your fingers working and find out what's interesting about Makki's rendition.

“Tawag ng Tanghalan” Season 4 grand finalist Makki Lucino gives a new meaning to the emotional ballad “She Used to Be Mine,” as she releases her own rendition of the song under Star Music.

“We want it to serve as a reminder to everyone not to be afraid of change, to always celebrate life, and to embrace one’s journey,” said Makki, who initially performed the song while competing in “Tawag ng Tanghalan.”

“Kinanta ko po siya sa ‘Tawag Ng Tanghalan’ bago makapasok ng top 6, 'yung feedback po ay na-touch 'yung mga tao, naiyak sila. 'Yun po 'yung maganda, na I was able to touch other people's hearts,” she added.

Dubbed as the “Queer of Soul,” Makki aims to represent the LGBTQ+ community and inspire Filipinos through her heartfelt performances and music releases—starting with “She Used to Be Mine.”

Written and composed by American singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles for the musical “Waitress,” the track reflects the disconnection one feels between her past and present self, and who she might have become if her circumstances had been different.

Meanwhile after her journey on “Tawag ng Tanghalan,” Makki has also ventured into livestreaming on kumu via “Queer of Soul” on the SeenZone channel (@seenzonechannel) and guestings on FYE Channel and MYX.

Stream Makki’s version of “She Used to Be Mine,” out now on various digital music streaming services. For more details, like Star Music on Facebook (www.facebook.com/starmusicph) and follow it on Twitter and Instagram (@StarMusicPH).

Charlie Portrays A Different Character in iWantTFC's "My Sunset Girl"

7/13/2021 10:05:00 PM

After becoming a household name for her award-winning role in the movie “Fan Girl,” Charlie Dizon is playing another fearless character in her latest project – a hopeless romantic searching for true love, even if it kills her.

Charlie refuses to let a deadly illness hold her back as she unexpectedly falls in love for the first time with Jameson Blake in the iWantTFC original series ”My Sunset Girl,” which streams worldwide this July 14.

Here, Charlie plays Ciara, a free-spirited young lady who defies her circumstances in pursuit of love and happiness. She suffers from xeroderma pigmentosum, an illness that could turn deadly if she is exposed to sunlight for a long period of time. As a result, Ciara is unable to travel the world but she makes up for this by watching travel vlogs and making friends online.

Despite her rare condition, Ciara believes that she is still capable of falling in love and believes that she will find the right person who will love her back.

Ciara then comes across and develops a deep bond with Lucas (Jameson), a travel enthusiast just like her who promises to help her accomplish all her goals in her travel bucket list.

But as the two start to get closer, Ciara realizes that it is not only her sickness that will hinder her from meeting up with Lucas. Her strict mother Melissa (Mylene Dizon) will prevent them from seeing each other and will even go as far as confronting Lucas to stay away from her daughter.

However, Ciara does not know that Lucas maliciously planned and manipulated her into falling in love with him so that he could help execute his father Elias’ (Joem Bascon) evil intentions.

Why does Elias want to get revenge on Ciara’s family? What will happen when Ciara and Lucas’ love for one another actually becomes real and unconditional?

Co-produced by Dreamscape Entertainment and All Blacks Media, the iWantTFC original series is directed by Andoy Ranay and also stars Lance Reblando, Ana Abad Santos, Jun Jun Quintana, Frances Makil-Ignacio, and Jonathan Tadioan.

5 Things to Watch Out To Prevent Heart Problem

7/11/2021 02:25:00 PM

The Philippine Heart Association (PHA) recently held its 10th edition of "Usapang Puso sa Puso" (Heart to Heart Talk). It is one of the many informative programs of the association where people can watch and learn. In this edition, the program discusses the heart health of our fathers, thus, titled "Puso Ni Daddy Sintigas pa ba ng Haligi?" Aside from the discussion, it also aims to educate people entirely about heart issues and problems. Experts also share their insights and practices on how to prevent having heart problems. Panelists from different expertise were present to share their knowledge about the subject matter, namely, Dr. Jorge Sison, Dr. Badette Arevalo, and Dr. Benjamin Quito. Mayor Richard Gomez, an advocate of CPR, is also part of the panel but was on official business.

There were questions relating to heart problems were raised in the program, and our panel of experts addressed them accordingly. Aside from their insights about the subject matter, they were also generous enough to share some of the practices they believe can help prevent heart problems.

What interests me more was the ways to know or detect symptoms or changes in our body that contributes to developing heart problems or if we're having problems already with our heart. So, what are the things to watch out for us to know if we're at risk of having a heart problem or already experiencing a heart problem?
  • 1. If you're having difficulty breathing with a few activities.
  • 2. Sudden unexplained pain in the chest.
  • 3. Obesity, Dad bod, or abdominal obesity can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.
  • 4. Inactivity or no physical activity.
  • 5. If with vices like cigarette smoking and drinking. According to Dr. Sison, men are more prone to cardiovascular diseases.
This list is just some of the many things to watch out for to prevent having cardiovascular disease. So, if you're experiencing some of these, maybe it's about time for you to visit your friendly neighborhood doctor for a check-up.

PHA always has programs for the public to give awareness about cardiovascular diseases and how to prevent it. It is the organization's way of helping out in every possible way. So, if you want to know more about its plans and activities, you can visit their website Philippine Heart Association (philheart.org), or their Facebook page Philippine HEART Association

Itchyworms Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary with the Release of stop-motion animation film, “The Life I Know”

7/07/2021 10:59:00 PM

Another icon in the music industry reached its 25th anniversary. Iconic pop-rock outfit The Itchyworms kick off their 25th anniversary in the music industry with the official video release of “The Life I Know,” a piano-backed ballad off their fifth studio album, Waiting For The End To Start—released on digital music platforms via Sony Music Philippines.

Helmed by partners Marie Jamora and Jason McLagan of Indie Pop Films with animation from Apartment D, the music video is a first of its kind in the Philippines to feature a stop-motion animation format that is embedded with Filipino cultural sensibilities.

The journey of Awit

According to award-winning filmmaker Marie Jamora, the music video follows the story of Awit, a toddler who begins to understand her place in the world as she gets more independent from her mom. Tension arises when an incoming new sibling threatens to take the place that was once her own comfort space. Marie Jamora adds, “with this spiritual quest, Awit realizes that she needs to accept her new baby brother in order to reconnect once again with her mother.”

“Being a new mother myself and remembering the experience of having a baby in my own womb, I always wondered what was going on inside, whether there was a different universe that my baby lived in,” says Jamora. “This all inspired and informed me for our video. I don’t think I would have ever thought of this concept if I didn’t go through this experience.”

Director of animation Cami Kwan is proud of how important the film is in documenting the universal experience of growing up, and relates the concept to how a child starts to lose the world they’ve known, and navigate a new realm that is both uncomfortable and terrifying but is part of a bigger life process. “There is a beauty and awe in embracing a wider world, of seeing beyond yourself, but there is an inherent loss in that as well, and we wanted to explore that sense of melancholy as well as that sense of power and joy.”

Trusted collaborator

Having worked with The Itchyworms for so many years as a former manager and music director for their timeless hits “Antipara,” “Buwan,” and “Love Team,” Jamora is a trusted collaborator of the band who has maintained a formidable friendship with them through the years. Lead vocalist, drummer and all-around musician Jazz Nicolas explains that of all the directors they’ve collaborated with, Jamora is the one that knows them really well. “I fully trust her with making this video. I asked her to make us a music video and to choose any song from the album she wanted to work on. She chose The Life I Know. I trust that she would put her whole heart into it and come up with something awesome, as she always does.”

“Personally, I always thought that her talent is really for the international stage,” co-lead vocalist, guitarist, and multi-instrumentalist Jugs Jugueta speaks fondly of Jamora. “With this project, we hope The Itchyworms too, can reach an international audience.”

Dream Weaver

As for the visual execution of the music video, Cami Kwan was excited with the infinite possibilities of the stop-motion animation as it “brings real materials to life in a way that no other art form can.” In true Filipino fashion, Kwan reveals that the team has always wanted to celebrate the tradition of weaving that exists in the country, specifically the textures and patterns in the work of T'Boli Dream Weaver. “The Dream World is made entirely of these traditional woven fabrics, and the characters are all made out of wool and other weaving materials,” the animator points out. “This fundamentally links the characters to the Dream World, which we also designed to evoke the feeling and patterns of a womb. Dreams and wombs are safe spaces, where anything is possible and where life can be created from nothing.”

The music video release of “The Life I Know” is part of a campaign series that aims to champion the legacy of Jazz Nicolas, Jugs Jugueta, Kelvin Yu, and Chino Singson a.k.a. The Itchyworms as one of the definitive bands of our time, a true mark of an artist that continues to shape pop-culture consciousness for more than two decades and redefine Pinoy artistry with cross-generational classics. As part of the multiple celebrations that mark their existence for two decades and a half, The Itchyworms are also set to release the 25th anniversary single “Eto Na,” a music video to their title track “Waiting For The End To Start,” a mockumentary chronicling their official ‘untrue’ story and Worms Upon A Time podcast.

The music video of The Itchyworms’ “The Life I Know” will be out on the band’s Official YouTube Channel and WeTV at 7:00pm.

GG Truck, Southeast Asia's First pop-up Gaming Truck, Innovates Your Game Bonding Moment Happened in SM City Fairview

7/03/2021 07:35:00 AM

For gamers, GG means "good game," but because of the pandemic, GG changed its meaning to a new one, "go gaming." In the gaming scene, games, gatherings, conventions, and competitions are your usual activities. It happens almost everywhere, but because of the global incident, we get stuck in our houses. It's more fun playing with friends and even more exciting if crowds are cheering for you.

If we cannot convene and go to places for a fun gaming experience, so, GG Company created this idea of GG Truck where this truck goes to your community for a bit of fun and playing experience. Thus, "go gaming" comes because of the on-the-go truck for gaming. It is the first-ever pop-up gaming truck in Southeast Asia.

The vehicle is then converted to a mini stage with a widescreen 10ft x 6ft LED screen to see your game in a short, enjoyable competition. GG Truck also has a sound system to give users an immersive gaming experience. It also comes with free Wi-Fi with a range of up to 500 meters, so gamers can connect and interact in a tournament platform with their matches broadcast online.

Just right before Father's Day, I was able to at least experience competing, though the game I participated in was just a mini-game of a first-person 2D shooting game. You win if you get the highest score. Unfortunately, I got 3rd place. This concept made Father’s Day weekend extra fun at SM City Fairview with GAME DAY WITH DAD where dads and shoppers enjoyed playing mobile games using their phones.

It would be a great bonding experience. It is not only for Father and son but also for the whole family. Imagine if all in the family know how to play Mobile Legends Bang Bang, then it will be a good experience. You get to enjoy, get to bond with your family, and the best part is you get a chance to win as well.

Health and safety protocols including mandatory use of face masks and face shields, temperature checks, and frequent sanitation were strictly implemented to ensure the safety of everyone.

7/01/2021 06:33:00 AM

It is another momentous event for the Asia's Romantic Balladeer Christian Bautista, as he continues his journey in the entertainment industry and reaffirms his loyalty to the Kapuso Network by signing another exclusive contract.

Present during the virtual signing ceremony were Senior Vice President for GMA Entertainment Group Lilybeth G. Rasonable, First Vice President for Drama Productions Redgie A. Magno, First Vice President for Business Development Department III Darling De Jesus-Bodegon, First Vice President and Head of Regional TV and Synergy Oliver B. Christian was emotional in expressing his gratitude to GMA-7 for continuing to believe in his many talents throughout the years, “Everything that we’ve been through together from the beginning and up to now, just got me so emotional again. I’m just very thankful, through thick and thin, we have been together, we have done different shows and traveled the world together, having meals together, that’s such a big thing for me as well. The friendship among everyone, artists, our bosses, working together for a common goal.”

We also did ask Christian if he will still be a Kapuso Talent until his retirement age. His reply was as long as they believe in my talent and still want me to be their talent. Probably, will retire in the Kapuso Network.

One of the many affected industries affected by the pandemic is the entertainment industry. Just like many other individuals and businesses, Christian also learned to adapt to the situation. Physical performance has been a big challenge for performers that is why talents like Christian also did some major changes in their pre-pandemic routines, the digital world is their new avenue to share their performances. Now aside from all the social media available, Christian also does live streaming.

After hearing what Christian Bautista shared with all the bloggers, life is full of uncertain things but what makes it more exciting is the hope for the future.

With the renewal of his contract, Christian will be having another season of The Clash, so expect for it and many more projects to come.

Surviving The Pandemic with BAHALA NA!

6/30/2021 11:08:00 PM

It has been over a year now, and we're still in this pandemic. All are still uncertain until the vaccination is complete though there are still uncertainties we can only hope for the best.

The year in this pandemic has become a survivor series for me. I don't have a full-time job, and my only source of income for my family is blogging and content creation. Since the start of the pandemic, opportunities have become scarce. I'm always looking forward to those little projects that could at least bring food to the table. It has been like a daily task in the survivor series where participants need to win in the challenges to gain rewards. The difference is perhaps the extinguishing of light. If I lose, I can go home but in this pandemic, losing is not an option. But this doesn't stop me because I believe that my faith can pull me through. Work without faith is nothing, and faith without work is the same. As the saying goes, "Kapag may tiyaga, may nilaga! ([literal translation] when there is perseverance, there is stew.)"

Surviving with a grain of mustard seed

Our faith is one of the many driving factors that kept us all in tune and alive. Having faith, as small as a grain of mustard seed, is powerful enough to move mountains. This phrase is one of the many lines in the Bible that kept me moving forward. It may sound too good and impossible for some, but it has been our binding factor to the one, the creator.

If you have seen the movie God's Not Dead, there were two pastors in the film, where their faith, even though they are already Christian Pastors, is tested. Pastor Roland believes in the goodness and grace of the Lord, while Pastor Dave is full of worries. That's why throughout the story, they were negative and positive poles. In our lives, we always face tests and trials.

A test of faith and things happen for a reason

I see the pandemic as a test of faith! It is a question of how big or how small my faith is. A question that applies to everyone, to every individual who's having second thoughts about life. That's why a question of "How many of the prayers become answered prayers?" Well, in my lifetime, I believe all fulfilled prayers, except for those petty ones.

I remember the story shared by our pastor about a Christian who believes that God will actually save him (as in literally God will save him, as what he thought of). It is a test of faith, and it is about knowing God's way of providing things that we need.
A big storm came, and it is flooding already. Mang Jose, the faithful one, is now on his house's first floor when the Tanods passed by, telling everyone to go to the shelter and leave everything. Being devoted, he said, "don't worry, my God will save me." The flood is now on the second floor of the house. A rubber boat passes and encourages him to come with them, but Mang Jose replied, "don't worry, my God will save me." When the flood reached the edge of the roof, Mang Jose is already sitting on top of the house. A helicopter came, throws down a rope, and asked him to get on board the chopper. Still faithfully stubborn, he replied, "don't worry, my God will save me." Then the flood goes higher and higher until Mang Jose drowned.

In heaven, Mang Jose complains to God why He didn't save him. God replied, "I did help you, but you kept ignoring them." Mang Jose thinking and asked, "When was it, Lord?" God explains, "I did send the Tanods, the rubber boat, and the helicopter to pick you up, but you ignored them all."

This pandemic God gave a lot of help to our family, and it came from different avenues. May it be from an individual or a group of people who want to help.

The shield and the sword, making the impossible possible

An unceasing Prayer, a mustard seed faith, and plenty of work are what kept us moving in these trying times. No job, no income, and not enough finances, imagine what we've strived through the lockdowns and quarantines. I really couldn't imagine how we go through the year, but thankfully God is the shield and sword that covered our family from the pandemic and led us to opportunities to help us get through the rough days. We are not yet through with the pandemic, but the blessings are overflowing. We are grateful for all these blessings.

My wife and I would always say, "bahala na. (whatever will be, will be)" To other people, this term connotes negative, but it is a faithful trait of us all Filipinos. We're letting go and giving it all to God. We're not lazy, because after all, we have tried every possible way before we lay all down to Lord. From selling things online to being a redistributor of goods, delivering it to other people despite the scare of COVID-19. For us, we can do all things, but God leads us to every possible thing.

So, Dear Toto,

As we continue our lives in this pandemic, let us continue to have that Pinoy work attitude (being 'masipag'[hardworking]) and a mustard seed size of faith, then let God do all the rest.

So, BAHALA NA (Whatever will be, will be)!

Truly yours,

Yourself

The Philippine Heart Association Raises The Alarm With Hypertension

6/26/2021 12:39:00 AM

The Philippine Heart Association or PHA presented their conducted research on the prevalence of hypertension among Filipinos. Based on the result of the survey and the figure, it is very alarming. According to them, among the 111 million Filipinos there are 37% of the adults and 4% of the 12-18-year-old age group are hypertensive.

Last June 16, 2021, an online Press Conference was held via zoom to present the 2021 Nationwide Hypertension Survey Results through the organization's "PRESYON 4," the acronym for Philippine Heart Association-Council on Hypertension Report on Study of Hypertension. The background of the report clearly describes that Hypertension in the Philippines has increased in the last two decades, and hypertension-related stroke was the most common cause of mortality.

According to the presentation of Dr. Jorge Sison, Past President of the Philippine Heart Association, Cardiovascular diseases are the biggest pandemic that needs to be addressed aside from the current COVID-19 pandemic. With the number of 17.5 million people who die per year, it is very alarming, it includes heart attacks and strokes. One billion people are at risk for Cardiovascular Diseases because 1.5 billion people today are prone to suffer hypertension.

It is alarming that the number of individuals having hypertension is getting younger and younger each year, the worse part is that the age bracken of these individuals is getting younger.

"We have two pandemics on hand, and this is the bigger pandemic. It's not just about talking of a seasonal pandemic, but this is all year round...," shared by Dr. Jorge Sison.

After listening to the presentation and the question and answer, I learned that I should be more disciplined in taking care of my body and be more mindful of my maintenance medicines. Yes, I also have hypertension from the genes of my father's side. With the PRESYON 4, I was able to associate three words that people can ponder as well. These are Awareness, Treatment, and Implementation.

Awareness - We should be aware that this is a silent disease, that is why we should be conscious of what we eat and of our lifestyle. In any case that we felt differently, a short visit to your doctors would be great.

Treatment - If ever we are diagnosed with hypertension, the best treatments are changing our lifestyle, and taking the prescribed medicines. It's not easy, but it's doable.

Implementation - This is probably one of the many failures that we have, the implementation part. We're aware and have been treated but implementing the lifestyle and medicinal routine, we fail on this part. Maybe we should not think about it as a chore but as a part of us.

One of the blooming music royalty, Jayda, will be mesmerizing her viewers not only with her beauty but with her voice. Jayda vows to be in her full element as a singer-performer in the upcoming “Jayda in Concert” event, happening on June 26 (Saturday) at 8 pm with a re-run the next day, June 27 (Sunday) at 10 am on KTX.ph, iWanTTFC, and TFC IPTV.

“Expect a different side to Jayda and see me hopefully in my full element, the whole 360 of what I have to offer as an artist,” she said. “Everything that this show has to offer would be some things you wouldn’t expect from me so prepare to be surprised!”

The Star Magic and RISE artist, who just turned 18 last June 1, considers her concert a ‘moment’ she has been waiting for her whole life. “This has been a dream of mine since I was young to headline my own show. I just feel privileged to be able to do what I love in the midst of all this,” she revealed.

Fellow Kapamilya artist KD Estrada and her mom, OPM icon Jessa Zaragoza, will be joining her as special guests.

Jayda, who has always been very involved with her music projects as a songwriter and recently as music video director and producer, revealed that she is working closely with the director, Frank Mamaril, for the concert. “This has been a collaborative process for Direk Frank and me. I’m very involved but at the same time I trust his expertise in bringing our vision to life,” she said.

The show is also led by musical director Iean Iñigo and produced by ABS-CBN Events and Phenomenal Entertainment.

The rising superstar just released her latest hit “M.U. (Malabong Usapan)” under Star Music. Before that, she also dropped her self-penned track, “Paano Kung Naging Tayo.”

Tickets for “Jayda in Concert” are still available on KTX.ph, iWantTFC, and TFC IPTV for only P499. KTX also offers limited VIP tickets for P799, which includes an exclusive access to the VIP party with Jayda via Zoom.

Don’t miss “Jayda in Concert” live on June 26 (Saturday) at 8 pm and its re-run on June 27 (Sunday) at 10 am on KTX, iWantTFC, and TFC IPTV. #JaydaInConcert
