PEACE Advocacy

8:13:00 AM
Almost a month ago I attended a very interesting event. It is not the usual events that I go to. There are no celebrity present, no loot bags to peek on to and no expensive gift certificates to buy what we want, it is just a plain advocacy call with a lot of interesting stuff to talk about and learn. I myself did learn a lot from it. Another thing is that it did change my perspective about the people around me. I could say that the event is all about respect and understanding whatever race, culture, religion or ethnicity we have.

The event’s attendance is not that well enough, we all know that because the event is an advocacy call so quite few people will for sure respond to that and the organizers do know that. Plus the weather before and during that time was not really that good. Though the weather is not good the whole situation went well for us because we were able to have a more meaningful talk with the speakers. It actually turned out into an open discussion. Much more insights and explanation were shared to us.
I’m sure by reading through the first two paragraph you are wondering what I’m talking about. Well, to explain it first, the event was all about introducing PEACE through the new technology and social media. So to be exact it’s an advocacy for PEACE. I’m sure most of you will raise your eyebrows about this matter. Well better take it down and read it first.
Now, the advocacy call was organized by PEACETECH. So what’s PEACETECH? For the word itself PEACE and TECH, it’s a two word merge together to have a better way to introduce peace though the youths, the Peace and Technology.

According to the group PEACETECH is a
“…non-profit organization that builds peace among the world’s youth.
PeaceTech recognizes the need to promote an understanding of the causes and consequences of conflicts in the Philippines and the common challenges young Filipinos face. Our goal is to build understanding among the youth throughout the Philippine archipelago.”

They are doing this advocacy to enlighten everyone about the conflicts that we Filipinos have and what are the ways that we could do to stop or at least minimize the conflicts. They are doing this by using one of the greatest inventions of man, the internet. The Internet plays an important role in spreading this advocacy and as a blogger it is one of my duties to introduce peace to everybody in a simplest means of spreading it.

This is just the start of my series of PEACE talks because I know if I talk about it here it will be too boring to read a very long article so I will just have to post it part by part. Stay tuned for more articles and things about this advocacy. If you want to know more about PEACETECH simply visit their website at www.peacetech.net .

Reputasyon

10:26:00 AM
What if your reputation was put on the line because of a false accusation and a web of lies and deceit? ABS-CBN takes drama on a different level via “Reputasyon” which started airing last Monday (June 11).

Part of ABS-CBN’s Kapamilya Gold, “Reputasyon” is led by Cristine Reyes.

As she embarks on a new role that promises to be her most challenging by far, Cristine us ready to put her reputation on the line for her new show. “Itataya kop o ang reputasyon ko, maganda po talaga ang kwento nitong bagong show naming. Pinagisipan po ng mabuti at pinaghandaan po ng aming mga manunulat at produksyon,” Cristine shared.
Cristine plays the role of Agnes De Los Santos, a simple woman with big dreams for her family. However, an event changes her life in ways she did not imagined and dreamt of.

Side by side with Cristine is her real-life boyfriend, Rayver Cruz who plays Henry. “Pakiramdam ko hindi ako nagtatrabaho kasi Masaya kami sa set. Masayang-masaya ako na kasama ko si Cristine ditto sa show. Bihira lang naman kasi yung pagkakataon na makasama mo sa isang project yung mahal mo sa buhay. At ang project na ito, maipagmalaki naming, exciting ang magiging latag ng mga kwento,” Rayver said.
Jason Abalos will be completing the love triangle as Boyet. Jason shared in an interview that he is very much enthusiastic about this project.

This is also the comeback project of Aiko Melendez who took a hiatus in the television scene for quite a long time. Aiko plays an offbeat role that will make us all remember that she was indeed one of the most brilliant actresses during her early years.
An impressive array of actors will further bring brilliance to the teleserye – Jaclyn Jose, Lito Pimentel, Emilio Garcia, Deborah Sun, Jill Yulo, Andre Garcia, john James Uy. Acclaimed directors Laurice Guillen and Celso Ad Castillo complete the cast.

Under the direction of Jeffrey Jeturian and Mervyn Brondial, “Reputasyon” airs weekdays after “Happy Yippee Yehey” on ABS-CBN. For more updates, log on to www.abs-cbn.com or follow abscbndotcom on Twitter.

Major in Mixology & Minor in Flair-Tending

5:59:00 AM
A week before the classes starts I received a letter from the GSM Blueniversity congratulating me and informing me that the Committee of Admission has voted to offer me a slot at the GSM Blueniversity (Just according to the letter, hehehe). Though it was a general letter for most of the HRM students, future bartenders and bartenders-at-heart the feeling is still the same when I was admitted into the university. I remember myself pulling out the letter from the envelope, inch by inch, to see whether I passed the exam or I failed it. Fortunately, it seems no one failed because most of us were given a letter through our emails.

As we all know, some of the classes during college were boring but of course it depends on the professor and the subject they are teaching. Good thing and were lucky that the Dean of the GSM Blueniversity is not a grumpy old man or woman that will just spoil the night. Dean Jayce Perlas is just the right person to make the night of learning fun and exciting. Plus we don’t have to cut-classes just to have fun because the fun is already in the class at A-venue’s Capone’s Bistro together with GSM Blueniversity Professors Derick de Borja and Erwyn Unigo. The GSM Blueniversity is organized to teach people more about drinks, drinking, mixing drinks and flair-tending with the assistance of professional bartenders and mixers plus a hands-on experience in mixing your own concoctions. As what Professor de Borja quoted “GSM Blue is here to educate, not intoxicate”.

Derick de Borja briefly discussed Alcohol 101. He explained us a bit about alcohols, liquors, and spirits. He even explained the differences of each alcoholic drinks and he also mentioned a bit how they are processed. We also learned terms and different ingredients needed in mixing cocktails. We even learned that a concoction is called a punch when juice is dominant than the alcohol and it is a cocktail when alcohol is much dominant than the juice.

The Science of Mixing according to Blueniversity Derick de Borja and Erwyn Unigo has a detailed ways on mixing and preparing cocktails and drinks. Erwyn Unigo shows us his flair moves and also mixes some of the famous cocktails like the martini and some local mixes like the Whatta Whatta BlueMix of San Juan, Manila and the Baragatan BlueMixx of Puerto Princesa.

Of course, the class will not be complete without experiencing it for ourselves, so three participants were chosen to make their own concoction. As a result personalities of the mixers came out to the concoction that they have prepared. For the final round of the night three students were chosen to participate in a drinking galore to get the Toma cum laude of the class. Mommy Lariza reign victorious as she swept the whole five cocktails with a straw.

To end the final rites of the GSM Blueniversity class a certificate as Toma Cum Laude was awarded to Mommy Lariza and certificate of participation to all the participants.

They were also announcing their annual search for Flair Idols so if you got the guts, qualified and is a promising flair idol join their search who knows you might become this year’s Flair Idol.

As a reminder to all always drink responsibly and moderately! Kampai!

Meeting the Cast of The Adventures of Pureza

11:21:00 PM
When was the last time that you had your ROFL or Rolling On Floor Laughing? Well, I almost did that! Good thing that it is a blogger’s night event organized by Star Cinema, somehow I manage to control myself and stopped the possibility of embarrassment in making that very huge scene of laughing and rolling on the floor. It will be like taking off the lights from the stars if I have done that. Anyway I’m still good and I still able to write this article.

Yes! The event was a dinner with the cast of the Adventures of Pureza at Max’s Fried Chicken at the area of Tomas Morato (I think?). Other invited bloggers was also there waiting for the arrival of the stars of the movie. One by one, the stars of the movie came and greeted most of us bloggers. After a few minutes dinner was served. It was “Chicken All You Can” so most of the guys who loves chicken made an approving sound. I’m sure all of our tummies are stuffed during that night.

While some are still eating and the others are already done, Ms. Nikki of Star Cinema made a little talk about the movie and an informal plugging to watch it. Later on they played the trailer of the movie and everyone started laughing. I’m sure every body did not just sit there without a laugh. It was really hilarious, even the stars could not stop laughing. My wife commented on here blog that they filled us up first so we will have enough energy to laugh while watching the trailer.

This is the first full length movie opportunity given to Melai Cantiveros and Jason Francisco after winning from Pinoy Big Brother’s House. Perhaps it was really high time to give them some big break in the big screen. We’ve seen them in the Pinoy Big Brother’s House, in some movies, and also in some sitcoms and I think they have shown their potential to be a comedian. I don’t know if it is the first time but the two of them is the first comedy love team that I have seen. Comedy seems natural to them.
The Adventure of Pureza: Queen of the Riles will for sure get you laughing. If you need to laugh on July 13, 2011 better watch this movie! Warning: Just make sure to fill your tummy before watching to avoid gas leaks while laughing.

Child play... The New Generation!

10:29:00 AM
This article was written for a company newsletter almost a decade ago.  Though I was writing back then, my work wasn't polished enough so there are still grammar error and other mistakes that may be found in it.  So I just want to share this and I hope that it will give some information for the readers.

Fight… Fire down the hole… Attach… Destroy them… Finish him!   Those are the voices that you’ll hear in video and computer games.  Shocking?  Yes, these words and voices are for real but the most shocking of all s what the children see.  But what drives children to still play these video games?

Video Games and there alike as a whole are created to entertain people, adult and children.  Most of them are fun to play with especially when you know how to play the game.  These games vary in their creation it may be as easy as Pacman and as difficult as Starcraft or Counterstrike but all in all they are all just click and play.  But what really drives them?  One thing for sure its visual, something look beautiful and appealing to the eye is worth watching plus add up the interactivity then viola!  You got yourself hooked up.

A lot of Filipino children don’t have this kind of entertainment showcase in their house.  So how would these children play as often as they want too?  Let me see… hm... video games.. where can we find these video games?  Well to name some, there are lots of Arcades in malls and play station in some computer café or rentals.  So that’s where they get to play those games.  A walk away from their house and one ride of jeep to the mall makes every video game accessible to kids anywhere and everywhere.

I remember when I was still a child the first video game that I have played was made by Atari.  Shooting the parachute falling from above which are rendered in a black and white, the main objective was don’t let those parachuter land on your territory.  Too simple ha!  As a kid back then I was really amazed and that was a decade and a half ago.  Now, these video games had evolved and become more appealing to children and they can easily influenced by whatever they see and hear.  They are more likely compared to a computer what would be the input would be the output.

Just recently, I manage to read some article from the Philippine Pediatric Society about the effect of the video and computer games that children play.  It is said that most of these children who’s playing computer or video game lives a sedentary lifestyle.  What was a sedentary lifestyle?  According to the Philippine Pediatric Society it is a motionless activity of body parts and if children are living this kind of lifestyle it may increase the possibility of having a cardiovascular disease, obesity or morbidity.  Why?  It is because they don’t exercise and do something.   There are only few parts of their body does the movement.  Some of these are the eyes, hands, fingers and the butt.  Sitting for hours will sure give you a Guinness World Record.   According to the article these are just the physical effect, so meaning there are more side effects.   In terms of socialization children become socially inadequate and immature.  A child with a playmate instills the feeling of having a playmate unlike in video or computer games, they instill the feeling of competition and reset button whenever they fail to do the task.  Also according to the article children do have hard time coping with frustration and failure because of the idea of resetting.  It is also expressed in the article that children may become short-tempered, aggressive and prone to commit violence because of some gruesome scene in the game.   It is indeed true because you will really notice it to children in the community and it shocking to hear a six year old kid saying some of those words.

The rampant increase of these video and computer games are incontrollable but if parents have established a deeper relationship with their child and having a parental guidance or a family conversation once in a while telling that this games are not good to play for their age.  It is also good if parents will encourage their children to play out-door games like run and tag or the like with this it will instill and restore the value of child play.

Poetry On Valentines Day

1:59:00 PM
Today, most people are wearing red shirts or red polo signifying that they are celebrating the day of Saint Valentine.  Not only it signifies the day but also the feeling, the thought of giving something for your beloved one. The feeling is not measured by gifts but it is measured by acts.  There's a saying that "Action speaks louder than words."  That's why it is better shown rather than through text messages or through spoken words.  Sometimes lips are deceiving, it only speak of what is its intention.

Anyway I just to make a short poetry for today....

Share your heart
Which I longed,
Surprise me now
With your song.

The day is red
Filled with love,
Roses of bunch
You will have.

Kiss me tight,
Full on the lips
Lets dance tonight
And throw your hips.

Shower the day
Until the night
On bed I lay
And off the light.

    Fatherhood: A Career!

    3:32:00 PM
All couples waits for the very moment that they will become parents. For the mothers, since they are the ones who carry the babies for nine months inside their womb it is given that they have already started their new career in life. But for the fathers it is something different. There's no school or curriculum teaching on how to become a father. Sure there are books, and stories from other fathers but that doesn't mean that their stories and experience will be the same as yours. Of course you'll notice that a few will surely be like yours but still the learning and development is quite different.

Do you believe that the painter wouldn't be able to remake his masterpiece as exactly the same as his first work. Yes it is true! Though he may be able to remake the replica, yet it is still not exactly the same. The stroke will be different and the weight and amount of paint will not be as it is used before. The artist will not be able to control the fact that his works is based on his emotional state. He may be happy today but tomorrow will be another thing. This also goes on with being a father. You may replicate the discipline and the manner of bringing up of your father but you won't be able to copy your result to your son. Hi has a mind of his own. His thoughts are different from yours. So taken from a common term being a father requires all your attention. Fathers may not be always around but the mere thought for the kids that they are being guided by the father is enough to keep children on the right track.

The words of the fathers are so powerful. Just like the bosses in a company they may have a stern voice sometimes but still the compassion and the love still floats over that big and cranky voice. Though all or almost all fathers focuses on discipline they sill differ on how they implement discipline. Some may have been very autocratic, others may have been very lenient, others may have been democratic and some may have managed to weigh their action before making a decision. Of all, the combination of the three is the best. Giving flexibility on the event when to use a certain discipline. Fatherhood doesn't just stop on disciplining it is also does give life and support not only for the children but also for the mothers. A father doesn't only master one thing but he is required to be the jack of all trade. So if you think fatherhood is just something well, you better think again. It is not just a job but it is a work and most importantly it is a career.
