Jane De Leon, The New Darna, Wows Netizens in an Impressive Transformation Debut

12:49:00 PM

Are you one of the viewers and fans waiting for that moment?

The eagerly-anticipated transformation of Jane De Leon as the new Darna has finally happened last Friday (August 19), capping off the pilot week of the ABS-CBN series that also saw the death of Leonor (Iza Calzado), the first Darna.

The #LipadDarna episode revealed how the white mythical stone found its way back to Narda—now an emergency medical technician—during a rescue mission caused by an earthquake in Nueva Esperanza.

Despite having qualms about fully embracing her destiny as a superhero, Narda bravely swallowed the stone, triggering her Darna alter ego and saving those who were trapped in the quake’s rubble.

The momentous scene shot up the hashtag #LipadDarna atop the local Twitter trend list and at the second spot in the worldwide list, with netizens primarily praising Jane’s performance, the costume, and visual effects.

After the episode, JRB Creative Production also released the official poster of the series, which shows Jane in a fierce battle stance while fully clad in her red and gold Darna ensemble that also earned positive feedback online for its high quality.

During Monday’s episode, viewers were introduced to the mysterious characters of Javier Toledo or Lindol Man (Dominic Ochoa) and Master Klaudio (Joko Diaz), who helped Ding from men trying to attack him. Will they be friends or foes to him and Narda?

Meanwhile, Regina (Janella Salvador) and Brian’s (Joshua Garcia) alliance in trying to expose the corruption of Mayor Zaldy Vallesteros (Simon Ibarra) continues after they found out that Toledo was the chief engineer of the collapsed building during the quake.

Tune in to “Mars Ravelo’s Darna,” airing weekdays, 8 pm on Kapamilya Channel, A2Z, CineMo, and TV5. It is also available to watch via Kapamilya Online Live, iWantTFC, and The Filipino Channel.

The Costume that Made Darna Iconic

12:13:00 AM

The newest Darna flies this August 15. But before it takes massive attention from its fans, let us try to check some details of the characters and figure out what is interestingly new in this latest Darna series.

Darna is an iconic heroine character among Filipinos. I think there's no Filipino who doesn't know Darna, probably except those who live in the mountain or chose to live a monk-like life or a sage or the ones who do not have any access to any media materials. Pinoy kids love this character, a good representation of woman empowerment.

From the conception of the character since its first appearance on screen in the 1950s, Darna has undergone many changes. This has made the icon, the idol of every kid in every generation.

Let us check what costume made the Darna character iconic.

Rosa Del Rosario - 1950 - "Darna"

Rosa del Rosario the first Darna wore a costume similar to the comic character, a head gear covering the head like a helmet with the Darna emblem. It then became its trademark but was changed during the portrayal of Nanette Medved and Anjanette Abayari, wearing only the symbol on the head.

Anjanette Abayari - 1994 - "Darna !Ang Pagbabalik"

Nanette Medved - 1991 - "Darna"

The two-piece costume with the iconic star on it. Almost all the actresses who played Darna wore this costume and interestingly there are only three (3) actresses who wore the one piece version, Sharon Cuneta, Regine Velasquez, and the now Iza Calzado.

Sharon Cuneta -  1986 - appeared in "Captain Barbell"

Regine Velasquez - 2009 - TV Series "Book 2 of Darna"

Let's talk about the emblem. From all the Darna versions and based on the creation of Mars Ravelo, there are two (2) significant objects present, the stone, and the wings. Rio Locsin, Lorna Tolentino, and Anjanette Abayari's costumes are somewhat different.

Lorna Tolentino - 1977 - "Darna"

Rio Locsin - 1977 - "Darna"

Now, the Jane de Leon Darna version shows a different emblem. The gem or stone is the same but the wings are not the usual feathery type. Probably a more digitalized and modernized look to match the current generation.

Probably the weirdest of all the actors who played the Darna role was Dolphy. Yes, he did get his chance of becoming Darna in Darna kuno!

Dolphy - 1979 - "Darna Kunoh?"

I think no matter what is the version in every generation, the character only speaks of one thing... woman empowerment.  Women are fragile but they are not weak. That's why Darna became an icon not only because of her costume but because of the strength and strong will behind that image.

So, what do you think of the new version of Darna?

"Darna" Series Releases First BTS and Features A Modern-day Valentina with Janella Salvador

3:42:00 AM

"Darna: The TV Series" has started its camera rolling, and ABS CBN released one BTS photo of Jane De Leon as Narda. So, the countdown starts as they air on Philippine TV soon.

“Darna: The TV Series” which recently named the actress taking on the role of Valentina and director Chito S. Roño believes that Janella Salvador will be able to give justice to the character that will be enveloped in deep mystery.

The box-office director also said that viewers can anticipate a modern-day supervillain in the show that is set to premiere in 2022. He teased, “We’re modernizing Valentina time. Totally kakaiba sa dating Valentina!”

“I haven’t really seen her [Janella] that much except for when she auditioned and I was kinda impressed. Hindi ako na-disappoint sa audition niya,” Direk Chito shared. “I think she would do justice to the character of Valentina. Janella would not only be capable but also interesting to do that different kind of character.”

Meanwhile, a newly dropped behind-the-scenes video by JRB Creative Production gave a sneak peek at the character of Narda, the human alter ego of Darna portrayed by Jane De Leon.

The series’ lead star, Jane, also celebrated her 23rd birthday (Nov. 22) on the set and shared her excitement in working with her new “Darna” family.

“Importante sa amin na dapat family kaming lahat and not just thinking about work but also thinking of friendships and also relationships namin sa isa’t-isa. The set is light and we’re just enjoying the moment,” shared the Kapamilya actress in an interview with Metro.Style.

Jane's Character Turns Cardo's Life Upside Down in "FPJ's Ang Probinsyano"

5:39:00 AM

Cardo's (Coco Martin) life continues to face insurmountable trials as he mourns the death of his wife Alyana (Yassi Pressman) while having to deal with Jane de Leon’s new character in the action-packed episodes of “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.”

Following the intense crossfire between Task Force Agila and the Black Ops Unit that took Alyana’s life, Cardo is yet to see the last of Pol. Capt. Lia (Jane) as she gets more involved in his life and starts to do more research about his past, adding to the challenges that Cardo will soon have to face.

Jane, in a media conference on Friday (February 5), thanked viewers for welcoming her character into the series and teased that Lia will add excitement to the story.

“I really like the role because Lia is a little rough. What I really look forward to is doing scenes with Coco. Viewers have a lot to look forward to. What will my role be, will I be a ‘kontrabida’ or an ally to Cardo Dalisay?” said Jane.

Jane, as a newcomer to “Probinsyano,” also said she attributes the long-running success of the show to Coco’s storytelling ideas and the strong bond that binds all of the people involved in the show.

“Coco is very smart. He is very creative and really good at creating stories not only for himself but for the other characters in the series. Another factor is the camaraderie on set, from the staff and camera men to the directors and artists. They look after one another, especially the show. That’s how I found out why the show is still going strong,” she shared.

As the story continues, some members of Task Force Agila continue to blame him for their hardships, including Alyana’s mom, whose resentment for Cardo only grew after the death of her daughter.

Meanwhile, Diana (Angel Aquino) and Mang Teddy (Joel Torre) are still being held hostage by Arturo (Tirso Cruz III) and Lily (Lorna Tolentino). Despite all the beating they are receiving, Diana and Mang Teddy refuse to reveal Cardo’s whereabouts.

How will Cardo deal with all his problems now that Alyana is dead? Will Lia soon find out the truth behind her group’s mission to hunt down Cardo?

Viewers continue to follow the action-packed series, which received its highest viewership record on Kapamilya Online Live as it reached over 102,000 peak concurrent viewers on ABS-CBN Entertainment’s YouTube channel last January 25.

Watch “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” on A2Z channel on free TV and via digital TV boxes like ABS-CBN TVplus. Digital TV box users can scan and look for A2Z channel in Metro Manila and in some parts of Cavite, Laguna, Quezon, Rizal, Bataan, Batangas, Bulacan, and Pampanga.

Viewers can also catch the show from Monday to Friday at 8 PM on CineMo and Kapamilya Channel on cable and satellite TV via Kapamilya Channel (SKYchannel 8 on SD and channel 167 on HD, Cablelink channel 8, G Sat Direct TV channel 22, and most cable operator-members under Philippine Cable and Telecommunications Association). Angel Locsin and Jane De Leon: Clash of the Old and New Darna

12:47:00 PM

Darna has been one of the iconic heroine comic characters that transcend from a number of generations already. It has moved from one actress to another, highlighting the very personality of the artist playing the role. Looked upon by not just the kids but even the grown-ups who are grasping for hope, inspiration, and strength. Topping it all, Darna is the heroine that is a symbol of woman strength, hope, and compassion.

In our current situation, the pandemic COVID-19 crisis, and the issue about press freedom, we truly need an icon to be our inspiration to move forward. An inspiration that will lead us all as we live with the new norm of our life.

Currently, two of the stars who have been allowed to play the iconic character, Darna, are in a silent online dispute. Are they?

If you can recall that last week after the announcement of the denial of the franchise of the ABS CBN Network, Angel Locsin, coined as the real-life Darna, made a call to her fellow actors to rise and speak up about the shutdown of the network.

“Yong mga Kasamahan kong artista na hindi pa rin nagsasalita. Ano tatahimik na lang kayo? Wala na kayong network? Ano magpapacute na lang kayo sa Instagram?”

With this act, celebrities and personalities expressed their gesture of support. Some went to the rally to join the noise barrage, and others made their way of support on social media. And one of the celebrities who take their support online is Jane De Leon, who is the current bid to play the role of Darna. The gesture is there, but and unfortunately, some lines are a bit off for the netizens.

“My support to the current crisis that the network is facing right now is not just measured by going out in the streets in this time of pandemic. Alam kong para sa nakakarami sa atin, masakit ang closure ng ABS-CBN. Nakiki-isa at nakikisimpatya rin po ako sa mga kapawa ko Kapamilya na nawalan ng kabuhayan.

…. Dadagdag pa ba tayo sa lumolobong bilang at patuloy na pagtaas ng COVID cases sa ating Bansa?....”

In my opinion, the reason that Jane made is a bit out of line. Knowing that the old Darna, Angel Locsin, has been doing her charity works at the start of the COVID-19 spread, even though she knows the risk is high. Jane should have made her statement simpler.

There's a rumor circulating that Angel made a rebut against the statement, and it's unpleasing. Will this be the start of the cold war between the two Darnas? For whatever will be the outcome of the silent or cold war between the two Darna, let us understand that playing the role of Darna is a privilege, and it comes with great responsibility - to give hope, inspiration, and strength.

Jane De Leon Replaces Liza Soberano For the Darna Role

12:13:00 AM

It was over a year ago when we posted about the next actress that will play the Darna role, that was Liza Soberano.  Due to certain circumstances that transpired during the span of time that Liza was doing the preparation and the shooting of the Darna movie, Liza announced her withdrawal from the movie. This was after the severe finger injury that she had.

With that a new race to pick and select the right actress for the role. There are some of have auditioned for it. Some made it comedic like Alex Gonzaga and some where pretty well prepared for the audition like Julia Barretto. There were also recommendations from the netizens like Nadine Lustre, Kathryn Bernardo, and more.

In the end there could be only one and just today it was announced who will be the replacement of Liza as Darna.

As I was browsing from the line up of suggested actresses to fit the role, this pretty lady is out of the list. Not even a clue that she will be picked to be the next to play the Darna role. So, who it was? Well it's Jane De Leon. Who she is? Well, if you've followed the TV Series Halik you'll eventually recognize her as the hot tempered sister of Lino (Jericho Rosales character) when it comes to Jade. Also, Jane has been part of the Girltrends which regularly performs in It's Showtime.

So, what do you think, will she be one of the best fit for the Darna role? Well, let us see and watch!
