1st Day Manila Day Sale of SM City Manila

6/15/2012 09:59:00 PM
Manila... Manila... I keep coming back to Manila...
There's no place like Manila...
Manila I'm coming home...

This is an excerpt of one of the famous song describing Manila. It is indeed there's no place like Manila. It is the center of trade and industry. The soul of the country. As one of the well known city in the Philippines celebrates its day SM City Manila joins in with the celebration and bring forth the finest sales that they can offer. Its the Manila Day Sale by SM City Manila.

Entrance of SM City Manila with Sale Banner

SM City Manila, being situated in the middle of the universities, government offices, establishments and parks, holds the venue for all people in different walks of life. Making them the center for great finds, good foods and in demand products.

As the first day of the Manila Day Sale commence, I was given a chance to witness the flow of people coming in and out of SM City Manila. From students to senior citizens and from workers to bystanders, they are all roaming around and trying to get the cheapest bargain that they can find. The crowd was almost thick already and yet it is only the first day of the sale plus it is still Friday. I may have witnessed only the tip of the crowd and I'm sure the later part of the day will make every body blast inside the mall. It's pay day!

The Sales, The Crowd and The Mall

I'm just lucky today that I don't have work, so I'm not in a hurry to roam around and flicker those tag prices. I did find clothing lines and toys that sales from 20% to 50% off which I consider great buys already. There are also other establishments that offers a 70% off on their selected items. Whew! This great buys hunting makes me hungry as well. Great that food establishments are also joining the fun sale.

With today's current situation we really need to be picky, practical and thriefty. We need to have more of what we earned and that's the reason why SM City Manila offers this 3 Day Sale to let the working class enjoy more of the hard-earned money.

The Manila Day Sale of SM City Manila will run from June 15 (which is today) until June 17. So, you still have 2 more days to create your list and to hunt them down.

More of the pics taken today....

All Fun at Run United 2

6/14/2012 09:49:00 PM

I never thought that running will be this popular to many people, perhaps that's because they have made running more fun, especially in the Philippines. When I was still a bachelor, running has been one of my favorite activity. It makes me more energize and always on the go. Since I work inside the Clark Special Economic Zone there's nothing else to do but run. I do my run in the morning and in the afternoon. It was great gaining more grounds every time I run. It's like completing a level in a video game.

After marriage, my run has been reduced due to some activities that needs attention but I still make sure to have time to run or a brisk walk to keep me active. It was further reduced when my favorite running shoes were already worn out. It was its time to rest.

I know companies that are organizing fun runs but never knew that more and more will initiate this activity. Some do fun runs in their communities and others in known places. Last year it was my first time to join and experience fun run. It was an out of town run which I came unprepared but thankfully it went out well. Then the rest of the story is history. I'm running again!

Unilab Active Health and RunRio Inc. organized the Run United 2 this coming June 17 and is off to break the half-marathon category record set during Run United 1 earlier inI March. As registration closed over the weekend for the 21K category, the 5,000 mark has already been breached. It was expected to have over 14,000 registrants in all categories for the much-awaited run race.

According to Alex Panlilio, Head of Unilab Active Health “This shows the matuirty of Filipino runners, there are still many running enthusiasts who run with friends and families for fun. But long-distnace runners are keeping pace in terms of the turnout at Run United races.

RunRio President, Rio dela Cruz disclosed that “Run United 2 is slated to be the biggest 21km race in the Philippines. At Run United 1 earlier this, there were 4,000 21K runners. We are just getting bigger every year.” Also it was said that their target is 5,000 slots for the half-marathon or 21k category but they will accommodate some more runners if necessary.

The Run United 2 categories, namely the 500m dash for kids, 3k, 5k, and 10k will start and finish at the SM Mall of Asia except for the 21k which will start at BGC and will finish at SM Mall of Asia.

In-store registrants of Run United 2 will instantly received their singlets. The race kits will be claimed at the first ever Run United Expo which is a new enhancement to the Run United experience, patterned after well known international races. The expo will let runners experience the latest trends in the running industry and they can also avail of huge discounts from the exhibitors. A special line of Run United memorabilia apparel will also be available for Run United enthusiasts.  The Run United 2 Race Expo will be held from June 12 to June 16 at Block 51, 9th Ave. Corner 26th Street, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City. Human Nature, History and Advocacy

6/14/2012 10:39:00 AM

Anna’s passion for the environment blossomed with her first child in 2005. Together with her husband, Dylan, the successful British multi-millionaire who gave up his fast cars and wealthy lifestyle in England to work for the poor in the Philippines, the couple decided to use cloth diapers after reading that it takes 500 years for disposable diapers to biodegrade and that many of the chemicals in them are toxic. Anna struggled with the decision (especially when washing squishy nappies!) but initial reluctance became a conviction that their inconvenience was a small price to pay for their kids to know a world that is still intact and beautiful. Their desire to live a more sustainable and ethical lifestyle extended to the products they used on their children and themselves, opting for fewer chemicals and less stuff in general, resulting in less waste and a smaller carbon footprint.

Camille, on the other hand was already experimenting with cosmetics as early as elementary school! She eventually became a freelance make-up artist and joined a cosmetics company after college. However, her longing to merge her passion for cosmetics and her conscience to help the country was still waiting to be fulfilled.

Anna and Dylan spent a year in the US between July 2007 and June 2008, where Dylan was setting up a network of volunteers for Gawad Kalinga. Whilst in the US, Anna observed a growing trend of natural and ethical products penetrating the mainstream market, making them more accessible to ordinary Americans instead of just being products for the wealthy and the elite. They were now present in supermarkets and drug stores at more affordable prices. She wondered whether this phenomenon could be replicated in the Philippines. Were Americans the only people who could have the privilege of enjoying a healthier lifestyle and saving the environment?

Camille joined the couple halfway through their US assignment. Soon the sisters started doing more research on how to bring affordable, natural products to the Philippines, work that they continued even after coming home to the country. Their persistence finally paid off and the Human Nature brand was born.

Human Nature was launched in November 2008. Today, it has become the country’s leading and trail-blazing social enterprise, hailed by Entrepreneur magazine as “the game-changer of the decade,” and studied as a successful working model for a social enterprise by students at Berkley University, California and Lee Kuan Yew in Singapore. It has sold almost 3 million products through its network of16,000 dealers and its 19 branches all over the country. This year, it started selling its mineral makeup line Love Minerals at Beauty Bar, the only Filipino cosmetics brand carried by the premiere personal care chain. A selection of Human Nature’s best-selling products is available at Rustan’s Supermarket and Shopwise. Human Nature is also distributed in the US and Singapore, with more plans of expansion on the way.

Human Nature employs Gawad Kalinga residents as part of its full-time staff and has started work on a Human Nature Organic Demo Farm at the GK Enchanted Farm in Angat, Bulacan. Guided by the principles of being PRO-PHILIPPINES, PRO-POOR and PRO-ENVIRONMENT, the company continues to strive to provide prosperity to the Philippines through successful and sustainable social enterprise and quality natural products for all Filipinos.

Philosophy

Gandang Kalikasan, Inc., the company that brings you the Human Nature range of natural personal care and beauty products is founded on three core principles of being PRO-PHILIPPINES, PRO-POOR, & PRO-ENVIRONMENT.

PRO-POOR
From the beginning, the company was set up with the goal of providing more livelihood to Gawad Kalinga residents and communities. The dream is to set up GK communities as globally certified organic farms which can produce world-class raw materials for Human Nature products. Work has already started on the very first Human Nature GK Organic Farm in Bulacan in partnership with NGOs that specialize in organic farming and processing. As firm believers in fair trade principles, Human Nature buys raw materials from its community-based suppliers at fair trade prices, and sometimes even above market prices if the market price is not enough to provide a good quality of life for the farmers.

The company employs GK residents from nearby communities in Quezon City and provides a fair living wage which is much more than the minimum wage required by law. It also provides warehouse staff with full benefits and overtime pay in order to promote dignity of work.

PRO-PHILIPPINES
Human Nature products are 100% made in the Philippines. It sources as many raw materials as possible from the Philippines and will only import if there is no local availability. All too often, multinational companies (or even Philippine-owned ones) will source their products and raw materials abroad if the price is cheaper by even a few centavos, costing Philippine jobs and sending that money out of the local economy forever. Human Nature wants to invest in Philippine-made products because it believes in the country and its people.

During the product development stage, potential raw materials are evaluated based on two criteria: Can the plant/herb/raw material be sourced locally? If not, can it eventually be grown in the Philippines so that the company can find ways to start an industry producing it? Only when an ingredient meets these qualifications is it used. For example, Tea Tree Oil is a very popular ingredient but it can't be grown in the Philippines so it is not used in Human Nature’s formulations. Lemongrass is widely grown and produced in the Philippines so it is in many Human Nature products and the company continues to seek ways to use it.

Human Nature believes that Filipinos can produce world-class finished goods. Other countries have reached prosperity by buying raw materials cheaply from poor countries and turning them into expensive finished goods. Think of Switzerland – they produce some of the finest chocolate in the world, yet not a single cocoa bean grows naturally in Switzerland. They buy cocoa from around the world, turn it into chocolate and sell it back to the country that grew it for many times the price! The only way for the Philippines to become prosperous is for it to produce not just raw materials, but world-class finished goods and for Filipinos to start buying Filipino products.

Let’s face it, the Philippines will be mostly agricultural for a long time to come and for as long as they only grow rice, its farmers will always be poor. But other countries have developed first-world economies from agriculture. Think of France – what do they produce? Fine wine, champagne, the best cheeses, expensive natural fragrances... some of the most valuable natural products in the world come from France. If our farmers grow okra, they can often only get 50 centavos per piece or less. But by switching to, say, organic aloe vera, they can earn as much as P50 per leaf – a hundred times the value. This is how Human Nature aims to help the country – by sourcing locally at fair trade prices, producing world-class finished goods and exporting them around the world.

PRO-ENVIRONMENT
Human Nature takes its responsibility of being nature’s steward very seriously. It carefully deliberates on the impact of all its business decisions on the environment. For example, all raw materials are thoroughly researched to ensure that they are naturally derived, are not processed using environmentally toxic processes and do not become toxic when released into the environment after the user has finished with the product. It also uses recyclable bottles in its packaging to minimize its impact on the country’s overburdened landfills.

Human Nature is about loving the Philippines, loving the environment and loving people as it provides only the safest and purest world-class ingredients for them. These are effective AND affordable organic and natural personal care products that feel as good on your skin as they do in your heart. We hope that you will find a sense of peace and purpose knowing that your everyday choices have a positive impact on the poor, our country and our planet.

Advocacies

Gandang Kalikasan Inc was created by Anna M. Wilk and Camille Meloto, two of the daughters of Tony Meloto, founder of Gawad Kalinga (GK). GK has already transformed more than 2,000 slums in the Philippines into beautiful, peaceful communities that are on their way to becoming productive too.

Gawad Kalinga is recognized globally as a world-class Filipino movement for nation-building by everyone from Harvard University to the National Institute of Education in Singapore. In 2006, GK won the Magsaysay Award, Asia’s Nobel Prize. Human Nature’s vision is that as soon as GK villages are capable of producing its ingredients to the highest standards, the company will equip and empower them to grow and process the raw materials needed for its products.

Beginning October 2010, 100% of all profits earned by Human Nature from the sales of its best-selling Citronella Bug Spray have gone to the farmer’s cooperative in Labo, Camarines Norte, Bicol, which supplies the organic citronella oil used in the product through thePhilippine Federation for Environmental Concern (PFEC). This contribution has not only funded new extractors to improve their production, it has also uplifted their community by funding a school renovation and providing healthcare for the farming families.

Human Nature’s certified organic lemongrass essential oil is sourced from the Alternative Indigenous Development Foundation Inc.(AIDFI) in Negros Occidental. AIDFI provides renewable and cheap technologies to rural folk to help supply the basic needs of water, sanitation and energy. In 2010, AIDFI won the BBC World Challenge with its perfection of the hydraulic water pump that provides water to remote villages. With this technology, the lemongrass farmers in Negros were able to produce organic lemongrass essential oil for Human Nature.

Through its partnerships with these noble organizations, Human Nature hopes to bring sustainable livelihood to Gawad Kalinga communities to fulfill its vision of creating hundreds of world-class community organic farms in the Philippines, providing livelihood for thousands of its poorest people.

Human Nature is available through Human Nature dealers and branches. The Flagship Store is located at 463 Commonwealth Ave., Quezon City. To learn more about Human Nature products, contact a Human Nature dealer, or find out how to be a Human Nature dealer, visit www.humanheartnature.com, your nearest Human Nature Branch or call (02) 931-5787.

First of all congratulations to Eric Losloso and Petra Mahalimuyak for grabbing the 2 Million Peso Reward, 1 Million Peso each, at the Axe Anarchy Raid. They sure made everyone in chaos for that winning.

Axe, the number 1 male fragrance brand in the world, unleashed chaos at the launch of its first ever his and hers fragrance – the Axe Anarchy. The event was called The Axe Anarchy Raid which made the hottesst women in the country let loose on the luckiest gang of guys in a sexy game of cops and robbers. Well, the gang of guys who played the role of robbers are truly lucky enough to have been chased by those drop-dead gorgeous female celebrities and models. Axe made it more chaotic, thrilling and wilder by offering a two million-peso reward to the winning pair.

Sexy Cops Getting Ready for the Raid.
“Axe has always been about attraction. In the last 30 years, Axe has helpted millions of guys get the girl with the Axe Effect,” says Axe brand manager Gem Laforteza. “Then we thought, 'how crazy can things get when both guys and girls spray on Axe?' That was the whole idea behind Axe Anarchy.”

The Cell for the Robbers.
The concluded Axe Anarchy Raid gets one hundred of the country's finest females and one of the country's luckiest males to run after one another in a wild take on an old kid's game. Executive Music Producer Adam Anders (Glee) helps tell the rock ‘n’ roll romance through cast versions of heart-pounding hits of Def Leppard, Poison, Journey, Twisted Sister, Bon Jovi, Joan Jett, Foreigner, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Whitesnake, and more. “Taking classic, beloved rock anthems and seeing them through the unique perspective of the characters in the film was such an exciting prospect for me in directing Rock of Ages,” said filmmaker Adam Shankman. “We had a phenomenal cast who performed these songs in such a powerful way—adding depth and meaningful imagery to the film. I was lucky to have a partner in Adam Anders who, better than anyone working today, understands how to take popular songs and seamlessly repurpose them to tell a story with unparalleled originality and success.”

As the larger-than-life, arena-rocking champ “Stacee Jaxx,” the Rock of Ages Soundtrack features Tom Cruise belting out Bon Jovi’s classic “Wanted Dead or Alive,” Def Leppard’s hit “Pour Some Sugar On Me,” and Guns ‘N Roses anthem “Paradise City.” Cruise also duets with Malin Akerman on Foreigner’s power ballad, “I Want To Know What Love Is,” and shares the mic with Julianne Hough on The Scorpions’ “Rock You Like A Hurricane.” The album also features an extraordinary medley of Night Ranger’s “Sister Christian,” David Lee Roth’s “Just Like Paradise,” and Poison’s “Nothin’ But A Good Time,” which features Julianne Hough, Diego Boneta, Russell Brand and Alec Baldwin. Also echoing through the soundtrack are mash-ups of songs that ruled the airwaves in the `80s, including Foreigner’s “Juke Box Hero” / Joan Jett’s “I Love Rock N Roll”; Extreme’s “More Than Words” / Warrant’s “Heaven”; Pat Benatar’s “Shadows Of The Night” / Quarterflash’s “Harden My Heart”; and Starship’s “We Built This City” woven into Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It,” all performed by the film’s cast.

New Line Cinema’s Rock of Ages comes to the big screen starting on June 15, 2012, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. The movie musical stars Julianne Hough (Burlesque), with actor/singer Diego Boneta in his feature film debut, Russell Brand (Arthur), Oscar® nominee Paul Giamatti (Cinderella Man), Academy Award® winner Catherine Zeta-Jones (Chicago), Malin Akerman (The Proposal), and R&B queen Mary J. Blige, with Oscar® nominees Alec Baldwin (The Cooler, TV’s 30 Rock) and Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Magnolia, Jerry Maguire).

Shankman directed Rock of Ages from a screenplay by Justin Theroux and Chris D’Arienzo and Allan Loeb, based on D’Arienzo’s musical of the same name. Adam Anders and Peer Astrom composed the original score and produced the songs featured in the film. Rock of Ages is produced by Matthew Weaver, Scott Prisand, Carl Levin, Tobey Maguire, Garrett Grant and Jennifer Gibgot, with Toby Emmerich, Richard Brener, Michael Disco, Samuel J. Brown, Hillary Butorac Weaver, Janet Billig Rich, Shankman and D’Arienzo serving as executive producers.

The official soundtrack of Rock of Ages is available in all select music stores nationwide and at the Philippines’ biggest online music store, visit www.mymusicstore.com.ph and register for free.

Seven–time Grammy Award winner Usher will release his eagerly anticipated new album LOOKING FOR MYSELF on June 2012, under Ivory Music & Video, the exclusive licensee of Sony Music in the Philippines. His seventh studio album, LOOKING FOR MYSELF will be available in both physical and digital editions.

The genre-defying lead single from LOOKING FOR MYSELF entitled "Climax," was written by Usher Raymond along with co-writers Redd Stylez, Ariel Rechtshaid, and Diplo, who also produced the single. “Climax” is receiving exceptional critical acclaim: Rolling Stone honored it with a 4 star review and calls it “Sexxxxxxy.”Pitchfork declares "Climax" "an exercise in the power of restraint, as Usher sings the woes of a romance stuck in limbo, alternating whispery falsettos and earnestly pained howls….Diplo shows uncharacteristic subtlety behind Usher's sentiment, with a beat that seems to hang suspended in midair.” The Los Angeles Times writes "Climax" "is rooted in pure soul, with Diplo employing sexy synths behind a dripping downbeat. Draw the curtains, light a candle and take a listen." Perez Hilton exclaims “LOVE IT!! This song is a trance-y, smooth HIT!! USA Today describes “Climax” as “Usher’s pulsing new single showcasing his silky-strong tenor” and Entertainment Weekly highlights Usher’s “steaming-hot falsetto.

The video for “Climax” which premiered March 9th on VEVO with already over 5.8 million views was directed by Sam Pilling and is a dramatic, highly-suspenseful and attention-gripping visual stunner. Watch it here!

Usher is currently in the studio putting the finishing touches on LOOKING FOR MYSELF, working with a host of top-notch collaborators including Salaam Remi, Diplo, Rico Love, Jim Jonsin, and Max Martin, among others.

LOOKING FOR MYSELF comes on the heels of his two multi-platinum chart-topping collaborations “Without You” by David Guetta which held the #1 spot on the Pop charts and “Promise” with Romeo Santos which held the #1 spot on the Latin charts. Usher has been ranked by the RIAA as one of the best-selling artists in American music history, having sold over 43 million albums worldwide. He has won numerous awards including seven Grammy Awards and was recently named the number one Hot 100 artist of the 2000s decade. Billboard named him the second most successful artist of the 2000s decade, with his career-propelling 2004 album Confessions being ranked as the top solo album of the 2000s decade. Usher has attained nine Hot 100 number-one hits (all as a lead artist) and has attained seventeen Hot 100 top-ten singles.
