Primetime King Coco Martin's Explosive Comeback in 'FPJ's Batang Quiapo' Captivates Fans Nationwide!

11:14:00 PM

The much-anticipated comeback of Primetime King Coco Martin to television was nothing short of phenomenal, as his new Kapamilya teleserye, “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo,” debuted with a spectacular pilot episode that captured the hearts of fans nationwide. This was evident in the overwhelming support and reception from fans who flocked to Plaza Miranda in Quiapo, Manila to witness the series' official poster unveiling and live public viewing of the one-hour long, action-packed pilot episode. The series' impressive performance on social media was also undeniable, with the show quickly trending on Twitter and generating an outstanding 341,509 live concurrent views on Kapamilya Online Live on YouTube, proving the insatiable appetite of the viewing public for quality entertainment.

Coco expressed his gratitude to the viewers for their overwhelming support and said, “Nakakatuwa kasi na-appreciate nila ‘yung pinaghirapan namin. Kasi talagang dugo at pawis ang pinagpuhunan namin para mapaganda namin ‘yung palabas ngayon. Susulitin namin ‘yung pagmamahal na ibinibigay nila sa amin.”

The public viewing capped-off Coco’s two-week long festivities to celebrate the premiere of “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo.” Earlier, Coco and his co-stars, led by Lovi Poe, Cherry Pie Picache, John Estrada, and McCoy de Leon, greeted fans who filled the streets in a festive-like parade that passed through Baclaran, Luneta, Quiapo, and Tondo and lasted almost four hours last February 9.

The official hashtag for the premiere of the series, #FPJsBatangQuiapoDay, was also the top trending topic on Twitter in the Philippines with over 22,000 tweets. Coco, as well as the tags "Primetime King Is Back” and “Plaza Miranda” also made it to the trending list on Twitter, while Miles Ocampo ranked among the worldwide trends for her emotional portrayal of a conflicted young mother.

The first episode of “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo” gave a series of backstories that started with how the high-speed chase for Ramon (Coco), a notorious criminal, led him to rape a stranger named Marites (Miles), in his desperate attempt to continue his bloodline. Later on, it was revealed that the child that Marites gave birth to is Tanggol (Coco).

Meanwhile, fans also flocked to Cebu last February 11 to witness the special performances of the “Batang Quiapo” cast during their mall show in Cebu.

Don’t miss the action-packed scenes in “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo,” which is inspired by the original story of Regal Films, on weeknights at 8 PM on Kapamilya Channel, A2Z, TV5, iWantTFC, and Kapamilya Online Live on ABS-CBN Entertainment’s YouTube channel and Facebook page. Viewers who use any digital TV box at home such as the TVplus box only need to rescan their device to be able to watch “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo” on TV5 and A2Z. Get ready for more explosive battles with the rise of the super soldiers who are set to be unified to beat the iconic superhero Darna (Jane De Leon) in “Mars Ravelo’s Darna,” the most talked-about Kapamilya series that stirred conversations and spawned Darna-related content with the #Darna and generated 2.3 billion combined views on TikTok in 2022.

Under the command of General Borgo (Richard Quan) are Narda’s former suitor Noah Vallesteros (Paolo Gumabao), her co-worker Andrei Abesamis (Young JV), Borgo’s aide Xandra (Kim Rodriguez), police officer Arthur Pineda (Eric Fructuoso), journalist Sigfried Cruz (Joshua Colet), Mayor Zaldy Vallesteros (Simon Ibarra), and his assistant Maisha Rodriguez (Dawn Chang), who all transformed as Extras and earned their superpowers. Also about to become a super soldier in the coming days is Regina’s (Janella Salvador) assistant Ali Corpuz (Mark Manicad) based on the series’ teaser.

Noah and Andrei first paired up to use their fiery and explosive powers to wreak havoc during a charity ball event, while Sigfried was given a serum to transform into an Extra after proving his loyalty to Borgo.

After revealing his connections to drug syndicates and Brian Robles’ (Joshua Garcia) dead father, police officer Arthur escaped from a hospital with Sigfried’s help to become Borgo’s ally.

When Mr. X, the mastermind behind the drug syndicates was unveiled to be Mayor Zaldy, he desperately attempted to escape Darna and the cops by injecting a serum on himself that turned him into a giant Extra with astounding muscular strength.

Meanwhile, his assistant Maisha frantically sought the help of businesswoman Victoria Villaceran (Carla Martinez) who turned out to be another Borgo’s identity. Maisha accepted the serum from Borgo and joined his soldiers of Extras.

With a group of super soldiers and her arch-nemesis Valentina plotting to cause even more danger, Darna is pushed to her limit as the stone’s protector who must save the people of Nueva Esperanza.

Vhong revealed that it took him some time to return to the show as he had to attend to important matters.

“Paglabas ko hindi ko pala kaya magbalik agad kasi may mga proseso pang kailangan gawin. Pero mabait yung Panginoon hindi niya ako pinabayaan kaya andito na ako. Maraming salamat sa ABS-CBN kasi may trabaho ako ulit. Nandito rin yung pamilya ko," he added.

Meanwhile, Vice Ganda shared that Vhong was unsure as to whether he would receive the same enthusiastic reception from the madlang people.

“Paulit-ulit ko na lang na pinaalala sa kanya na kung makakagaan sa dibdib niya na mas nararamdaman namin kung gaano ka nila kamahal. I don't usually read comments pero kung tungkol sa iyo binabasa ko. More than 95% ng comments tungkol sa pagmamahal at suporta sa iyo. Called To Rescue Philippines Launch Its short film, ‘Graduation’

10:15:00 PM

Many of the advocacy films produced are mainly because of the need to inform and be known what is happening to a specific organization or group. Many of which are sometimes negatively stereotyped like boring or too-chatty or wordy film. Probably that was in some advocacy campaign film. So, with this Called to Rescue Philippines (CTR PH) which happens to have launched a short film at the KMC Armstrong Cafe will have a film to talk about. The short film stars popular young celebrities Donny Pangilinan and Nourijune Hooshmand that aims to raise awareness on the recovery and reintegration of human trafficking survivors to the society.

Written and directed by international filmmaker Dean Colin Marcial, the film ‘GRADUATION’ is about a young woman played by Nourijune, who fell into depression after surviving human trafficking. Through the support of her brother, played by Donny, she was able to slowly get back on her feet.

Beyond Rescuing
GRADUATION was the brainchild of Marcial, CTR PH Advocacy Head Abby Anciano, and CTR PH President Anthony Pangilinan. The three, advocates and active volunteers of CTR PH, found the need to bring emphasis not only to a survivor’s rescue, but to their reintegration to society as well.

“Bakit hanggang rescue nalang? Yung after-rescue rin kailangan. [This project] was out of frustration for me, and is one of the reasons I decided to do this,” Anthony explained.

“Our main focus [was on a] survivor’s reintegration into society. It’s something that I drew on, something Donny and Nourijune drew on as well,” Dean expressed.

From there, the two gathered a team of volunteers to bring the short film to life. With help from family, friends, clients, and donors, Graduation was set out to be one purpose-driven production.

Heeding The Call
The short film centers Cinemalaya actress Nourijune Hooshmand and Star Cinema actor Donny Pangilinan. Donny is a long-time anti-human trafficking advocate, while both are currently active CTR PH volunteers. Director Dean Marcial, script-writer and director of the film, handpicked the two for the starring roles.

When asked about participating in the project, Nourijune and Donny expressed no hesitation whatsoever.

“When Dean accepted to go through this project, alongside Nour, it’s not something I had to think twice about,” said Donny, “I specifically chose to do this. I really believe this is something we needed to do.”

“This [advocacy] is really important work. I’m very thankful that I had this opportunity. I’m really happy to be a part of this,” Nourijune shared.

Everyone Is Called To Rescue
Doctor Cyndi Romine, international director of Called To Rescue, noted: “The film is for everybody because we all know somebody. To assume we don’t know somebody would be an error on our part.”

Though people might wonder who this film is truly for, whether it’s for those rescued or those taking care of the rescued, Graduation is a film made to touch all audiences who view it. It sheds light on the significance of aftercare work and a loving community — a part of healing that is more often than not, overlooked.

“Once a person is rescued, you need to meet a lot of people and still go through the journey with the help of people who love you,” Donny noted.

“The bond of family is different, and knowing someone is there for you can really help what you’re healing from,” Nourijune adds.

Through the 5-minute film, CTR PH hopes to draw attention to the post-rescue challenges of trafficking survivors and promote the collective role of community (especially family members) in addressing their needs, supporting their rehabilitation process, and cultivating a safe space for their ongoing journey of healing.

“It takes a village to raise a child: It takes a village to heal a child,” Anthony shared. Everyone is called to rescue.

GRADUATION was made possible with the generous donors: Magic Crackers, Jollibee, Grab Philippines, KMC Solutions, Cabalen, MediCard Philippines, and LabX Corporation.

The old meets new in latest GMA historical portal fantasy series ‘Maria Clara at Ibarra’

11:05:00 PM

Something to make our viewing habit a little out of the ordinary. GMA Network proudly presents the next important television milestone that will make history and love for the country a fun learning experience via “Maria Clara at Ibarra.”

From the creators of Encantadia, Amaya, Sahaya and Legal Wives, GMA Entertainment Group once again sets the bar high for world-class entertainment and innovative concepts as it brings to Filipino homes the newest historical portal fantasy series airing weeknights on GMA Telebabad.

The much-anticipated series is top-billed by 2016 Fantasporto International Best Actress and Kapuso Primetime Princess Barbie Forteza as Klay, Asia’s Limitless Star Julie Anne San Jose as Maria Clara, and Kapuso Drama King Dennis Trillo as Ibarra.

Dennis shares his long preparation for the crucial and iconic character of Ibarra, “Dapat tama lahat ng salitang bibigkasin mo, ‘yung kilos, pag-arte at pananamit. Maraming dapat isipin para maging authentic ang mga eksena at paniwalaan na nangyari talaga siya noong unang panahon. Importante na basahing maigi ang script para makita ang dynamics ng eksena kapag nag-meet na ang past at present.”

Barbie recalls the moment when GMA offered her the role of Klay, “Tuwang-tuwa ako, nung una hindi pa ko naniwala agad kasi napakalaking project niya. Mas lalo akong bumilib sa GMA dahil kahit dumaan ang pandemya, hindi sila tumigil na tumalakay sa importanteng issues ng bansa at balikan ang kasaysayan natin. Metikulosong binusisi ang programang ito and I’m very thankful to be part of it.”

Julie Anne, on the other hand, reiterates the most exciting part of her role and how it inspires her in real life, “Si Maria Clara kasi napaka-iconic niya eh. We all know her as a symbol of hope, purity and sacrifice. Ine-embody niya 'yung isang babae na may pinaglalaban sa buhay and pinaglalaban niya 'yung mga karapatan niya.”

Playing equally important roles in the series are Mr. Tirso Cruz III as Padre Damaso,  a Franciscan friar who has deep-seated resentment against Ibarra; Ms. Manilyn Reynes as Narsing, the softhearted and loving mother of Klay; Rocco Nacino as Elias, a fugitive who will become Ibarra’s devoted supporter; David Licauco as Fidel, a playboy businessman and Ibarra’s friend; Juancho Trivino as Padre Salvi, a cunning and ruthless friar who has secret desire for Maria Clara; Mr. Juan Rodrigo as Kapitan Tiago, the influential gobernadorcillo and a friend of the friars; Ms. Ces Quesada as Tiya Isabel, the cousin of Kapitan Tiago who raised Maria Clara as her own child; Mr. Dennis Padilla as Mang Adong, a loyal servant of Ibarra; Mr. Lou Veloso as Mr. Jose Torres, the professor of Klay in Rizal studies and the reason behind her time travel; Ms. Gilleth Sandico as Donya Victorina, a pretentious Filipina who tries to look and speak like a mestiza; Karenina Haniel as Victoria, the close friend of Maria Clara.

Completing the powerhouse cast is the special participation of Andrea Torres as Sisa, the affectionate mother of Crispin and Basilio who loses her mind while searching for her sons.

‘Maria Clara at Ibarra’ follows the story of Klay, a Gen Z nursing student who aims to work and bring her family abroad. She is almost graduating soon, but not until she failed a minor subject—the Rizal Studies. Klay believes that this subject is irrelevant to her life and future career.

Mr. Jose Torres, Klay’s professor, gave her another chance to pass Rizal Studies and he lent her a book of Noli Me Tangere. Klay had not even read several pages of the novel when she got bored and fell asleep.

The mystery begins when Klay wakes up in the world of Noli Me Tangere! Much to her surprise, Klay finds Mr. Torres in the alternate timeline. Klay was told that she can only return to the present once she finishes the book and learns all the lessons from the novel of Dr. Jose Rizal.

As she navigates the real world of Noli Me Tangere, Klay meets Maria Clara, Crisostomo Ibarra, the curates, the ilustrados, and the indios. This will open her eyes from the realities and sufferings of ancient Filipinos during the Spanish colonization.

Amid her historical adventure, Klay forms a bond with Maria Clara and discovers the differences and similarities of a Filipina, then and now. She also witnesses the love story of Maria Clara and Ibarra. Will Klay become the bridge to strengthen their existing relationship or will she develop feelings for him instead? As Klay gets attached to the world of Noli Me Tangere, will it create chaos or clarity in her life? Can someone change history and will it bring Klay back to her real life?

The show’s Creative Consultant, Suzette Doctolero, shares the extensive research they have been doing to ensure the quality of this complex story that tackles history, “Required ang buong creative team na magbasa hindi lang ng Noli Me Tangere at El Filibusterismo kundi pati ng iba pang libro tungkol sa Philippine history. Mahalaga rin na mismong mga writers, may stand sa mga importanteng usapin sa kasaysayan.”

Esteemed Director Zig Dulay also reveals their efforts to keep the accuracy and credibility of Rizal’s novels by hiring consultants for the show, “May historians at consultants kami. Meron din kaming kinuhang language coach ng Spanish. For sure ang audience, hindi lang sila ma-e-entertain kundi matututo rin at magkakaroon ng actions sa iba’t ibang issue. Bukod pa sa kwento ng pag-iibigan, tungkol din ito sa pag-ibig sa bayan. ”

This series is made possible under the supervision of GMA SVP for Entertainment Group Lilybeth G. Rasonable; VP for Drama Cheryl Ching-Sy; AVP for Drama Helen Rose Sese; Program Manager Edlyn Tallada; and Executive Producer Shielyn Atienza.

The creative team behind this groundbreaking drama is composed of Creative Director Aloy Adlawan; Content Development Consultant Ricky Lee; Historical Consultants Ramon Guillermo and Gonzalo Campoamor; Head Writer J-Mee Katanyag; Writers Brylle Tabora and Benson Logronio; and Brainstormers Zita Garganera and Melchor Escarcha.

Let’s all remember the past with a twist and catch the world premiere of Maria Clara at Ibarra this October 3 at 8PM, weeknights, on GMA and at 9:40PM, Mondays to Fridays, on GTV.

Viewers abroad can also catch the program via GMA Pinoy TV. For more stories about the Kapuso Network, visit www.GMANetwork.com.
