Sponge Cola’s “Labis-labis” RomCom Music Video Star Two Lovely Puppies

5/24/2021 07:32:00 AM

When cuteness invades the music video? It's very rare for a music video to star cute, lovely, and adorable puppies, as Sponge Cola and its creative team made something extraordinary. It's a love story but this love story is not your usual story of a love team, but these are two puppies fall in love in the most adorable, unexpected ways on the music video of Sponge Cola’s “Labis-labis”—out now on YouTube. Showcasing unadulterated romance from the perspective of pets, the visual narrative steps into the world of meet-cute and courtship between two-year-old poodle, Alex and six-year-old mixed-breed aspin, Jamie.

According to guitarist Armo Armovit, the romantic comedy-inspired story pays tribute to the unconditional loyalty and friendship that their pets have given them through the years. “We all have pets and love them very dearly, and this is our way of saying thanks.” Vocalist and guitarist Yael Yuzon shares the same sentiment, honoring the dogs that have been with them through thick and thin. “My dogs have been taking care of me. It makes sense to pay tribute to Mini Me and Finny Finn Finn.”

The music video of “Labis-labis” is directed by Robin Estargo, whose great passion for storytelling not only exceeded expectations, but also handled the material well with the right balance of effervescent wit and heartwarming appeal. “It was a treat (pun intended) working with Robin and the entire KeepFilming Inc. crew,” said drummer Tedmark Cruz. “Their creativity, passion, and professionalism were evident in all the pre-prod meetings over Zoom, up until the post prod finishing touches.”

Yuzon echoes Cruz’s statement, adding how giddy and excited Robin and the KeepFilming team were, during the storyboard discussion. “It's always nice to work with people who are passionate about their work. The belief in the love story between the two dogs was intense from the very start, and it was contagious and inspiring.”

Having experienced shooting several video projects involving dogs, Estargo and his production team know how challenging it is to pull off a compelling narrative that features pets as main casts. “Working with one dog can be quite draining, so what more two? It's like working with toddlers! We have to adjust to their moods all the time and treat them with utmost patience.”

Despite the difficulty during the filmmaking process, the team was lucky to cast two dogs that specifically met the criteria they were looking for: “Number one most definitely is that they have to be trained dogs that can do a few or even more tricks,” Estargo shares. “Second, they have to be smaller in size so they'd be easier to handle on set. And third, the dogs should be familiar with each other offhand - and much better if they have the same trainer or owner, so we won't have a problem on set as these dogs work with each other. We were looking for one aspin and one with a certain breed.”

Aldo Vidal, a 63-year-old dog trainer for 26 years, submitted an audition video for his two dogs through his daughter, and the rest as they say, is history. “We definitely made the right decision in casting their dogs because they are not just a joy to work with and Sir Aldo, as their owner, has also been so accommodating and giving during the shoot,” Estargo tells in a statement. “He worked hard to make sure we got the takes we wanted and exuded that positive and endearing dad vibes that we all loved.” The music video of “Labis-labis” is out now on YouTube via Sony Music Philippines.

Viewers can also get hope and inspiration from “Huwag Kang Mangamba,” where Mira (Andrea Brillantes) and Joy (Francine Diaz) are slowly but surely bringing the town of Hermoso closer to Bro while strengthening their efforts to rebuild the town’s church.

The past comes back to haunt the present in “Init sa Magdamag,” where the worlds of former lovers Tupe (Gerald Anderson) and Rita (Yam Concepcion) are bound to collide as they work together on a community project.

SB19 Pays Homage To Their Parents Through Their Latest Rousing Ballad “MAPA”

5/19/2021 10:10:00 PM

With or without pandemic SB19 is sure a hit not only here in the Philippines but in the international music scene as well. Fresh from scoring a 2021 Billboard Music Awards nomination for Top Social Artist along with some of the world’s most celebrated pop acts, SB19 continues to push the envelope with the release of their new song “MAPA” under Sony Music.

In a complete 180-degree turn from the colossal banger that introduced the upcoming album era, “MAPA” takes the form of a rousing ballad that captures SB19 at their most emotionally expressive element. It’s hellbent on returning home with a heartwarming tribute to every parent out there, who has brought direction to our lives every time we feel lost and in need of a north star.

The title, which is a Filipino term that translates to “map” in English, is a portmanteau of “mama” and “papa.” Combining both words, Pablo penned the track to “inspire people to be appreciative of everything that our parents did for us and to give back.”

The multi-talented member of the acclaimed pop group also explained the inspiration behind the song’s title. “It implies that our parents serve as our guidance and direction in life. We released this song to show gratitude and appreciation for helping us survive all the challenges and difficulties that we’ve encountered growing up.”

Even before the pandemic happened and during their concert tour, SB19 had lesser time going home to be with their families. This prompted the multi-awarded global sensation to honor their love for their parents through a pop song primed to endure timelessness. “Pablo first composed the melody, getting inspiration from a lullaby that his mother would sing to him when he was a child,” said SB19’s Josh. “He wanted to make a song that conveys the feeling of being taken care of by one’s parents. He proceeded to write lyrics that equate our parents as the ‘map’ that guides us to be the best versions of ourselves.”

Just in time for Mother’s Day celebration last week, the Filipino boyband started the #DearMAPA campaign to express their gratitude to their parents and encouraged A’TIN to do the same. The hashtag trended at No.1 on Twitter Philippines, and launched thousands of touching messages from their fans. SB19 also revealed the logo trailer for “MAPA” a few days before the song’s actual release.

“MAPA” is out now on all digital platforms worldwide via Sony Music.

Saying "Yes" to Beauty Inclusivity: Inspiring Stories of Women who Embraced their Individuality through Livestreaming

5/19/2021 08:59:00 AM

This is something interesting to know, especially those faces that you see on Shopee livestreams. Read the story. Coming to terms with yourself, flaws and all—and in the age of social media, no less—can be difficult. When unrealistic beauty standards are reinforced everywhere you look, self-acceptance doesn’t always come easy.

As a top beauty and personal care company in the country, Unilever acknowledges its role in championing a new era of beauty. Through projects such as Dove My Hair, My Say and Real Beauty, Unilever resolves to make beauty a positive and inclusive experience for all. As its next step towards celebrating the beauty in diversity, Unilever launches Yes to Positive Beauty on Shopee this May 17-19. The campaign aims to encourage Filipinos to embrace their unique beauty, support inclusivity, and say “Yes” to Positive Beauty.

Need a little inspiration saying “Yes” to Positive Beauty yourself? Follow two Shopee livestreamers’ journeys to self-love below:

Bianca Umali

Bianca Umali calls her foray into livestreaming ‘a leap of faith.’ A year later after taking the plunge, however, Bianca shares that pushing the boundaries of her capabilities was one of the best things she’s ever done for herself. “Embracing yourself, I've realized, is not about staying in one place. It's also about branching out to the different facets of your being.”

Bianca admits that she used to hate her chinita eyes and longed for double eyelid surgery. Now that she recognizes that she does not have to follow unrealistic beauty standards, Bianca is determined to create authentic content as a public figure. She frequently goes live sans makeup. “My viewers can see me raw and unedited, and in turn, they get to see me as a real human being. They’ve seen me with dark circles, blemishes, and puffiness.”

One simple step towards embracing yourself, according to Bianca, is to filter your media consumption. “Our self-image only gets shattered when we are made to believe we do not measure up. Fight this belief by being in command of what you take in, and you will always see yourself as beautiful.”

Mary Grace Khu

Mary Grace Khu used to believe that only people with model-esque features could land jobs as on-cam talents. She eventually realized that her shape, size, and skin tone shouldn’t hinder her from going after her dreams, and thereafter snagged a job in the industry.

As a public figure, MG still feels self-conscious from time to time about strangers’ opinions, but for the most part, she has found a supportive community in her viewers. She credits this to her authenticity and drives to advocate self-love online. “I am taking this as an opportunity to share my experiences and stories. I will always be real about it, as it would be hard to sustain if you're trying to pretend or be like someone else.”

MG also believes that beauty isn’t one dimensional. “I see beauty in a holistic manner: being healthy, having a positive mindset, and being confident in my own skin.” She adds that it is through one’s personality that true beauty radiates, and so she endeavors to bring sunshine to others by spreading positivity through her content.

5 Things To Do in Banff

5 Things To Do in Banff

Adventure, fun, and excitement are some reasons why people enjoy going out and experiencing the outdoors. It is one way of communing with nature. The closer you get to the environment, the more you understand the value of life. Though most people consider going out as a breather for all the stress, still, the mountains and everything around it is there to give us the joy of being outside and liberated.

Speaking of wild and free, and independent, a country with so much more to offer when it comes to outdoor and nature, Canada has an appealing view for every adventurer. A town in Alberta, Canada, brings you not only in the wilderness but also lets you see parts of its historical past.

The town of Banff is one of the many unique towns. Aside from being a resort town, Banff is one of the towns settled inside a National Park. The establishment of Banff was in 1883, after the arrival of the Canadian Pacific Railway. Later, the Banff National Park was instituted, having the town included in the entirety of the park. In 1990, Canada included Banff as one of the municipalities. It was also the first to be incorporated inside a national park.

Since the town is inside a National Park, do they have Banff homes for sale? I couldn't imagine living in a place with all the beauty and sceneries of nature around you, but if it is permitted, I sure do want to own a property in that area. And I can enjoy these different activities.

Hike the Mountain Trails in Summer

If you're seeking the thrill of the mountain, Alberta, Canada, is one of the places to visit. And the town of Banff is the one to discover for yourself. It is the rocky and mountainous part of Alberta. In winter, its icy glacial part beams a perfect scenic view, but when its snowy part starts to melt, its wilderness portion springs the beauty of the mountain. It is the best place to enjoy a good trail hike.

Many adventurers visit this part of Banff for its fascinating trails and the wilderness part of the park. So, if you're in for a long perspiring hike, this activity is perfect. You can pump up yourself with a good fresh air of the mountain and at the same time enjoy the natural beauty of nature.

Wildlife Viewing

The preservation of National Parks is because of their beauty, value, and importance. But mainly, National Parks are sustained for their ecosystem. The wildlife and the system that they have to maintain the balance of nature. The preservation of the living creatures inside of these parks.

If you love taking photos of animals and different creatures, you can spend a day or two or even more in Banff National Park to see these lovely mammals, birds, and other creatures that are endemic to Banff. Maybe you can find your next Photo Piece for the National Geographer here in Banff.

Trail Around on Horseback

If you're back is aching on long walks, you can still enjoy the beauty of Banff by borrowing the back of the horses and ride with them. Banff got these one or three-hour tours around the places of Bow River with a river crossing adventure to experience.

You get to enjoy the view even more from a higher perspective than hiking.

Go Back in History

If remembering the past is a memory lane for you, you might not want to consider including this activity in your list of things to do in Banff. But if you're an old soul who is fascinated with history and past stories, then you might want to feast your eyes and ears on this.

The Banff Park Museum is where they showcase the natural history of western Canada. According to some articles about the museum, it was a log cabin constructed in 1903. I think it is the oldest museum in Canada. Imagine the preservation of historical items, displaying the diverse flora and fauna. It is considered a heritage site of Canada.

Canoe Your Way in the River

If you love canoeing, you can always try the adventure in the water by trailing the Bow River riding on a canoe. Honestly, I haven't tried canoeing, but, if visiting Banff will let me experience it, then it would be captivating.

Aside from these five activities to do in Banff, you can still have more things to do. All you need is the courage to be adventurous.

Grab Philippines Launches GrabBayanihan Vaccination Support Program

5/18/2021 08:35:00 PM

Something good news for all! Grab Philippines launched its GrabBayanihan Vaccination Support Program to help increase vaccine access and education for Filipinos. The program includes a range of measures to encourage all consumers and driver- and delivery-partners to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Grab Philippines will also work closely with the national and local government units and leverage its ground fleet network and app to offer mobility, communications, and logistics support for their respective vaccination programs.

In a recent survey conducted by Pulse Asia, it revealed that 61 percent of Filipinos don’t wish to get inoculated with a COVID-19 vaccine even if the shot is available. GrabBayanihan Vaccination Support Program is focused on vaccine access and education. As the Philippines begins to roll out vaccinations, Grab is committed to supporting informed and equitable access to vaccines for all Filipinos.

Access: To support easy access to the COVID-19 vaccine and to encourage its employees, partners, and consumers to get vaccinated through the local government units, Grab Philippines is committed to:
  • Work with local and national governments to include Grab driver- and delivery-partners in the National Vaccination Program of the Philippine Government as economic frontliners.
  • Work with its partners to provide pre- and post-vaccination telemedical consultation to help identify the comorbidity status of its driver- and delivery-partners, and connect them with their local governments for inoculation.
  • Extend its Post-Vaccination Livelihood Protection insurance policy free of charge to cover the potential loss of income to driver- and delivery-partners resulting from COVID-19 vaccine side effects.
  • Create a specialized fleet of vaccinated driver-partners to provide discounted mobility solutions for senior citizens and high-risk individuals or those with comorbidities going to and from vaccination centers.
  • Subject to vaccine supply availability, Grab Philippines will subsidize the cost of COVID-19 vaccines for driver- and delivery-partners who are not covered by the national vaccination program.
  • Cover the cost of COVID-19 vaccinations for all Grab Philippines employees and their immediate family members.
Education: Grab Philippines is working closely with the Department of Health to provide up-to-date vaccination information to combat misinformation and boost public confidence in COVID-19 vaccines.
  • Together with the Department of Health, Grab Philippines will publish accurate vaccine and other public health information within dedicated high-visibility spaces in the Grab app.
  • To help governments better understand the public sentiment around vaccines, Grab Philippines will launch a “COVID-19 Snap Survey”. The survey will enable the Department of Health to conduct lightning polls to gather real-time data on vaccine sentiment. Grab hopes this will enable public health authorities to better tailor their vaccine strategy.
  • Grab Philippines will also conduct a series of workshops and town halls to educate its driver-, delivery-, and merchant-partners on the benefits of getting vaccinated.
Grab Philippines Country Head Grace Vera Cruz said: “Many of our kababayans spent the last year making enormous sacrifices for our communities - showing the best of who we are as Filipinos. Now that we are gradually striving towards socio-economic recovery, we believe that the vaccination efforts- from both the private and public sectors- provide much-needed hope for many of our kababayans. Through Grab Philippines’ technology, platform, and partnerships, we are reinforcing our commitment to supporting livelihoods, and helping the recovery of our communities.”

PINOY PRIDE IS HIGH IN ABS-CBN AND ELECTRIC ENTERTAINMENT’S “ALMOST PARADISE”

5/16/2021 06:36:00 AM

ABS-CBN and Electric Entertainment’s historic crime drama series “Almost Paradise” overflows with Pinoy pride as it continues to champion Filipino talent in its last two weeks on Kapamilya Channel and A2Z.

Like in the previous eight episodes, the Filipino cast and crew of the American crime drama series promise world-class entertainment in the final two chapters in the story of former U.S. secret agent Alex Walker (Christian Kane), who was drawn back to his old life after retiring in the island paradise of Cebu.

According to ABS-CBN International Production and Co-Production Division Head Ruel Bayani, the company really wanted to show the world the quality of content made by Filipinos through this project.

“Ito ay malaking pagkakataon para maipagmalaki at ipayakap sa mundo ang ating talento at ating kakayahan,” he said in a virtual media conference held on May 12 with the entire “Almost Paradise” team and main cast.

All artists that played a role in the show underwent stringent auditions, including the main Filipino cast of Nonie Buencamino, Art Acuña, Samantha Richelle, Ces Quesada, and Angeli Bayani, and guest stars like ZsaZsa Padilla, Sophia Reola, Richard Yap, Raymond Bagatsing, Noel Trinidad, Lotlot de Leon, Ryan Eigenmann, and Ketchup Eusebio, among many others.

“I think isa sa pinaka-naappreciate ko is ‘yung process of audition. Kasi sa audition you make sure that the right people get the roles. So pagdating sa shooting, you’re confident na they can do their roles,” shared Ces.

Nonie also liked that they had their scripts ahead. “There was a lot of time to read, think, and analyze. So I have a lot of attacks come shooting day,” he shared. His character police chief Ike Ocampo, he said, is very principled and honest like him in real-life.

Art, who has done a variety of roles both for local and international productions, said he also connected very much with his role as detective Ernesto Alamares, “It’s one of my most favorite characters to play.”

While a newcomer in the industry, Samantha was well-praised by her co-actors and producers in her portrayal of Kai Mendoza. For her, the project was a blessing and a joy to do.

“I had the time of my life just being able to learn from the veteran actors and just the quality of the people's talents. I was just very fortunate to work with them.”

Behind the camera, “Almost Paradise” showrunner Dean Devlin, the CEO of Electric Entertainment and famous Hollywood producer of films like “Independence Day,” “Godzilla,” and “The Patriot” also worked with a Filipino staff and crew. Moreover, the program has four Filipino directors in Dan Villegas (Episode 4), Francis Dela Torre (Episode 3 and 7), Hannah Espia (Episode 6 and 9), and Irene Villamor (Episode 8).

According to Dan, while there were adjustments in the filmmaking process, they all took away new knowledge from their experience in the show.

“I was surprised how professional foreign actors were. Pagdating nila sa set memorized na nila ang script. I also appreciated how everything is pre-approved before the shoot. ’Yung mga natutunan ko sa Almost Paradise, ina-apply ko na sa mga shoots ko,” shared Dan.

“The themes are very universal and maraming nakapaloob na genres. It speaks to a wider audience,” Hannah also said about the global appeal of the show.

Francis and Irene, meanwhile, both believe the series gave foreign audiences a different look at the Philippines.

They and the local team surely got the admiration and respect of Dean, and the show’s lead star, Hollywood actor Christian Kane, who cherish the love they have been receiving during and after the filming of “Almost Paradise.”

“I was treated more like family there than I have ever been my entire life. It just felt like home. I have some of the best people around me. They welcomed me in and so I got to concentrate on the character and not being away from home,” said Christian, who starred in U.S. TV series and movies like “Angel,” “Leverage,” “The Librarians,” “Just Married,” and “Taxi.”

Dean also shared that among all the projects he has done, “everybody seems to like Almost Paradise,” especially among Filipinos abroad like him.

“We are getting so many heartfelt letters and DMs from Filipinos here and around the world who are saying that they feel seen. To have this show where we are really changing minds and hearts, it adds a sense of pride in the show not just for the Filipinos in the Philippines but for Filipinos everywhere. It captures the heart of why Filipinos are such wonderful and special people,” he said.

The first American TV series shot entirely in the Philippines, “Almost Paradise” features the beauty of Mactan, Cebu. But aside from the country’s natural beauty, also worth seeing in the program are the realistic sets that the local production team of ABS-CBN built for the show, such as the police station and yacht.

The team gave their blood and sweat to the project in their desire to give Filipinos a program they will be proud of, and to prove that the local entertainment industry can stand toe-to-toe with Hollywood.

Meanwhile, viewers should watch for the exciting events coming in “Almost Paradise,” which has brought light and joy to Filipinos since March 21. In the episode this Sunday (May 16), which features guest actors Sophia Reola, Isay Alvarez, Teroy Guzman, Miko Raval, Boom Labrusca, Joel Molina, and Lesley Lina, Kai (Samantha Richelle) is in danger as Alex gets entangled in her undercover operation. In the finale, expect more drama and action as Alex tries to save her daughter when a person from his past returns for revenge.

Don’t miss the last two episodes of “Almost Paradise” every Sunday, 8:45 pm on Kapamilya Channel, A2Z, iWantTFC, and Kapamilya Online Live (KOL) on Facebook and YouTube. Viewers in the Philippines can re-watch the latest episode for seven days after it streamed on KOL. They can also watch all previous episodes, in English or Filipino, on iWantTFC. Remake of the Tausog Song "Ina Ku Kalasahan" Gives Honor to All Mothers, A Gift from Cebuano Singer KERVIN KANE

5/14/2021 10:07:00 PM

This is a touching ode to all mothers, Cebu-based singer-songwriter Kervin Kane put his pop-rock spin to a special ode to moms comprising of Tausug, Cebuano, and Tagalog lyrics entitled “Ina Ku Kalasahan (Mahal Kong Inay).”

In an interview on MOR Entertainment’s digital show “Good Time ‘To,” Kervin said the heartbreaking song is about a mother who is gone too soon, a reminder for listeners to express their gratitude for their moms while they still can.

Mang Takbil composed the original Tausug song, which now includes additional Tagalog and Cebuano lyrics in the remake. Ryan Sarmiento produced the new single released by ABS-CBN’s rock/alternative label DNA Music.

The original “Ina Ku Kalasahan” became popular in Tawi-Tawi a decade ago. In 2016, “MMK” also played the track in one of its episodes. A Malaysian soul and R&B artist based in Sabah named Min Yasmin also recorded her own version of the touching ballad.

Twenty-eight-year-old Kervin Kane is a mellow pop-rock musician and multi-instrumentalist who hails from Camotes Island, Cebu. He also recently released an original song “Pelikula” which has a hit music video featuring the “Pinoy Big Brother: Otso” #AshTan tandem composed of Ashley del Mundo and Tan Roncal.

Stream “Ina Ku Kalasahan” on various music streaming platforms and watch its lyric video on DNA Music’s YouTube channel. For updates on Kervin Kane’s music, follow DNA Music on Facebook (facebook.com/dnamusicph), Twitter and Instagram (@dnamusicph).
