Check Your Status in UnOfficially Yours

9:30:00 PM
I'm sure there will be more "kilig moments" this coming February 15, after the celebration of Valentines Day and also lots of couples will be checking their relationship status as well.

Does relationships need labels?  What defines a relationship?  Romance?  Intimacy? Sexual compatibility? honest-to-goodness love? are all just question lingering in every couple.  Relationship does have lots of meanings and reason it's just a matter of how we may define it.

This is the theme for one of the newest movie form Star Cinema, the "UnOfficially Yours"!
Under the direction of the box-office director, Cathy Garcia-Molina, the story of "UnOfficially Yours" starts out with a one night stand of the two lead characters!  "Ito na ang pinaka-matapang kong pelikula as fas as theme is concerned!"  says Director Cathy, "Basically it's a sotry about a guy who believes so much in love then falls in love with someone who doesn't want to fall in love.  Nagkataon kasi na the girl practices casual relationship, non-committal, no ties, ayaw n'y ng boyfriend-girlfriend, basta for fun lang!  Then the character of the guy, gusto s'yang paniwalain ulit sa love, na better pa din pag pormal na relasyon than a casual relationship!' she explains.

Aside from the brave theme, what makes "UnOfficially yours" extremely exciting is that it stars two of the country's most loved and admired actors, John Lloyd cruz and Angel Locsin! "Madaming firsts sa pelikulang 'to!" says John Lloyd, 'First time namin ni Angle sa big screen, first time namin pareho sa ganitong klaseng roles, first time ng Star Cinema na sumabak sa ganitong tema na masasabing taboo pero nangyayari naman talaga sa paligid natin pero hindi lang komportable ang marami na pag-usapan.  It's a bold step to tackle this theme, pero s'yempre with the touch of Star Cinema, talagang puso, 'yung pinaka-puso ng mg acharacters ang mapapanood dito.  This is really something new!  Something  very different!" he tells.  As the movie's theme dictates, the two will be seen in a "hot" love scene, "But that's not the movie's point!"  John Lloyd excliams and furthers, "it will be portrayed pero ang pinka-importante sa kuwento eh 'yung magiging learning ng mg acharacters namin - 'yung tama ba o hindi na i-define ang isang relationship!" he closes.

Angel Locsin, on the other hand has this to say, "gusto naming ipakit asa mga tao kung ano ba ang casual relatioship.

Extremely exciting indeed! "UnOfficially Yours" may just make us all think and rethink our relationships! It's highs and lows, joys and pain, fun and no fun, casual or formal.  "It's still a love sotry! Iba man ang paraan ng pagkukuwento namin dito, at the end of the day, it still talks about love, it talks about how beautiful lov eis!  How better it is to love than not having love at all!"  Director Cathy beams as she closes.

Now, do we really need to define relationship at all?

"UnOfficially Yours" opens on Feburary 15th, 2012 in over 100 theaters nationwide!

A Blogger's Night with Sabrina

8:21:00 PM

It was one of those nights where I enjoyed having time with some of the OPM Artists.  One, it's because it gives me a little rejuvenation after a whole day work at the office and two, hey it's our OPM artist getting to know them more, the better.  Since one of our advocacy is to support OPM Artist, this is really a good event to enjoy their music and know more of their craft.

Last Monday, for this specific night, I get a chance to be part of a pool of bloggers who get a chance for a greet and meet of one of the bubbliest female acoustic artist that I know, her screen name is SABRINA.   Beautiful, sweet and the most part "Kalog".  It's very rare to meet an artist like her.  Just what I have wrote on one of my tweets that "It was really great knowing a singer like you who praises God above all."

The evening was great for a much more intimate and interactive chat with Sabrina plus the place at Red Box: Rock, Dine, Roll was much comfy and private, so we get more chance to hear about Sabrina's background and her lovely voice.

For those who doesn't know who Sabrina was, well here's a little background about her.  Her real name is Roli Alexandra Ngo Orial or known as Xanxan.  Born in 1989 under the zodiac sign Capricorn.  Hey here's something that I'm sure everybody would normally ask why SABRINA when her name is Roli Alexandra, well according to her it was given by the previous management and since her voice were inline with bossa nova songs.  A latin feel for the voice and for the name.

Here are a portion of the video during the chat with Sabrina.

Well for the benefit other readers who doesn't know Sabrina, she's an acoustic sweetheart in Asia and Sabrina releases her follow-up single from her highly successful "I Love Acoustic 4" album her own version of the hit "Moves Like Jagger".

Another news is that last November the "I Love Acoustic 4" turned GOLD in Indonesia and this month, it is certified PLATINUM in that country.  This makes Sabrina one of the few Filipino singers to have multi-platinum success in Indonesia which other singers have tried but failed to penetrate.  The "I Love Acoustic 4" was also released in Thailand and soon in Singapore and Malaysia.  Her previous albums "I Love Acoustic", "I Love Acoustic Too" and "I Love Acoustic 3" were multi-platinum success in those countries.  She's the only Filipino female singer to break in successfully in the South East Asian market,  Her huge following abroad is now translating locally as the album is still in retail charts where it debuted at #1 at Astroplus and #9 at Odyssey upon its first week of release.  Because of her success abroad, she became a recipient of the "International Achievement Award at the recent Awit Awards where she also took home the I-Geteway Mobile Philippines, Inc.'s Most Downloaded Artist for 2010.

The album also includes the tracks "Price Tag", "Who Says", "Edge of Glory", "On the Floor", "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)", "California King Bed", "Hold It Against Me", "Rolling In The Deep", "The Lazy Song", "Back To December", "that should Be Me", "Marry Me", "Rockeeter", "Just The Way You Are" featuring Indonesian singer Calvin Jeremy and "Lucky" featuring multi-platinum crooner Richard Poon.

Catch Sabrina as she serenades SM Pasig on February 17 (Friday) at 4 pm.  those who will buy her album "I Love Acoustic 4" will get to have their CDs autographed by Sabrina herself after the show.

"I Love Acoustic 4" by Sabrina is now out in CDs under MCA Music (Universal Music Philippines) and available for download at mymusicstore.com.ph. To download Sabrina's single "Moves Like Jagger" text JGR and send to 2728 for Smart and Talk N Text subscribers, text KL343 and send to 2332 for Globe/ TM or text 5493161 and send to 2300 for Sun Cellular subscribers.  For more of Sabrina's music, just text SABRINA to 3456 or check out www.facebook.com/mcamusic.

A Bloggers' Evening with Sabrina is brought to you by MCA Music in cooperation with Pinoy Magazine, Orange Magazine TV and Red Box: Rock, Dine, Roll.

Here's a little words from Sabrina to the bloggers.

Healthy Night With SOYAMI at Tourne

12:28:00 AM

Last January25, 2012 was one of the healthiest night I've ever attended.  First the event was initiated by AM Global Works Marketing Corporation who delightfully created the SOYAMI food snacks, second the events venue was known for their Slow Food advocates and it was called the Tourne which really provides the very best and nutritious food for us, and lastly I get to bring home healthy products for me and my family.

Our sumptuous dinner were SOYAMI inspired and I think I have tasted almost all of them but the only thing that I missed is the names of those totally yummy recipes.  Perhaps they'll be sending it to us one of this days.  Hopefully so that I could try it and have it for my family as well.

Another part of being healthy is getting fit by means of exercise and one of the sponsors Fitness First was able to provide few information that will benefit most of us who doesn't really know that much.  It is said that fit and healthy always come together.  You can be fit but your not healthy or you can be healthy but not fit.  So it's like Batman and Robin it should always be in motion together.

Aside from the healthy foods that they've introduced, the event was also the venue for awarding the winners of their contest "Soyami: Snacking Without the Guilt".   The event was hosted by none other than their Health Ambassador Mark Nelsen, unfortunately Rovilson Fernandez couldn't make it that time but anyway Mark Nelsen alone did make our night not only healthy but as well as lively.

And the winners of the "Soyami: Snaking Without the Guilt" are 3rd Prize - Richard Mamuyac, 2nd Prize - Melanie Abuel and the 1st Prize - Paige San Juan.  Well, for me better try next time! If SOYAMI will have another contest like this.  Hehehe!  At the end of the evening everyone did get a bag of goodies from their sponsors Q-Life: FaceOne, Suncoast: Lightwater and Vitamin Boost, Fruit Magic, Fernbelly - Treehugger, Haribon Foundation, Rudy Project, Tourne and Fitness First

Anyway, if you're wondering how was the Soyami Soya Chips Food Snack came about well it was the idea of Ms. Apple Morales (she looks like Jessa Zaragosa), President and Owner of AM Global Works Marketing Corp.  According to her "Although our children have prepared snacks and food during their recess or lunch breaks, we cannot guarantee they won't buy or share with their classmates' bag of junk food" she continues "So instead of reprimanding them for eating the crunch-and-munch food they love, why not give them the same snack feel that is low in calorie count and sugar and is an excellent source of protein and fiber?"

Why soya? According to factoids.com, the yield of protein from soybeans is about twice that of meat, 12 times that of milk and four times that of eggs.

In addition, soy is also crucial for healthy brain cells. The brain which is formed by 20 percent phospholipids or more specifically lecithin is one of the substances found in soy. Therefore, including soy in kids’ diet generally contributes to better learning capabilities, brain performance and vitality while enhancing brain memory. Since soy has the most abundant properties of calcium and iron compared with other legumes, it can contribute in building healthy bones while producing hemoglobin or red blood cells needed for transporting oxygen in the body, a benefit that befits active and growing children.

On the other hand, for children who are computer and television addicts, Soyami Soya Chips may be an option to replace potato chips. Soy prevents child obesity because it is low in carbohydrates and it makes one feel fuller for a longer period of time.

Furthermore, with the isoflavone compounds it possesses called Genistein, it aids the body to stay lean and produce fewer and smaller fat cells.

Thus, Soyami Soya Chips, made of non-genetically modified organism (GMO) soya imported from Canada, will not cause food allergies, obesity, diabetes and some food-related diseases in any way, contrary to food with little or no nutritional value that contain high levels of flavor enhancers, saturated fats, salt, and sugar minus the required dietary fiber intake. It may also be enjoyed and cooked in other ways, as replacement for crunchy croutons used in salads and soups or as breadcrumbs for pork, chicken and fish fillets when crushed.

And being Halal-certified food, the manufacture of Soyami Soya Chips also took into consideration the dietary requirements of our health-conscious Muslim brothers.

Morales further enthused, “Soyami Soya Chips proves that not all food coming out from inviting snack packaging are junk but rather can be another good source of guilt-free snacking that promotes healthy eating habits as well.”

Soyami Soya Chips, those healthy-goodness snacks that appear like nacho chips come in Original, White Cheddar and Pizza flavors, are now available in leading supermarkets and groceries and in convenience stores throughout Metro Manila, Cebu and Davao.

Dreaded Rotavirus

8:13:00 PM

Microscopic Image of Rotavirus
vaccinenewsdaily.com
This is not a bug nor a malware in a computer but it's something that children should not have during their first 2 years of life.  It's a rotavirus which is the leading cause of diarrhea or pagtatae. According to information, diarrhea is the second leading killer of children aged less than 5 years old.  Everyday, 1,500 children around the globe die because of rotavirus-related diarrhea.  Parents should be alarmed and educated about this.

That's what we learned when we attended an event held in Mango Tree Bistro in Trinoma Mall.  Since it's high time of the celebration of the Chinese New Year it is also high time to celebrate that the Department of Health has announced to the media that they'll be including the Rotavirus Vaccination as part of the Expanded Program for Immunization (EPI) 2012.  The Philippines will be the very first Asian Country to implement Rotavirus Vaccination in the EPI.

This is really great news for those who don't have much access to expensive vaccines for parents to protect their children.  Also and maybe it's about time that DOH will do some campaign with regards to this rotavirus.  For sure if you're going to ask a simple house-wife if they know about this rotavirus, only few would respond to this.

To educate us more about ROTAVIRUS, here are some more information about the indirect and direct effect of the virus.

Image form mydochub.com

  • Diarrhea leads to serious long term effects to a child's development in terms of height, energy levels and cognitive abilities.
  • Diarrhea affects nutrient absorption.
  • Growth shortfalls of up to 8.2 cm by age 7 years.
  • Hospitalization due to acute gastroenteritis/diarrhea.
  • Quality of life as well as their livelihood due to an income loss.

This disease is highly preventable through vaccination and with this there would be a better reduction of infant mortality rate.  ROTAVIRUS Vaccine is best given to babies from 6 weeks up to 8 months of age.  It is administered orally 2 to 3 doses depending on the brand of the vaccine.

Though Rotavirus vaccine have already been around for quite sometime there is still lack of proper campaign and education with regards to this vaccine.  Hopefully, the Rotavirus vaccine would be available soon on health centers and as part of the immunization programs.

Matteo, Xian and Maja sa Isang "Matinik" na Love Story!

7:49:00 PM

Last Saturday, it was one of the earliest blogger's conference I have ever attended.  It was the My Cactus Heart Blogger's Conference.  Thank God that it is Saturday, no work.  The only hassle is that it's not easy waking up and prepare early morning.

Of course the usual thing, bloggers get to ask questions about the movie and their off cam life most especially about the relationship that Maja and Matteo have right now.  Most of us, bloggers, laugh and giggles as they show and tell some of their experiences with their relationship.

With regards to the movie, My Cactus Heart and according to Enrico Santos, director of the movie, the chemistry of the stars were really great and did make the outcome of the movie a great romantic comedy.  The mixture of Maja's versatility, Xian's serious personality, and Matteo's innocent look make the movie something to watch out.

To give viewers, readers, and fans a tease, here's a portion of the blogger's conference that transpired in Max's Restaurant in Scout Tuazon, Quezon City.

Love is such a "thorny" issue! Nakakasakit, nakakasugat, nakakatinik.  Now if the one you love believes in that, can there still be a happy ending?

'Yan and kwento ng pinakabagong pelikula mula sa Star Cinema, ang "My Cactus Heart"!  It is top billed by the country's most exciting stars, Matteo Guidicelli, Xian Lim and Maja Salavador!  Tungkol ito sa isang babae  (Maja as Sandy) na mula sa magulong pamilya.  She doesn't believe in happily ever after.  Tanggap n'ya at naniniwqala s'ya na love only hurts kaya she is known to be a chronic mambabasted!  But what if someone comes along and will make her question what she believes in?  Ano ang gagawin n'ya?  Can that someone change her jaded heart?

"This is Maja at her best!" 'yan ang sabi ng mg anakapanoon na ng rushes ng "My Cactus Heart".  Not surprising at all since we all know that Maja is one of the most talented actresses we have around.  Maja is so versatile!  She can do drama, comedy, horror, romance.  Her teleseryes last 2011 were all top-raters ("Impostor", "Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin"), and she has another big teleserye for this year, "Lumayo Ka Man Sa Akin".  Kung talent ang pag-uusapan, hindi madedehado si Maja d'yan!  As for Matteo, "My Cactus Heart" is his first starring role.  We have all seen him in his past teleseryes too and he has indeed proven that he is more than just a pretty face.  As Karlo, we can now all see why Matteo could just be the next important male lead star!  Introducing naman sa pelikula si Xian Lim, one of the most promising new male stars of today.  Xian's brooding stance made us all notice that he's got the "it" and he deserves a second look!  He plays the role of Bene, one of the two men who will try to win over Sandy's heart.  Now, Karlo or Bene?  Sino sa kanila ang makakapagpabago kay Sandy?  Who can make her believe that there is "happily ever after"?

Exciting love story, fresh casting combination!  'Yan ang "My Cactus Heart" na ipinagmamalaking handog ng Star Cinema.  Directed by Enrico Santos, the movie opens nationwide in over 100 theaters on January 25.  Eto na "ang pinaka-matinik na love story" ngayong 2012!

SUNUGAN: Rap Battle

10:57:00 PM
During my teenage life I was really into raps. Thanks to Francis M. for the introduction of Philippine rap and later on with Andrew E. whom both I look onto with regards to that craft. I remember also that I did try to do some rap lyrics during my free time before. I think rap doesn't look into what age you are but how you love the style and the craft. So for now, since I really like different kind of music, I will take the chance of hearing a rap battle. Here's what it is all about...

“Whoever loses resigns from rap – for good.” That spells the inevitable doom of whoever loses in the rap battle aptly called SUNUGAN: Unfinished Business. This Filipino rap battle is the much-awaited conclusion to previous rap battles between Abra and Batas, Shehyee and Melvin the Devil, and many other masters of rap. Too many loose ends… but wait until January 28, 2011, when the SUNUGAN: Unfinished Business shall commence.

Mortal enemies in rap battle finally get to the conclusion of their rap drama as they put their careers on the line. The losing party shall never rap again! Loonie versus Zaito, Apekz versus Harlem, Shehyee versus Melvin the Devil, and Abra versus Batas. For this historic event, Guijo Street in Makati shall be closed off. SUNUGAN: Unfinished Business will be the event to go to this January as rap masters engage in a word fight that millions of rap fans from all over the world will want to witness. Live streaming shall be available via PinoyTuner. And if you want a preview of what’s to come, watch Shehyee and Abra as they engage in a battle rap with comedian-host Stanley Chi on Dig Radio’s Suplado Show. That’s this Monday, January 23, 2012, 9 to 11 p.m.

Also, get the chance to ask Shehyee and Abra any question by calling the Suplado Show during the preview rap battle. Winning caller wins gift certificates from UniSilver Time. Sunugan: Unfinished Business starts at 8 p.m. at Guijo Street, in front of Dig Radio Studios (7615 Guijo Street, San Antonio Village, Makati) and Saguijo. Come and witness the war. Marcel Antonio at Yuchengco Museum

11:57:00 AM
I'm an art lover and I would really want to see this and know more about this.

If you want to know more about Marcel Antonio read more below....

Press Release
In July of 2010, the poet V.I.S. de Veyra posted a blog essay on the art of Marcel Antonio titled “Blue Funk’d Stories: The Expanding Art of Marcel Antonio” (read at http://partycrashingangle.blogspot.com/2010/07/blue-funked-silent-stories-expanding_26.html) and coined the phrase-tag Blue Funk Erotica for Antonio’s art. De Veyra described Blue Funk Erotica as 1) unsmiling faces-derived figurative drama (primarily portraiture, then), 2) replete of appropriations or art-historical quotes, 3) suggestive (but only suggestive) of a narrative, 4) quasi-rebellious towards rigid allusions and painting titles’ guidance, 5) unpainterly expressionist, 6) of an in-a-trance mood as against a happy one, and 7) conscriptive of the painting viewer as peeper. “This erotica should stay around and keep us entranced,” the poet-critic wrote, “being not so much one that tickles the groin as a kind that promotes the understanding that every face, gesture, object, color, and shape is a secret sex object and clandestine true story waiting to be told.” But also debunking a previous simplistic tag on Antonio’s art as “narrative expressionist,” de Veyra wrote: “In Antonio’s case, his blue funkism's ‘de-expression’, or ‘dis-expression’ and narrative confusion through the mannerisms of narrative imagery and titling, seems to be a produce of a Russian Formalist narrative bent to ‘defamiliarize’ images and shapes towards a higher enigma. Thus his refusal to ‘express’.”

The abovementioned blog started a dialogue between Antonio’s art as well as intent (of unintent) and de Veyra’s reading, culminating in a late-2011 collection titled “Desire, Ennui, Anxiety” which shall be shown this coming Feb 6 to 25 at the Yuchengco Museum.

This title for Antonio’s new series does not so much signal a change in his art’s direction as clarify where de Veyra’s reading is right and where it needs to be tweaked. For instance, while de Veyra opts for a Barthesian “variety of narrative possibilities,” Antonio’s pragmatic knowledge of his audience allows/welcomes two basic approaches to his art.

The one approach favours rigid symbolist readings, especially as Antonio is himself attracted to the “monumental” (Antonio’s term) figure common among utopian-art compositions (of Wagnerian glorifications, classical idealism, Nazi art, Stalinist totalitarian art, socialist realism, etc.) as well as in advertising art or the idealizations of soft porn.

But, for the other approach, Antonio acknowledges that de Veyra is right about his—Antonio’s—own efforts to frustrate, so to speak, all symbolist and narrative approaches, via experimentations with juxtapositions/relations and eclectic allusions. These experimentations, appropriations, and art-history quotes result in a dehumanized atmosphere, involving such stuff as machine esthetics and the usual facial expressions of ennui and boredom, all moving towards Antonio’s intended postmodernist multiplicity of meanings. But the final result on each single canvas is an invite to a pseudo-narrative half-aware of this pseudo-ness, welcoming while parodying the various cultural and moral significations possible to professional and popular semiotics.

In this sense, Antonio’s art would be self-described as anxious about the unknown, desirous of knowledge as a matter of course but likewise celebrating the ennui of knowledge’s elusivity, even the charm of that ennui itself alone. Ennui as both springboard and object of desire, then, visually fulfilled or illustrated on an Antonio-esque drama field.

A final stamp to this anti-narrative effort to “recover the sensation of life” (Victor Shklovsky) is the artist’s devotion to the coloration of Diego Velázquez or Chagall as well as the latent abstract geometrics beneath all his pseudo-narrative stagings.
