Ensuring a greener future for the next generations is not just the work of a lone individual but of a collective effort from everyone living on this planet. To enjoy the benefits of a healthy and diverse natural world. The theme also highlights the need for collective action to address the threats facing wildlife and their habitats.

HORI7ON is now a certified Kapamilya and MLD artists as ABS-CBN and management company MLD Entertainment continue their ongoing partnership to co-manage the group's career in becoming the next global pop group last Friday (March 10).

The seven-member group released its pre-debut teaser for "Dash,"composed by "Dream Maker" Korean mentor and hit composer Bull$eye.

 

HORI7ON is composed of Jeromy Batac, Marcus Cabais, Kyler Chua, Vinci Malizon, Reyster Yton, Kim Ng, and Winston Pineda, who were the winners of the country's first idol survival show "Dream Maker" after receiving millions of votes from fans.

Aside from the music videos, fans should watch out for the group's guesting on "I Can See Your Voice" and "Tropang LOL."

Before they fly in South Korea, they are also set to do mall tours until April in Nueva Ecija, Laguna, Cavite, Koronadal, Gensan, and Zamboanga.

Beautéderm and Sparkle GMA Artist Center have been in partnership for five years now. During the media conference held on March 7 at Luxent Hotel, CEO and founder Rhea Anicoche-Tan expressed her gratitude to Sparkle for its contribution to her company.

Is this the end of Eat Bulaga as we know it? Lawmaker's bold plan to oust TVJ and take over production company rocks entertainment industry

It has been the talk in the entertainment industry and even on social media, that there seems to be a takeover will happen in the longest running noontime TV show, Eat Bulaga. It is allegedly believed that for Samboanga del Sur lawmaker, Romy Jalosjos is behind of all the stir. But, for the information of all, Romy Jalosjos is one of the owners of the production company where Eat Bulaga is under.

Jalosjos is reportedly planning to oust Eat Bulaga's three iconic hosts, Tito, Vic, and Joey (TVJ), citing their age as a hindrance to the show's success. But that's not all - he also wants to seize control of the show's production company, Television and Production Exponents (TAPE), which is currently under the leadership of Tony Tuviera. And if Jalosjos has his way, he plans to rename the show, a bold move for a program that has been on air for decades.


 
To sweeten the deal, Jalosjos is also trying to lure and gain the favor of other TV hosts, such as Wally Bayola, Jose Manalo, and Allan K., to his side. But according to sources, these Dabarkads are all loyal to "bossings" and aren't budging.

Jalosjos isn't the only one vying for the attention of high-profile TV personalities, though. It appears that Willie Revillame is also in the mix, adding even more intrigue to this already-complicated situation.

Naturally, this potential takeover has caught the current management of Eat Bulaga off-guard, with Tuviera already scrambling to come up with a solution. If Jalosjos succeeds, Tuviera has already come up with a new title for the show, which will reportedly feature a new set of hosts called the "Dabarkads."

As fans start suggesting possible new names for Eat Bulaga - "Wow Bulaga" and "Eat Showtime" are just a couple of suggestions - the fate of the show remains uncertain.


 
As most of the fans says "it's not Eat Bulaga without the original team (TVJ) in it." And there might be a drop of viewership if it happens.

The Colorful Philippine Jeepney: A Cultural Icon Under Threat of Extinction

For many Filipinos, like me, the Jeepney is more than just a mode of transportation. It is a cultural icon that represents the country's history, creativity, and resilience. It needs to be preserved and maintained just like some of the historical and valuable pieces of our Philippine History. However, the Jeepney is now facing an uncertain future as the government plans to phase it out and replace it with modern mini-buses, which they call the modern jeep. If you're asking me, I don't find any resemblance of the jeep on that vehicle. It's more of a mini-bus for me. 

The Jeepney's Origins

The Jeepney has a fascinating origin story that reflects the Filipino's resourcefulness and ingenuity. It started after World War II when American military jeeps were left in the country. The Filipinos, being known for their knack for repairing and recycling things, transformed the war jeeps into colorful and flamboyant public utility vehicles. 

The first Jeepneys were bare-bones vehicles that could accommodate up to 20 passengers. But over the years, they evolved into a more elaborate form with ornate designs, flashy decals, and vibrant colors that reflect the driver's personality. 

One of the company's that flourished during the blossoming era of jeepney is the Sarao Motors Company. Unfortunately, the company wasn't able to cope up with the demand of time.

The Jeepney's Cultural Significance

The Jeepney is more than just a means of transportation. It is a cultural symbol that reflects the Filipino's creativity, adaptability, and resilience. It is a ubiquitous sight in the country's urban landscape, with its distinct look and sound, and its ability to navigate through congested streets.

The Jeepney also serves as a canvas for the Filipino's artistic expression. Many Jeepney owners decorate their vehicles with intricate designs, bold colors, and witty slogans. Some even feature pop culture icons, political figures, or religious themes.

Moreover, the Jeepney is a source of livelihood for thousands of drivers, operators, and mechanics. It is a vital part of the country's public transportation system, serving as a cheap and accessible mode of transport for millions of Filipinos.

The Jeepney's Future

However, the Jeepney's future is now in peril as the government plans to phase it out and replace it with modern mini-buses. The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) cite the Jeepney's age, emissions, and safety concerns as the primary reasons for its phase-out. I just didn't get it. If the only problems was the emission and safety concerns why not evolve it and let that present jeepney be modernized and buy something that is not worth of our cultural heritage. 

The government's plan has sparked protests from Jeepney drivers, operators, and enthusiasts, who argue that the Jeepney is not only a cultural icon but also an affordable and accessible mode of transportation for many Filipinos. They also point out that the government's plan will displace thousands of Jeepney drivers and operators who depend on the vehicle for their livelihood.




The Fate of the Jeepneys

The Jeepney is more than just a mode of transportation. It is a cultural symbol that represents the Filipino's creativity, adaptability, and resilience. Its evolution from a war jeep to a colorful public utility vehicle is a testament to the Filipino's resourcefulness and ingenuity.

However, the Jeepney is  believe to bound for condemnation, phase out, and to be replaced. With what? With what they call jeep that does not resemble as a jeep but a mini bus. And take note each unit costs around Php2 Million which is intended to extended to drivers and operators as a loan. Do you think a jeepney driver can provide a monthly payment for that loan?

Now it is facing an uncertain future. They say they want it to be modernized but why do they have to buy something that does not shows or bears the historical value of the jeepney. As the move of LTO and LTFRB sparked protests and debates among Jeepney drivers, operators, and enthusiasts who argue that the Jeepney should be preserved as a cultural icon and as a vital part of the country's public transportation system, this matter will still be an issue to resolve. It's not a one done deal but probably a continuous effort of making everyone realize the value of the vehicle and of the driver. 

In conclusion, the Jeepney's fate is in the hands of the government and the Filipino people. It is up to us to decide whether to preserve this cultural icon or to replace it with modern vehicles. Whatever the decision may be, the Jeepney will always hold a special place in the hearts of the Filipinos and will remain a symbol of their unique identity and heritage.

Jobseekers' Market Prevails in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong Despite Economic Slowdown

According to a recent study titled “What Job Seekers Wish Employers Knew: Unlocking the Future of Recruitment” by SEEK, the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), and The Network, Southeast Asia and Hong Kong remain a jobseekers’ market in 2023 despite the possible economic slowdown. SEEK is the parent company of Asia’s leading online employment marketplaces, JobStreet and JobsDB. The study surveyed 97,324 respondents in the Philippines, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. It found that 34% of the talent surveyed are actively looking for a new job, and 40% of Filipino respondents said they are not actively looking for a new job but are open to good offers.

The study also revealed that Filipino jobseekers are motivated by finding a role with higher seniority or trying out a new profession. Moreover, the majority of the talent surveyed around the region feel confident to look out for new opportunities despite fears of recession. This is because they are aware of their attractiveness to employers. In fact, 74% of talent around the region are approached multiple times per year about new job opportunities, and 87% of Filipinos receive multiple job offers per year.

Filipinos are more optimistic about judging their position in the labor market, with 78% feeling positive and confident about negotiating positions, particularly in the areas of business, finance, and sales. This figure is slightly higher than the global average of 68%. SEEK Asia Chief Executive Officer Peter Bithos commented on the findings, stating that while hiring growth may slow down during times of uncertainty, it is still a jobseekers’ market right now. Therefore, it is important for employers to know how to attract, recruit and retain talent.

The study also reveals that those working in IT roles are the most coveted talent across Indonesia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Singapore, as they are frequently approached with job opportunities on a weekly and monthly basis. “Despite the waves of layoffs by tech companies in the region and around the world, the demand for tech talent still remains based on the report’s findings. This is consistent with SEEK’s observation of a 29% YoY (2021 vs 2022) increase in job ads for tech roles in the region, based on data from our JobStreet and JobsDB platforms,” added Bithos.

This study shows that the job market in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong remains favorable for job seekers in 2023. With this knowledge, employers need to adapt their recruitment strategies to attract, recruit and retain talent effectively. It is also important to note that those working in IT roles are currently in high demand, making it a promising career path for those who want to enter the job market or are looking to switch careers.




 

Talent’s Top Priorities

Most respondents (71%) to the survey in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong said that they desire, above all, a stable job with a good work-life balance. This preference is dominant across job roles, countries, and age groups. However, the survey revealed that Filipino talent are slightly more interested in taking leadership positions and in building their own successful businesses one day.

This is in line with Filipino jobseekers’ deal breakers​ when​ looking for a new role, with 28% citing work-life balance as a deal breaker, ranking second after financial compensation (35%). They also consider retirement and insurance benefits that come along with the job offer (27%).

When it comes to the desired working conditions, Filipinos are more interested in having a hybrid setup (46%), followed by fully remote (28%). When it comes to working time, Filipino talent are in line with global results, preferring a traditional five-day workweek.

Bithos says, “These last few years have been a wake-up call to many. Today, we are knee-deep in the era of ‘The Great Reconfiguration’ as employees are reconfiguring their work and personal lives, prioritizing the latter with greater demand for work-life balance and flexibility. Meanwhile, employers are increasingly looking for different skills, with a continued focus on digital and technology skills. Employers that want to attract great talent with the skills that their businesses require must cater to these changing needs.”

 

Ideal Hiring Journey

The survey also debunked and proved several recruitment myths and gave insight into what Filipino jobseekers want in their recruitment journey.

For instance, a smooth and timely process is the number one way for an employer to stand out during recruitment, as mentioned by 77% of respondents. Moreover, 52% of respondents named “negative experience during recruitment” as the key reason they would refuse an otherwise attractive job offer.

Indicating a salary range (53%) is the number one feature that matters to Filipino jobseekers in a good job ad, and if included, this is the first piece of information candidates will look at.

The survey also revealed that a recommendation by a friend is the best way to raise interest when a Filipino talent is not looking for a job. But once they are interested, most people will look for further information through social media and company websites.
