Aia de Leon, Barbie Almalbis, Kitchie Nadal, Johnoy Danao, Ebe Dancel, and Bullet Dumas Co-Headline a Kumu Digital Concert Entitled ‘ALPAS’

12:58:00 AM

When was the last time I heard a live concert? Well, I think it has been two years already. I missed the sound, I missed the noise and most of all I missed attending live events.

Thankfully, technology is friendly enough to get through us right before the pandemic that is why after realizing that we won't be having physical concerts and events for a time being, technology pave way for a new norm of enjoying music.

Get ready for a night of soaring anthems and classic sing-alongs as kumu live and GNN hold a virtual concert featuring some of the finest Filipino singer-songwriters of all time.

Dubbed ALPAS, the digital show not only aims to bring live performances for the streaming public, but also promises music fans to experience a semblance of ‘concert’ normalcy in an intimate, stripped-down setting.

Renowned alternative/pop-rock/folk icons Aia de Leon, Barbie Almalbis, Kitchie Nadal, Ebe Dancel, Johnoy Danao and Bullet Dumas mark their first time to co-headline a show together, performing as both solo artists and collaborators. The six music acts are also set to perform as a group in a special medley number arranged and produced by award-winning musical director, Ronaldo Tomas.

With new security and health protocols in place, the virtual showcase will be shot at the outdoor area of Conspiracy Garden Café, an iconic music venue that is home to several music greats and independent bands, and in Madrid, Spain where Kitchie Nadal is currently based.

As expected, Nadal is excited to be part of this once-in-a-lifetime collaboration, and has all the great words to say about the upcoming online show. “I’m excited to work with the artists that I admire in the music industry. It’s an opportunity that I wouldn’t want to miss.” Barbie Almalbis explains that this is as close to playing for a live audience, and that performing in Conspiracy again makes her feel nostalgic. “I’m more than happy to share the stage with the artists that I look up to, and hopefully, the energy and enthusiasm would resonate with the music fans once they see it on the virtual screen. It’s something that we’ve worked hard for.”

Aia, Barbie and Kitchie (ABK) have staged a sold-out, collaborative concerts at the Music Museum in 2016 and 2017, and held a benefit online show in 2020 to raise funds for the employees of indie music venues in Metro Manila. Ebe, Johnoy, and Bullet (3D) on the other hand, have performed as 3D, and went on to headline three, sold-out concerts: twice at the Music Museum in 2015 and 2016, and at the Kia Theatre in 2018. These concerts were organized and produced by GNN.

Bullet Dumas admits that he missed performing, and that ALPAS came at the right time when everyone needs a source of entertainment to keep them going while public life is on lockdown. “I haven't performed in an actual show since early pandemic,” the young music virtuoso shares in a statement. “People in the live events industry are barely surviving, so this opportunity from KUMU and GNN means a lot to me. And I know how a simple show can move people especially in this crazy era of our lives.”

Johnoy Danao admits that this is the very first time since 2020 that 3D will be reunited together, and he wouldn’t want to miss it for the world. He’s also looking forward to working with Aia, Barbie and Kitchie on this special project. “It’ll be the first time that all of us are performing together, so I think that’s something to look forward to.”

When asked about what makes ALPAS worth watching despite the lack of an actual “live” audience, Aia De Leon takes pride in what the virtual concert stands for especially in the time of pandemic. “ALPAS is your connection to something real. When the songs hit home, this is your connection to the memory as well as the future promise of the live gig experience.”

Ebe Dancel echoes Aia’s sentiments, stressing the importance of music in forging a sense of community amidst the most challenging of times. “People, in my opinion, will always need music. As much as we miss the live audience, this will have to do for now. Someday, somehow, we will all see each other again.”

ALPAS: A Digital Concert is set to premiere on June 5, 2021 from 6pm onwards. Tickets to ALPAS are now available for purchase via kumu, with a price of P499 for general admission. For details on how to buy tickets, go to this site: www.kumu.live

3 Things You Need to Know About Expenses, Mortgages, Loans, and Insurances

12:19:00 AM

We all came to this world bearing nothing but our skins. The only difference is the status of our family in this world. As for me, I live with simple things in life. During my toddler years, there are no disposable diapers, only the washable cloth ones. In other words, we live a simple life.

Even though life is simple still, part of our lives is complicated. An aspect that requires responsibility just like the line in Spiderman, "great power comes with great responsibility." It is indeed true, but I prefer to say that "life comes with great responsibility."

Well-off or miserable, we all need to be responsible for how we experience our lives. I remember my younger days adulting is not even a term to use but more of maturity. If you're responsible, you are becoming mature. Now, adulting is a term being used to identify your maturity.

Speaking of adulting, this comes with different responsibilities in life. One of the main aspects of being an adult is financial planning. If you know how to plan your finances, you'll eventually live your life to the fullest. With this, there are plenty of personalities who talk about planning your life and your finances. One of the well-known inspirational speakers and advocates of financial literacy is Bro. Bo Sanchez. Bo Sanchez has written several books that not only inspire but also teach about life and money. There's also Chinkee Tan, who teaches about finances also.

Life or adulting is more about expenses and a bit of fun and leisure. I remember when I was working in the corporate world, I always see deductions from my paycheck. But what's more interesting is the monthly expenses that need to be addressed, like bills, mortgages, loans, insurances, and other expenditures that can uplift your life.

Since adulting is real, I'll be sharing some of the points that I somehow understand. I'm not here to describe the details about expenses, mortgages, loans, and insurances, but the mere facts about it.

  • Expenses, Mortgages, Loans, and Insurances are not considered as expenses but as your investment. Well, for me, I thought of these as actually my investment in life. We spend money because we want to live, and having our monthly groceries is actually nourishing the body. As for the Mortgages and Insurances, we are just assuring ourselves about our future.
  • The expenses, mortgages, loans, and insurances help you understand life and its purpose. It's not always about the money but its value. That is why it is significant to learn how to compute them and calculate the money you have to pay for these expenses. Though there are available ready computations on the internet, you still need to find the right one that matches your need. As for me, I find Calculator.me practical for all my financial calculations.
  • Expenses, mortgages, loans, and insurances are to consider as experiences. As for me, I remember the times that I have to provide an amount to pay for the expenses. These are encounters in our life that teaches us to cope with the hardship of life.

These are simply guides that you can adapt and learn about adulting. Or ignore it if you want, but what's important is that you have read it. Hopefully, you learned something from it.

KZ AND BGYO Collaboration Brings Light and Joy in “FEEL GOOD PILIPINAS”

8:37:00 PM

Interesting and feel-good news for us!

“Asia’s Soul Supreme” KZ Tandingan and rising P-Pop boy group BGYO composed of Mikki Claver, JL Toreliza, Akira Morishita, and Gelo Rivera joined forces to encourage Filipinos to spread light to all through ABS-CBN’s “Feel Good Pilipinas” dance video and music video.

First revealed last Friday (May 7) on various ABS-CBN platforms, the two releases of “Feel Good Pilipinas” videos hoped to inspire Filipinos to find ways to be happy and connect with each other despite the challenges we are facing in this pandemic.

The lyrics of “Feel Good Pilipinas” were penned by Lawrence Arvin Sibug and Robert Labayen of ABS-CBN Creative Communication Management (CCM) while the music was composed by Thyro Alfaro and Francis Salazar. Maria Lourdes Parawan, also of CCM, provided the English translation.

The dance challenge, on the other hand, was choreographed by “Pinoy Big Brother” alumnus and dance master Mickey Perz.

Andrea Brillantes Cried After Her First Livestream, Doubting If She Will Do It Again!

9:00:00 AM

Few days before the Virtual Media Conference of the upcoming iWantTFC anthology series "Click Like Share," one of The Gold Squad members, Andrea Brillantes, made a buzz on social media about her crying scene. The crying was because of her first-ever Game Livestream, in which she played Mobile Legend Bang Bang or MLBB. Andrea detailed her crying video at the media conference, where I asked the question.

"Kailan lang diba nagpost ka na umiiyak ka regarding dun sa first Livestream mo, first game Livestream mo. Kamusta naman yong experience mo dun sa game Livestream mo na umabot ng 600K yong views nya? Ano yong reaction mo dun? Binasa mo ba yong mga comments? (Recently, you posted your crying scene regarding your first Livestream, first game Livestream. How was the experience doing the game Livestream that garnered 600K views? What was your reaction to it? Did you read the comments?)"

Andrea openly shared her experience and struggle in doing the Livestream. From preparations up to the actual stream.

Though Andrea was not into live streaming, the best part is she put up her courage to go live with her game. It always takes that single step in doing the things unfamiliar to us.

According to Andrea, her live stream had three parts because of two things, one, she's not familiar or doesn't have any idea of what to say, and, second, was because of a bad internet connection that made one of her games went lagging.

“Tapos nung natapos na sabi ko, “hay tapos na.” Tapos pagtingin ko ng views umabot po ako ng 470K plus and sobrang thankful po ako.”

And when she finally finished the whole stream, her mistake was to read the comments. Unfortunately, there are undesirable comments that made her cry.

“Tapos ang pagkakamali ko tumingin po ako sa comments, tapos ang dami nilang sinabi na mag regen ako, pero umuwi, basta ang dami. Tapos tumakbo po ako, tapos umiyak lang po ako sa mama ko. As in umiiyak ako the whole time. Sabi ko, “Ma, feeling ko napahiya talaga ako. Nahihiya talaga ako.”

So, whether she would have another try to live stream, her response is, “Malaking bayad po para mapa-oo ako. Ayaw ko na ulit, nahihiya po talaga ako. (It will take a big amount of talent fee before I'll do it again. I'm really embarrassed.)”

After the interview, she did mention that she'll be having a round-up MLBB game with AkoSiDogie, one of the known gamer in the Philippines.

Andrea Brillantes, together with The Gold Squad team, Kyle Echarri, Francine Diaz, and Seth Fedelin, stars in each of this Anthology Series "Click Like Share" together with some of the members of the Squad Plus.

Morissette Gives Her Vocal Imprint on the Song “SHINE” As Celebration of the It's 25th Year

9:44:00 AM

Asia’s Phoenix Morissette is finally releasing her official recording of “Shine” on Friday (May 21) in celebration of the song’s silver anniversary this year.

The timely release is a re-introduction of “Shine’s” original lyrics composed by multi-awarded songwriter Trina Belamide who has joined forces with Star Music to reproduce the well-loved composition originally sang by Ima Castro and later rendered by Regine Velasquez-Alcasid.

ABS-CBN Music creative director and OPM hitmaker Jonathan Manalo has teamed up with Filipino-American musical director Troy Laureta to give “Shine” a fresh gospel waltz vibe while retaining its overall feel.

Morissette’s own version happens after years of singing the OPM tune live on numerous occasions here and abroad. The Kapamilya artist’s YouTube performance video of “Shine” on the Wish Bus has garnered over 7.9 million views and has figured in numerous reaction videos of vocal coaches from different countries who were blown away by her rendition.

“Shine” was originally a Metropop entry first recorded by Ima and performed live by Sweet Plantado during the 1996 Metropop Song Festival held at the Araneta Coliseum where it won second place.

In 2004, the Asia’s Songbird recorded the song for a product commercial and has since then become part of her various shows’ repertoire.

Check out Morissette’s official version of “Shine,” which will be out on music streaming services starting Friday (May 21). The song’s music video will be out on May 30 (Sunday) on Morissette's YouTube channel with a TV launch on "ASAP Natin 'To" on the same day.

Sponge Cola’s “Labis-labis” RomCom Music Video Star Two Lovely Puppies

7:32:00 AM

When cuteness invades the music video? It's very rare for a music video to star cute, lovely, and adorable puppies, as Sponge Cola and its creative team made something extraordinary. It's a love story but this love story is not your usual story of a love team, but these are two puppies fall in love in the most adorable, unexpected ways on the music video of Sponge Cola’s “Labis-labis”—out now on YouTube. Showcasing unadulterated romance from the perspective of pets, the visual narrative steps into the world of meet-cute and courtship between two-year-old poodle, Alex and six-year-old mixed-breed aspin, Jamie.

According to guitarist Armo Armovit, the romantic comedy-inspired story pays tribute to the unconditional loyalty and friendship that their pets have given them through the years. “We all have pets and love them very dearly, and this is our way of saying thanks.” Vocalist and guitarist Yael Yuzon shares the same sentiment, honoring the dogs that have been with them through thick and thin. “My dogs have been taking care of me. It makes sense to pay tribute to Mini Me and Finny Finn Finn.”

The music video of “Labis-labis” is directed by Robin Estargo, whose great passion for storytelling not only exceeded expectations, but also handled the material well with the right balance of effervescent wit and heartwarming appeal. “It was a treat (pun intended) working with Robin and the entire KeepFilming Inc. crew,” said drummer Tedmark Cruz. “Their creativity, passion, and professionalism were evident in all the pre-prod meetings over Zoom, up until the post prod finishing touches.”

Yuzon echoes Cruz’s statement, adding how giddy and excited Robin and the KeepFilming team were, during the storyboard discussion. “It's always nice to work with people who are passionate about their work. The belief in the love story between the two dogs was intense from the very start, and it was contagious and inspiring.”

Having experienced shooting several video projects involving dogs, Estargo and his production team know how challenging it is to pull off a compelling narrative that features pets as main casts. “Working with one dog can be quite draining, so what more two? It's like working with toddlers! We have to adjust to their moods all the time and treat them with utmost patience.”

Despite the difficulty during the filmmaking process, the team was lucky to cast two dogs that specifically met the criteria they were looking for: “Number one most definitely is that they have to be trained dogs that can do a few or even more tricks,” Estargo shares. “Second, they have to be smaller in size so they'd be easier to handle on set. And third, the dogs should be familiar with each other offhand - and much better if they have the same trainer or owner, so we won't have a problem on set as these dogs work with each other. We were looking for one aspin and one with a certain breed.”

Aldo Vidal, a 63-year-old dog trainer for 26 years, submitted an audition video for his two dogs through his daughter, and the rest as they say, is history. “We definitely made the right decision in casting their dogs because they are not just a joy to work with and Sir Aldo, as their owner, has also been so accommodating and giving during the shoot,” Estargo tells in a statement. “He worked hard to make sure we got the takes we wanted and exuded that positive and endearing dad vibes that we all loved.” The music video of “Labis-labis” is out now on YouTube via Sony Music Philippines.

SB19 Pays Homage To Their Parents Through Their Latest Rousing Ballad “MAPA”

10:10:00 PM

With or without pandemic SB19 is sure a hit not only here in the Philippines but in the international music scene as well. Fresh from scoring a 2021 Billboard Music Awards nomination for Top Social Artist along with some of the world’s most celebrated pop acts, SB19 continues to push the envelope with the release of their new song “MAPA” under Sony Music.

In a complete 180-degree turn from the colossal banger that introduced the upcoming album era, “MAPA” takes the form of a rousing ballad that captures SB19 at their most emotionally expressive element. It’s hellbent on returning home with a heartwarming tribute to every parent out there, who has brought direction to our lives every time we feel lost and in need of a north star.

The title, which is a Filipino term that translates to “map” in English, is a portmanteau of “mama” and “papa.” Combining both words, Pablo penned the track to “inspire people to be appreciative of everything that our parents did for us and to give back.”

The multi-talented member of the acclaimed pop group also explained the inspiration behind the song’s title. “It implies that our parents serve as our guidance and direction in life. We released this song to show gratitude and appreciation for helping us survive all the challenges and difficulties that we’ve encountered growing up.”

Even before the pandemic happened and during their concert tour, SB19 had lesser time going home to be with their families. This prompted the multi-awarded global sensation to honor their love for their parents through a pop song primed to endure timelessness. “Pablo first composed the melody, getting inspiration from a lullaby that his mother would sing to him when he was a child,” said SB19’s Josh. “He wanted to make a song that conveys the feeling of being taken care of by one’s parents. He proceeded to write lyrics that equate our parents as the ‘map’ that guides us to be the best versions of ourselves.”

Just in time for Mother’s Day celebration last week, the Filipino boyband started the #DearMAPA campaign to express their gratitude to their parents and encouraged A’TIN to do the same. The hashtag trended at No.1 on Twitter Philippines, and launched thousands of touching messages from their fans. SB19 also revealed the logo trailer for “MAPA” a few days before the song’s actual release.

“MAPA” is out now on all digital platforms worldwide via Sony Music.

Saying "Yes" to Beauty Inclusivity: Inspiring Stories of Women who Embraced their Individuality through Livestreaming

8:59:00 AM

This is something interesting to know, especially those faces that you see on Shopee livestreams. Read the story. Coming to terms with yourself, flaws and all—and in the age of social media, no less—can be difficult. When unrealistic beauty standards are reinforced everywhere you look, self-acceptance doesn’t always come easy.

As a top beauty and personal care company in the country, Unilever acknowledges its role in championing a new era of beauty. Through projects such as Dove My Hair, My Say and Real Beauty, Unilever resolves to make beauty a positive and inclusive experience for all. As its next step towards celebrating the beauty in diversity, Unilever launches Yes to Positive Beauty on Shopee this May 17-19. The campaign aims to encourage Filipinos to embrace their unique beauty, support inclusivity, and say “Yes” to Positive Beauty.

Need a little inspiration saying “Yes” to Positive Beauty yourself? Follow two Shopee livestreamers’ journeys to self-love below:

Bianca Umali

Bianca Umali calls her foray into livestreaming ‘a leap of faith.’ A year later after taking the plunge, however, Bianca shares that pushing the boundaries of her capabilities was one of the best things she’s ever done for herself. “Embracing yourself, I've realized, is not about staying in one place. It's also about branching out to the different facets of your being.”

Bianca admits that she used to hate her chinita eyes and longed for double eyelid surgery. Now that she recognizes that she does not have to follow unrealistic beauty standards, Bianca is determined to create authentic content as a public figure. She frequently goes live sans makeup. “My viewers can see me raw and unedited, and in turn, they get to see me as a real human being. They’ve seen me with dark circles, blemishes, and puffiness.”

One simple step towards embracing yourself, according to Bianca, is to filter your media consumption. “Our self-image only gets shattered when we are made to believe we do not measure up. Fight this belief by being in command of what you take in, and you will always see yourself as beautiful.”

Mary Grace Khu

Mary Grace Khu used to believe that only people with model-esque features could land jobs as on-cam talents. She eventually realized that her shape, size, and skin tone shouldn’t hinder her from going after her dreams, and thereafter snagged a job in the industry.

As a public figure, MG still feels self-conscious from time to time about strangers’ opinions, but for the most part, she has found a supportive community in her viewers. She credits this to her authenticity and drives to advocate self-love online. “I am taking this as an opportunity to share my experiences and stories. I will always be real about it, as it would be hard to sustain if you're trying to pretend or be like someone else.”

MG also believes that beauty isn’t one dimensional. “I see beauty in a holistic manner: being healthy, having a positive mindset, and being confident in my own skin.” She adds that it is through one’s personality that true beauty radiates, and so she endeavors to bring sunshine to others by spreading positivity through her content.

SKY Pay-Per-View tickles viewers' funny bones as it offers Star Cinema's soul-changing comedy film "Momshies! Ang Soul Mo'y Akin!" starring Momshies Jolina Magdangal, Karla Estrada, and Melai Cantiveros, beginning May 28 (Friday).

By a strange twist of fate, the souls of the famous influencer Jolene (Jolina), the wealthy hotelier Karlene (Karla), and the ordinary Mylene (Melai) are switched, leaving them with no choice but to deal with their new, peculiar lives.

Karlene struggles to persuade clients to invest in her hotel because all they see is Mylene, Mylene cannot pursue her Dubai application as she now inhabits Jolene's body, while Jolene can no longer continue her celebrity life as she has taken on Karlene's appearance.

As they become desperate to change their fate, the three bond together to find ways to return to their original bodies and lives in a series of hilarious misadventures.

Find out if Jolene, Karlene, and Mylene's souls go back to where they should be in Star Cinema's newest comedy flick, "Momshies! Ang Soul Mo'y Akin!" airing on SKY Pay-Per-View from May 28 until July 1.
