The Philippines’ leading carrier, Cebu Pacific, forged a strategic partnership with the country’s leading fast-food chain, Jollibee, as the Official Airline Partner and Co-Presenter of the Special Citation for Environment of the 9th Jollibee Family Values Awards (JFVA). The annual award pays tribute to exemplary Filipino families residing in the Philippines and abroad who promote positive family values through selflessly serving their fellowmen.

The Special Citation for Environment was given to the Sali family, for their innate and selfless love for the environment as manifested by their One Child One Tree movement. The organization promotes environment preservation and a commitment to sustainable development through tree planting initiatives.

Under the auspices of the Fostering Education and Environment for Development (FEED), Inc., the Sali family has been actively supporting environmental projects in Hagonoy, Bulacan. Activities such as tree planting, mangrove reforestation efforts, as well as training modules and the sharing of technical expertise is made available to teachers, volunteers, and community residents. To date, FEED has seen the planting of 5,000 mangrove seedlings along the Tibaguin seashore while over 2,000 fruit-bearing and native trees have been planted in different elementary schools and forests in the province.

“It is truly an honor to be part once again of the Jollibee Family Values Awards,” says Michelle Eve De Guzman, Director for Marketing at Cebu Pacific, “It’s an even greater privilege for us to recognize the selfless efforts of the Sali family and their meaningful environmental initiatives that are worthy of emulation by others.”

As an advocate and supporter of the environment, Cebu Pacific launched Juan Effect program in 2018. The sustainable campaign helps promote sustainable tourism by encouraging travelers to make a positive impact on nature by bringing their own water bottles and eco bags, and disposing of waste properly.

LBC Safely Gets Parcels Across the Globe

12:13:00 PM

Kwento Ni Toto have been one of the usual customer of LBC, sending packages whether it's local or abroad. Convenience and reliability, that's what we love with this brand, LBC safely gets and delivers our parcels across the globe. So, here's a recent update about the company and their services.

A few months ago, Mrs. Victoria Santos, a Filipina nurse working in the UK instructed her family in Cebu to send important legal documents to her in London. The documents were delivered three weeks late as the courier company she trusted misplaced the shipment. In another instance, Mr. David Paredes, a software engineer working in Canada left his iPad in Manila while on vacation last month. He asked his wife to send the iPad via courier to Canada as soon as possible because he needed it for work. When it was delivered, his iPad was severely damaged and broken. These painful incidences pushed both Mrs. Santos and Mr. Paredes to go back to the basics- and rely on the one courier who built their name from the ground up on the strength of their expertise and hard work: LBC.

LBC knows that when OFWs require something sent to them from the Philippines, these items must be important, valuable, and urgently needed. LBC International Sending leverages LBC’s worldwide network of branches, agents, and partners to ensure that OFWs are provided with the superior support services that only an experienced and leading courier and cargo company like LBC can provide.

Additionally, LBC International cargo shipping rates to several popular OFW destinations like the USA, Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, Japan, UAE, Taiwan, Malaysia and the UK are very competitive and reasonable.

Through their International Sending Services, LBC makes sure that important shipments like passports, documents, gadgets, photos and similar items are handled and delivered with the utmost care, security, priority, safety, and urgency to our kababayans abroad. With their brand reputation and unmatched service experience, LBC International Sending Services would have delivered Mrs. Santos’ documents on time and delivered Mr. Paredes’ Ipad without a scratch. This is the reason why then and until now, LBC continues to be the most trusted courier, cargo, logistics, and remittance service provider of the global Filipino.

Measuring the Holistic Development of Every Learner: Indicators of a Whole Child

9:37:00 AM

We live in the 21st century, and its conditions of living are getting more complicated with each new change that comes into play. The way we approach problems and try to provide sustainable to meet the demands of our changing world has paced up, given how the global stage now requires a new approach to education that can fully prepare students for going to college, pursuing their careers, and fulfilling their roles as citizens of our nation. With the Whole Child approach, we believe that every young Filipino learner has a chance to be developed and prepared for the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead.

In this article, we discuss how holistic development for every learner can be checked and assessed with the use of indicators and the components that match each of their categories. Through these, the corresponding matches provide a glance of how each tenet can be grounded through indicators. All these are based on the basic tenets of the Whole Child approach which ensures that each student is healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged. Further, we look into the sustainability of each standard in terms of how it comprehensively improves the whole community.

Every school must sustain a culture that supports and reinforces the health and well-being of each student. This extends to each school's health education curriculum and instruction support being designed to prioritize and reinforce the push towards a healthy learning environment, not just in terms of physical health, but also with the mental, emotional, and social dimensions of health. This means that each component of health is integrated into the holistic approach: lifelong achievements are supported through adequate knowledge of basic fitness, positive attitudes and behaviors, and basic life skills that promote a healthy balance for young learner's developing minds and bodies. Having a healthy environment, in this sense, should also comprise of well-integrated professional development and assessment practices that help support and address the health needs of everyone in the learning community: from teachers, to the staff members, to parents, and to the young learners themselves. This means having, setting, and aspiring to reach realistic health goals for students and school staff that are built on accurate data and sound science: from healthy eating patterns to food safety and nutrition, to routine food services and special programs for students and staff.

A safe environment means a happy and positive environment for learning. When we consider the school as a learning environment, the first thing that comes to mind is how it is built and designed with the learner's safety as its priority. The grounds, playground equipment, vehicles, and details of the internal and external spaces of the school must be secure and must meet all established safety and environmental standards. The structures must be well-built, with good flowing spaces for walking and adequate spaces for vehicles like bicycles and other automotives. The school must also bear in mind the needs of those who are physically challenged: properly placed ramps and holding rails must be made and polished without defects. With these physical safety measures in place, the definition of safety can now be extended with further indicators that help build a space where students can feel valued, respected, and cared for. Every school that aspires to create a holistic learning environment must take into account that the behavioral and social aspects of development are also important in providing a safe space for young learners. Practicing social-emotional skills like effective listening, conflict resolution, problem solving, personal reflection and responsibility, and ethical decision making helps shape the way young learners develop their perspectives of the world and the community around them.

Learning in a rapidly changing world can be complicated, and one thing that runs through a holistic learning environment is this: connection. Broader and stronger connections between a student, the school, and the whole community that they live with is key to creating and sustaining active learning strategies and new modes of cooperative learning and project-based learning. This helps schools offer and provide a range of opportunities for every young learner to contribute to and learn within the community at large: from service learning to internships with industry partners, apprenticeships with renowned professionals in a young learner's chosen field, to civic and social volunteering projects that widen a young learner's awareness of the world around them. With the wider awareness brought about by these initiatives, young learners can now begin to be active citizens, voicing their concerns over problems that bear a relevance to their local situations and further reflect on the changing needs of a global world. When a young learner knows how their decisions resonate with the world at large, they begin making more responsible decisions that help them throughout their lives.

Personalizing learning means growing a set of strategic goals tailored for each student, one that foresees the outcomes of how a student will progress with a framework for decision-making that is based not only on what the future demands from each learner, but also on what each student's potential can bring forward, as shaped by a holistic approach to education. With the Whole Child approach, supporting a student means balancing the academic and social goals in such a way that a young learner's formative years are spent with as much freedom and fun as possible, one that promotes their growth in all aspects of life. From curricular, instructional, and school improvement decisions to the management of student performance information, every school that aspires to create a holistic learning environment must take into account how their respective school's vision and mission reflect with their policies and goals. These ideas must be communicated properly and shared as guiding values that help propel everyone forward.

The way we create what we teach is as important as how we serve them to young learners. A school that aspires towards the holistic development of every learner must make an effort to ensure that every student receives a challenging and comprehensive curriculum that covers all content areas needed for 21st century learning. Aside from having a wide-ranging curriculum, a school must also provide opportunities for young learners to hone their capacity for critical thinking and reasoning, two skills that help improve their problem-solving competency and proficiency when it comes to interacting with technology. By exposing students to worthwhile experiences like community-based programs for extra-curricular and co-curricular activities, schools provide them with hands-on knowledge that become relevant as they transition to higher education, to their respective careers, and towards their roles as citizens of a nation moving forward.

SUSTAINABILITY

To make sure that a school's integration with the Whole Child approach remains sustainable in the long run, we must foster collaboration and coordination. Implementation is key, and the way we gather data and analyze its different factors weighs in on how we decide for our learning communities. As decision-makers in the field of education, the role of professional development for school administrators, school staff, and teachers cannot be neglected. It must be individualized in the same way that the Whole Child approach creates individualized efforts to sustain a young learner's needs. Schools following the Whole Child approach must regularly review whether they are still aligned with the policies and practices promoted with the initiative to push holistic learning forward: to sustain health, safety, engagement, support, and challenge for every young Filipino learner. With organization in mind, schools must also strive to connect with local communities and agencies that foster the young learner's capacities, helping each other meet specific goals for students through active collaboration and coordinated intervention.

A NOTE FOR THE FUTURE

By sharing and opening this new approach to everyone from the students, to their families, and the schools and communities that shape their learning environment, we hope that today's students can be better equipped and improved to take on the challenges of living with the radical changes that the 4th industrial revolution has brought about. With this transition from a previously myopic focus on what is loosely considered as "academic achievement" to one that promotes the long-term development and success of every young learner, the Whole Child approach aims to support educators, families, community members, industry leaders, and policymakers to change the way they think about education through sustainable and collaborative action.

Janella Salvador and Jameson Blake' First Team Up in the Film So Connected

8:28:00 AM

Janella Salvador and Jameson Blake agree in saying that their team-up in the upcoming movie, So Connected, is significant for both of them. For one, this is their first time to work together.

For his part, Jameson explains that he has always been vocal in his past interviews that Janella is her dream leading lady.

“Before, people would always ask me, ‘If you would work with a leading lady, who would you choose?’ I’m like, ‘Maybe Janella, I think maybe we’d be a good match for a movie.’

“I’m like, ‘Someday baka may movie kami ni Janella. Maybe it would come true.’ I actually dreamt about it,” the Hashtags member recounts.

“I never really expected it would come true,” he enthuses about his granted wish.

The budding actor also points out why So Connected is a huge milestone in his showbiz career: What could be better than finally getting your first big role and be paired with your dream leading lady?

“Ito so far ang pinakamalaking role ko as a bida sa mainstream. Kasi nag-indie [movie] ako, so ito mainstream na ito. It’s like a big step in my life. “It’s really special for me. Kasi I always wanted to work with Janella. and I’m happy it actually came true,” he says with excitement.

Though it is their first team-up, Jameson is happy to hear that the staff and crew of the production team is optimismic that his onscreen partnership with Janella shows a lot of promise.

“They believe that we could actually pull off the movie. It’s a great experience,” he beams.

“They really like the movie,” referring to the production team.

Meanwhile, the team up is a breath of fresh air for Janella. She only has good words for Jameson.

“He’s very nice, actually. I have no problem working with him at all because sobrang light lang ng aura niya, sobrang good vibes lang, and masaya siya to work with,” she commends.

Coming from a solid love team in the previous Regal Entertainment movie, Janella admits that she had to adjust in working with a new leading man in the person of Jameson.

However, she welcomes this change because this will only help her to a better actress.

“Syempre, may adjustment. Medyo after a few projects with the same leading man, di ako sanay na bago, pero it’s always nice to try something new. I think it’s good growth din as an actress,” she articulates.

Janella’s role in the movie is Trisha, a self-supporting young woman, who hopes to help her family.

Popularly known for portraying teeny bopper roles, Janella finally gets the chance to portray an out-of-the-box character.

“Nag-enjoy ako dito sa role na ‘to kasi nga it’s something different for me, kasi halos lahat ng roles na ginawa ko before maarte o kaya younger.

“Ito, hindi lang mature. Mas jologs talaga yung character ko. Sobrang jologs niya,” she giggles.

“And it’s so fun to do it kasi in real life, may makulit side din talaga ako. So nalabas ko sa character na ito.”

Jameson, on the other hand, portrays Karter, a video editor for a web channel who finds himself falling for a complete stranger (Trisha) after he gets a glimpse of her life in videos and photos uploaded in the online world.

Just like Janella, Jameson also feels connected to his role.

LBC Customers in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia are Lucky To Receive the Grand Prizes

12:48:00 AM

One of the best gift to welcome the holidays is winning the grand prize of a promotion or contests. I, for one would be very much delighted if it happened to me, unfortunately it did not happened to me last holiday season. But for the lucky LBC customers it did happened to them as LBC brought joy to them in various parts of the globe and that is when they awarded the grand prizes of the promotions they conducted in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia. Now isn't it wonderful!

For the LBC-Hong Kong customers who did participate in the Stampadala promo which is transacting sea and air cargo and money remittances was given a chance to win prizes by simply sending their “padala” to loved ones in the Philippines.

Each qualified transaction corresponded to a single stamp, regardless of amount. After completing the required number of stamps, customers could exchange these for scratch cards which won for them instant prizes from LBC. It also served as their raffle coupon for the monthly and grand draws.

For the monthly raffle, winners received free remittance passes and free mini-box and medium box shipments to the Philippines. For the Grand Draw, ten lucky winners were each given an android phone. Another set of ten winners won grocery packages enclosed in LBC boxes, ready for sending to recipients in the Philippines.

Meanwhile, many hardworking OFWs in Singapore and Malaysia were also given appreciation by LBC when it awarded the grand winners of its promo billed “ May Instant Holiday Ka sa ‘Yong PADALA” last December. The tilt, held between September 1 and December 1, 2017, was a collaboration with Philippine Airlines (PAL).

To qualify and get a raffle entry, LBC customers in the two countries only needed to make sea or air cargo transactions.

For Singapore, PAL roundtrip tickets were each given to the two grand draw winners. The 2nd prize winner took home a 32-inch TV while the 3rd prize winner received an android phone. For Malaysia, one lucky LBC patron won a PAL roundtrip ticket, while the 2nd and 3rd prize winners were awarded with a 32-inch TV and android phone, respectively.

With the dual success of “Stampadala” and “May Instant Holiday Ka sa ‘Yong PADALA”, LBC is looking forward to launching more promotions this year to show how much they value their loyal customers, wherever they may be.
