Great Night At Sbarro

11:33:00 AM

It was Tuesday at exactly 5 pm, I rush out of the office and went straight to the bus terminal.  I think the distance is about 30 minutes of travel time.  It was a race against time.  I need to be there at the event at 6:30 pm.

I hop in on the first bus that arrived.  I thought I could be there on time, unfortunately, the bus didn't run to what I have expected.  It runs like a tour bus.  Now I'm doomed I don't know if I will make it.
To my disappointment I didn't make it on time but good enough I was able to be there together with my wife.

Hungry with the travel, I and my wife settled down and ate but of course I need to take pictures first before anything else.  I took a few shots and went to eating again.  Not really sure if this is my second or third time to eat Sbarro dishes but as what I can remember I really loved their pastas, especially the baked ones.   Since I love pasta I started my meal with the Baked Ziti, I liked it very much how they made it so creamy with just the right amount of flavor in it.  Then followed by the pizza with its tasty thin crust and toppings. Though the set of dishes are flavourful I would still stick to my favourite, the Baked Ziti.

While having those yummy and tasty treats from Sbarro, Mr. Fred Salvador, Sr. Vice-President for Operations of Supersalute Food Corporation (SFC), the Philipine Franchise of Sbarro, Inc. joined us and made some chit chat with us.  He even asked about what we can say about the food and how was it.  He even disclose that all of their foods are freshly made.  He also added that they make their food.  Another secret that he shared to us is that most of their staff rose from the ranks, so clearly every Sbarro employee knows the ins and outs of Sbarro operations.

Of course an event would not be complete without some good old raffle.  Luckily I get to bag the first draw with a Php2,000 worth of Gift Certificates.  Not bad for zooming straight from Pampanga.  Hahaha!  The grand prize bagged by JayL and it was an iPad 2.  Lucky guy!  It was really a great event because no one went home empty handed.  Thank you Sbarro!

A little History about Sbarro....
In 1956, Gennaro and Carmela Sbarro left Naples to migrate to the United States. Of course, their Italian roots were never far behind. Along with their three sons, Joseph, Mario and Anthony, they soon opened a salumeria, an Italian delicatessen in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, that was an exceptional showcase of authentic and fresh Italian fare, from freshly made mozzarella and homemade sausages, to traditional Italian delicacies and desserts, all based on the Sbarro family recipes.

Carmela Sbarro

As they branched out to more locations and grew into delivery for family celebrations in 1967, Carmela "Mama" Sbarro gave a new twist to the business: a restaurant with a pizza area in full view of customers and a fast moving self-service style, with the same Sbarro family tradition of delicious, authentic Italian food. The modern day Sbarro was born.

In 1972, Pampanga native Jaime "Jimmy" Salvador joined the Sbarro business. Jimmy worked alongside the original founders and their sons, living and breathing the family brand. He worked in operations as a store manager, then ran the corporate commissary in Brooklyn, and eventually served as Sbarro’s first Area Manager.

Then, in 1989, after 17 years of living in New York and working with the Sbarro family, Jimmy returned to the Philippines — carrying the Sbarro brand with him. Along with Ma. Teresa Rodriguez and her family, he opened the first Sbarro Philippines branch at the Annex in SM North Edsa in 1990 — the first Sbarro in all of Asia. Years later, Sbarro Philippines expanded to the Visayas, thanks to a partnership with Gerardo Luzuriaga and Marcelino Florete, Jr.

And so today, Sbarro Philippines continues to satisfy the cravings of Filipinos with 25 branches nationwide. And through all these years, Jaime Salvador – together with his family – ensures that Mama Sbarro’s legacy remains unchanged: the commitment to good food, fresh ingredients, excellent service and great value for money.

So what is Sbarro’s recipe for success? Over forty years later and with over 1,000 outlets worldwide, the secret remains the same. All across our values, traditions and recipes – It’s all about family.

Dream With SomedayDream's Bloggers Night

1:52:00 PM
If dreaming is what this guy did before he became famous then I think it's not too late for us to dream big and reach that dream someday.

To be honest, I don't have any idea who was the man behind Somedaydream.  No clue at all about his real name.  Then came the Selecta Cornetto disc commercial which makes me familiar with the portion of the song.  I thought it was sung by a foreign artist and realized later when Orange Magazine TV posted an invitation for the 1st Bloggers Meet-Up  with the man behind Somedaydream.  That's the time that I was able to look and check who this singer was.  His real name was Rez Toledo.

He was born under the zodiac sign of Sagittarius in 1990 and was born in Metro Manila.  Spent his high school days in Ateneo De Manila University and I'm not really much sure if his band before were created in this school.  Yup!  He did have a band before and they did gigs around the Metro but the best of all is that he is also an internet sensation.

Having one of his song used in a commercial did flared up his career and his presence in the music industry.  The idea of his song being played manually like a vinyl record did burst out the curiosity of most TV viewers.  After a few months of airing the commercial it became the song of the town.  Even kids do know that commercial and the song.

As the commercial fired up in 2011, so did  his career and his song "Hey Daydreamer" that really made a hit.  He was awarded by Yahoo Philippines as Breakthrough Artist and Icon of the Year, got the #1 spot of both Pinoy MYX countdown and MYX Hit Charts year-ender edition, RX 93.1's "Song of the Year" and also made him "OPM Artist of the Year" plus he performed at the prestigious 2011 MYX Music Awards.  A full blast of blessings for him and also a prestige for his mentor and manager ex-Hale vocalist Champ Lui Pio.

Recently, Somedaydream's self-titled debut album was released under MCA Music Inc. and it features two of his hit singles "Hey Daydreamer" and "Delivery Boys" plus four more tracks like "Prelude", "Do-do With You", "Sing This Song" and "Break".  The album also includes an acoustic version of "Hey Daydreamer".

If you want a fresh new type of sound, grab a copy of Somedaydream and feel the beat of this electropop music.

Somedaydream’s 1st Bloggers’ Meetup is brought to you by MCA Music, Mecca Music and Pinoy Magazine in cooperation with official online partner Orange Magazine TV and Blue Onion Bar and Restaurant. Special thanks to Bose, Terranova, Keds and Selecta Cornetto.

VALIENTE Makes a Comeback On TV Series

8:18:00 PM

When love, deceit and revenge get in the way of friendship, the blinding hatred that follows can lead a person to hurt those who are closest to his heart. This is the premise of a timeless story that captivated millions of Filipino viewers who tuned in to the most successful afternoon soap that first aired on Philippine TV 20 years ago –- Valiente.

After a successful run that spanned five years on two major networks, Valiente makes a grand comeback to capture once more the hearts of Filipinos who grew up watching the series as well as the new generation of viewers who would surely relate to the classic story two decades after.

Now airing on primetime for the first time and helmed by multi-awarded director Joel Lamangan, TV5’s Valiente recounts the epic tale of two families whose lives are intertwined by their desire to claim what they believe is rightfully theirs. The compelling story is given new life by a powerhouse cast of this generation’s most bankable actors, including Kapatid stars Oyo Sotto, Nadine Samonte, Niña Jose and JC De Vera.

In Valiente, viewers will witness how the admirable friendship of Theo Braganza (Oyo Sotto) and Gardo Valiente (JC De Vera) is torn by the vicious schemes of Theo’s ruthless mother, Doña Trining Braganza (Jaclyn Jose). Doña Trining manipulates the Braganza family and their business empire which resorted to labor and land disputes. The rivalry that follows between the two families is further sparked by the relationship of Gardo with Maila Braganza (Nadine Samonte). Theo and Maila’s cunning sister Leona (Niña Jose) will do everything to get in the way of this relationship in her desire to have Gardo for herself.

Joining the new generation of Valiente cast are the most-respected and highly acclaimed actors in the industry: Mark Gil, Jaclyn Jose, Gina Alajar and the original Valiente himself, Michael de Mesa.

Valiente also introduces a new set of promising young stars who will endear themselves to the viewers: Ross Pesigan (young Gardo), Liane Valentino (young Maila), Czarina Suzara (young Leona) and Arvic Rivero (young Theo). Also part of the cast are fine actors John Regala (Peping), Jim Pebanco (Ariston) and Toni Mabesa (Victorino Penitente). Moreover, Valiente proudly presents an exceptional rendition of its original theme song as performed by its original singer, Vic Sotto. The story of Valiente was originally written by highly acclaimed scriptwriter Gina Marissa Tagasa. Primetime viewing will be spicier, more exciting and more intense as the most successful teleserye premieres this February 13 on TV5.

Check Your Status in UnOfficially Yours

9:30:00 PM
I'm sure there will be more "kilig moments" this coming February 15, after the celebration of Valentines Day and also lots of couples will be checking their relationship status as well.

Does relationships need labels?  What defines a relationship?  Romance?  Intimacy? Sexual compatibility? honest-to-goodness love? are all just question lingering in every couple.  Relationship does have lots of meanings and reason it's just a matter of how we may define it.

This is the theme for one of the newest movie form Star Cinema, the "UnOfficially Yours"!
Under the direction of the box-office director, Cathy Garcia-Molina, the story of "UnOfficially Yours" starts out with a one night stand of the two lead characters!  "Ito na ang pinaka-matapang kong pelikula as fas as theme is concerned!"  says Director Cathy, "Basically it's a sotry about a guy who believes so much in love then falls in love with someone who doesn't want to fall in love.  Nagkataon kasi na the girl practices casual relationship, non-committal, no ties, ayaw n'y ng boyfriend-girlfriend, basta for fun lang!  Then the character of the guy, gusto s'yang paniwalain ulit sa love, na better pa din pag pormal na relasyon than a casual relationship!' she explains.

Aside from the brave theme, what makes "UnOfficially yours" extremely exciting is that it stars two of the country's most loved and admired actors, John Lloyd cruz and Angel Locsin! "Madaming firsts sa pelikulang 'to!" says John Lloyd, 'First time namin ni Angle sa big screen, first time namin pareho sa ganitong klaseng roles, first time ng Star Cinema na sumabak sa ganitong tema na masasabing taboo pero nangyayari naman talaga sa paligid natin pero hindi lang komportable ang marami na pag-usapan.  It's a bold step to tackle this theme, pero s'yempre with the touch of Star Cinema, talagang puso, 'yung pinaka-puso ng mg acharacters ang mapapanood dito.  This is really something new!  Something  very different!" he tells.  As the movie's theme dictates, the two will be seen in a "hot" love scene, "But that's not the movie's point!"  John Lloyd excliams and furthers, "it will be portrayed pero ang pinka-importante sa kuwento eh 'yung magiging learning ng mg acharacters namin - 'yung tama ba o hindi na i-define ang isang relationship!" he closes.

Angel Locsin, on the other hand has this to say, "gusto naming ipakit asa mga tao kung ano ba ang casual relatioship.

Extremely exciting indeed! "UnOfficially Yours" may just make us all think and rethink our relationships! It's highs and lows, joys and pain, fun and no fun, casual or formal.  "It's still a love sotry! Iba man ang paraan ng pagkukuwento namin dito, at the end of the day, it still talks about love, it talks about how beautiful lov eis!  How better it is to love than not having love at all!"  Director Cathy beams as she closes.

Now, do we really need to define relationship at all?

"UnOfficially Yours" opens on Feburary 15th, 2012 in over 100 theaters nationwide!

A Blogger's Night with Sabrina

8:21:00 PM

It was one of those nights where I enjoyed having time with some of the OPM Artists.  One, it's because it gives me a little rejuvenation after a whole day work at the office and two, hey it's our OPM artist getting to know them more, the better.  Since one of our advocacy is to support OPM Artist, this is really a good event to enjoy their music and know more of their craft.

Last Monday, for this specific night, I get a chance to be part of a pool of bloggers who get a chance for a greet and meet of one of the bubbliest female acoustic artist that I know, her screen name is SABRINA.   Beautiful, sweet and the most part "Kalog".  It's very rare to meet an artist like her.  Just what I have wrote on one of my tweets that "It was really great knowing a singer like you who praises God above all."

The evening was great for a much more intimate and interactive chat with Sabrina plus the place at Red Box: Rock, Dine, Roll was much comfy and private, so we get more chance to hear about Sabrina's background and her lovely voice.

For those who doesn't know who Sabrina was, well here's a little background about her.  Her real name is Roli Alexandra Ngo Orial or known as Xanxan.  Born in 1989 under the zodiac sign Capricorn.  Hey here's something that I'm sure everybody would normally ask why SABRINA when her name is Roli Alexandra, well according to her it was given by the previous management and since her voice were inline with bossa nova songs.  A latin feel for the voice and for the name.

Here are a portion of the video during the chat with Sabrina.

Well for the benefit other readers who doesn't know Sabrina, she's an acoustic sweetheart in Asia and Sabrina releases her follow-up single from her highly successful "I Love Acoustic 4" album her own version of the hit "Moves Like Jagger".

Another news is that last November the "I Love Acoustic 4" turned GOLD in Indonesia and this month, it is certified PLATINUM in that country.  This makes Sabrina one of the few Filipino singers to have multi-platinum success in Indonesia which other singers have tried but failed to penetrate.  The "I Love Acoustic 4" was also released in Thailand and soon in Singapore and Malaysia.  Her previous albums "I Love Acoustic", "I Love Acoustic Too" and "I Love Acoustic 3" were multi-platinum success in those countries.  She's the only Filipino female singer to break in successfully in the South East Asian market,  Her huge following abroad is now translating locally as the album is still in retail charts where it debuted at #1 at Astroplus and #9 at Odyssey upon its first week of release.  Because of her success abroad, she became a recipient of the "International Achievement Award at the recent Awit Awards where she also took home the I-Geteway Mobile Philippines, Inc.'s Most Downloaded Artist for 2010.

The album also includes the tracks "Price Tag", "Who Says", "Edge of Glory", "On the Floor", "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)", "California King Bed", "Hold It Against Me", "Rolling In The Deep", "The Lazy Song", "Back To December", "that should Be Me", "Marry Me", "Rockeeter", "Just The Way You Are" featuring Indonesian singer Calvin Jeremy and "Lucky" featuring multi-platinum crooner Richard Poon.

Catch Sabrina as she serenades SM Pasig on February 17 (Friday) at 4 pm.  those who will buy her album "I Love Acoustic 4" will get to have their CDs autographed by Sabrina herself after the show.

"I Love Acoustic 4" by Sabrina is now out in CDs under MCA Music (Universal Music Philippines) and available for download at mymusicstore.com.ph. To download Sabrina's single "Moves Like Jagger" text JGR and send to 2728 for Smart and Talk N Text subscribers, text KL343 and send to 2332 for Globe/ TM or text 5493161 and send to 2300 for Sun Cellular subscribers.  For more of Sabrina's music, just text SABRINA to 3456 or check out www.facebook.com/mcamusic.

A Bloggers' Evening with Sabrina is brought to you by MCA Music in cooperation with Pinoy Magazine, Orange Magazine TV and Red Box: Rock, Dine, Roll.

Here's a little words from Sabrina to the bloggers.

Healthy Night With SOYAMI at Tourne

12:28:00 AM

Last January25, 2012 was one of the healthiest night I've ever attended.  First the event was initiated by AM Global Works Marketing Corporation who delightfully created the SOYAMI food snacks, second the events venue was known for their Slow Food advocates and it was called the Tourne which really provides the very best and nutritious food for us, and lastly I get to bring home healthy products for me and my family.

Our sumptuous dinner were SOYAMI inspired and I think I have tasted almost all of them but the only thing that I missed is the names of those totally yummy recipes.  Perhaps they'll be sending it to us one of this days.  Hopefully so that I could try it and have it for my family as well.

Another part of being healthy is getting fit by means of exercise and one of the sponsors Fitness First was able to provide few information that will benefit most of us who doesn't really know that much.  It is said that fit and healthy always come together.  You can be fit but your not healthy or you can be healthy but not fit.  So it's like Batman and Robin it should always be in motion together.

Aside from the healthy foods that they've introduced, the event was also the venue for awarding the winners of their contest "Soyami: Snacking Without the Guilt".   The event was hosted by none other than their Health Ambassador Mark Nelsen, unfortunately Rovilson Fernandez couldn't make it that time but anyway Mark Nelsen alone did make our night not only healthy but as well as lively.

And the winners of the "Soyami: Snaking Without the Guilt" are 3rd Prize - Richard Mamuyac, 2nd Prize - Melanie Abuel and the 1st Prize - Paige San Juan.  Well, for me better try next time! If SOYAMI will have another contest like this.  Hehehe!  At the end of the evening everyone did get a bag of goodies from their sponsors Q-Life: FaceOne, Suncoast: Lightwater and Vitamin Boost, Fruit Magic, Fernbelly - Treehugger, Haribon Foundation, Rudy Project, Tourne and Fitness First

Anyway, if you're wondering how was the Soyami Soya Chips Food Snack came about well it was the idea of Ms. Apple Morales (she looks like Jessa Zaragosa), President and Owner of AM Global Works Marketing Corp.  According to her "Although our children have prepared snacks and food during their recess or lunch breaks, we cannot guarantee they won't buy or share with their classmates' bag of junk food" she continues "So instead of reprimanding them for eating the crunch-and-munch food they love, why not give them the same snack feel that is low in calorie count and sugar and is an excellent source of protein and fiber?"

Why soya? According to factoids.com, the yield of protein from soybeans is about twice that of meat, 12 times that of milk and four times that of eggs.

In addition, soy is also crucial for healthy brain cells. The brain which is formed by 20 percent phospholipids or more specifically lecithin is one of the substances found in soy. Therefore, including soy in kids’ diet generally contributes to better learning capabilities, brain performance and vitality while enhancing brain memory. Since soy has the most abundant properties of calcium and iron compared with other legumes, it can contribute in building healthy bones while producing hemoglobin or red blood cells needed for transporting oxygen in the body, a benefit that befits active and growing children.

On the other hand, for children who are computer and television addicts, Soyami Soya Chips may be an option to replace potato chips. Soy prevents child obesity because it is low in carbohydrates and it makes one feel fuller for a longer period of time.

Furthermore, with the isoflavone compounds it possesses called Genistein, it aids the body to stay lean and produce fewer and smaller fat cells.

Thus, Soyami Soya Chips, made of non-genetically modified organism (GMO) soya imported from Canada, will not cause food allergies, obesity, diabetes and some food-related diseases in any way, contrary to food with little or no nutritional value that contain high levels of flavor enhancers, saturated fats, salt, and sugar minus the required dietary fiber intake. It may also be enjoyed and cooked in other ways, as replacement for crunchy croutons used in salads and soups or as breadcrumbs for pork, chicken and fish fillets when crushed.

And being Halal-certified food, the manufacture of Soyami Soya Chips also took into consideration the dietary requirements of our health-conscious Muslim brothers.

Morales further enthused, “Soyami Soya Chips proves that not all food coming out from inviting snack packaging are junk but rather can be another good source of guilt-free snacking that promotes healthy eating habits as well.”

Soyami Soya Chips, those healthy-goodness snacks that appear like nacho chips come in Original, White Cheddar and Pizza flavors, are now available in leading supermarkets and groceries and in convenience stores throughout Metro Manila, Cebu and Davao.
