World Vision's 5K Campaign Challenge Supported by Student Fundraiser to Helps Thousands of Learners

9/15/2021 11:14:00 AM

Students across the Philippines once again showed their support for fellow learners whose education were affected by the pandemic by joining World Vision’s 2020 5K Campaign Challenge, a fundraising initiative for the benefit of the child-focused organization’s COVID-19 emergency response.

Going above and beyond their goals, World Vision’s student ambassadors were able to raise more than PHP 300,000 and the total amount of donations will be used to help over 3,000 learners all over the country.

The 5K Campaign Challenge’s objective is to encourage the participating students to fundraise among their peers and relatives to help children receive modules and gadgets to continue their education.

During the pandemic, the common challenge among children have been their education, which was why Abutin Nat10 was selected as the focus of the 2020 5K Campaign Challenge. Funds raised for Abutin Na10, a program created by World Vision in partnership with DepEd, will contribute to DepEd’s Learning Continuity Plan and its multi modal approaches, so that children can continue to learn and develop their life skills even in these difficult times. The students who participated in the 5K Campaign Challenge came from schools across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao in a Virtual Congratulatory Event hosted by World Vision, the following students were recognized because of their huge contribution to make the initiative a great success.

The Top Advocates or students who encouraged others to join the campaign are Arisha of Brent International School, who invited friends to participate in the fundraising and even partnered with a local business to reach her goals, Carina of Homeschool Global, who also invited 3 other friends to fundraise with her and Bernice of Homeschool Global, who advocated for the cause through a livestream performance.

The First Achievers or students who first achieved the target goal of PHP 5,000 are Paige of Homeschool Global, Imma of Paref Woodrose, and Luisa of De La Salle MHSI.

Meanwhile, the Top Fundraisers of the 5K Campaign Challenge are Kreisha of Homeschool Global, Yashmin of Ateneo De Cebu, and Margau Leanne of Beacon Academy.

“I was reading several articles on how to do volunteer work as a teenager who was being discouraged to go out during the pandemic. I wanted to be useful, to contribute to the success of others and to help. What do I do to figure out where to start? World Vision happened to teach me how to answer that question. With that, I would love to take this opportunity to thank this organization for giving the youth the chance to contribute and be the change society wishes to see,” said Leanne, the Top Fundraiser from Beacon Academy who was able to raise PHP 92,000 for the initiative.

“Being accepted into the student ambassadorship program will remain a huge blessing to me as it opened me to the path I’ve always wanted to take during the pandemic, which is to be able to help even if I was restricted to the four corners of my bedroom. Being awarded as one of the top fundraisers made me realize a lot of things… in that even during tough times, there are still some people willing to extend their helping hand to those who need it,” Leanne shared.

World Vision Celebrity Ambassador Jasmine Curtis-Smith led the 5K Campaign Challenge by inspiring everyone to unite and become #OneForChildren especially during this challenging period.

“The reality is that not everyone has access to internet or gadgets. This campaign will provide students with different modes of learning because we believe that their education should not be affected or stopped because of Covid-19. Again, Abutin Na10 sampung piso, sampung araw, sampung milyong Pilipino para sa sampung milyong mag-aaral!” said Curtis-Smith.

Meanwhile, the Perkins Twins Jesse and Christian also congratulated the youth who steps up to help others during these trying times. “What you guys do is such an amazing thing because obviously it helps those in need but also they’re the next generation, they’ll never forget the help you’ve given them,” Jesse said.

Also supporting the 5K Campaign Challenge are World Vision’s corporate partners Promate and Urbanize.

“It’s so inspiring to see students helping and supporting fellow students, especially the ones who need our help. Thank you for sharing joy and hope to them. We find that the times creating anxiety for us, sapping the hope from our hearts, these are the same things that spur us to get out of our comfort zones and try to become the better version of our ourselves in order to reach out and be a blessing to others,” said Jun Godornes, World Vision Resource Development Director.

“We also hope you discovered something new about yourself, what you are most passionate about, how you can do things you thought were impossible...and become the change agents that we need to see more in this world,” Godornes added.

Eight singers fight for their dreams in 5th "Tawag ng Tanghalan" finals on "It's Showtime"

9/14/2021 12:31:00 PM

This coming Saturday, one of eight singers from different parts of the country will change their life forever as they battle it in the fifth "Tawag ng Tanghalan" grand finals on "It's Showtime"

Find out who among finalists Reiven Umali, Froilan Cedilla, Psalm Manalo, Gem Christian, Adrian Manibale, Anthony Castillo, Lorraine Galvez and Aixia Mallary will follow the footsteps of Noven Belleza, Janine Berdin, and Elaine Duran, and JM Yosures.

The new champion will win P1 million, a brand new house and lot from Camella worth P2.3 million, a recording contract with ABS-CBN Music, a management contract under Star Magic's Polaris, and a trophy designed by Toym Imao.

During the mediacon of the Tawag ng Tanghalan, we were able to ask the Hurados if they have already seen potentials to these finalists and who among they think will be hailed as the Grand Champion? The Hurados graciously shared that each one of them has their favorites already but sometimes things change on the day of the final round.

During the first round, the finalists are set to showcase their chosen 'pangmalakasang' song. At the end, only the three finalists with the highest scores from the judges will move on to the last round.

Like the past 'Huling Tapatan,' the three remaining finalists will perform a medley of their musical influences. Compared to the first round, half of the scores of the contestants will come from the votes of the viewers. The finalist who garners the highest combined scores from the judges' scores and votes from the madlang people will take home the fifth "TNT" grand champion title.

Who among the eight finalists will prevail? Don't miss the intense battle in the 'Huling Tapatan' of "Tawag sa Tanghalan" on "It's Showtime" on A2Z channel on free TV and digital TV boxes, Kapamilya Channel on cable and satellite TV, Kapamilya Online Live on ABS-CBN Entertainment’s YouTube channel and Facebook page, and on the iWantTFC app (iOs and Android) and on iwanttfc.com. Three Shopee Sellers Gear Up for 9.9 Super Shopping Day to Scale their Business

9/09/2021 08:00:00 AM

The current global situation brought about significant lifestyle changes: more people are working from home, consumers are shopping online for their convenience, and business owners are transitioning to online and e-commerce platforms to stay afloat. Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, shares three sellers who found success online with Shopee and how they are preparing for the much-anticipated 9.9 Super Shopping Day.

Obra Ni Juan: Supporting Employees and their Families

Obra Ni Juan, a local clothing store, halted their operations inside a leading mall when the pandemic hit. They decided to shift to online selling to continue their business, launching their Shopee store last June 2021. Obra Ni Juan started to make their products available to a bigger and wider audience while continuously generating sales even with their physical stores being closed. “Because of Shopee, our employees are able to continue providing for their families despite these trying times.”

They are content with the Shopee Seller experience as Shopee provided them with an assigned Incubation Manager who guides them through the onboarding process and supports them in maximizing the different tools they can use to increase sales and foot traffic. With 9.9 approaching, Obra Ni Juan says, “We are bolstering our stocks for our existing products and we have been continuously preparing new items and designs to offer to our Shopee customers. We will also utilize other Shopee marketing incentives such as free Shopee Ad Credits; which leads to clicks that are converted to actual sales and continue to utilize the available marketing tools to scale our business.”

Cleanstar: Building Customer Loyalty

Cleanstar is a one-stop shop for all dental floss needs that supplies affordable, innovative, and high-quality dental floss pick products. During the early stages of their business, they saw Shopee as an opportunity to extend their reach. “By regularly attending the online webinars organized by Shopee and accessing helpful resources on educational hubs, we managed to set up our Shopee online store. The key is utilizing everything that Shopee offers and to just be consistent in what you are doing.”

Cleanstar leverages Shopee Live and In-App Business Insights the most. “Through Shopee Live, we can discuss our product line to our customers and also educate people regarding oral health which helped us gain more followers. Through In-app Business Insights, we also get to monitor the overall performance and health of our store through data and inform us on which aspects we can improve on, and allows us to reply to customers’ feedback about our products. It’s really humbling to see the growth in our follower numbers, and how they give feedback every time they order.”

With the number of orders they were receiving, Cleanstar eventually decided to hire a team just for fulfilling Shopee orders. This coming 9.9, Cleanstar is preparing its stocks early to fulfill orders without the hassle. They also put up ads on the site to improve the visibility of the products.

Martipaps Gift Shop: Increased Daily Orders

Martipaps Gift Shop started selling on Shopee in 2016. They sell various kinds of toys from building blocks and toy cars to mini kitchen sets and pop-up tent playhouses. In the past, they used to do meet-ups and pick-ups, but it took up too much time. “The time spent on doing meet-ups was transformed by selling on Shopee because of its free shipping and Shopee guarantee. A door-to-door cash-on-delivery service where buyers can feel at ease with their purchase. Martipaps saw an increase in sales as they managed to save time on doing meet-ups to focus on managing their store on Shopee.”

Ever since joining Shopee, her orders grew from one shipment a day to about 100 packages daily. She encourages aspiring entrepreneurs to try being a Shopee seller. “Start small. Start from the things you love, because if you love what you are doing you will never get tired of it. You will look for more exciting things, improvements, and additions to make your shop better. Utilize all the tools that Shopee offers - they are like helping hands that can support us to succeed in the online selling business.”

ASEAN Music Showcase Festival Gears Up For 2021 Edition This Week With Robust Program Additions

9/06/2021 11:23:00 AM

The second edition of ASEAN Music Showcase Festival (AMS) kicks off with week-long activities spotlighting the thriving music scenes in the region aimed at fostering stronger and sustainable global connections amidst a pandemic-stricken industry and well after.

This year, AMS continues its program expansion with the latest addition of week-long panel discussions beginning on Monday, September 6, featuring respected music industry leaders in Asia and beyond.

Deeper exchanges

AMS co-organizers recognize the importance of collaboration. Having built their professional and creative relationships through participating in international showcases and conferences through the years, one of the integral parts of these events is the panel discussions.

The esteemed panelists represent various music showcase festivals, agencies, labels, managements, and other music organizations and companies, including LUCfest, Sun Eater, DMZ Peace Train/Flipped Coin Music, The Venopian Solitude, Seen Scene Space, MASPAM Records, SCAPE, Warner Music Asia, and Tunecore.

Guest speakers and moderators will delve into topics including touring around Southeast Asia (September 6); identifying and differentiating consumer versus showcase festivals (September 7); dissecting case studies of successful ASEAN artists (September 8); the roles of independent and major music labels in today’s musical landscape (September 9); and a candid talk from AMS organizers themselves (September 10). The panel discussions will stream live on AMS’ Facebook daily at 8 PM, Singapore time.

Celebrating multi-genre, multicultural music artistry

As a showcase festival untethered to conventional methods of traditional or consumer music festivals, it’s vital for AMS to match the right artists with the right kind of talent buyers. “Seeing it through my own experience, music conference and showcase festival delegates who are most active are the ones who energetically jump from venue to venue hoping to see as many bands as possible. So, for AMS we also try to select artists who have that same secret sauce but do not have to belong in the same genres,” shares co-organizer Piyapong ‘Py’ Muenprasertdee.

Over the weekend (September 11-12), AMS will broadcast genre-defying sets from 28 ASEAN artists from ASEAN, including indie-pop band Sobs and singer-songwriter Kitty Purrnaz, which were added as part of the Singapore artist lineup.

Cultivating opportunities

The final part of AMS 2021’s program takes place on Monday, September 13. The privately held virtual networking event aims to open doors for ASEAN artists to grow and expand their network. Delegates from the panel discussions and representatives from ASEAN-based Okhna Park, Berita Angkasa, Gelombang Maju Jaya, FFWD Records, Amity Asia, altspace.id, Tala Records Asia, The Wknd, TONGTONG Asia, Raising The Bar, Island Records Philippines, Indie Manila, GNN Entertainment Productions, Melt Records, Where Are The Fruits, Pulse City, HipHopDX Asia, Baybeats/The Esplanade, Speakerbox, Cat Radio & Cat Expo, Big Mountain Music Festival, Maho Rasop Festival, Coracle Festival, Locally Trapped Wildlife, Hanoi Community Radio, and 1900 Le Théâtr, Dusted Recordings, and Gig Life Pro will join in the virtual networking event.

International delegation (specifically East Asia, Australasia, Europe, and North America) comprise of MusicDish 独立小炒, New Noise, Sound of the Xity, Inter Idoru, Music From Okinawa, BIG ROMANTIC RECORDS, Highjinkx/Beeline Records, Golden Melody Awards, Tron Music, Clockenflap, Victorian Music Development Office (VMDO), This Much Talent, Club Media, Achord Agency, Earth Beat, Live At Heart, Smallfish Artist Management Agency, SXSW, Small World Music / Global Toronto, Beat House, and Jaded Media LLC.

Jackie Chan is one of the most recognized and respected actors around, and he also has plenty of stunt-performing and filmmaking credits up his sleeve. While most of us will never be the awesome actor Jackie Chan is, we can still emulate certain aspects of the A-lister’s persona, such as his zeal, discipline, and dedication to his craft.

At Shopee’s 9.9 Super Shopping Day, check out some of the best deals to help you channel your inner Jackie Chan:

Get motivated by his active and healthy lifestyle

You don’t have to do stunts like Jackie Chan—and since it’s potentially dangerous, we would advise you against doing so—but you could surely take notes from the man’s dedication to his exercise regime, which reportedly includes weightlifting and martial arts training. Create a workout schedule, grab a Kool Non-Slip Mat, and start working out.

As an action star, Jackie Chan performs plenty of stunts and follows tough workouts, which can drain the body of fluids. To stay in top shape, don’t forget to stay hydrated. Always make sure to carry a Klean Kanteen Insulated Tumbler with you during workouts.

Incorporate his cool, low-key fashion sense into your wardrobe

In his movies, Jackie Chan wears plenty of comfortable outfits so he can perform his signature kung-fu moves with ease. Whether you’re working out or just dressing down an outfit, look as cool as Jackie Chan himself with the classic Adidas Track Jacket. This supremely comfortable jacket is made from Parley Ocean Plastic yarn sourced from upcycled plastic waste.

Find inspiration from his values and past works

Jackie Chan went through a lot to become the iconic star he is today. First Time in "It's Showtime" G-FORCE Sweeps “MADLANG PI-POLL and Wins P150,000 Jackpot Prize

9/05/2021 09:00:00 AM

Last September 2, Thursday, members of the dance group G-Force rejoiced as they made history on “It’s Showtime” by becoming the first batch of studio players to sweep all seven rounds of “Madlang Pi-Poll,” the Philippines’ first interactive game segment on TV.

Jorge Marvin, Myka Gonzaga, and John Michael took home the jackpot prize of P105,000 plus an additional P45,000 for correctly guessing all of the answers of home viewers to seven poll-based questions.

The final question was “Paano mo malalaman ‘pag nanlalamig na siya sa relasyon? (How will you know your relationship has turned cold?).” Out of the six choices, the dancers picked “Wala nang oras (When they can no longer find time for you),” which turned out to be the answer of the majority of home viewers (33%).

Home viewers, meanwhile, were not left empty-handed as three of them won ABS-CBN merchandise as consolation prizes.

The hit segment has seen a steady increase in participating home viewers all over the country since its launch in July, as it recorded an all-time high of 84,272 active players last August 27.

“Madlang Pi-Poll” gives studio players and home viewers the chance to win cash prizes by answering poll questions. The prize is added to the studio players’ pot money if their answer matches the majority vote of home viewers. Otherwise, the money will be added to the total of the home players, which will then be evenly divided among randomly drawn winners.

To join the game, viewers, using their laptop or mobile device, can log on to www.joinnow.ph/showtime or scan the QR code that will be flashed on-screen and answer the game’s poll-based questions during the live segment.

A participant must be a Filipino citizen living in the Philippines, at least 18 years old, and has a valid ID. But to qualify for the raffle draw and get a chance to win prizes, they must register and provide their full name, address, age, phone number, and e-mail address after answering the final question in the game.

Let your voice be heard by joining “Madlang Pi-Poll” from Mondays to Saturdays on “It’s Showtime” on A2Z channel on free TV and digital TV boxes, Kapamilya Channel on cable and satellite TV, Kapamilya Online Live on ABS-CBN Entertainment’s YouTube channel and Facebook page, and on the iWantTFC app (iOs and Android) and on iwanttfc.com. Viewers outside of the Philippines can also catch it on The Filipino Channel on cable and IPTV.

How To Nail Your PBB KUMU Audition From the “PBB” EX-HOUSEMATES

9/05/2021 08:21:00 AM

It's that season where aspirants and dreamers work their audition skits for the biggest house in the Philippines, but since this time is quite different the worldwide search for the next batch of housemates for “Pinoy Big Brother Kumunity Season 10” has officially started on the Pinoy community platform, Kumu.

So, if you're eager and hopes to be shortlisted, and get through, here are some advice from the Ex-PBB housemates.

Take note of the schedules. If you are 20 to 40 years old, you can audition for this season’s adult edition from September 1 until September 30. Audition for the Teen Edition (15 to 19 years old), meanwhile will be from December 1 to 31.

Here are to tips and bits of help for your PBB journey from the “PBB” ex-housemates from different seasons, how to nail your Kumu audition.

1) BE AUTHENTIC – “PBB SEASON 1” BIG WINNER NENE TAMAYO

The very first “PBB” Big Winner said that a sure-fire way to nail the auditions is to be true to one’s self.

Magpakatotoo sa sarili is one the values that is always highlighted inside the “PBB” house and is also the same trait that will lead you to becoming an official housemate.

“Be authentic, be true to yourself and always give your best,” said “Kumander Nene” during the “PBB Kumunity Season 10” Party last August 27 on Kumu.

2) DON’T BE PA-SHOWBIZ – “PBB SEASON 1” THIRD BIG PLACER CASS PONTI, “PBB SEASON 1” ALUMNA SAY ALONZO, “PBB ALL IN” ALUMNUS FIFTH SOLOMON & “PBB CELEBRITY EDITION 1” BIG WINNER KEANNA REEVES

There's no room for pretenders in "PBB," according to Nene's batchmates, Say and “PBB Season 1” Third Big Placer, Cass. They said that one's true character will surely show in the reality TV program.

“PBB Celebrity Edition 1” Big Winner Keanna Reeves echoed their statement saying, there’s really no point in trying to be someone you’re not just to impress the panel. The best thing to do is to present yourself as you are.

In the words of “PBB All In” alumnus Fifth Solomon, “’wag mo pilitin ‘yung parang magda-drama ka. Ipakita mo kung sino ka ‘pag mag-isa ka.”

3) DON’T PLAY IT SAFE – “PBB TEEN EDITION 4” 4TH BIG PLACERS JOJ AND JAI AGPANGAN

Twins Joj and Jai from “PBB Teen Edition 4” know that “PBB” auditions are always a blockbuster. They said to stand out from the crowd, avoid playing it safe. Show what you’re capable of and put the spotlight on your uniqueness in the short span of time you’re given.

“Ipakita mo kung ano’ng kaya mo. Kung ano ‘yung kakaiba sa ‘yo. ‘Wag safe kasi baka hindi mapansin,” said the ladies from Bacolod.

4) EMBRACE YOUR QUIRKS – “PBB 737” 4TH BIG PLACER DAWN CHANG & “PBB CELEBRITY EDITION 2” ALUMNUS BARON GEISLER

Leave your insecurities at the door, says “PBB: 737” 4th Big Placer, Dawn Chang. Instead of being embarrassed about your quirks, embrace them because it makes you unique. “Unahin niyo weirdest stuff about you, mga nakakahiya at nakakatawa.”

“PBB Celebrity Edition 2” housemate Baron Geisler agreed saying, “Hindi naman judgmental si Kuya. Mas gusto niya ‘yung mga taong makulay, may karakter.”

5) SHOW YOUR INTERESTS - “PBB OTSO” BIG WINNER YAMYAM GUCONG & “PBB LUCKY SEASON 7” ALUMNUS NIKKO NATIVIDAD

For “PBB Otso” Big Winner Yamyam Gucong and “PBB Lucky 7” housemate Nikko Natividad, it’s more important to share your different interests and be natural because “PBB” looks for personality and character than looks.

“Be natural sa video mo. May hinahanap si Big Brother na uniqueness mo,” said YamYam. While Nikko said, “’Wag niyo na lagyan ng filter. Mas magfocus kayo sa ano ang ugali niyo, sa’n kayo interesado.”

6) PRAY ABOUT IT - “PBB CONNECT” BIG WINNER LIOFER PINATACAN

When you think you’ve done everything right, it’s time to offer it up to the Most High. That is the advice of “PBB Connect” Big Winner, Liofer Pinatacan. As a spiritual guy, Liofer shared that it’s all up to Him if being a housemate is in your cards.

“Prayer lang din talaga. Kung para sa ‘yo, para sa ‘yo yan. Ipakita mo kung ano ‘yung napakagandang kwento ng buhay mo,” said Liofer.

7) DON’T OVERTHINK IT – “PBB OTSO” ALUMNUS FUMIYA SANKAI

“PBB Otso” finalist Fumiya Sankai has a simple advice. Don’t overthink your audition and just focus on how you can make your personality shine. “Don’t think too much. Just be yourself,” he said.

Now that you’ve learned from the ex-housemates, it’s time to put the lessons into action and start reaching for your dream. Again, to audition, just download the Kumu app, create an account, and upload a one minute kumu clip introducing yourself and share why you deserve to become a housemate. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #PBBKumuAdults for the Adult Edition and #PBBKumuTeens for the Teen Edition.
