Get ready to immerse yourself in a divine musical experience as WATERWALK RECORDS releases their new worship compilation album, "Sambahan".

7:27:00 AM

Music label WATERWALK RECORDS has recently unveiled a new compilation album aimed at promoting faith-based entertainment artists to the modern streaming audience. The album is packed with powerful declarations of love, worship, and faith.

Entitled SAMBAHAN, is a new record that boasts 11 awe-inspiring tracks that showcase the talents of various worship leaders from different Christian churches and congregations.

SAMBAHAN is more than just an album; it's a project that embodies the spirit of collaboration and connection. The record features original Tagalog worship songs, written and composed by members of the KONEKOLAB Worship fellowship - a group of church-based songwriters. The tracks are then performed and interpreted by worship leaders, creating a diverse and dynamic collection of music.

Jungee Marcelo, the main producer and A&R of the label responsible for SAMBAHAN, describes the project as a product of the KONEKOLAB "worship" endeavor. “SAMBAHAN is a compilation of original Tagalog worship songs written and composed via the KONEKOLAB Worship fellowship of Church-based songwriters, and interpreted by worship leaders.”

“The concept was developed within the KONEKOLAB ‘worship’ endeavor —- a convening of like-minded music artists who ‘connect and collaborate’ in an unconventional lab setting,” Jungee added.

SAMBAHAN is not only a celebration of music but also a celebration of the power of faith and community. It's a reminder that no matter our backgrounds or beliefs, we can come together to create something beautiful and inspiring. With its uplifting lyrics and dynamic arrangements, SAMBAHAN is a must-listen for fans of Christian music and beyond.

According to Marcelo, the songs were pitched to WATERWALK Records, and eventually got the greenlight of the executives. He considers the project a blessing as it is created for the sole purpose of glorifying the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

He reveals, “The plan is to release one song every week in a compilation aptly entitled SAMBAHAN. Initially, it was dubbed as ‘Worship’ but Sony Music Philippines head Roslyn Pineda thought it was better to come up with a project title in Filipino since all the songs are in the local lingo. We ended up with the nomenclature ‘SAMBAHAN’ which in essence has three distinct context definitions: a. act of worship, b. communal worship, liturgy, c. a place of worship.”

Marcelo, who also happens to be the founder of KONEKOLAB, narrates that SAMBAHAN initially started when he posted an invitation to a group of grassroots, Church-based songwriters back in December 2022 for a collaborative take on a worship song. What was initially a one-time endeavor grew into more work being submitted by participants in the pool, with Marcelo having to filter the choices down to forty participants. The Lord, as Marcelo recounts, provisionally led him to selecting 40 potential songwriters and divide them into 10 teams, 4 per team.

“The late evenings and early mornings of December were invested in daily online songwriting collab-turned-mentoring sessions, a team at a time, rotating in shifts,” he shares enthusiastically. “By the end of December, the songs were finally completed --- praise God for His wisdom and enabling.”

Containing music styles that naturally complement each individual and communal preferences, SAMBAHAN features themes that adhere to the overall concept of worship. The songs were produced by Jungee Marcelo himself, and were arranged with each musician providing personal inputs to enhance the overall sound texture of the material, resulting into a wonderfully crafted piece of worship offering.

Rico Blanco, one of the OPM icons, unifies Filipinos through a spin of the hit Pinoy Big Brother theme song "Pinoy Ako". Renaming it to "Pinoy Tayo" This is after 16 years the song was first heard and eventually became an anthem of empowerment for many Filipinos.

Rico’s special anniversary version of the Orange and Lemons original “Pinoy Ako” will serve as the official theme song of the upcoming "Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) Kumunity Season 10."

“It’s such an honor to do the song. Just what it stands for. The original version is so well-loved,” he said. “This is a chance to rediscover it.”

Now with vibrant elements of Filipino ethnic sound, “Pinoy Tayo” is a composition of ABS-CBN Music creative director Jonathan Manalo, Clem Castro, and Rico, who also produced the remake while Jonathan served as the surpervising producer.

Rico detailed his inspiration in making the new version. “Tinanong ko ang sarili ko ‘ano ba 'yung ako’ and I put in all the small elements that my songs had throughout the years,” he shared.

“Excited ako about that happiness na mabibigay ng kanta. It’s a very bright, upbeat song, and I kept that from the original version,” he added.

Aside from being this year’s PBB theme song, “Pinoy Tayo” will also serve as the lead single in the expansive 25-track album that will celebrate the music of Jonathan in the last 20 years.

The multi-awarded songwriter and producer remains in awe of how the song has become a statement on Pinoy pride and how it continues to uplift the spirits of generations of Pinoy audiences.

“I’m grateful to hear people saying that this song has become part of the soundtrack of their lives,” Jonathan shared. “As I embark on my 20th anniversary in the music industry this year, an icon, a legend who I look up to helped me kickstart the celebration by re-imagining this song with his genius.”

Jonathan also spoke about what the song “Pinoy Tayo” means to him. “Ito yung gusto naming ibigay sa audience na mapagaan man lang ang pinagdadaaanan nating lahat at magbigay ng hope at inspirasyon individually and as a nation. Aia de Leon, Barbie Almalbis, Kitchie Nadal, Johnoy Danao, Ebe Dancel, and Bullet Dumas Co-Headline a Kumu Digital Concert Entitled ‘ALPAS’

12:58:00 AM

When was the last time I heard a live concert? Well, I think it has been two years already. I missed the sound, I missed the noise and most of all I missed attending live events.

Thankfully, technology is friendly enough to get through us right before the pandemic that is why after realizing that we won't be having physical concerts and events for a time being, technology pave way for a new norm of enjoying music.

Get ready for a night of soaring anthems and classic sing-alongs as kumu live and GNN hold a virtual concert featuring some of the finest Filipino singer-songwriters of all time.

Dubbed ALPAS, the digital show not only aims to bring live performances for the streaming public, but also promises music fans to experience a semblance of ‘concert’ normalcy in an intimate, stripped-down setting.

Renowned alternative/pop-rock/folk icons Aia de Leon, Barbie Almalbis, Kitchie Nadal, Ebe Dancel, Johnoy Danao and Bullet Dumas mark their first time to co-headline a show together, performing as both solo artists and collaborators. The six music acts are also set to perform as a group in a special medley number arranged and produced by award-winning musical director, Ronaldo Tomas.

With new security and health protocols in place, the virtual showcase will be shot at the outdoor area of Conspiracy Garden Café, an iconic music venue that is home to several music greats and independent bands, and in Madrid, Spain where Kitchie Nadal is currently based.

As expected, Nadal is excited to be part of this once-in-a-lifetime collaboration, and has all the great words to say about the upcoming online show. “I’m excited to work with the artists that I admire in the music industry. It’s an opportunity that I wouldn’t want to miss.” Barbie Almalbis explains that this is as close to playing for a live audience, and that performing in Conspiracy again makes her feel nostalgic. “I’m more than happy to share the stage with the artists that I look up to, and hopefully, the energy and enthusiasm would resonate with the music fans once they see it on the virtual screen. It’s something that we’ve worked hard for.”

Aia, Barbie and Kitchie (ABK) have staged a sold-out, collaborative concerts at the Music Museum in 2016 and 2017, and held a benefit online show in 2020 to raise funds for the employees of indie music venues in Metro Manila. Ebe, Johnoy, and Bullet (3D) on the other hand, have performed as 3D, and went on to headline three, sold-out concerts: twice at the Music Museum in 2015 and 2016, and at the Kia Theatre in 2018. These concerts were organized and produced by GNN.

Bullet Dumas admits that he missed performing, and that ALPAS came at the right time when everyone needs a source of entertainment to keep them going while public life is on lockdown. “I haven't performed in an actual show since early pandemic,” the young music virtuoso shares in a statement. “People in the live events industry are barely surviving, so this opportunity from KUMU and GNN means a lot to me. And I know how a simple show can move people especially in this crazy era of our lives.”

Johnoy Danao admits that this is the very first time since 2020 that 3D will be reunited together, and he wouldn’t want to miss it for the world. He’s also looking forward to working with Aia, Barbie and Kitchie on this special project. “It’ll be the first time that all of us are performing together, so I think that’s something to look forward to.”

When asked about what makes ALPAS worth watching despite the lack of an actual “live” audience, Aia De Leon takes pride in what the virtual concert stands for especially in the time of pandemic. “ALPAS is your connection to something real. When the songs hit home, this is your connection to the memory as well as the future promise of the live gig experience.”

Ebe Dancel echoes Aia’s sentiments, stressing the importance of music in forging a sense of community amidst the most challenging of times. “People, in my opinion, will always need music. As much as we miss the live audience, this will have to do for now. Someday, somehow, we will all see each other again.”

ALPAS: A Digital Concert is set to premiere on June 5, 2021 from 6pm onwards. Tickets to ALPAS are now available for purchase via kumu, with a price of P499 for general admission. For details on how to buy tickets, go to this site: www.kumu.live

EZ Mil's Song "Panalo," Why It Became So Popular?

1:11:00 AM

Aside from my idol, Gary V, I'm in all praises to the King of Pinoy Rap. The very first artist who made rap with real Filipino flavor - Francis M. The Pinoy Rap wouldn't be as it is today without the name Francis M. After that first shout of that iconic line 'Mga Kababayan!' It became the starting point of Pinoy Rap History. And like what they say, the rest is history.

Now, let's get into this new and viral Pinoy Rapper who's making a buzz in the music scene. Not only here in the Philippines, but probably, the world.

The Beginning

A few days after the release of his guesting in Wish Bus USA, the uploaded video went boom, massively, with its views, in other words, it went viral. People started talking about the video first, and then everyone starts asking who this rapper is. Who is EZ Mil? Pronounced as letter E and letter Z with the Mil.

The Music

Hearing the intro of the song actually reminded me of my elementary days. The Folk dances that we used to study and practice at school. Fortunately, I'm also one of the dance troops that moves my feet into folk dances. So the music is familiar, and probably every Pinoy students know the melody.

The Singer

Honestly, I don't know EZ Mil was, not until I started looking for his background. And thanks to technology and the internet, it is much easier to check pieces of information that happened decades ago. What I have heard, EZ Mil is the son of the lead vocalist of a band in the 90s. Paul Sapiera, the leader and vocalist of the band called Rockstar.

Side info about the band, they made a few song hits in the past.

The Lyrics

After hearing the song of EZ Mil "Panalo," it somehow brought me back in time when I first caught  the song "Mga Kababayan Ko." Not just because both of the songs started with the same phrase, 'Mga Kababayan,' but because of the Filipino flavor infused with the song.

To understand the impact of the song "Panalo" by EZ Mil, I will try to evaluate the lyrics from a perspective of a fan and a true-blooded patriotic Pinoy. In simple term will dissect the song and its lyric, why it hit everyone bullseye right into the heart. But before anything else, I just want to say that I am not a musician or a composer, but I'm just a person who appreciates music and the arts. All the observations you'll be reading here are all my thoughts about the song, so be gentle on your criticism, thank you.

So, let start!

I managed to divide the lyrics into three parts, one is words used or wordplay; the second is history and experience; and lastly, the feeling of patriotic and delivery.

  • Word used or wordplay

Like what I mentioned earlier, the phrase 'Mga Kababayan!' is similar to the first line of Francis M's song "Mga Kababayan Ko." From that two words, it is simply a phrase of calling. Calling out to all Filipinos out there. Then it is added with a touch of sincerity that makes everyone listen. Another word is about color, in Francis M's song, he used kayumanggi or brown color, which is the Pinoy skin color, while in EZ Mil he uses the phrase 'kahit anong kulay ng balat,' which basically explains that now it is not just Kayumanggi, but there are other Pinoy skin colors.

What's more interesting is that he manage to incorporate three languages in one song, Tagalog, English, and Ilocano.

It's really interesting how EZ Mil came up with the idea of mixing these three languages in one song.

For Pinoys who grew up in provinces learning to speak and write two or more languages is not impossible. A good example is if your mother is a Waray native and your father is an Ilocano native, you can learn both of their languages.

  • History and Experience

The lyrics are well described because it is based on experience. A story that only he can deliver. If you have watched 'Slumdog Millionaire,' well, it is something like that, he can deliver it well because he is present in that situation. Bits of historical facts like the thing about Spain and also the truth about the line 'pusang sinaing.'

  • The feeling of Patriotic and Delivery

The lyric wouldn't be complete without the delivery. The bits of anger in every word show the conviction of how he appreciates being Pinoy in his heart. One line that really describes him as being patriotic and is probably touched the souls of other Pinoys, "Despite any turmoil, I'll be proud of my soil."

So, these are just what I have observed and I know others have tried to interpret the song and I also did watch one of the videos where EZ Mil described every line of the song, so what I just did is something different. But in all, there are just a few lines that trigger everything to be listened to by every Pinoy - KABABAYAN, KULAY NG BALAT, and PILIPINO.

Confirmed Jojo Mendrez Will Sing the Revival Song of Julie Vega's "Somewhere In My Past"

2:01:00 AM

After a few decades, Julie Vega's debut single "Somewhere In My Past" will finally be revived. If you're one of the 80's generations you'll probably remember that this song was composed by Doc Mon del Rosario and sung by Julie Vega. Remember that the composer, Sir Mon, is very meticulous when it comes to this particular song, and no wonder it took decades before it was given a chance to be sung again by someone else. This time the great passionate voice of the Revival King, Jojo Mendrez, captured the essence that Doc Mon is looking for.

So, what were the criteria considered in picking the singer who will sing this song? One is the quality of voice - one that possesses a high level of competency as a singing artist and the next one, which is a hidden criteria, is the personality of the artist - he or she should be a likable person even outside the song. And it was clear that Jojo Mendrez possesses these criteria.

The announcement made a noise on social media and everyone gave their congratulatory messages to Jojo Mendrez. So, who is Jojo Mendrez will he is just one of the awardees of the PMPC Star Awards for Music - Best Revival Song of the Year with his rendition of "Handog."

Remember that just a few weeks ago I published an article about Jojo Mendrez's visit to Julie Vega's grave. It was probably a sign that he is destined to make the revival. The song is expected to be released before Valentine's Day, so they will probably going to start recording one of these days. This will be under Star Image Artists Management and will be released digitally via Spotify, iTunes, Amazon Music, and Deezer.

Congratulations Jojo Mendrez!

Jojo Mendrez Pays Respect to Julie Vega's Grave

1:31:00 AM

There's no heavy downpour of rain that will stop the Revival King, Jojo Mendrez in visiting and paying respect to Julie Vega's grave, which happened on January 3, 2021, at the Loyola Memorial Park.

Surprising and interesting, does this visit of Jojo Mendrez is an indication that he has been chosen to revive the song "Somewhere in My Past," which was popularized by Julie Vega? Or probably, he simply wanted to visit since, like many, the singer-actress is idolized by the Revival King? Whatever the reason for this visit I'm sure it is very interesting.

Aside from entertaining some of these questions, it can really be assumed that Jojo was really chosen to sing the famous song of the '80s. The visit could also be indicative of gratefulness to the singer-actress, or out of respect to the 80's famous teen star, to ask blessings of permission to revive her beautiful song.

Only Jojo knows the real score, while the creator of the song, Mon del Rosario, has not yet confirmed anything yet, after the auditions for the rebirth of the song. The Revival King still did not elaborate on whether he was given the green light to revive "Somewhere in My Past".

Take note that there were five (5) names that were shortlisted by Mon del Rosario to do the remake of the song "Somewhere in My Past". It is believed that these names are big names in the recording industry. So, to whoever will sing the song is still a mystery for now. So, how about you? Who do you think will have the voice to revive the song "Somewhere in My Past?"

“Sige, I-cover Mo Lang! Project” attests to 6cyclemind’s enduring appeal

10:15:00 PM

I think this is one great way to make music go beyond the boundaries of time and era. So, in to make this happen an initiative to introduce the younger listeners to the generation-defining anthems that conquered the airwaves for almost two decades, Sony Music Philippines and 6cyclemind finally released the special compilation, Sige, I-cover Mo Lang! Project last, October 28 (Friday), on Spotify and other streaming platforms worldwide.

More importantly, it brings a great opportunity for new artists to breakout in the music scene.

The covers record, which features shortlisted entries from music fans remaking select hits from 6cyclemind’s acclaimed pop-rock catalog, contains three tracks that were rearranged and given a fresh new spin to contrast or complement with the band’s distinct sound.

Released as digital singles a few months earlier, Bianca’s “Biglaan” and Twenty-Nine Eleven’s “I” took creative liberties in terms of arrangement and interpretation, but retained the original’s melodic sensibilities as a way to preserve and recognize its timeless appeal.

To date, Bianca’s version of “Biglaan” has racked up 1.6 million streams on Spotify, while Twenty-Nine Eleven’s version of “I” has amassed more than 3 million streams on the same platform.

Payapa Project, composed of Dan Billano (Vocals), Jepoy Almario (Percussion), Tatit Escolano (Guitars), Choi Gonzales (Bass) and Raf Gonzales (drums), completes the trifecta of releases from the Sige, I-cover Mo Lang! Project. The alternative rock outfit, through their vocalist’s powerful voice, was given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to render their own version of “Kasalanan,” a chart-topping song from the album, Project 6cyclemind. Their infectious take officially drops today as the third and final single of the tribute compilation.

These songs are now re-released into a music video format helmed by the band’s manager and sixth member Darwin Hernandez. The final versions of the cover tunes were recorded at Backdoor Recording Studio, and were produced by 6cyclemind and Soupstar Music.

Sige, I-cover Mo Lang! Project is now out on all digital platforms worldwide via Sony Music Philippines.

Kyle Echarri Now A Singer-Songwriter of His Latest Single "I'm Serious"

9:51:00 PM

Is he really serious? Well, during the online media conference, Kyle Echarri showed and shared how serious he is about his craft. One proof that he is serious is that he's levelling up his singing career by not only singing but also crafting his own songs.

A more mature Kyle Echarri was presented during the mediacon of his latest single release titled “I’m Serious,” which he wrote and produced under Star POP.

This project marks the young actor-singer’s first solo music project as a singer-songwriter and music producer. Label head Rox Santos served as the supervising producer of Kyle’s upcoming album which will include “I’m Serious.”

“I really wanted to let people feel who Kyle really is, so what I did was write all the songs in this album,” he teased.

“I’m Serious” is a straightforward love song in which a guy looks for a way to ease the girl’s worries by committing his faithful love only for her. It expresses deep affection for a special someone while also convincing her of his decent intentions.

Kyle said he wrote the song to address assumptions about him being a “chickboy.” “For me, the best thing to do now is just spread positivity and love to one another. When something negative was thrown at me, I guess I translated it into something positive. I just really wanted to spread love to everyone,” he explained.

Before the song’s official drop, 15 lucky fans who won Star POP’s contest on Twitter got first dibs on hearing the track via a virtual fan meet and listening party last Wednesday (September 9).

Kyle finished in the Top 6 of “The Voice Kids” season 2 in 2015. His most recent collaboration is with 16-year-old Singaporean talent Haven for the dreamy track “Imagine.” In 2018, the “Kadenang Ginto” breakout star released his hit song “Pangako,” which climbed to the top spot of iTunes PH’s Top 100 Songs Chart upon its release.

Trust real love and listen to Kyle’s new song, “I’m Serious” on various digital streaming platforms. Maris Racal's 'Not For Me' Shows An Introspective Side of Her

9:36:00 PM

This blog have been on tail on Maris Racal's stories, most especially during their Marnigo days, and we can say that her musical talent is interesting, whether she goes alone or with a partner. So, now we've got another story to share about Maris and this is about her newest single which is something to check out. She did create a name for herself and she has been one of the breakout young actresses of her generation. Maris Racal has successfully dabbled in writing her own songs and challenging industry expectations with her intimate and refreshing take on pop music. From penning the chart-topping confessional “Ikaw Lang Sapat Na” to collaborating with Rico Blanco on the city pop-influenced ditty “Abot Langit,” Racal is surprisingly an effective chronicler of love anthems for the modern age—a guitar-toting songstress known for balancing commercial appeal with artistic integrity.

Bursting with youthful fervor and charismatic edge, Maris Racal’s latest single “Not For Me” stretches her introspective side of music-making to interesting places, while retaining the accessibility of her recent crossover hits. Her resounding confidence translates perfectly into the musical output, but it’s her conversational and matter-of-fact songwriting style that earns the stripes, revealing a degree of self-assuredness that comes with experience.

Inspired by Britpop acts such as Aqualung and folk-pop chanteuses like Lily Allen and Regina Spektor, Racal wrote “Not For Me” not so much for intriguing unconventionality, but as an outlet to express herself in a way that feels truthful and inherently raw. The driving piano chords and the soaring arrangements give her storytelling a more authentic spin, lending it an effortless breeziness while making sure it doesn’t lessen the emotional impact of the song.

With “Not For Me” putting a spotlight on her songwriting strengths, Maris Racal explores the complexities of romantic uncertainty with a surprisingly nuanced approach—unfiltered, no longer afraid of possibilities, and ready to own the moment.

“Not For Me” is out now on all digital platforms worldwide via Sony Music Philippines.

Israeli Singer-Songwriter VANNA Releases Official Music Video for 'Let Me Fall'

3:18:00 PM

KwentoNiToto.com continues to share music from different genres and even different countries, so I do hope you would love to hear these kinds of music from these different artists.

Israeli singer-songwriter VANNA released a music video for her latest single titled 'Let Me Fall' via Umami Records.

Directed by award-winning independent filmmaker Matan Balalty and French-Israeli artist Noémie Dahan, the music video was shot at the Beit Talal In Jaffa and features four professional contemporary dancers.

Produced by Roy Avital of Tel Aviv based indie-electronic trio Garden City Movement and mastered by Matt Colton (James Blake, Muse, Coldplay), Let Me Fall is an ambient-folktronica song about letting yourself fall completely in love, and embracing the vulnerability that comes along with that. “When you fall in love, you expose yourself to getting hurt. It’s an endless paradox. When you let someone enter your inner world, you’re allowing them to gently break down your walls and then amazing things can happen.”, shares VANNA, “I was scared that one day I’d lose this feeling, and when it really happened I felt so alone trying to move on. This is the risk you take for falling in love.

Ben&Ben to release a song inspired by a fan’s heartbreaking story

9:00:00 PM

One of the best stories to tell, heartbreaking stories. It's not that you're interested in the background of the story but because it's about and it's about your heartbreak.  Award-winning Filipino band, Ben&Ben will drop their new single, “Lifetime” on June 4 (Thursday) via Sony Music.

The intricately produced, folk-pop ballad was written as a response to a fan’s YouTube comment on their hit song “Pagtingin,” which to date, has amassed more than a hundred million streams on YouTube and Spotify combined.

The fan, who goes by the alias of “Anne Jou,” shared her story of regretting not being able to express her feelings because she was afraid to lose the friendship.

“…instead of telling him what I actually felt, I hid and buried my feelings. And you know what happens to feelings that are buried? They grow. The like I felt for him became love. I wrote poems, songs. After 8 years, I attended his wedding [last] January. And guess what? The world is really overly-cruel. Before his wedding, he thanked me for being his best friend and told me that before he met the girl he got married to, he loved me first. For 5 years. But he was also scared of losing me so he just decided to keep it. I was shocked and I slightly had anger towards the world. We didn't know that if only one of us dared to make a move, a lifetime was waiting for us. So people, while you can, please express how you really feel so that in the end you won't regret anything.”

The nine-piece collective decided to make song inspired by a fan’s online confession—a proof of how powerful and moving words can be, when shared from a place of earnestness and raw honesty.

Notwithstanding the technical limitations and struggles in recording brought about by the pandemic, Ben&Ben pulled through in a few days and finished the song in their respective homes with just their instruments and a studio software.

The intimate recording session led to what is “Lifetime” now: an emotionally affecting song that leaves us wondering, what could have happened if we only mustered the courage to admit our feelings to the person we’re pining for, regardless of the outcome?

“Lifetime” was mixed by veteran sound engineer JP Verona, and mastered by Grammy Award-winning Leon Zervos (Pink, Rihanna, Maroon 5, Beastie Boys, and Willie Nelson). It was written by Miguel Benjamin and Paolo Benjamin, and recorded and produced by Ben&Ben.

Ben&Ben’s “Lifetime” will be released on all digital platforms worldwide on June 4 (12 midnight, Thursday).

Kim Chiu Learns Her Lesson and Expresses through Her Single “BAWAL LUMABAS (THE CLASSROOM SONG)”

11:53:00 AM

It's interesting that Kim Chiu fires back with something interesting for her fans and to everyone with the criticisms thrown at her for her viral classroom analogy statement and this is through her newest feel-good single “Bawal Lumabas (The Classroom Song)” released under Star POP.

“Okay lang magkamali. I learned my lesson. Now, let's celebrate!" Kim said on what message the track hopes to send out.

Over the past week, the Kapamilya actress’ statement in which she tried to compare the terms of ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal to the rules in a classroom spawned various memes and even dance remixes.

Instead of sulking, however, she came up with this song, which admittedly pokes fun at her confusing statement in its chorus, but also embraces the blunder that she made as a learning experience in its entirety.
v It also promotes positivity by reminding listeners that when faced with a personal or social crisis, the only way to turn it around is to fully accept it, respect others’ opinions, and move forward as a better person who has learned his lesson.

A product of an accidental collaboration, the words, and music of “Bawal Lumabas (The Classroom Song)” was written by Kim, Adrian Crisanto, and Squammy Beats, with back-up vocals by Chir Cataran and vocal arrangement by ABS-CBN Music creative director Jonathan Manalo. Squammy Beats also mixed, mastered, and produced the song.

Kim’s new single follows “’Wag Kang Bumitaw,” an inspirational song that dropped a day after her birthday last April 19.

Don’t let your mistakes stop you from being a better version of yourself! Listen to Kim’s “Bawal Lumabas (The Classroom Song)” on ABS-CBN Star Music’s YouTube channel and Star Music’s Facebook page. Nathan & Mercury Brings Two New Singles “Fools (Reprise)” and “Fake Love”

2:11:00 AM

Strengthening the music industry by having new music for the ears, makes it more interesting to hear, music to my ears. Let us hear more with their performances and single videos (if they have one).

Now leaning toward a more exciting sonic direction, Nathan & Mercury has raised the bar in terms of producing songs that combine a wide variety of music styles.

Fans will be elated to know that the pop/R&B outfit is back with two new singles, “Fools (Reprise)” and “Fake Love”—released on the very same day via Sony Music Philippines.

Written, composed, arranged, and produced by the band, both tracks update their foray into multi-genre experiments with newfound ambition and front-to-back confidence, discarding their inhibitions to make room for more past and present sonic convergence, soul and gospel influences, and shamelessly honest songwriting.

On Fools (Reprise)

The new iteration of “Fools” unpacks rare moments of emotional vulnerability and restraint. The reprise version, according to guitarist and vocalist Nathan Huang, includes a different set of lyrics and a more stripped-down arrangement, but manages to capture the moroseness of the original.

“We had a different vision in mind for Fools,” Huang shares. “However, we want to give off the same message, each line still sung with pain and yearning for better days. While Fools is already gospel-y as it is, we kicked it up a notch by adding in instrumentation and a much colorful play of the chorale. Short but sweet with a total running time of 1:28, Reprise, as we fondly call it, gives off a solemn and intimate vibe.”

On Fake Love

“Fake Love” sets the course of where Nathan & Mercury is headed as a musical group. “In as short as 3:34, we experimented on our usual repertoire by mixing in instruments we’ve never used before (i.e. brass),” Bassist Angelo Sison explains. “We mixed together several of our influences, particularly in pop and R&B, with hints of gospel and hip-hop. As a song, it speaks of not wanting anything less than real love—one that shouldn’t cost anything but is freely given.”

Guitarist Alex Samonte points out how difficult it is to produce and arrange “Fake Love,” which initially had 3-4 versions ended up getting scrapped at the very last minute. “We had to get a choir and brass players and the whole thingamajig, then took us a good while to gel everything together. But after a month or so of production, it all went well. I mean, I’d like to think it did.”

Both songs are intended to be released as a single track, given that it goes without saying that the two are connected: From being a fool to craving for real love. But according to Daniel Monong, the band’s drummer, they felt that “Reprise” and “Fake Love” can stand on their own individually. “So yeah, we’re releasing them on the same day because the two belong to each other.”

Fun fact: Nathan & Mercury spent a total of 30 studio hours for the whole production of both songs, not including the mixing and mastering. It’s also their first time to record for 13 hours straight in a single studio session.

Nathan & Mercury’s dual singles “Fools (Reprise)” and “Fake Love” are now available on Spotify and other music streaming/download platforms worldwide.
