The Secret Behind Valentine's Day

2/14/2021 12:57:00 AM

While most of the people in love today are celebrating or will be celebrating the so-called Love Day, others actually don't. Why? For the reason that they know the secret behind the celebration of Valentine's Day.

So, what is this all about saying that Valentine's Day isn't actually the true meaning of its day of celebration? Well, for sure, you've googled it already and you have found the answer to this secret that is in reality not a secret anymore. According to History or written records about the early flourish of Christianity, February 13 to 15 are the days of celebrating the pagan festivity that is called Lupercalla. If you know the story of Romulus and Remus, then you'd probably know who kept these twins, the mythical she-wolf who lives in a cave called the Lupercal. So, the festival is about it and also to honor the Roman god of shepherds called Lupercus. Basically, it is a fertility festival.

Since it is a pagan practice, and the Roman Christians wanted to Christianized the pagans, the church replaced this celebration to honor one of the saints, St. Valentine. Though, there is a rumor that there were three (3) martyrs who were given the name Valentine or Valentinus. It was around 496 AD when Pope Gelasius delegated February 14 as the day to honor St. Valentine as the patron saint of lovers. Later on, it was removed by Pope Paul VI from the church's calendar of saints. Even though it was removed it was still celebrated until now but not as the official celebration of saints.

Today it is considered a worldwide celebration not just of a saint but of different lovers in the world. Now, will you consider knowing that Valentine's Day is actually the Fertility Festival?

Perhaps we can just simply get the fact from the bible that "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16). I remember reading an article's title "God Did Not Say 'Be My Valentine!'

So, I think it doesn't have to have a date to say that you love that person. It should be every minute of your life. "So love not just for the reason but love because you love."

Get The Feels of This Moira Dela Torre and PLDT Home Collaboration for Valentine’s Music Video

2/13/2021 12:27:00 PM

Get the feels as the most soothing voice and the most-streamed Filipina artist on Spotify Moira Dela Torre collaborates with PLDT Home for the music video of her latest single “Pag-ibig ang Piliin,” composed and arranged by award-winning songwriter Jonathan Manalo. As the voice for PLDT Home’s campaign this Valentine’s Day, Moira once again captivates the hearts with a song that speaks the true meaning of love.

In its Valentine’s Campaign, PLDT Home highlights the importance of choosing to love amidst all circumstances and challenges. While the internet and social media have become important platforms for free expression and open dialogue, the #ChooseToLove campaign reminds everyone to always choose love over hate, divisiveness, fear and rejection.

This new song is a bright ray of light that is much needed today. It tells us that love is the most powerful choice through its moving lines.

“Kahit na ‘di natin alam ang bukas
Kahit ‘di sumikat ang araw at bumuhos ang ulan
Kahit hindi umayon ang tadhana
Isang tawag mo lang, pupuntahan nasaan ka man.
Ganyan ang tunay na pag-ibig ‘di takot sa mundo
Ipaglalaban kita hanggang sa dulo
Pag-ibig ang pipiliin ko.”

Moira notes that she was “honored to be chosen by PLDT Home” to sing this new song. She continues that the message of the song is what she has been trying to embody in the many years that she has been an artist.

Songwriter and music arranger Jonathan Manalo shares that the main message of the song highlights the ultimate power of love that changes and conquers all. He says, “This a love song that puts emphasis on ‘Love’ that is worth fighting for. Love against all odds, even if the world seems to disapprove, no one can question the power of a person’s great true love. When you choose to fight for love, it is the ultimate power, nothing, no one can stand in your way.” The song was also co-written by singer-songwriter Trisha Denise.

Get ready to be inspired to choose love this Valentine’s season. Watch Moira’s latest music video directed by Benedict Mariategue and produced by Playback Productions for PLDT Home.

DOLE's TUPAD Program Gains Praises From Rep Jam Baronda

2/11/2021 01:02:00 PM

Representative Jam Baronda of Iloilo City praised the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) for helping close to a million workers in 2020 under its Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program.

According to DOLE, by December last year, P4.5 billion in wages was paid to nearly one million workers affected by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic and typhoons that hit the country. The displaced workers were given emergency employment to help them tide over the crisis.

“TUPAD is DOLE’s most successful program that has helped Filipinos who were unfortunately affected especially by the ongoing pandemic. Sec. Silvestre Bello III is the government’s Mr. Tupad,” said Baronda. DOLE said 939,209 informal sector workers were assisted under TUPAD. Under the Bayanihan Act 2, P6 billion was allotted for the program. Beneficiaries were paid to work for 10 to 16 days.

Baronda thanked President Rodrigo Duterte and Bello for helping thousands of displaced workers in the country.

“The President’s mandate under the pandemic is to help millions of Filipinos through various means and TUPAD is one of them,” she said.

The DOLE expected the number of TUPAD beneficiaries to reach more than one million with funds still available for the program. Baronda said many businesses and individuals were affected by COVID-19 pandemic and as a result, workers were displaced.

“Through DOLE’s TUPAD, the government continues to provide help to displaced workers through employment,” she said.

GMA's Voltes V Legacy Reveals Two More Characters

2/10/2021 11:18:00 PM

Just this evening two (2) of the important characters of GMA's Voltes V Legacy were introduced and reveal to the public. Steve will be played by Miguel Tanfelix and for Jamie's role will be Ysabel Ortega.

Miguel Tanfelix first big hit on-screen was Mulawin which is a Fantaserye and now he'll be doing one of the best-animated stories of all time. He'll be playing the role of Steve Armstrong or Kenichi Go (the Japanese name of the character).

Steve is the eldest son of Dr. Armstrong. He is the leader of the Voltes team. One of his favorite thing to do is riding his motorcycle. He flies the Volt Cruiser, which forms the head of the mighty robot Voltes V. His main expertise and choice of weapon is the laser pistol.

Steve's character is a very adventurous child. Although the Armstrongs loved their children very much, they had to reprimand Steve more often than his two siblings. This was because of his character in nature who loves to go out with his friends.

When Dr. Armstrong disappeared this was Steve's turning point. He had realized that he needs to help his mother take care of his siblings. Thus, making him more responsible.

Ysabel Ortega is the chosen lone lady to portray the role of Jamie Robinson. Ysabel is the daughter of Senator Lito Lapid. She was originally from ABS-CBN's Star Magic. 2019 when she decided to transfer to GMA 7 which later on become part of the prime-time series The Gift, starring Alden Richards.

So, who is Jamie Robinson or Megumi Oka? Well, she is the daughter of Commander Robinson. She pilots the Volt Lander which forms the feet of Voltes V. She is an expert in the art of stealth or ninja.

In Jamie's family, it is a tradition to cultivate the mind and body that is why during her younger days she already received special training. Jamie became the perfect blend of Oriental and Occidental cultures. She always remained calm and quiet in the face of trouble. But also knows how to have fun.

She was selected to be part of the team because of her abilities.

Senator Grace Poe Pushes For Another Round of Financial Aid

2/10/2021 11:13:00 PM

Senator Grace Poe is urging the Executive Branch to provide another round of social amelioration to families amidst rising food prices and the economic downturn due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Families have been hit hard not once but twice. First it was the pandemic-induced lockdowns and economic burnout. Now they are hit by rising food prices. No matter how we look at it, another round of cash aid is really necessary,” said Poe.

According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, household spending on food grew by 5% while spending on health and education were slashed by 1.9% and 11.9 % respectively. Inflation also rose to 3.8 % for the 4th quarter of 2020, driven primarily by spikes in food prices.

“No family should be forced to choose between food and other necessities, especially amidst this pandemic,” Poe stated.

Poe specifically noted that cash aid would be helpful for the bottom 30% of families, which allocate around 50% of their income on food expenses.

“This will be a huge help for poor families who spend nearly half of their budget on food alone. If we subsidize their food, then they will have extra cash to spend on other necessities,” said Poe.

Previously, over P115 billion in cash subsidies of social amelioration was provided to 20 million beneficiaries under the Bayanihan to Heal as One and Bayanihan to Recover as One laws.

However, the Department of Budget and Management and the Department of Finance are hesitant to support another round of aid due to the potential price tag. Bills filed in the House and the Senate vary as to the cost of pandemic relief, which ranges from P250 billion to P800 billion.

“The cost of passing another round of aid is less than the catastrophic impact to poor families if they are allowed to starve or go bankrupt due to rising food prices. It’s time for us to give and not count the cost,” said Poe.

GMA Network finally started revealing the actors who will play the characters of Voltes V Legacy. GMA unveiled the first three (3) characters.

Radson Flores will play the role of Mark Gordon or Ippei Mine (Japanese name of the original Voltes V). Radson was part of the participants of the reality show Starstruck in 2019. Some of Radson's appearances were Pepito Manalot and Dear Uge.

Mark was originally a rodeo rider. He is an expert on horseback riding and his main choice of weapon is the whip. He pilots the Volt Bomber, which forms the arms of Voltes V.

Matt Lozano will play the role of Big Bert Armstrong or Daijiro Go (Japanese name in the original series). Lozano is known for being the winner of "Spogify featuring Singing Baes" in Eat Bulaga.

Big Bert is the younger brother of Steve. He flies Volt Panzer, which forms the body of Voltes V. His main expertise and choice of weapon is the Jo.

Raphael Landicho plays the role of Little Jon (John) Armstrong or Hiyoshi Go. Raphael's recent appearance is on the 2019 Bihag which he plays as Ethan, the son of Jessie and Brylle.

I just don't know if it was intended to spell "Jon" without the "h". Little Jon is the youngest of the Armstrong brothers. He flies Volt Frigate, which forms the legs of Voltes V. He is a genius little kid. He is an expert in aquatic tactics and robotics.

Elha Nympha Asserts Confidence, Finesse, and Maturity in Her New Soulful Single, “Do It”

2/08/2021 06:24:00 AM

Elha Nympha, is coming and assert more about confidence, finesse, and maturity on “Do It,” her comeback single under MCA Music Inc.

Now exploring a more sophisticated take on R&B, pop, and neo-soul, the former champion of The Voice Kids Season 2 reasserts confidence and sass in delivering a romantic confession that appeals beyond her particular demographic.

When she sings, “Come on over a little closer / Take me where I’ve never been,” she takes full control of the quiet storm brewing: her voice fluttering effortlessly over dreamy arrangements and soft keyboard tones, taking the spotlight with ease.

“Do It” is a suave R&B jam that tackles the beauty of taking bolder steps when it comes to love. Upon hearing the song for the first time, Elha got excited to record the material as it barely sounds like anything she’s recorded in the past. “I’m happy with where the direction of my music is going,” the 16-year-old star said in a statement. “Do It unravels a more vulnerable side of my artistry, and this is exactly the kind of music that I want to keep making—something that is young and current, but very much me.”

“Do It” has earned comparisons with the likes of SZA, Jhené Aiko, and H.E.R., embracing the fundamental agency of womanhood and young love in all its messiness and glory. While Elha is elated with the feedback that she’s been getting from her mentors and music listeners, she wants to forge a path of her own and make music that is distinctly a product of her own sense of style and adventurousness. The promising pop sensation admits, “As a fan, I can definitely see myself doing the same kind of music. But there’s more to my sound than being pigeonholed into a category. For now, I’m ready for where this journey would take me, musically. I’m definitely looking forward to creating something that is original and unique.”

Elha Nympha’s “Do It” is now out on all digital platforms worldwide via MCA Music Inc.
