What does workplace inclusion mean? JobStreet shares guide on fostering workplace inclusivity

7/20/2022 06:45:00 AM

In recent years, companies have carefully observed and implemented an inclusive workplace culture by being more open to job seekers from different backgrounds. Likewise, candidates have started considering the work culture and environment on top of salary offers when they are looking for jobs. According to JobStreet’s Global Talent Survey, more than 50% of Filipino job seekers will refuse to work for employers that do not align with their beliefs, which include diversity and inclusion. Research also shows that having diverse talent in the workplace leads to higher levels of productivity and performance as well as improved employee retention rates.

However, inclusivity within the workplace is not something that is nurtured overnight. It takes a whole organization – from leaders at the highest level to the junior team members to have a deeper understanding and commitment towards the brand values and culture and displaying authenticity and acceptance. In the recent Australian-New Zealand Chamber of Commerce Philippines (ANZCHAM Philippines) Virtual Luncheon, JobStreet Philippines Country Manager Philip Gioca tackled the importance of genuineness and inclusivity at work. Committed to leading compatible hirers and jobseekers together, JobStreet encourages companies to conduct inclusive hiring practices to retain quality talents and boost productivity.

Higher management plays an important role
Leaders, executives, and managers play a vital part in modeling an inclusive culture and behavior to the other employees “It starts from the top. Whatever the top tolerates, it is tolerated by the entire group. And so, what the top behaves that’s exactly how the members of the team and the company would behave,” said Gioca.

The company’s policies and behaviors begin at the top level of management, and this helps establish corporate culture. The role of the higher management is more than just making decisions that affect the whole organization, but they also set the expectations for the way each employee treats one another. For example, tolerating situations that negatively impact the members of the team affects the performance and success of the company.

Establish good communication
Now that most companies are practicing hybrid or remote work setups, communication can be an issue due to language barriers and varying communication styles or preferences. Hence, Gioca advised employers to maintain good communication in the workplace as it is integral in making inclusivity more genuine. One way to address this, according to Gioca, is by utilizing a standard operating procedure. For instance, important announcements and updates are sent through emails, meetings are done virtually, quick task-related messages are sent to the team chat, and more. It is also encouraged to conduct catchups, regular virtual activities, and town halls with the employees to enhance company culture.

Sensitivity and flexibility within the organization
With the workplace becoming more diverse, JobStreet also advised hirers to take employee differences into consideration when implementing inclusivity, as there can be activities or gestures that can be normal to one candidate but are offensive to another.

To manage this, employers are encouraged to conduct sensitivity trainings, especially for those who actively hire candidates that are from another race, with different gender identities, have disabilities, working moms, among others. Gioca added that adopting programs based on the needs of their employees also helps showcase the company’s sincerity in achieving inclusivity. One such example is by assigning newly hired employees to peer mentors who can provide support for new members to adapt to the organization.

In relation to creating programs anchored on employee needs, Gioca likewise suggested that workplace flexibility is also key to attaining inclusivity. Since the pandemic, hybrid working, and flexible arrangements have introduced a new perspective of work. Companies where people can stay in the office at their own pace, at their own time, will enable employees to work in a way that best suits their needs. Moreover, ensuring that those who work from home have the same benefits and opportunities as those working in the office generates a more inclusive workplace.

To make hybrid work efficient, JobStreet recommends having regular alignment meetings to make sure that the team is on the same page and to also fast-track decision-making within a diverse organization.

“Inclusivity means it’s not just allowing people to be tolerated but it’s important that people are valued and appreciated because many things can happen in diverse teams. You won’t believe what they can do, and they can reach impossible things together,” said Gioca

GCash and BPI seek to reach unbanked with BPI #MySaveUp

7/19/2022 11:28:00 PM

There's always the need to save and probably saving is one of the weaknesses of Filipinos. We tend to live by the minute but if we want to make our lives better than usual, learning to save help.

Did you know that 53 million Filipinos have no bank accounts? That is a staggering 69% percent of the country’s population from BSP’s Q3 2021 study.

The problem? Access. Many of them lack the documents required to open bank accounts. They opt to just keep their cash at home for easy access in case of emergency.

To encourage more Filipinos to go into formal banking, GCash, the country's leading e-wallet, recently partnered with the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) to reach unbanked Filipinos, particularly working millennials.

This is part of the top mobile wallet’s continuing innovation to empower Filipinos and find solutions to digitalize their financial transactions, including paying for their purchases and bills, sending money to their loved ones, and building up their savings so they can have greater financial security and freedom in life.

The partnership between GCash and BPI offers BPI #MySaveUp, an in-app feature in the GSave marketplace.

"The goal of GSave Marketplace is to provide savings account options that would best fit their needs," Winsley Bangit, chief customer officer at GCash said. “The collaboration with BPI allows GCash users to enjoy the bank's wide reach and services nationwide. BPI #MySaveUp gives the underbanked and unbanked Filipinos access to formal banking through the GCash app.”

Helping further scale up financial inclusion, BPI #MySaveUp paves the way for unbanked Filipinos to easily apply for and own a formal and all-digital account sans the long application process, allowing them to start their saving journey and achieve their financial goals while earning higher interest rates.

Through this partnership, doing financial transactions and managing an account become plain sailing thru their GCash account or BPI mobile app. This new feature also offers free fund transfer from a user’s BPI #MySaveUp account to his GCash wallet and vice versa.

Users also have an option to get a BPI Debit Mastercard in any BPI branch for only P150 so they can access their account and withdraw from thousands of BancNet and Mastercard ATMs worldwide.

"We, at BPI, are committed to realizing our vision of building a better Philippines. We are committed to continuously pursue financial inclusion programs in support of the BSP's goal for 70% of adult Filipinos to have formal financial accounts by 2023. This partnership with GCash brings us closer to this target as we provide more Filipinos a path towards financial wellness," said Maria Cristina L. Go, Executive Vice President and Head of Consumer Banking at BPI.  BPI #MySaveUp users can also win monthly prizes. Every Php 10,000 saved by the end of the month or have at least Php 3,000 worth of valid transactions within the month earns them 1 #Coin which they can use to buy a game card to win electronic GCs or eGCs from BPI. Applicants can open their BPI #MySaveUp account on their GCash app. They simply need to click the GSave icon then choose BPI #MySaveUp. Once in, they can open a savings account and proceed with using their GCash profile. After receiving the email confirmation from BPI, they can then finally start accessing BPI #MySaveUp.

For non-GCash users, they just need to download the app, upload one valid ID and wait to be verified. Once done, they can enjoy all the products and services of GCash.

Ace Banzuelo's "Walang Himala" embraces a darker, more melancholic turn on breakup song

7/19/2022 11:11:00 PM

Following the chart-topping success of “Muli” and the release of its viral music video starring ABS-CBN stars Francine Diaz and Seth Fedelin, Ace Banzuelo returns with another potential hit that is guaranteed to whet the appetite of music fans across the country.

Released under Sony Music Philippines, the Filipino recording artist’s new single “Walang Himala” carries the inherent weight of dealing with a partner’s betrayal. The melancholic synth-pop track serves as antithesis to Banzuelo’s earlier song Himala: a sad little tune that reduces listeners to a pool of misery, written as if he hibernated for months in his own mancave— devoid of light, and completely immersed in the grieving process.

“Walang Himala’s emphasis on betrayal can be interpreted in multiple ways,” shares the Laguna-based singer-songwriter and producer. “It’s not afraid to embrace a darker, more lamenting turn. Coming from ‘Muli,’ this particular track reeks of angst and frustration in the most human way possible. Some people have experienced it at some point in our lives. It’s my way of comforting them as a songwriter/musician.”

Channeling ‘80s synth-pop with modern R&B textures and brooding themes, Banzuelo reflects on loss and loneliness with a more matured perspective. Sonically speaking, “Walang Himala” retains his signature glossy synth production on top of a playful storytelling that connects his past and present releases. “My music provides a strong multiple set of stories, and this new track follows the storyline of Himala,” the Muli hitmaker points out.

According to the young multi-hyphenate, the most memorable moment for him during the recording process is coming up with the introduction and a first verse. The line “ang hirap,” which means, “it’s difficult” really stuck with him; hence, playing around with it as part of the song’s main hook. “Another memorable moment was coming up with the chorus because I didn’t have to revise it. I knew it had to be those words: Walang himala, mali ako pala (translation: There’s no miracle; it’s my fault),” shares Banzuelo, putting more context to the lyrics’ poignant rough spot.

“Walang Himala” is written, produced, mixed, and mastered by Ace Banzuelo himself. The song is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Philippines.

Who is this 100 Million Man Blind Item Buzz in the Government?

7/19/2022 07:11:00 AM

Are you familiar with the Six Million Dollar Man? Well, it is a TV show in the 70s. The series is about an astronaut injured due to a crash and operated to be like a cyborg. Thus, giving him superhuman strength, speed, and power, led him to battle evil.

Unfortunately, we're not going to talk about the series but the similar situation from a different perspective, a negative standpoint.

"100 Million Man" has been the talk in the news lately. A lot of news networks and anchors are talking about this man. Allegedly, an influential official in Malacañang is tarnishing Marcos Jr.'s administration with his deeds. If our Steve Austin in Six Million Dollar Man is doing a good deed, this alleged person is doing the opposite. He's using his influence by making money from the companies up to the positions in the government.

According to some buzz, this person known as El Kapitan of the administration is very close to the President. He's taking advantage of the situation.

What's intriguing about the person is that he asks for One Hundred Million Pesos (Ph100M) from people who want to have a position in the government, especially the so-called "juicy position" - these are the positions in government where you can get easy money.

Anyone who can provide the 100 million pesos El Kapitan will personally arrange the papers to get appointed to the preferred position.

What's worse with this El Kapitan or El Kupitan is that he does this even during the election, his modus operandi. Allegedly, all of the transactions with the business owners are the same. It starts with P100M and is even higher if the business owner is well off. All of them allegedly have the same stories.

Allegedly, there was also a story of a business owner who believed to be making his move to be noticed by PBBM by donating a sum of money, unfortunately, El Kupitan gave a bank account number registered to his name.

Now, this business owner doesn't have any idea if the donation reached to where it should given.

Aside from being coined as "Mr. 100 Million Man," El Kupitan was also given another name as "Silidonyo," it is describe as "silid dito, silid doon."

With this, people around PBBM are worried that this person might stain the image of the President and the whole administration.

According to the source, the clue is that Mr. 100 Million Man, aka El Kupitan is a Raketista with a R in his name. It's up to you to guess who it is.

Cutting Edge Therapy: Buela Physical Therapy Clinic Opens Cainta Branch

7/18/2022 06:02:00 AM

Bad posture always comes because of our bad habits and undisciplined exercise. Sometimes our posture causes some body pains and if untreated it might cause much more damage to our body.

Physical therapy clinics are now being recognized because of the treatments they provide. Thus, we should always look out for qualified and certified ones.

Buela, one of the most advanced physical therapy clinics in the country, has opened another branch in the Metro East Area at the Garden Walk Mall in Cainta, Rizal. Buela boasts of cutting edge technology in their clinics using the latest machines in physiotherapy. Coupled with well-trained physiotherapists and in-house medical doctors, Buela offers a complete and holistic approach to physical therapy.

Aquiatan, and National Polo Team member Eduardo Miguel Lopez. From L-R (back): PBA Players; Jervy Cruz and John Wilson, SEA Games Medalists Edwin Giron and Mark Harry Diones

There is a notion that physical therapy is only for post-stroke patients or those recovering from accidents, but physical therapy can benefit everyone. This is pain management that aims to fix the root of the problem, dealing with every muscle, sinew, nerve, and bone that causes the major or minor aches that plague daily life, such as back pain, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, scoliosis, to name just a few. Some patients think this is something you have to live with, but relief is possible with physiotherapy. Athletes of all levels can also look to Buela to boost their performance and be more resilient to injuries and to treat muscles that are overused in relation to their sport.

Gerald Buela, CEO of Buela Physical Therapy Clinic and a licensed physiotherapist himself, has a personal mission to raise the level of the profession. “That's my advocacy, to elevate and push the boundaries of what this practice can achieve through technology and physiotherapy.” Buela is elevating the PT (Physical Therapy) industry, by bringing in top of the line machines from abroad. “It's the latest technology so the Philippines doesn’t fall far behind,” he says. ”Most of the Physical Therapy clinics in the Philippines are quite traditional. I want to transform the industry into one of the most advanced in the region.”

The physiotherapists and staff of Buela Physical Therapy Clinic

All the machines at the Buela clinics are the latest models. The clinic touts an advanced approach using these machines that aid in various therapies: Myofascial Dry Needling, Microcurrent/Macrocurrent Therapy, Deep Radiofrequency Heat Therapy, Vibration Therapy, Manual Therapy (joint mobilization and spinal manipulation), Postural Correction Program, High-Intensity Laser Therapy, Focused Shockwave, Traction Therapy, Tecartherapy. Patients undergo a thorough screening and medical assessment by doctors and therapists to determine which treatment is most beneficial for their areas of concern.

There is a misconception that physical therapists are similar to massage therapists, but physical therapists or physiotherapists are licensed medical professionals whose field of study takes five years. While massage deals with the muscles, physical therapy can go deeper dealing with muscles, bones, and nerves, affecting the totality of the body. “Our promise is to fix your problems one posture at a time,” explains Buela. When you don’t fix the posture, the muscles aren’t activated properly, the pain and discomfort will return. The machines also target tissue at a deeper level that a simple massage cannot reach. “Massages are good for relaxation, but you need physical therapy for pain and discomfort.”

Gerald Rivera Buela – CEO of Buela Physical Therapy Clinic Corporation. Buela's goal is to make physiotherapy a part of people's healthy lifestyles.

Cost is also something that precludes people from getting the physical therapy that they need, often choosing to pop a pill for the pain. But that solution is temporary, especially for those with chronic pain. People don’t often realize that their health card coverage includes physical therapy, and a visit to the Buela clinic can bring them more lasting relief.

Buela’s sleek and industrial chic interiors of blue gray, wood and steel is aimed at trying to do away with the cold and antiseptic feel of physical rehabilitation clinics, treating it more like going to a spa, gym or an aesthetician, while still getting the level of treatment you would get at the most advanced physical rehabilitation center. “Some of our patients don't do well in hospital settings. Their progress is very minimal, and they don't find the level of pain relief they desire,” explains Buela. Hospitals also don't do certain treatments, like dry needling, a practice whose roots trace back to acupuncture but have now combined with Western research.

The Buela PT interiors of slate blue with wood accents may look like a spa, but the clinic utilizes the most advanced tools in physical therapy.

Buela has not only invested in machines, he also invested in people. The Buela clinic makes it a special point to design the staff area of the physical therapists to be as nice as the rest of the clinic. This does a lot for staff morale, as the staff room is usually the most neglected part of any establishment. Buela, who worked as a physiotherapist himself, knows the ins and outs of the industry and champions that therapists be treated as professionals. It’s only logical that happier staff can give better service. “I pay them a premium, twice as much as the average. I want physiotherapists to feel ownership of the space and to be comfortably working in that space. Compared to other clinics, we pay them double. I really value our people.”

During the pandemic a lot of lifestyles have become sedentary. The work from home setup, which continues even through a hybrid setup, has resulted in a lot less time for moving and socializing, often just remaining at your desk for the whole day. This has resulted in a lot of posture problems that result in or compound all manner of bodily aches and pains. “What we want to give to them is freedom from pain,” declares Buela. ”That way you can work more efficiently, have better relationships, and live your best life.”

Buela Physical Therapy Clinic is located at Unit 2R, The Garden Walk, 105 Felix Avenue, Cainta, Rizal.

AIA PHILIPPINES Getting Inclusive with their Offer of Same-Sex Beneficiary Inclusion

7/16/2022 11:57:00 PM

With the changing world, uncertainty is always present. The future is uncertain, and one must be prepared for anything. To make protection more inclusive, the country’s premier life insurance company, AIA Philippines, allows customers to enlist their same-sex partners as beneficiaries, as aligned with the Insurance Commission’s position on the matter.

With this update, AIA Philippines customers can enlist their partners as beneficiaries of their existing and future policies, regardless of their marital status. If the customer and beneficiary are married, they would need to submit a marriage certificate or other proof of marriage to be enlisted as a policy beneficiary.

“Everyone should have the means to protect their loved ones from life’s many risks, and expressing love and responsibility to those we care about should not be limited by how we identify as people. Our promise of helping people live Healthier, Longer, Better Lives is for all,” Kelvin Ang, AIA Philippines CEO said. “With these adjustments in place, our LGBTQ+ customers can protect their loved ones through AIA Philippines’ innovative offerings.”

If the couple is not yet married, same-sex partners may still be approved as beneficiaries if declared together with family members. Those who wish their partners to be sole beneficiaries may still be allowed on a case-to-case basis, requiring documents that show proof of their relationship. Customers may inquire with their AIA Philippines financial advisor for more details.

This inclusion pertains to active policies and products to be procured by customers in the future. Hence, whether you’re a current AIA PH customer or if you’re looking to invest in the future, you can enlist your same-sex partner as a beneficiary upon submission of the requirements. With this update, protection from life’s many uncertainties is no longer limited to heterosexual partners.

This update is in line with the Insurance Commission’s affirmation that any individual, regardless of gender identity, may designate any individual as a beneficiary, subject only to certain exceptions under the Civil Code.

Life is unpredictable, and no one knows what tomorrow may bring. And AIA Philippines is committed to ensuring that a healthier, longer and better life is available to all its customers no matter what.

The Pros and Cons of Owning A Car in the Middle of a Crisis

7/14/2022 10:34:00 PM

We are still in the pandemic and the health crisis has greatly affected everyone and everything in the world. From big businesses down to the very small enterprises and entrepreneurs.

With the imposed lockdown we are all forced to stay in the house, off from our works, and away from the streets. As much as possible sole confinement.

Perhaps one of the in-demand thing to use aside from health related machines are cars or any form of vehicles. It is very useful especially if you're 'the chosen one' who will buy the needs of the family.

Though cars are indeed in demand, production, selling and buying were actually limited due to the restrictions of the pandemic. If you know about business, I'm sure you already know the implication of the situation. Like in our place in Quezon City, there were lots of car distributors who were forced to close their shops. Not only because of the overhead expenses but because of the inability to make sales. I think I read something about the same status of the car industry that mentioned about the drop in sales. If I'm not mistaken it was in the Wall Street Journal It's a big lose for car companies even a slightest drop.

With our experience during the onslaught of Covid19, it made me and my wife think of owning a car. During the lockdown it is much easier and faster for people with vehicles to go to the grocery stores, unlike us who don't have any vehicles need to walk kilometers away to buy the necessities. It is indeed a must have during emergencies and when there are uncertain situations.

We got too excited that we checked out some of the known car brands and the models. We got into a heated discussion expressing what each of us want in the vehicle we're planning to own. Checked out the brands like Mitsubishi, Nissan, Hyundai, Toyota and many more. We even discussed if we could have family van or just a plain car where four of us can be accommodated. Probably the most weird action that we did was checking the car loans that the banks are offering and what's even more advance thinking was that we computed the possible monthly car payment that we need by accessing car payment calculators that you can find online. With this, we can at least have a ball figure of the finances that we need to accumulate monthly.

Like any other cases, there's always the pros and cons when owning a vehicle. So, we must always weigh it in order for us to consider and make a decision. Here are what we have listed so far.

Pros

1. It is much faster and easier to go to places we want to visit.
2. There is always a feeling of security.
3. It is helpful when we're carrying heavy loads.
4. We can easily avoid places with heavy traffic

Cons

1. High price of fuel and maintenance cost.
2. Hassle of scheduling the maintenance of the vehicle.
3. We always need to consider parking.
4. Possibility of car accident or got stuck in a traffic.

So, until now we're still trying to find our common grounds to agree, but at least we were able to agree on the idea that we need to have more source of income for the car loan in order for us to own a car.

How about you, what are your consideration when you're planning to buy a car?

Kyle and Chie, who spread 'kilig' as former housemates of "PBB Kumunity" celebrity edition, will be playing each other's love interest in the series. Dave (Kyle) is the charming leader of a group of happy-go-lucky teenage boys known as the “Baler Boys” - Billy, Jeremy, Jason, and Pete (Lance, Sean, Brent, and Raven).

The five boys are working hard as waiters and pool boys at a luxury resort in order to fulfill their dreams to live a comfortable life and move to Manila.

Despite their easy-going attitude, they are also dealing with their own inner struggles. Dave is trying to convince his mother to allow him to go to Manila for college; Billy is having problems with his goal-oriented girlfriend Yasmine (Angelica); Jason is secretly in love with rich girl Erika (Kira); while Pete has suppressed feelings for his best friend.

The boys’ lives will change when they get entangled in the affairs of Nicole (Chie), an alluring, mysterious, and hot chick who will seemingly help them navigate through their teenage crises.

As Nicole gets closer to the boys, especially to Dave who seems to have fallen in love with her, they will soon find out that Nicole actually has a scheming hidden agenda.

The boys will find themselves going on a crazy adventure as a series of revelations, betrayals, and mishaps begin to unravel - that will ultimately test their maturity, and most importantly, their friendship.

Will Dave and his friends be able to resolve their issues? What deep secret is Nicole hiding?

Appointment of Philippine Ports Authority General Manager is in Question

7/08/2022 03:14:00 PM

With the new administration, changes are happening in all of the agencies of the government. All are unstable just like the honeymoon  period, trying to make things work out for the betterment, but sometimes  this traditions must give way when very dangerous tendencies strart rearing their ugly heads. And that is exactly what happened when incoming ES Vic Rodriguez announced the appointment of Christopher Pastrana as General Manager of the Philippine Ports Authority.

The appointment reportedly caught the 2 other members of the screening committee, Naida Angping and Anton Lagdameo by surprise. More importantly, the appointment was announced at the same time as that of incoming DOTR Secretary Jimmy Bautista, even before the latter has even accepted.

And that was critical, because since PPA is an agency attached to the DOTR, such should have been vetted with him. That courtesy was extended to incoming Finance Secretary Ben Diokno, who had a say in the appointments of the respective heads of BSP,BIR and BOC. But not in the case of PPA. And the plot thickens, once one starts going deeper to find out who Pastrana is, and who his business partner is.

Pastrana is the President of two companies- Archipelago Philippines Ferries Corporation and Philippine Archipelago Ports and Terminal Services and Philharbor Ferries and Port Services. Archipelago owns FastCat ferries, while Philippine Archipelago operates port terminals.

These consideration should have legally disqualified Pastrana from being appointed to PPA, or to any other government agency that regulates his businesses. But it seems that ES Rodriguez failed to see this, even if Pastrana’s business partner is Dennis Trajano, Rodriguez’s bilas (their wives being sisters). Trajano, in fact, sits as Chairman of the board of both companies. But wait, there’s more, Pastrana’s brother-in-law is also a port operator himself, a certain Rommel Ibuna. As a result, Pastrana will end up regulating not only his businesses and that owned by his brother-in-law, but also lord it over the businesses of their competitors.

So, what do you think of this?
