Talk About Rare Diseases, Get To Know the Key Provisions of Republic Act 10747 and the IRR

11:12:00 PM

When we talk about rare it explains so many things that are new, undiscovered, special, and so much more. But when it comes to diseases it is something that we shouldn't care less. Just this February was the observance of The National Rare Disease Week (Feb 22-28) and the International Rare Disease Day (Feb 29). Yes it is over already but let us not sit to that event only, instead let us make it as our continuous fight to raise awareness and uplift our friends and family afflicted with rare and orphan disorder still continues.

Okay this may take a bit long of a post together with some of the information about Rare Disease and things that we should know about it. So, if you'll bear with me kindly read more and learn some few things.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), rare diseases or orphan disorders are a “life-threatening or chronically debilitating diseases, which are of such low prevalence that special combined efforts are needed to address them.” In the Philippines, a disease is considered rare when it affects one patient in every 20,000 people in the country until a final definition is formalized by the Technical Working Group of the Department of Health (DOH).

Meanwhile, the Philippine Society for Orphan Disorders, Inc. (PSOD) notes that there are over 7,000 rare diseases identified globally and are typically genetic in origin. As such, rare diseases typically affect children who are oftentimes at risk of a delayed diagnosis or even a misdiagnosis due to a poor understanding of their condition.

Furthermore, the DOH stresses that patients afflicted with rare diseases often have their quality of life reduced and are dependent on other people to attend to their basic needs. They also need lifelong medical care which may range from medications and multidisciplinary therapies to alleviate the symptoms and effects of the disease.

Moreover, PSOD holds a registry of 319 individuals with rare diseases representing 63 rare disorders but due to the rarity of their condition, Filipino patients are burdened with a lack of existing network of support to aid them. Medical assistance is elusive under the conditions of the country’s health priority, and raising awareness for people affected by rare disease still looms.

Hence, the challenge of funding and sustained financial support is also an unfortunate reality for many of our loved ones with Rare Disease. But the cost of treatment should not be directed towards monetary value but to the value for health and drastic improvement in the quality of life that the treatment, support, and management can provide to the Rare Disease community at large.

Thanks to the love and support from our friends in the private and public sector, the Republic Act 10747 or Rare Diseases Act was signed into law in March 2016. The law aims to improve rare disease patients’ access to comprehensive medical care; and among other things, identify interventions, and design research studies on rare diseases; and promote public awareness on rare diseases, among others.

Under this law, the patients are also considered as persons with disabilities (PWDs) and are entitled to the corresponding benefits and privileges such as priority programs and discounts. The Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) is also mandated to provide benefit packages for patients, and incentives for donations intended for research on rare diseases.

But this is just a start. We still have a long way to go until all the provisions of RA 10747 are fulfilled.

With this, we invite everyone to join hands with the Rare Disease community and show their love and care for the Rare. If you wish to show your support or make a donation for the Rare Disease community, you may visit the PSOD website at http://psod.org.ph or Facebook on https://www.facebook.com/psod.org.ph for more information.

16 Reasons to Enjoy Chicken at RedHead Chicken

8:20:00 PM

Sumptuous meals are delightful to pair with excellent quenching drinks. When you're into discovering dish for your hungry palate, you'll land to a meal that you will try over and over again. The reason? Well, they have good food, but for this place, they have 16 flavors that you'll want to try and eat all. Just like the tag line of Pokemon, "you gotta catch 'em all!" For this restaurant, RedHead Chicken, it already says on their billboard, "you gotta try them all."

It's not a new concept, but it brings a unique and exotic flavor. RedHead Chicken presents an impressive number of tastes to try together with their unlimited take of chicken wings, drums, and lollipops. If your palate is adventurous, then you'll definitely love its number of flavorings. I did try almost half from their list, and I enjoyed it very much. It's satisfying and it is an answer to your cravings. If I can alphabetize this, I would, but it seems that most of the names of the sauces start with the letter "S."

This newfound place of chicken haven is located, in one of the oldest cities in the Metro, Las Pinas. It is famous for its extraordinary instrument that produces a melodic and enchanting sound called the Bamboo Organ. Since I was in Elementary, this part of the city, has always been part of every itinerary of school tours.

So, enough with the brief history of the place and let us get it on with the food. Oh, by the way, one of the owners is JC Valdepenas. He's the one who entertained us, the bloggers.

So, where do we start? Let us start with the chickens. Yes, the chickens! Served in a wooden bento box style, it makes the dish stands out of the picture. It gives more emphasis on the chicken's golden brown color, rather than the plating, making it more enticing to eat. With today's adventurous taste, restaurant owners tend to make the food experience memorable, and for RedHead Chicken, it's their rooster of flavors that pops out. 16 different relishes are your reasons to go back.

The restaurant has levels of tastes, from sweet and tangy zest up to their extra hot level. The following flavors are:

The Sweet Level
  • Sweet BBQ - we all know it's an all-time favorite and it is loved by kids.
  • Sesame BBQ - your regular BBQ flavored even more with sesame.
  • Lemon Sesame - with a squeeze of lemon.
  • Teriyaki - Japanese style of sweet grill sauce.
  • Salted Egg - which, by the way, I find it not sweet but salty instead.
  • Creamy Cheese - it's sweet but salty because of the cheese.
  • Parmesan - it is the same with the cheese.

The Hot & Sweet Level
  • Spicy Garlic - just make sure you bring along your mint-flavored candies.
  • Spicy Honey - a spicy-sweet taste for someone who loves to mix sweet and spicy.
  • Hickory BBQ - not really sure of its taste, probably will try it once we dine back again very soon.
  • Honey Sriracha - I think this kind of spice is from India. A different kind of spiciness.
  • Spicy Garlic Butter - just like the garlic butter for shrimps.

The Extra Hot Level
  • Sriracha Flame - which is more of the sriracha flavor.
  • Pinoy Diable - this one is interesting because this the first time I tasted something like this. It's actually a spicy bagoong mixed with the chicken as its flavoring.
  • Blazing Hot - which for me is not that too hot.

Take note that if you order the Eat All You Can Chicken, you are given a 2-hour time limit to consume as much as you can. Of course, you need to finish it all without any leftovers. If you feel that you'll be needing something to drink to ease off the spiciness, well, you're in luck because they also have their Milktea, the Snowriffic Tea. It is an interesting pair for your spicy chicken, that's food and drinks in one store. Their drinks too have varieties of flavors to choose from. From your usual milktea flavors down to their fruit teas. More flavors to enjoy with.

Aside from chickens, they also have pasta, fries, and burgers, some variant for you in case you're needing something new other than chicken.

So, are you enticed with the 16 different flavors? Well, if you are, you can visit their stores in Las Pinas, that's beside Bernardo College or the other branches in Makati Area, one in Filmore St. near Cash and Carry and at Dian St near Arellano Ave. Or if you're into business and you find it interesting to have the business in your place, all you need to do is contact their FB Page just click Redhead Chicken. Don't forget to use our code when you decide to push through with the franchise #KWENTONITOTO!

That's it for now and more food and drinks to come!

THE COLOR BAR Opens It Doors To Color Your World

1:59:00 AM

Colors are what makes us all happy and gay. For colors are what sets our moods. So, The Color Bar has just been launched and the one who created it, Jof Fantone, made his clients feel more of him as a consultant, a confidant, and a friend. It's more than just an expert on hair color and styling, it leaves a good impression to clients, that's what is THE COLOR BAR is all about, a full-service salon specializing in hair color, the second branch that recently opened at Estancia Mall in Capitol Commons in Pasig City.

Of course, hair is a very personal, very intimate part of ourselves. We take it for granted because it’s always so out there, every day. Only when we go through a traumatic hair day do we realize just how important our hair is to our lives.

This was underscored by singer, actress, and host Garie Concepcion, who was mistress of ceremonies during the launch. She revealed that when she met Jof for the first time, she felt traumatized by a previous hair color experience with another salon.

“My hair was damaged in a previous hair color procedure. Actually, you could say my hair was dead. It was that bad,” Garie said, the pain still audible in her voice as she relives the memory.

Jof had both bad news and good news for Garie when she came by THE COLOR BAR (this was still at the first salon in BGC; the Estancia branch is the second outlet) to try and see if there was still hope for her hair. The bad news was, Garie’s hair was too damaged to undergo any coloring. The good news, however, was that through proper treatments and with time for healing and recovery, Garie could once again put color on her hair and her life.

Garie proudly told the gathering of well-wishers, special guests, and satisfied clients that thanks to Jof, her hair came alive again and is now healthy enough to get the colors she wants. As her hair recovered, so did her spirit and her confidence.

Other clients also gave similar glowing and happy testimonials about their hair styling and coloring experience at THE COLOR BAR. Over a chic, gorgeous, floral spread of cold cuts, cheeses, fruits, and crisps, guests enjoyed the food and the company, while listening to the testimonials. Jof also gave guests both a virtual (via video) and a real life tour of The Color Bar’s new Estancia branch.

One very interesting highlight during the launch was a feature on The Friends of The Color Bar mobile app. This app serves an e-membership card and is downloadable over a smartphone or tablet (both iOS and Android) and provides exciting discounts, promos, rewards, and perks to registered users.

When you download The Friends of the Color Bar on your mobile device, you immediately get 500 points in their Rewards Program. The Friends of the Color Bar provides access to all promos and perks, and updates users on special events. Clients can also book hair color treatments and other services through the app.

To get the app, you must first download the TADA wallet and membership card app. This, in turn, lets you access The Friends of the Color Bar app.

The Color Bar is a very social media savvy salon, and it’s best if you also follow their Instagram account, @thecolorbarph. There you can watch and be awed by so many colorful possibilities that you’ve only dreamed of for your hair.

Whatever the reason, THE COLOR BAR provides customers with whatever color or colors they wish. This new and exciting, top tier hair salon is a full-service hair salon but its expertise truly shines in full spectrum when it comes to hair color. It’s simply one of the top, if not the top hair color specialty salon in the industry today.

THE COLOR BAR has two main promises to its clientele: 1) To help them achieve their dream hair color and 2) To provide a place of comfort, acceptance, inclusivity and self-love solace, self-care, and serenity that is respectful of one’s life choices.

“The promise, ‘No Matter What Color’; is something we are confident about because it’s how our brand is built. Jof is a U.S.-trained hair colorist and stylist, professionally certified by the Paul Mitchell School in San Diego, California, and his expertise is beyond doubt,” said Darwin Cerrado, who co-owns the salon with Fantone.

“It doesn’t matter who you are or what your choices are. It doesn’t matter if you want orange hair, or amethyst highlights, or a platinum blonde, ‘do. What matters is what makes you feel most centered and authentic, what makes you the real you. And we’re here to help you achieve that,” Darwin explained.

At THE COLOR BAR, a thorough assessment of the client’s hair health is made--if the hair is still not ready for the rigors of hair styling and treatment, then Jof will recommend that the client postpone any coloring in the meantime. Or he would suggest an alternative color treatment that the hair would be able to take.

The full spectrum of styling, colors, and wellness that THE COLOR BAR provides is best experienced rather than told. Book an appointment now through The Friends of the Color Bar app. ###

Nathan & Mercury Brings Two New Singles “Fools (Reprise)” and “Fake Love”

2:11:00 AM

Strengthening the music industry by having new music for the ears, makes it more interesting to hear, music to my ears. Let us hear more with their performances and single videos (if they have one).

Now leaning toward a more exciting sonic direction, Nathan & Mercury has raised the bar in terms of producing songs that combine a wide variety of music styles.

Fans will be elated to know that the pop/R&B outfit is back with two new singles, “Fools (Reprise)” and “Fake Love”—released on the very same day via Sony Music Philippines.

Written, composed, arranged, and produced by the band, both tracks update their foray into multi-genre experiments with newfound ambition and front-to-back confidence, discarding their inhibitions to make room for more past and present sonic convergence, soul and gospel influences, and shamelessly honest songwriting.

On Fools (Reprise)

The new iteration of “Fools” unpacks rare moments of emotional vulnerability and restraint. The reprise version, according to guitarist and vocalist Nathan Huang, includes a different set of lyrics and a more stripped-down arrangement, but manages to capture the moroseness of the original.

“We had a different vision in mind for Fools,” Huang shares. “However, we want to give off the same message, each line still sung with pain and yearning for better days. While Fools is already gospel-y as it is, we kicked it up a notch by adding in instrumentation and a much colorful play of the chorale. Short but sweet with a total running time of 1:28, Reprise, as we fondly call it, gives off a solemn and intimate vibe.”

On Fake Love

“Fake Love” sets the course of where Nathan & Mercury is headed as a musical group. “In as short as 3:34, we experimented on our usual repertoire by mixing in instruments we’ve never used before (i.e. brass),” Bassist Angelo Sison explains. “We mixed together several of our influences, particularly in pop and R&B, with hints of gospel and hip-hop. As a song, it speaks of not wanting anything less than real love—one that shouldn’t cost anything but is freely given.”

Guitarist Alex Samonte points out how difficult it is to produce and arrange “Fake Love,” which initially had 3-4 versions ended up getting scrapped at the very last minute. “We had to get a choir and brass players and the whole thingamajig, then took us a good while to gel everything together. But after a month or so of production, it all went well. I mean, I’d like to think it did.”

Both songs are intended to be released as a single track, given that it goes without saying that the two are connected: From being a fool to craving for real love. But according to Daniel Monong, the band’s drummer, they felt that “Reprise” and “Fake Love” can stand on their own individually. “So yeah, we’re releasing them on the same day because the two belong to each other.”

Fun fact: Nathan & Mercury spent a total of 30 studio hours for the whole production of both songs, not including the mixing and mastering. It’s also their first time to record for 13 hours straight in a single studio session.

Nathan & Mercury’s dual singles “Fools (Reprise)” and “Fake Love” are now available on Spotify and other music streaming/download platforms worldwide.

Ben&Ben Take Part In Collaborative Effort Lead by Eric Chou and other Sony Music Asia artists on “Forever Beautiful”

11:35:00 PM

In light with the current situation of the world and particularly in Asia, different artists made a collaborative effort  in expressing solidarity and support for those affected by the outbreak of iCOVID-19 Coronavirus and Ben&Ben joins in this regional move.

The folk-pop collective joins Sony Music artists across Asia in delivering a spectacular take on Taiwanese superstar Eric Chou’s original track “Forever Beautiful.”

Featuring 15 artists from nine countries across Asia singing in both Chinese and English, including Chou himself, the collaborative remake titled “Forever Beautiful: All for One Version” conveys an important message through these touching lyrics: we may speak and sing in different languages and represent the many ethnicities and cultures of Asia, but we are all united with solidarity and support. In these challenging times, music can bring hope and peace along with the message of love and compassion.

"In this time of fear and uncertainty, it is important to remind people that they are not alone and that even the most dreadful things give way to new beginnings,” shares Ben&Ben vocalist and guitarist Paolo Benjamin. “It was cool to do this project with some of the most talented and generous artists across Asia.”

Set to make their US debut at the annual South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas, Ben&Ben is one of the most successful Asian acts in the region— breaking records in the country with 9 songs simultaneously on the Spotify Philippines’ Top 50 chart. Their current single “Sa Susunod na Habang Buhay” recently shot straight to number one with a million streams on the aforementioned platform, within 2 days of release.

The nine-piece act represents the Philippines as part of the vibrant and diverse roster of Sony Music Asia featured in “Forever Beautiful: All for One Version,” including Eric Chou (the original singer/songwriter) and singer Kelly Cheng from Taiwan; Wafa, a member from Bahiyya Haneesa (an acapella group), and R&B-pop singer NYK from Malaysia; music acts Benjamin Kheng, Narelle, and Sezairi from Singapore; HÀ LÊ, a vocalist from Vietnam; singer-songwriter and producer E.viewz from South Korea; singer Fatin from Indonesia; singer-songwriter Jocelyn C from Beijing; and artists Phil Lam, Jason Chan, and Cath Wong from Hong Kong.

“Forever Beautiful: All for One Version” is now available globally on all streaming and digital platforms through Sony Music Taiwan. Proceeds from this song will be donated to relief efforts by 韓紅愛心慈善基金會 (Han Hong Love Charity Foundation) for those affected by the outbreak of iCOVID-19 Coronavirus.

Doja Cat’s “Say So” earworms its way to global viral prominence

7:40:00 AM

Okay, I've been busy lately and haven't been pretty into the music news. So, this is just something that I saw on my feed and got me curious enough to check it out. Why don't you check out what is this Doja Cat is.

With its effervescent disco sheen, attention-grabbing chorus, and inescapable vibe, Doja Cat’s “Say So” is shaping up to be a global smash. The song currently sits at number 32 on Spotify Philippines Viral 50 and has climbed steadily on the Billboard Hot 100 for more than a month since its debut. In a short period of time, it has reached more than a hundred million streams worldwide, becoming Doja Cat’s biggest hit on Spotify.

The song’s breakthrough could be attributed in part to its success on video-sharing social networking platform, TikTok, where it inspired various dance challenges from top Hollywood celebrities and social media influencers.

Fashion and entertainment magazine Nylon explains how the hip-hop/R&B star’s viral breakout made its way into the consciousness of the short-form video app: “In retrospect, Say So was destined to be a great TikTok fodder: the irresistible disco beat plus sassy lyrics which translate well into easy-to-learn dance moves,” writer Steffanee Wang shares. “At this point, it's fair to say that literally everyone has done the challenge, including James Charles and a girl on like, 20-foot stilts.”

Due to the song’s massive success on the platform, Doja Cat, along with Tyra Banks, recently headlined TikTok’s Black Creators Summit, where she capped off the event with a performance of her current dance craze.

Here in the Philippines, the American rapper, singer and producer’s latest chart-topper is also gaining traction on the aforementioned platform. Singer-actor Iñigo Pascual, ABS-CBN teen star Alexa Ilacad, and G-Force choreographer Yanyan De Jesus recently hopped on the bandwagon with their take on “Say So,” which individually went viral on the day of its release.

AC Bonifacio, another celebrity influencer based in Manila, has recently uploaded a teaser of her upcoming dance cover on various social media platforms. The young multimedia star is set to debut her version of the Doja Cat hit on February 27, Thursday.

And then there’s Filipina YouTube star Niana Guerrero racking up 397,000 likes on TikTok for her bubbly and infectious lip-sync and dance performance of the newest Doja Cat single. This clearly reflects Doja Cat’s rising profile in the country, reaping the rewards of this generation’s preference for meme-ready songs that appeal to youth and online culture sensibilities.

The highly anticipated music video of “Say So” will have its worldwide premiere on YouTube soon. The song is now available on Spotify and other music streaming/download platforms worldwide.

Not Just the Good Life but The Heart of LG To Shelter of Hope

3:15:00 AM

If you're following my other blog, www.grabtechdude.net, I was able to post and tell the story about the partnership of Netflix and LG in releasing the animated film Klaus that made kids from Shelter of Hope enjoyed watching. During that time as well as the small launching event, melts the heart of LG and made an instant announcement of its pledge to donate over 1 million pesos of Home Appliances to the Shelter of Hope/ Silungan ng Pag-asa.  The great thing is that it is not just a promise but an act to do the will with all their hearts for the children of Shelter of Hope/Silungan ng Pag-Asa, a temporary home for cancer-stricken kids from provinces.

The donations, which included a wide range of home appliances that will vastly improve the quality of life and enjoyment in the children’s home, were recently formally turned over in a small gathering to celebrate the month of love, as well as World Cancer Day which fell on February 4th. LG Managing Director Inkwun Heo, together with #TeamLG, gave the donations to Pastor Junie Antiñero of Shelter of Hope. “It is our privilege to be partners with Shelter of Hope. The bravery and strength of these children are something we can all look up to. To be able to give them happiness, no matter how small, is a goal that we constantly work towards.” Mr. Heo said.

Pastor Junie gamely accepted LG’s gift. “We are deeply grateful for LG’s unwavering support for our cause. I, and more importantly the children, really appreciate it”. After the donations were given away, the children from Shelter of Hope gave the audience a heartwarming treat with a moving performance. The donations came in part of the #ShareTheGoodLifewithLG campaign during the holidays, where as a way of giving back to the community, LG dedicated a portion of each sale of each product to go towards furnishing the home of Shelter of Hope.

Fool by Upcoming Singapore Electro-pop/R&B Band In The Now Releases Their Debut un Umami Records

2:52:00 AM

It's always great to watch out for something new and something different. With music there are plenty of possibilities to hear new and outstanding music.  Now we're sharing one news about this upcoming Singapore Electro-pop/ R&B band called "IN THE NOW." Yes, I know it's quite unusual to have a name like that but hey that's what they choose. Anyway and accordingly, they just freshly released their Debut song entitled "Fool". So, read on and get to know the band.

“Fool” is a song about unrequited love, where our hero is in denial, constantly clinging to the hope that one day the subject of his infatuation will change her mind, even though he knows he should move on. Layers of dark melancholic synths and dreamy electronic pads build into a heartfelt chorus, and when words are not enough, culminates in an unexpected drop. Topped off with a sprinkling of trap and future bass elements, the innovative production on this cleverly crafted track entices the ears with something special.

“I wrote this song hoping it would touch others who relate to the same heartbreak I felt”, shares Alex of IN THE NOW. “We wanted the song to sound really different from what we normally do”, said Dan, the producer of the group, “we experimented with many different versions of the drop before we got something we were all happy with, bringing together the right amount of contrast and energetic release.”

A music video directed and produced by Singapore creative collective YungTauFoo and Homies accompanies the release of this single.

IN THE NOW are four teenage friends and schoolmates from Singapore comprised of producer and vocalist Dan Rafael, and vocalists Akmal Hussein, Rahmat Damansari and Alex Gryffin. They are currently working on an EP of 6 songs to be released in 2020, written and produced by themselves, whilst also completing their tertiary education.

“Fool” by IN THE NOW will be available everywhere from Friday, 28 February 2020 (and for pre-save before) at this link: https://ffm.to/in-the-now-fool

Once you hear it, tell me what can you say about their song and their beat.

It’s with gratitude to our fans and during this amazing time of female empowerment, to be able to announce the launch of our PCD reunion, celebrating ALL GENDERS, & the brilliant success and talent of the girls that helped influence a movement that was long overdue”.

The Pussycat Dolls will embark on a world tour bringing their chart-topping hits such as ‘Don’t Cha’, ‘Stickwitu’, ‘When I Grow Up’, ‘Buttons’, and many more fan favorites back to life with their iconic dance routines and show-stopping vocals.
